Since much of what I'm painting these days seems to be a bit of a mixed bag, mainly for various competitions I've decided to just collect it all into one thread from now on. First up is a pic of a conversion I'm working on at the moment for my single figure entry into the GW national painting contest. The conversion is inspired by Dark Apostle's tremendous piece in the general painting forum though with a bit of variation.

I loved the idea of a crazed wanderer preaching doom and destruction across the small villages and backroads of the Empire, perhaps an excomunicated warrior priest gone mad or a rouge wizard who's read a little too much from some contraband books. Hope to have him painted up over the next week or so.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Dante

Did you sculpt the parchment on the spear? Or what kit!

Can't wait for it to be painted! By the way consider the face mask stolen! for my flagellants. Yes i know it comes in that kit but i'm converting most of mine so i'll put one on a wizard body!

What colours are you going to use?

Oh my. Your crazed wanderer is really evocative. Well done.
Maybe some blood dripping from the pages of the book? Or would that be to cheesy? (I tend to be overly fond of the melodramatic.)

Cheers guys, been a bit busy last week what with starting a new job and all but I will be working on him today. The parchment on the staff is the top of a banner pole from the new empire handgunners kit.

Cheers,

Dante

Just a quick update to show my progress so far. The red robes are almost done as is the interior of the cloak and the mask. The wood on the staff still needs a little work. I'm very pleased with the way the skin has turned out, tried a new method for it and I think its turned out very nice. The robes and cloak will get some weathering once everything else is done. Anyway, let me know what you think.

Pics were a bit of a mixed bag so please forgive the yellowness of some of them.

Also maybe some gold on his belt. Something need to break the colours up :D

Bit rushed in the end so didn't do everything to quite the level I would have liked but still pleased with the results. Anyway, let me know what you think.

Cheers,

Great job, really nice subtle colouring and the vulture is great, really characterful.

The only thing I'd change is the text: It looks far too thin, like he wrote it on with a pen that had nearly run out. I think it could do with being a bit heavier.

Nice how did you do the cape?

Some excellent modelling/painting there. Though i have to agree with Mcmullet on the text.

otherwise a topnotch job.

Cool mini. I really like the idea with an ex-wizard gone mad, consider that stolen (for what it's worth, it's probably quite common). One thing though... the sculpted hand or rather the arm could have a bit more "flow". I think it seems a bit flat
