View Full Version : What Should Happen With Chaos Dwarfs?

Hi all,

I was wondering what people think about Chaos Dwarfs. I had thought about converting an army of them but without knowing what the future holds I wouldn't want to commit myself to a project knowing that when and if they are over hauled the whole army could become pretty much useless. I do kinda like the idea that GW make rules for them and perhaps some suggested conversions ideas for units etc but leave them as a converters army. What do you think?

Well, at the very least, you can always make them a 'counts as' dwarf army.
They won't go anywhere from the background, but whether they become a fully fledged army in the future is unknown.

Well, this is one of those things that keeps rearing its head every couple of days to be fair, have a peek back through the threads on here and you'll find tons of 'should the chaos dwarves come back' stuff, but for my 2pence worth hell yes they should come back! In terms of what will happen, if they get a book it wont be for a very long time I'd have thought, for the simple reason that they don't fit a unique enough gap in the range at the mo...love them though!

The best case scenario is that once every single army in the current range has recieved an updated armybook and re-modeled miniatures for the 7th ed WFB rulebook work on the Chaos Dwarves can finally begin. If we were too take a realistic approach we can expect mayb 2 - 3 new WFB armybooks a year. So (in no particular official order) we could (mayb) expect

2009

Lizardmen
Skaven
Beastmen

2010

Bretonia
Ogre Kingdoms
Woodelves

2011

Tombkings
Dwarves?

So at its at least 2012 before we could reasonably expect a new CD book

Chaos Dwarves should get their own book. They deserve it. But if not, I'm sure FW can make something cool out of them. I imagine they'll make all the CD machines and inventions much better than GW.

CDs are dead and not coming back. I honestly wouldn't recommend CDs unless conversions and losing too often are fun for you.

And yes, I do have a CD army on the shelf.

i would love to see CD back in any way! I chose a artial overhaul as i like the general feel and fluff of the CD but feel they do need to be updated and such. bringing them back inline with the newer darker WFB universe. however might be a good diea to tone down some of the big hats, i mena their good but too much makes it commical.

Overhaul. Make the Chaos Dwarfs look like the ones who crew the Hellcannon, give them an entirely new army list and options. I'd be sold.

Hey, if Daemons got their own army, it's only a matter of time...

I'de love to see a compete overhaul of the entire army.
New everything, complete overhaul and fleshing out of everything to do with them.
I can of course wait say....8 years for them to appear.

Overhaul would be my first choice as well, however if CDs get forgotten again before 8th edition is released........

I would like to see the White Dwarf crew take another shot on a series of articles, fluff, game lore + rules for a new version of the Chaos Dwarves.

Hell, it might actually get people interested in reading White Dwarf again and make the magazine relevant to Warhammer gamers again.

Only problem would be that the model line would be tiny compared to other armies and support from GW would be minimal as well.

That's worst case scenario though for me, any way you slice it though, I want the evil stunties back, :)

I wonder if a new army book and new all-Forgeworld miniatures would be an option?

Thanks for the link to the Jervis letter forthegloryofkazadekrund. So no CD till at least 2011, its a shame but not overly surprising. Will GW actually be able to get a book out b4 the next edition? Only time will tell. I still think its a shame that they did Ogre Kingdoms without looking at CD first, especially seen as they had an existing fan base.

It would be nice to see what FW could come up with if they turned their eye more towards Warhammer but then they seem to have a strange relationship with GW, almost likely a slightly embarassing relative. Still it might b nice if FW did at least come up with a CD war machine or two.

I went with complete overhaul. Never played them myself but I do like the idea/fluff behind them. Though I've got enough on my plate for the next few years, I'm a believer of 'the more the merrier' when it comes to army choices and the more armies the better, in my opinion.

Also, I've see a fair number of players on warseer play them, used to play them, or want to play them, so I say give these players a break and give them a nice, new army to enjoy!

I really want to say the 'overhaul; new book' option, but I'm choosing to be a greedy bastard and saying:

"Make them part of the Chaos mortals armylist."

A large part, mind you, but still combined with the mortal list. Because I play dwarfs, I already can say, "yay, I have lots of chaos dwarfs".
It's almost like saying, "just add spikes!"
They should also have mark abilities; no more of this silly 'Hashut' business. 4 gods of chaos in the newest lists. (Tzeentch Dwarfs; Yay!)

Yeah that annoyed me as well. I think that CD should be reintroduced to the game as I thought they were one of the more interesting races back when I first started playing (one of my mates back then actualy had a massive army of them). I'm disappointed that GW haven't gone back and looked at them again.

New overhaul.

i really dont believe half the **** GW spoon feed us. They could have done chaos dwarves over ogres/daemons but they didnt. It really wouldnt take much, hell make a conversion sprew box (ala Black templars) for dwarve troops and a half decent list. I think they could do a really wicked job of it.

Thats said i dont play chaos dwarves but i would seriously look at them should they be re-done.

I think I would start collecting Chaos Dwarfs or 'Dwarfs of Chaos' as my second army, should they be redone with completely new models and some new unit types. Also, I think they should have first right to the Hellcannon (which dosen't fit in a Mortals of Chaos warband at all, in my opinion!).

It would be nice if they brought back Chaos Dwarfs as an army, but a few units for use as Dogs of War would be fine with me. I see them more as weapons dealers, building things like the Hellcannon for other armies (notably Chaos and the Ogres), with a few soldiers escorting/guarding them

The only problem with them redoing CD is that we'd all be using them :p

to be honest for me, if they would put an up-to-date 'get you by' list in a WD i would probably be alright with that, atleast make something that I can take to a tournament. I understand (kinda) their side of the argument but I still think an updated RH list would be greatly appreciated, leave it us the gamers to create the models and I would think a lot of us chaos dward adepts would atleast quiet down .. some.

I am going to put myself in the minority here and say leave them in the past. GW should make it official so that no more of these threads will appear. It seems like half the people I play against play Chaos and would be even higher with Chaos Dwarves around.

I like this idea a lot. As I doubt I'd ever get around to collecting a whole army of them, I do have a small Dogs of War army on the go that I would love to add to. A unit or two of dogs of war chaos dwarfs would be a nice addition.

Alright I love CD. Bring them back but please no more threads like this. I thought this was a thread about army comp or wish list. There is already a ground swell of interest for the sharp toothed little freaks. Make a thread about ideas!

An army book and complete overhaul. Heep the persian/babylonian look of the hellcannon crew, and get rid of the big hats (or keep them for priest of Hashut style characters).

All three sculpts are lackluster and rather unmemorable. Better to run with the Assyrian influence of the "Big Hat" days and tone it down to match the comparative practicality of modern sculpts.

It would be nice if GW would just make a simple Warhammer: Armies book with about 5 or 6 of these fringe armies inside. Each gets around 20pages.

1. Chaos Dwarfs
2. Cathay
3. Kislev
4. Dogs of War
5. Regiments of Renown
6. Araby

It's a great idea, but it'll never happen.

Make them feature in the mortals of chaos armybook
(not just as hellcannon crews, they should be fielded into units as well. Warriors and blunderbusses can stay, not too sure about bull centaurs)
But keep them as an army that uses orc and goblin units? Definately not. (hobgoblins can stay)
