If you have a situation where you are using a weapon which inflicts D3 wounds instead of 1 wound per failed armour save, and you inflict two wounds you therefore roll 2xD3 for the total wounds inflicted.

Well isnt this the same as rolling a single D6? so couldnt you just do that instead?

The reason i ask is my brother brought this up rolling a D6 and getting a 4, four wounds, when i said he should have rolled 2xD3 and so he did that instead and rolled a 1 and a 2, 2 wounds... was that fair or should i have let him have the D6 roll?

2D3 is very different from D6.

On 2d3 you cannot roll 1, and you're far more likely to roll 4 than on D6.

Possibilites from rolling a d6 = 1,2,3,4,5,6
Possibilities from rolling two d3's = 1+1, 1+2, 1+3, 2+1, 2+2, 2+3, 3+1, 3+2, 3+3. = 2, 3, 4, 3, 4, 5, 4, 5, 6.

In comparison, a d6 has a 1/6 chance of rolling a one, two d3's have a 0 chance of rolling a one, ect.

(If I missed out possibilites, please forgive...I'm tired)

Well, knowing he rolled a 4 for wounds, you should have had that be his first d3 (or 2 wounds). Then had him roll another d3, but otherwise you were perfectly correct. 2d3 will average more wounds, but d6 has a greater chance of getting 6 wounds.

Don't forget that that you can not do more wounds to one model than it has wounds on it's Profile. This means that a 3 wound creature will take 3 wounds if they roll a 6. So it is VERY different. 2d3 has a chance of totaling 6 wounds to a unit made up of 3 wound figures while 1d6 can only do 3 wounds max.

This is from a character with some sort of weapon that does d3 wounds yes? If he scored 2 wounds that multiply into d3 wounds he should roll 2 d3 !!! If he inficted 2 wounds and rolled a d6 and got a 1 that would make the magic weapon useless !! :|

Allow me to hijack this thread.

How about 2 wounds each being multiplied by say d6 on models with 3 wounds each, first wound deals 2, second 4. How exactly would that work out, a 6 wounds totalling in 2 models dead, or would the max wounds caused per hit be 3 wounds due to the models wounds being 3 give a total of 5 wounds even though more was rolled?

The maximum on each roll is 3.

In Volapyk's scenario, it would be one model dead and one model with 2 wounds on it. You cant do more wounds then a model has with a multiple wound weapon.
