We are a few gits thinking about starting up Blood Bowl but it seems that there are issues with rules and balancing of teams as we see house-rule after house-rule being dsplayed by different people. An example is the Goblins which according to the rules (as far as I know) can only have one Troll in their team when players often field two etc, etc...

What I am after here is basicaly asking you guys what rules are needed for us to enjoy the game to the fullest and get sort of balanced rules for our teams. Are there any annuals? What is needed beside the rulebook that comes with the books? And last, but not least, what house-rules are the most well used ones and why do you guys use it?

Cheers

I'd say download a copy of LRB5 and just use that. Leagues run very well under the new rules.

There is no way to buy this copy of LRB5 somewhere?

Not at the moment, but it is the one on the GW sites which makes it the official version of the rules. I use LRB5 only without any extra rules and I prefer it over any previous version of "3rd Edition/Grass Pitch" BB.

What extra rules might that be?

Goblins have been able to have 2 trolls since 3rd edition.

I play LRB4, but use the Team Value and Journeyman rules from LRB5, a 3-tiered handicap table based on the MBBL2 version, and a few skill changes.

But if you're only just getting back into the game, I'd recommend using straight LRB5.

Yeah, just download living rulebook 5 from specialist-games (gobs have 2 trolls in this version). The only teams you may want to avoid to begin with are Ogre and Vampire teams, but that still leaves 19 well balanced teams to choose from ;)

lol, they are far from well balanced, but they are about as good as it gets.

And Ogres and Vamps are as balanced as goblins and halflings.
