Norn Queen!

I followed the description in Warriors of Ultramar. She is stuck on the ceiling of the brood chamber with her legs attached to the walls. A tube runs the length of the chamber (tail). I have fitted this tube with a rending Maw that would normally bite onto various bioreservoirs as materials were needed. In this free walking form it would grab and swallow the same models as a Red Terror. She has a huge brain pod which extends up into the ship she's inhabiting. I have stained it so you can see all the plates. Nerves would extend from the cracks between to control the bioship whick broadcasts/ boosts the signals to the fleet. Note the "vestigial" mouth and large brood orifice below. Finally she has the spines which kill by coagulating all a victim's blood. In an Apocalypse game she is a walking Brood Nest producing units up to Carnifex size. She has a pair of scything talons, Gargantuan Spine Fist, toxic miasma, and regenerate, Synapse, warp Field and probably Warp Blast.

Very cool model, but I always imagined Norn Queens as much, much larger, they are the gigantic ship sized birthing nids, right? I'm not so up on my nids at Apocalypse size level or above.

Great conversion work, this will be a fantastic bio titian. Where are you finding your models?

When I first saw this, I saw it as more of a Head Crab from Half Life rather than an Alien.

Thats because its not an alien, its a facehugger... Technically not the same thing...

whered you get the model/toy from (I assume you didnt sculpt it yourself)?

I threw up a little but in the back of my mouth when I saw that. The only other model that has ever made me do that is the FW Malanthrope. That means that you have successfully made something so so great and terrible that it out gribbles and out blergs even the most bluh armies out there.

*Note: Gribbly, Blerg, and Bluh are technical terms. Gribbly generally denotes something with tentacles, blerg implies that something eating habits are not run of the mill, and bluh relates something to a feeling of pure nausea- the sort that puts you in a cold sweat.

so yeah, sweet fig!

its too recognizable as a modified aliens model. Tyranids have really moved away from the giger look since 2nd edition and I'm really not a fan of trying to cross the two genres, sorry.

Have to agree here. You've also given it eight limbs, Tyranid organisms would have six. Apart from the obvious origins of the parts used its a pretty good job though (although a bit small, and one would never go down to the surface ;)), nice one. I like the idea of it being a mobile brood nest spawning creatures as it goes

Pretty cool, but perhaps a 'belly' type bulge, with rippers or eggs in or something, to hide the face-hugger origins?

Interesting. I like it, but the fact I can instantly see the facehugger underneath spoils it a little for me. Good use of bits and great green stuff work. Lets see a paintjob!

Well I'm impressed! A couple of ideas though (bearing in mind I don't know the fluff on the Norn Queen)...

Take off the front two legs (to give it six, as mentioned).
Expand the (for want of a better description) "side flaps" underneath the torso/abdomen, so they're like big bulbous wombs or whatever Nids/insects/aliens have.
Give it some kind of Nid head, or GS over the existing one.
Maybe replace the flap/sack thing on it's back with some more Nid-style armour plating.

I think some more work/ideas like that would distinguish it more from a face-hugger and make it more Tyranid-y.

Great work so far though, and even if you leave it as-is, I think it's great. I'm only trying to make suggestions after reading other people's comments.

Thanks for the comments. It is a facehugger vinyl model from Ebay. The forward limbs are massive mandibles, vertical like a Tarantula's. The side pouches are pretty huge already, I'm sure there will be more definition after paint. I will add the spiricles at the base of the tail and brain case before priming. Look underneath and you will see the vestigial mouth.

I'm a huge fan of the HR Geiger and Alien lifecycle/predator-prey design.

This is a very cool idea for a biotitan sized tyranid and it's very well pulled off, however I personally would use this as a heirophant close combat alteration. If I recall correcty though (I could be very wrong of course, I by no means collect nids as a first army) the Norn Queen is the leader of a hive fleet or center of the hive mind and 2nd in size to the dominatrix bio titan.

Just my $0.02 criticism of the fluff side of things here... love the model itself.

I believe the Dominatrix to be smaller than a Norn Queen as it is slightly smaller than a Hierophant in Epic. Not to worry, my Dominatrix is about the same height but longer.
