it seems ive been working on this list for weeks but its getting there. what i wanted was an army to face all comers. a mix of solid infantry and great firepower. any thoughts?


LORDS
Dwarf lord / shieldbearers, great weapon, rune of stone / 181

HEROES
Thane / master rune of gromril, battle standard bearer / 115

Thane / great weapon, shield / 71

Rune smith / 2x rune of spellbreaking / 120

CORE
19 long beards / full command, shields / 253 (thane here)

10 quarrellers / shields / 120

Seems like a good list. In general, I would use another block of cc troops, but to each his own. Unless you get a hill, you will not be able to bring you firepower to bear, and the enemy will try to use fast troops to war machine hunt and I don't think you will be able to stop them.

Here are a few thoughts. Hope they are of some help.

LORDS
Dwarf lord / shieldbearers, great weapon, rune of stone / 181

I used to always run a lord in hammerers just like you have, but honestly, without an anvil, they will never get into combat. Everyone just avoids them and you can't catch with M3. Stick a Master Rune of Challenge on him and screw up your opponents plans. I know it's increasing his points, but I like to stick rune of resistance on for the rerolls.

As an aside, occasionally throw in rune of steel. Then, unless you are hit by someone who ignores armour, any hits are at best strength 5. For each hit this gives
To Wound = 1/2
Fail armour save at -2 (due to S5) 1/3
Fail re roll armour save = 1/3
Multiplying together gives 1/18. Oh how I laughed at Chaos Lords or Grimgor trying all day to get a wound.

HEROES

I know it isn't that many points, but it is quite a lot for what he can achieve. 2 S6 hits, striking last. Usually try to find points for rune of stone

Rune smith / 2x rune of spellbreaking / 120

Cool. Try to find points for a shield (for +2AS), and Rune of Stone, if you can. Shield is more important for this guy than the great weapon guy.

CORE
19 long beards / full command, shields / 253 (thane here)

Cool. I like to try to stick an extra model or two so that I can get the full rank bonus even after losing a guy or two.

I don't really see the point in an engineer on a cannon. I usually consider rune of forging a must have.

I know my comments mostly add points. This is something I would consider doing without, or maybe a unit of quarellers to fund it.

Bet you wouldn't laugh if they stood right there in front of you :rolleyes:

Can't say anything about Rune of Steel. it's a must have, that's all.
But, for this reason, I do not go Dwarf hunting without something that negates Armour Saves or Causes Killing blow (oh true, you guy also had something against that one, right?)


Great list. Dwarfs are dangerous.
