Well i've decided that after looking at many other peoples painting logs that I should start my own one. To start with i'm going to try and finish off my Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt pilot for a painting competition at my local GW store on Saturday (today being Thursday).

First up the Captain Brookes Thunderbolt of the Canton 43rd:

Looking good mate,

I like the choice of color for the belly and always like desert camo for 40K aircraft for some reason.

I am sure once the metallics are done they will make it stand out a lot more.

More Please.

Just a quick update of what I mangaed to get done yesterday, unfortunately I underestimated how long it would take to get the brown smooth, so much so I still haven't got one wing done. Got the Thunderbolt Pilot finished but my camera phone is crap and won't focus so will need to find someone with a proper camera before any pics of him. Anywho just a quick update of what I actually did:

Any comment, criticism or questions welcome

As Captain Brown would say "the long painting war continures";)

Looking good so far, high hopes for the pilot when you can get some pics. I've got plans for scratch-building my own thunderbolt - need to get plasticard.

Any other plans for your log after these are done?

What did you use on the rotors on those engines?

Was the main body painted with a brush or airbrush?

The engines were done with a basecoat of Tin Bitz highlighted with Brazen Brass with a thin Chestnut Ink wash at the end, just tried to vary the colours a little really.

With a brush, which is why i've taken a little break from it, lol, been working on Guard stuff for a change (opposed to just looking at it), will finish of the markings etc, over the next couple of weeks hopefully.

Well my Thunderbolt pilot is still in my local GW's cabinet as it won 1st place in their last painting competition, need to borrow a digital camera as my phone just can't focus on it, sigh.

The Thunderbolt has not been forgotten but i'm currently painting up a new Guard army for the release of 5th Edition that my local store is doing based upon the Oath of Moment idea that the Sons of Horus do in the HH series.

I have pledged to paint at least 500pts by the release day, July 12th, but am planning a 750pt Armoured Company list but is essentially a Mechanised Guard army

Army list is:
HQ
Armoured Fist Company HQ
Salamander Command Vehicle, Extra Armour, Smoke Launchers 108
Special Rules: Surveyor & Improved Comms

Elites
Armoured Fist Command Section
Lieutenant with Plasma Pistol, Frag Grenades
4 Guardsmen, Medic, Vox, 2 Plasma Guns, Frag Grenades 80
Chimera, Turret Autocannon, Hull Heavy Bolter, Extra armour, Smoke Launchers 98

Troops
Armoured Fist
Sgt with Lasgun
9 Guardsmen, Plasma Gun, Vox Caster, Frag Grenades 85
Chimera, Turret Multi Laser, Hull Heavy Bolter, Extra Armour, Smoke Launchers 93

Armoured Fist
Sgt with Lasgun
9 Guardsmen, Flamer, Vox Caster, Frag Grenades 81
Chimera, Turret Multi Laser, Hull Heavy Bolter, Extra Armour, Smoke Launchers 93

Fast Attack
Salamander Scout, Extra Armour, Smoke Launchers 108

Total 746

So far all that i've got finished is the Command Section Chimera, below, but aim to have the next Chimera finished by Monday at the latest. C&C welcome as always

Looking good so far, especially with such a nice chimera conversion. Are these vehicles going to have one base colour or will they get camouflage?

As for mobile phone cameras, I can strongly recommend the Sony Ericsson K850i. 5MPs! Wonderfully crisp photos.

Cheers ma Lord, lol, this ones done and the second is almost there. It does have some weathering but its hard to make out but the colour scheme is just a plain drab green with edge highlights.

The Mech Guard are currently on the back burner, which is a pain, mainly due to the need to finish my Templars to 1750pts for the 40K World Wide War tournament that i'll be taking part at in Edinburgh with the Edinburgh League of Gamers. That and Forgeworld took a while to get the bits to me, no great surprise;)

I'll put up pics of the second Chimera and the first Salamander soon, although keep an eye for some Black Templars!

Looks Awesome bro.I Gotta post some pics of my Thunderbolt we have a pretty similar scheme, the only difference is my belly colors gull gray.(I wanted to it look like a P47.)

Cool, I was going for the DAF colour scheme which had a bright blue underside but I have to say I was close to doing grey for a while.

Just so everyone knows I haven't given up and fallen off the face of the planet i've just been painting lots of Flames of War stuff, mainly my U.S. Rangers plus their supporting elements of M10's and Shermans during the invasion of Africa. If I can find a good camera i'll try and get some pics.

As for my Guard i've just been re-jigging the list to use the normal Codex (along with a couple of FW options) and will be getting a second Chimera finished soon, hopefully

Ah good to see the FW policy of putting the railguns on the arms rather than the shoulders. Good stuff.

I also have been converting my battlesuits, somthing i found out was the XV25 shoulder pad fits perfectly over the bottom half of the leg for the XV8 resulting in a more armored mobile suit looking leg.(the circle of the shield goes on the knee joint)

Oh yes, but i'm thinking of making a plastic version based on a design I saw on another forum, hopefully get them made soon:)

Good idea, I do need to think of someway of bulking it up to represent the better armour.

You can say that again... :p

Nice conversions as ever. Mind if I use a picture or two for the new Tactica? You'll be credited, obviously.
