Woah.... Papa Nurgle would be proud...

25-06-2006, 08:59
Thanks again for everyone for your comments. Shaper Shakra, it is quite funny that the traitor-force I created was named Shakra'Goan... I have no idea where I got that name from :) Still, I am sorry for your money and all the hard time you will be spending to create that LatD army of yours. I would like to see some pics, any chance? Anyways, your idea of mixing different legions is a good one, maybe creating a conclave of all legions as the chosen? I have to think about it, but at the moment I propably just will be going WB style all the way.

And yeah, I am back from a holiday at the countryside, so next week there will be some painting done on this army

25-06-2006, 09:17
Very lovely daemon over there awaiting for it to be painted.
As what is it going to be used daemon prince or a great unclean one? Anyway its a fantastic conversion.

25-06-2006, 09:20
nice GUO.
i've recently finished mine. i didn't really like the GW one so I fully sculpted a new one.

oh and the defilier looks ace, that skull really makes it stand out.
anyways keep up the good (or evil) work.

27-06-2006, 14:42
Yesterday I played my first Cities of Death game, against 1kSons of AngryGrot. It was really fun, although I got trashed and beaten... my army requires either more basic troops and some bloodletters/termies to drive the enemies out of the ruins, or just some better tactics. I think that future will bring me both. Anyways, CoD gives the army an entirely new challenges to face, which is of course welcome.

The defiler will be ready this week, some pics will follow within a couple of days... and then I get to paint the GUO and the chosen. Great!

27-06-2006, 16:08
Sounds like you have a good attitude. Most people I know would be screaming angry if they lost that game.

29-06-2006, 18:25
I like playing, whether I win or lose. That way I enjoy (almost, not the ones that are totally onesided, for me or the opponent) all the games I play... if I would enjoy only when I win, about half of the games would be unenjoyable (is that a word?).

Anyways, I have been converting even more chosen termies, tomorrow I promise you some pics. They look mean I tell you, so stay tuned! and oh yeah, I try to finish the defiler tomorrow too.

30-06-2006, 02:29
can't wait. Tomarrow it is!

30-06-2006, 11:07
As promised, I got that defiler finished. That was a huge task, one that I am not very eager to ever do again, as it took much longer time than I had hoped. But still I am proud of the result, here are some pics of the monster... and oh yeah, I got me a tripod, now my pics are going to be a bit better.

And here is a very early WIP shot of more termies. First is an reaper-AC wielding feral guy, who will have something done to the gun to make it more "reapery".. ie. giving it another barrel or something. The second is a sorcerer-champion, who got a pointing power fist (he is about to shoot some doombolt) and an additional closecombat blade under his other arm to allow the hand to freely do some sorcerous gestures. The last is an icon bearer, who will have something more done to his faceplate -helmet-thingie. More WIP stuff will follow in the future.

30-06-2006, 11:14
Looks as good as ever. Keep it up. Any chance of some army shots.

30-06-2006, 11:16
I will take an armyshot when I get GUO finished, then the army is about 1500pts.

Rabid Bunny 666
30-06-2006, 11:50
Very swish dude, the Defiler is awesome, and about the Reaper Autocannon, i'd just modify a Chain Axe to hang under the barrel.

30-06-2006, 15:28
Defiler looks really-really good. I hope to get that good at painting one day. BTW-how long have you been modeling, ect?

30-06-2006, 16:10
I have been playing and painting about 9 years, although within last 2 years or so I have been doing models in "high standard" (if I may say so). I am not a very tidy painter, I just spend very much time fixing my faults and getting things the way I like them, and because of this the defiler took something like 15-20+ hours to do (maybe much more, as I do not count).

Anyways, nice that you like the model, like I have said before all the comments and feedback keep this project going on (for something like 7-8 months at the moment.).

30-06-2006, 17:16
wel don't stop exo, you've got talent. I'de love to play you one day, damn shame you live in finland.

01-07-2006, 11:20
bluebugs, where do you happen to live? In case I get a work which makes me make some trips to foreign countries... some day, when you least expect it, mr Exo comes knocking at your door and challenge you to a nice game of 40k ;)

Anyways, here is a current WIP shot of the GUO. I am really happy of the skintone, it took many layers and lots of inking & washing to get it the way I liked it, but the result looks nice and sick :). Not much left, I hope to get him finished on monday or wednesday... then I have about 1500pts ready to go.

01-07-2006, 11:28
I really like the GuO, the head makes him stand so much more out. This is good.

01-07-2006, 11:29
The GUO looks so much better painted, wasn't too sure before.

01-07-2006, 11:30
wow! exo that heads looking even better now it has a coat of paint. now hurry up and finish him/it and get a group photo taken;) .

01-07-2006, 11:49
Really like the mottled effect of the skin, and the new head is great, ties him in to the rest of your army better

01-07-2006, 12:27
Great GUO!

01-07-2006, 12:29
ExoCowboy Your works is out of this world and I dont now what a GUO is but it looks the part ,Looks like some thing out of Dr Who :p Keep up the cool work

01-07-2006, 12:49
Great Unclean One looks superb painted. Keep up the good work!

01-07-2006, 13:05
Thanks all for the kind words.

Deadleyheadley, GUO means Great Unclean One (I think you now know what it is), the greater daemon of Nurgle. I didnt like the head of the original model, so I made one fitting my army as a whole :)

Rabid Bunny 666
01-07-2006, 14:42
That GUO ROCKS! Nice work dude.

01-07-2006, 17:11
That Great Unclean One is disgusting, in a good way. :D And the Defiler is also great.

01-07-2006, 20:06
I live on the east coast of the USA exo, so i wouldn't get too excited. But DAMN!!!! look at that GUO. Very nice, now i want one

02-07-2006, 03:38
I have to say, your incredible paintiing forced me to read the 52 pages of preceding work. It's amazing work, truly.

A couple of questions I was wondering if you could answer. 1. What's the mix you're using for that neon green? 2. How did you sculpt the eyes I see placed everywhere?

Pardon if these have been asked before.

02-07-2006, 12:28
Hey Exo,

This is my first post to this thread, although I have been following it from your first post...your thread is the only one I follow regularly, I definately hope you keep posting for a while.

Cool army. The only critique I have is that some paintwork and colors are a bit too cartoon-like for my taste, but I really like your conversions. They are very creative. I especially like the icon bearer with the marine on a pole. This model has inspired me to do something similar (better to steal a good idea than to be original with a bad one).

grtz, BigD

02-07-2006, 14:16
Wow, that is really disgusting. Well Done!

02-07-2006, 19:00
Wow, it was great to come back home from a trip to the countryside to see all these praising comments. Thanks!

@bluebugs: ok, USA is quite far from here, so I propably wont be coming then ;). Europe would have been a little more realistic, although still not very propable.

@BigD: Cool to hear that you have been following this thread for so long, it is really a long time. Do not be afraid, I am not thinking of stopping posting here. When I get WB's done to a good state, I will do some traitors for Lost and the Damned -armylist. So a long way still to go. I know that the colours etc. are a bit cartooney, but one can't please all.. that is the thing I can do well, so I'll stick to it ;)

@WillFightForFood: for the neon greens (mostly eyes), I first paint them using Catachan Green, then with Goblin Green, then with a mix of Goblin green and Bad Moon Yellow (if I recall correctly, I check tomorrow, could be some other yellow), then with a pure (very watered down) Bad Moon Yellow. Then I give it a wash of old yellow or green glaze to make it a bit shiney...

...and continuing, the eyes are sculpted by making a small blob (a ball) of green stuff, putting it into its place and then using some tool to "blend" the edges into the surface. The tool is then used to carve a hole into this blob,to make a place for the to-be eye. when this looks nice, you make another ball of GS, and put it into this place. I take some pics of this some day, as my writings might be difficult to comprehend. Anyways, it is really easy, the first GS attempts I have ever done.

03-07-2006, 15:33
One more WIP shot of the GUO before it is finished. Now only final details (some maggots etc. + nurglings) left to do. I wanted to make the scythe "fleshy", as I will be also using Gift of Chaos -psychic power (the one that makes enemies chaos spawn)... Gatrok Mau-Gorgle, the Rotfather and the Eternal Maggotcorpse is very skilled to mould mortal flesh to new chaotic forms. Anyways, enough of babbling, here is the picture:

03-07-2006, 15:37
Ew. I really admire people's ability to make Nurgle stuff look really manky.

Fantastic stuff! the claw on his thumb looks a little too clean and bright, though. Might just be the lighting.

Rabid Bunny 666
03-07-2006, 15:44
Disgustingly cool :)

03-07-2006, 23:31
Gatrok Mau-Gorgle, the Rotfather and the Eternal Maggotcorpse

How do you keep coming up with these cool names?

and very cool.

04-07-2006, 13:11
How do you keep coming up with these cool names?

Usually I think of them when I am in sauna. Being up naked in a steamingly hot environment with nothing else to do one gets some cool ideas to use as names for characters... and for their background. And also ideas for conversions and paint-schemes.

I sound like a weirdo.

ps. nice that you like the name

Talking about controversy!!!

When I'll be in a sauna (not that I've ever been to one) I think that I'll think about how many women can squeez in there with me.

On topic now, I would like to post about the rotting flesh colouring. Please master, teach us the way of shreding skin and rotting mass. The minature is awsome.

04-07-2006, 16:04
Can't wait to see the daemon vessel for this guy. As well as the chaos spawn he can create. Maggots everywhere.

05-07-2006, 10:03
I finally got the GUO finished and varnished, it turned out to be one of the best paintings I have ever done (and sculptings too). Here is a piccie:

As promised, today I will be taking a new army-shot of the posse, as I have now reached the 1500pts limit with finished models. It will take a while though, as I am really hungry and also have some chores to do (laundry etc. highly entertaining stuff).

Comments are required ;)

05-07-2006, 10:21
looking awesome mate. the brown nurgling is a big improvement too.

didnt you know your chores include taking a whole army photo!

05-07-2006, 11:18
I took the army-shot (or shots, as I always need to take many pics to get one good one), here is a link to it. I didn't put it as a picture here, as it would invoke the dreaded scrollbar of doom.

In the near future I will put up my armylist for you to see also. And oh yeah, next in line are chosen terminators, so stay tuned!

05-07-2006, 12:20
Nice! That's a mighty fine army you've got yourself there. :)

The GUO actually makes me feel a quite queasy.

05-07-2006, 12:56
Thats a fantastic army!

Is that the 1500pt force finished?

You taking it further than that?

EDIT: Think my Avatar says it all!!!!

05-07-2006, 12:58
Bloody good army composition as well.

05-07-2006, 14:44
great army exo, but how does it play? Obviously anyone in the tactics section would have your head for not choosing daemonettes, or a blood thirster. as well as having a defiler and a dread. But you play for fun, as do I. However it seems the only forward advancing unit you have it the possesed, and even they move only 6. As well as getting those plague beaerer into combat as soon as they are summoned. Just curious.

05-07-2006, 18:59
Some answers:

@cookiescrumble: The 1500pts force is now finished, but I am going to add to this army, and also make some LatD allies for it. Next are the terminators, 3rd obliterator, deamonhost, bloodletters, a couple of squads of marines, predator, maybe a land raider. Then a couple of squads of traitors, some tanks for them, maybe mutants and spawn. So the project continues.

@bluebugs: I choose units which are fun to convert, paint and to play with, whether they are good choices or not. This may add a bit more challenge to the games I play, yes, but I also enjoy the games more by using the models I really like. At first the army had some great difficulties, mainly because of lack of speed and real firepower, but now I have more shooty stuff (havocs, dread, defiler, oblies, and short ranged power of plasmagun+bolter marines), which distracts the enemy from my assault elements... they might even end up into combat alive. The possessed are in most games dead before they reach combat, so I dropped the daemonic talons from them to make them cheaper (as they die like normal marines to ap4- weapons), and they are there to escort the lieutenant and daemons to combat. Flesh hounds are really fast, so they can also tackle some enemy firesupport units on the way. I also ALWAYS move with my basic marines to get them to rapid fire range, where they can also assault with their power fist wielding champion if situation is dire. I also use defiler as another dreadnought, moving towards the enemy while giving some ordnance supporting fire. So in the end, the dread, defiler, oblies, marines, possessed, lieutenant and deamons all pressure the enemy by moving towards them, so that I may be the aggressor in the game, getting the enemy to respond the way I hope. This aggressive tactic has proven to be quite effective, giving the army many wins recently against different opponents. Yes, it still has the drawbacks, but winning with an army like this is much more rewarding than with an 4 pieplate IW army of doom

06-07-2006, 03:40

Can't argue with that logic. I feel the same about my thousand sons (let's face it, I wouldn't play them if i was competative). Also can't wait for new models. As for the blood letters, should we expect metal, or beastmen?

Hi Exo,

The look of a finished, well painted army which looks like a single force...ahh...always a nice sight.

One question though...shouldn't you make a deomonhost first? It might be a cool idea to make a champ with deamonic chains which looks like a Great Unclean One is about to burst out. You need a host to field a greater deamon.

grt. BigD

Yes I know I need the host to field greater daemons... I have been playing this game for a long time, and this is in fact my 3rd chaos army, so I do know the rules

Anyways, I didnt want to make the host before I finished the GUO, as I will base the host into the the GUO characteristics to tie the two into each other... so some Green stuffing fun will be in the future. So at this moment, the following guy has been acting as a possessed champion and a deamon host to allow me to use GUO in games:

Your idea of GUO bursting out from the host is a good one, and I will propably use that idea as a reference when I convert the guy.

@bluebugs: I have a unit of bloodletters (I do not know how many I have, about 6 I think), who have been soaking in brake-fluid over half a year now. So although idea of converting them out from beastmen is a great one, and something I would like to do, expect to see some metal bletters in the near future.

06-07-2006, 14:36
Awesome as always.

06-07-2006, 15:25
It is old model, the 5th model I did for this army. So nothing new here :)

06-07-2006, 16:45
Wow, finally got to the end of this thread, and Exo I must say my jaw hurts from the amount of times it hits the floor everyitme I see one of your models. They are all awesome beyond belief, and I must urge you to keep painting them, and letting us see!!!!
Again very very well done.

08-07-2006, 13:33
The final WIP shot of the first terminator. Only base, the drilling of barrels and the fixing of the middle-skull trophy needed, and Varak Headtaker, the Bloodtyrant of Karmasa, is ready to kick some butt. Yes, he has a mark of khorne on his forehead, but ruleswise he is just one of the chosen with mark of undivided... I just want them all to look like big villains of their own.

08-07-2006, 13:52
nice work exo, aslong as they all end up nasty pieces of work, as chosen should! its all good.

keep em coming.... or please feel free to divert to the latd

08-07-2006, 14:58
Nice, those termies will stand out quite good, and since you gave him the mark of Khorne, why not squeeze in the other marks on the other chosen, just for kicks.. :D

09-07-2006, 01:59
Yes I know I need the host to field greater daemons....

Yep, I figured you know the rules, that´s why I did not explain the deamonic chains-rules. The model use as a deamon-host is a good stand-in, by the way. Very nurgle-ly.

Cool looking terminator as well. I´m curious to see what you think of for the next couple of terminators.

09-07-2006, 08:55
Some more termies will follow, but I have to say others in first 5 will not have marks of gods... I will be doing the squad into 9 eventually, then other gods will get their models too :). Next one is a feral looking (space wolvesque?) autocannon-guy, some pics will come tomorrow.

09-07-2006, 11:10
Cool as always Exo...

Must say it would look bquite cool to have each terminator 'dedicated' to a different god; would suit the WB's role of worshipping the whole pantheon of chaos. You could include some 'lesser nkkown' gods too to increase the number up to nine.. (horned rat, Horus himself as examples)

BTW, my wife walked past and said that your avatar was very cool (She didn't say anything about the minis - women eh!)

09-07-2006, 13:07
long time no comment so I´ll make it up to you ;) great GUO looking really different and super at the same time. Love the face you´ve done.

The termie looks great and really mean so sweet. Well can´t find any thing to critize but well great army can´t wait for more updates

A neutral shade of black.
09-07-2006, 13:11

It'd be awesome if you could do the four "riders" of the Apocalypse (Abaddon - get it?). You have War, so get cracking on the other three. ;)

10-07-2006, 09:19
Varak Headtaker, the Bloodtyrant of Karmasa is ready to kick some imperial butt:

He turned out quite nice in the end, I had my doubts at one point. And the second one is also almost finished, some pics will come tomorrow I think. Stay tuned!

the dark angel
10-07-2006, 17:39
know that is one awsome terminator!i love your work, the reds are very strong, love the possessed, any chance you could tell us how you painted the red?

keep it up and keep the faith in the chaos gods, you made me start a WB army:D

Dance of Winter
11-07-2006, 07:02
They are looking very nice! The red colour is very well painted.

How many layers of red do you paint, before having that kind of smooth red?

Are you going to play in the Ropecon 40k tournament this year?

/Dance of Winter

11-07-2006, 11:23
Yes, I will be going to Ropecon to tournament... I dont have high expectations about faring against very competitive tournament lists, but I know my army and it can surprise me by getting me into the better half of the players. The tournament has motivated me to getting enough models painted, so I will be having the army quite big within a month (getting chosen done, one more oblie and maybe even a daemonhost + bloodletters). And of course, a big thing for me is to see how the army fares in "best painted army" -competition... lets keep thumbs up

The red is done by painting a basecoat of scorched brown + scab red mix over chaos black undercoat. This is then coated and smoothed with pure watered down scab red (leaving some of the brownish red to the recesses). After this, the highlights are painted with a mix of blood red + bad moon yellow. As my highlighting is quite untidy, this is then tidied up and "blended" with a coat of pure scab red (it covers very well). Then the highlights are finished with pure blood red into parts where needed (I don't want them to be too orangey, only so that the yellow gives the blood red a bit more "edge"). The final touch, after the whole model is painted, is to give it a coat of matt varnish, which even more deepens the reds.

Hope that helps :)

And yes, the dark angel, it is really nice and flattering to hear that I may have motivated you to start a WB force of your own.. as we are the greatest legion there is! Anyways, if possible I would like to see some pics of your models as you get them done :)

13-07-2006, 07:47
The second terminator chosen is almost done, only minor details, basing and varnishing left. So say hello to Azef Tharudor, the Doombringer of Chaos (and he looks a bit like a pirate, which is always cool )

And here is a sideview to show the reaper autocannon, made from heavy flamer, 2 autocannon barrels, axe blade, marauder shield and some Green stuff.

13-07-2006, 08:04
Excellent work! keep updating. :)

A neutral shade of black.
13-07-2006, 08:10
Holy crap.

This is your best model so far. Awesome work.

13-07-2006, 08:48
been following this thread since, well ähm ever. I think you did a great job, although the "cartoony" look isn't quite what I would prefer on my minis, I really think your army looks great. Your painting skills are great! keep it up!

Just a question, are you going to include more daemons? I think daemonettes would fit very well to further go into the bright colours you're mixing into the deep red of the word bearers

13-07-2006, 09:08
More daemons will come, at least a unit of bloodletters (I have the models soaking in break fluid, been there over a half a year...). Daemonettes might be also cool to paint, although I do not like slaanesh (my least favourite of the Four Gods). Horrors + flamers could also be nice to paint, with very rich and deep colour palette.

But next in line are the rest of chosen, then 3rd obliterator, then the daemonhost, bloodletters, and a squad of basic marines. Then a predator I think, and after that, who knows... but nothing is set in the stone.

13-07-2006, 09:36
That autocannon is a brilliant piece of work. the sheild looks really good on it.

13-07-2006, 12:44
looking good, just hope you don't beat me to painting my horrors/flamers, or i may have to steal your ideas.

13-07-2006, 13:12
Just a thought, didn't you say your GUO had the spawnifying psychic power? Won't you need some spawn made up for that?

13-07-2006, 13:22
Great looking Termies!!!!! Very Brutal and Angry And Quite Chaotic!!!!!!

14-07-2006, 15:36
May I present to you Azef Tharudor, the Doombringer of Chaos:

I am really proud of him, one of my best (yet still quite subtle) conversions, especially the cannon and beard were fun to do. I have converted 2 more termies, the icon bearer and a sorcerer-champion. Should be a blast to paint them, some WIP shots will come maybe sunday or so.

And Endemion, I will be doing 2 spawn for GUO to run around with, I just forgot them from my list :). Some Green stuffing fun will follow when I get to them

The boyz
14-07-2006, 16:37
Wow he looks very cool ExoCowboy. I love the conversion work, especially the twin linked autocannon. Great paint job too. I really like the blue on the fingers of his chain fist. The pale flesh tone of his face looks good as well. The various freehand looks nice, the Chaos star on his chain fist looks great.

19-07-2006, 19:23
Just to show you that I have not only been slacking (although this week goes to being the bestman for my brother's wedding so painting is very secondary consideration..), here is a WIP shot of Still Unnamed ChaosChampionSorcerer for the chosen. Yes, the painting sucks at the moment, but that is just the way I do them.. I hope to make him look nice eventually. I just noticed that I have to GS him one more fingertip to the powerfist, so even there is some work to be done...

Anyways, some comments on the conversion work and the overall look would be most welcome.

Shaper Shakra
19-07-2006, 20:05
I like him. It would be cool if he was pointing with two fingers (he's using Doombolt, right? If not ignore me). BTW where's his head from?

20-07-2006, 04:29
I like this guy, but he's far from done. However, doom bolt's cool as i hear you face nids a lot (well, that's all i've gathered) but, if you see a lot of meq, or just want a change i think wind of chaos should be on this dude, it's an awesome power.

20-07-2006, 07:27
The head is from Chaos Space Marine plastic champion (the one that comes in the sprue with heavy bolter, power fist etc.), with the horns cut off and replaced with curly horns from fantasy battle's skeleton-sprue.

Yes, I will be using primarily doombolt... the squad will eventually be 9 models strong I think, so there will be 3 reapers and the doombolt, which should be enough to scare even MEQs (I face lots of them too..). Although I will be giving that Wind of chaos some test-runs to see if that would be even better, so thanks for the advice. I will tell you how it has fared when I get to it. And I will also think about two of the fingers pointing on that fist.

The WIP sorceror is looking good Exo, cant wait to see him finish.

25-07-2006, 20:08
Throughout this entire thread, I am completely amazed your painting skills Exo. Seeing the job you have done and the time it has taken you, I am inspired to start my Alpha legion army now. I have been completely floored by your skills. Good job and keep up the work!

25-07-2006, 20:48
Any update on the terminators?

26-07-2006, 02:59
yeah, c'mon exo!

26-07-2006, 18:39
I have been progressing with them, some pics will come propably tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, but the brother's wedding + some other stuff has kept me busy. Anyways, stay tuned :)

27-07-2006, 17:50
Thanks for the patience, here is a WIP shot of the sorcerer of the squad. May I present to you Angra Khai Khamien, the Scourge of Sharnigoth:

Comments are most welcome

Maaah! The Chaos Goat attacks once again!! Looks really sweet Exo, is he the Tzeentchy Termie of the squad?

A neutral shade of black.
28-07-2006, 00:39
Chaos goats? (http://warhammergoats.ytmnd.com/)

Excellent work as usual, Exo. I wish you'd base these with something nice to the eyes. Oh, and act upon my idea!

28-07-2006, 07:04
I wish you'd base these with something nice to the eyes.

I do not understand, do you mean I should add some eyes to the model (like the possessed) or what? I would like to know :)

@Loon: He is not as such the "tzeentchian-termie" (I will later make a warrior with some bright feathers on his armour for the tzeentchian theme in this squad), but more as an undivided come to life. Some background fluff will follow later as I get to it

28-07-2006, 20:48
Gah! Just took a break from painting my CSM and found this - all my work looks crap now :(

Good job on everything so far! Keep it up!

The Judge
29-07-2006, 09:26
Nice rich red going on there. The horns look good on him.

A neutral shade of black.
29-07-2006, 17:02
I do not understand, do you mean I should add some eyes to the model (like the possessed) or what? I would like to know :)

No, I mean you should base the models with something that's nice to our eyes, like grass. Now, get on with making the four riders of the Apocalyspe who don't really ride, more sorta teleport in and such. :P

29-07-2006, 19:37
@aneutralshade: I feel like a dork now, now it all makes sense :D. Yes, I will make a nice base for him, and I am currently working on it also... the sand is already glued on.

Nice all that you like the model, it is great to get so much positive feedback. Tomorrow I am off to the countryside (swimming in a lake, no running water, being in a sauna every night... it will be great!), so I will be away for awhile. Anyways, I have made some nice progress on the model, who will get some flame motifs on the black shoulder and his right kneepad (and his name "extra-name" changes from Scourge of Sharnigoth to Flame of Sharnigoth, sounds ok to me). Looks nice at the moment, and I might take a WIP shot tomorrow, but I am not sure if my schedule allows it... so, some WIP action tomorrow or in the later half of the week. Have fun in the meantime!

30-07-2006, 05:45
All is great Exo, only one thing bothers me: How do you remember all these names? Do you write them on the bases, or on the roster, or just memorize them?

30-07-2006, 07:33
I managed to find some time for the picture, here he is. In my last post I accidentally called him Flame of Nasthagur, which was wrong (and should be Flame of Sharnigoth), and is now edited. The point behind all these names is that I enjoy creating fluff (and even writing some...), and names are very much required on it. The basic idea is that Daemon-prince Sharnigoth is the ruler of these WB's, but Apostle Nasthagur is trying to get the power from him (in a truly chaotic way). The chosen are loyal to Sharnigoth, and they can be regarded as Daemon-prince's enforcers within the warhost. Anyways some more detailed stuff will follow when I get in on the paper.

I do not give every model a name, only characters, champions, squads and the chosen (which I regard as characters..). Most I remember, but I have them written on the armylist. But, enough of babbling, here is a pic (the flames will get yellow-red-orangey colour on them):

Now I am off to the countryside ->

the dark angel
31-07-2006, 13:34
know thats one awsome termie! love the fist and the helm.

well bye bye! im goin to the countryside next week :D

03-08-2006, 18:03
This thread is the very definition of visual orgasm......
Keep it up MAN!

03-08-2006, 19:17
I am back, it was a fun trip. I also almost finished the sorcerer-termie, only some static grass and varnish needed and he is done (some pics within this weekend, maybe tomorrow or saturday). I have the tournie next week's weekend, which means I should rush 2 more termies and the 3rd oblie until then... + 4 objective-markers. I am not sure if I am able to do it, wish me luck

03-08-2006, 19:28
With your talent exo? You'll easily make all the stuff in time. Glad your back by the way! All these compliments and praise are beggining to suffocate your thread........ :D ;)

04-08-2006, 03:22
Hey Exo, nice for you to be back, wanna check out what i've been doing lately?

Figured it would be nice to switch roles.

06-08-2006, 17:42
Some pictures here for all you nutcases who still follow this thread! I finished (varnishing and a magnet needed) Angra Khai Khamin, the Flame of Sharnigoth, here some pics:

And also almost finished the Still-Unnamed icon-bearer of the army, the personal herald of Daemon-Prince Sharnigoth. He has a banner on his power fist, and the banner itself is from the space marine command squad. The head is very distinct feature, made from a tongue-head from mutation sprue and the shoulder pad of a khorne berzerker (nice skull there, some cutting, and it fits great and makes a chaotic headpiece).

The painting continues. The tournament approaches. Comments and encouragement needed.

06-08-2006, 18:17
great work on the icon bearer, the head is inspired. good luck finishing the last two figs on time, have you started them yet?

06-08-2006, 18:22
Nicely done dude, the Flames look awesome.

and i prefer the term fruit loop :D

06-08-2006, 18:26
Well as always nice stuff mate. Love the banner fits the army style perfect! good luck on the next gits and three words

go go go ;)

06-08-2006, 20:44
Have you tried playing with the Marauder skull pad? It also makes a great faceplate/mask. Less cutting involved too.

I really dig the new banner bearer, and I am glad to see the sorcerer is finished...

07-08-2006, 06:22
Yes I have some 32 marauders for my "Shakra'Goan" -traitors, so I noticed that there are some good shoulder pads too. I may have to think of making a GS mould to get even more of those, great bits :)

08-08-2006, 19:53
Some update from the Eye:

The painting of the chosen is basically done. I still have to drill the barrels of the last one, and make the bases for the 2 of them (+some varnishing, which may go into time after the tournament). The 5th one, still unnamed, has a slight nurgley tone on him, with some pustules. At the moment you just have to imagine him, some pics may come tomorrow if you have been good little children. And oh yes, I converted and undercoated the obliterator, I have 2 days left to paint him which should be enough.. plus of course do the objectives, which should be a short work (2 are already converted).

So, I have been really active here, eagerly waiting to get my force on the battlefield

09-08-2006, 12:47
I made a decision I may or may not regret later: I painted the last chosen, and will finish the objective-markers, but I won't be doing the obliterator. The reason for this is that the armies in the tournament can be anything between 1600 and 2000 points... and in the games, the player with less points get the difference in victory points. At this moment my army stands about at 1760 points, and I wont be taking a bigger army. This is because I got a bit lazy, but also strategically it may be a sound decision to take a more compact force.

Anyways, we will see soon how I fare. And some pics will come today or tomorrow!

10-08-2006, 19:38
Here is the finished (only varnishing needed, and it will be done some other time) 5th Chosen; Dark Crusader Maru the Corrupted:

The shield is from old chaos warriors, the helmet is heavily converted berzerker-helm and flamer-bolter is from cadian flamer + space marine tank storm bolter. I actually like the look, a bit nurgley but not over the top, still fitting WB's and the unit well.

Some comments would be nice :)

Anyways, tomorrow is the tournament, and the army is at healthy 1777 points strong. Wish me luck, some reports will come when the dust settles, and if you happen to come to Ropecon 2006 this weekend, be free to come to say hello to yours truly.

10-08-2006, 19:49
Shame you couldn't get the obliterator done in time, but I guess it's better than you rushing him. Think the shield works well on the nurgle guy, and the pose looks good in the photo. Good luck this weekend!

10-08-2006, 22:06
I like this one, even more then the others i think i can admitt.

11-08-2006, 02:39
this guy is awesome, i like him. Although he could use some pro-active.

Red Skullz
11-08-2006, 05:39
Long time since I`ve replied in this here thread of yours Exo but your work is still top notch! Consider the power fist paint-job looted btw ;)

The only thing I think you need to work on (and I went back several pages to back this up) is your metallics. It looks thick if you know what I mean, it just feels like you could`ve thinned it out a lot more just to get that smooth blend you have on the rest of your minis like the armour.

Anyhoo, that`s details. Overall this is a killer army!

13-08-2006, 19:45
I am back from the tournament, I ended being 44th in almost 100 players I think. Being in the better half and getting into the later rounds was my ambition, and I did it. I played nice games (except against one assault-cannon horde, which was quite boring and I got massacred in 3 turns..) with some nice armies, and it was great. The army worked quite ok in very different situations, even against armoured company :). So, 5 games, 1 win, 1 loss and 3 more or less draws, I am happy . Of course I would have liked to win the best painted army -competition, but did not make it, but I am happy for a friend who won with a nice tzeenchian/slaaneshian CSM army (although it would have been nice if more people would have voted in total). And some people even voted for me, which is always nice! Maybe next time ;)

13-08-2006, 20:59
Well done, at lease you achieved ur aim of the tourny. So are you going to press on with the rest of your Word Bearers?

14-08-2006, 12:54
Yes, the project goes on in this from or the other (that is, LatD allies for my WB's to give some distance to painting power armour), but now after the tournie and the painting-streak before that I will have a bit downtime from the painting. I had 1777 points in the tournie (it was purely coincident, but I thought it was a sign from Grandaddy Nurgle), but the army will eventually get into about 2500 I think.

Anyways, stay tuned, in the near future there will be more stuff painted up

And one more thing, the decision of getting only those 1777pts of stuff to get those "handicap points" from others as most people had full 2000pts paid off. I really hadn't got a chance to beat and massacre them, but I got enough points to get me draws, which kept me in the games.

And also, I did write a small piece of fluff for the army to get 3 more tournament-points. We had to make some objective markers, I did a couple of chests and started to think why on earth my WB's would want to get some chests. Here is the answer

“My Lords, my most holy inquisitorial investigations have found out following disturbing information about the thrice-damned Daemon-prince Sharnigoth of Word Bearers –traitor legion: according to my research this Daemon has used all his knowledge of forbidden arts and daemonology to create artefacts of immense power which may pose a real threat to our beloved Imperium. These so-called ’Dark Chests of Nightmares’ seem to be some sort of stable and sealed, easily transported hexagrammic containers, which the arch-enemy can use to bind infernal daemons and other warp-spawned entities and energies from warp-drifts and daemon-worlds into areas of space where normally the summoning of these abominations would require long and dangerous rituals.

As our fighting forces are drawn to evacuation of Medusa V and tackling the traitor-forces of Ygethmor there, the other forces of the arch-nemesis are gaining momentum on the other parts of the Imperium of Man. My attention has once again been turned to the backwater-planet called Crimson, where the Word Bearer –traitor forces of Sharnigoth has amassed all of his warhosts, one even under the leadership of my most-hated nemesis, Nasthagur the Dark Apostle. The completion of the Daemon-prince’s powerful artefacts and the invasion of this planet cannot be just a coincident, and I will be reporting back to you once I get more information about this new threat. Emperor protects!”
-Lord Inquisitor Jakob Solan, Ordo Malleus-

“My Lords, the situation is grim indeed. I have been studying the potentials of these ‘Dark Chests’ and they are truly terrifying: even a single one of them harbours power enough to unleash a dangerous daemon-incursion of the infernal warp-spawn, but when their powers are combined they become weapons of immense potency. What I fear is that Sharnigoth is trying to use them to turn the planet Crimson into a daemon-world under his command! There is hope still, as the creation of these artefacts did not come cheap for the Daemon-prince: the foul monster had to use a huge amount of his own strength to channel the power of the warp into the containers, which means he is now much lesser threat to us personally than he has used to be. It is also interesting that recent activities of Nasthagur seem to be to fulfil his own goals, even hiring mercenary warbands to attack and thus delay the other Word Bearer –forces from getting the chests. Foul Sharnigoth on the other hand also appears to realize this, as his own thrice-damned chosen are sent to enforce his will amongst Nasthagur’s warhost to suffocate the potential rebellion before it really starts. I hope that this animosity within the ranks of our Enemies will escalate into an outright conflict and war, and I will send my agents to cause more disruption into the uneasy alliance of the two chaos leaders, until we can muster enough forces to wipe them out for good. May the Emperor shine his grace upon us!”
-Lord Inquisitor Jakob Solan, Ordo Malleus-

14-08-2006, 16:26
Well done on meeting your goals for the tournament. Hope to see some more of your work soon, some more LatD could be interesting, the first one was excellent

18-08-2006, 15:47
You thought I was gone, but I came back when you least expected it, and I do not want my pretty little thread to die either now do I (and let DeadleyHeadley take all the fuss with his gargantuous log and supercool models )? No, seriously, I have painted some models, this time it is 2 more Shakra'Goan traitors (I am thinking of calling them Shakra'Goan Warthirsters...). One of them is finished (base needed) and the other is almost done. Then I will have a proud collection of 3 traitors, only 2 more needed for a striking unit of 40pts of pure murder.

Thank god those models are relatively fast to paint, as I will make about 30 of them..

Some pics will follow maybe even today, but at least tomorrow. Stay tuned I tell you.

18-08-2006, 15:54
Go Exo!

And I really did think this thread was scarily quiet: how did you know? :D

19-08-2006, 06:46
Here is a pic of the first 3 traitors. The one on the right is still more WIP than the two others, but I hope to get all them fully done during this weekend. I try to keep them relatively basic to let me finish them all sooner than later, but still trying to get them look nice and fit the WB's well. The left one has some crude warpaint on his helmet, like the eyes etc.

Comments are most welcome!

19-08-2006, 11:42
Those 'Warthirsters' (used it as i liked that term) are looking damn nice Exo.

Any plans on how the rest of the unit will be armed? Other the more combat weapons naturally. Any plans for Icons or special/heavy weapons? Personally I wouldnt mind seeing some meltagunners... they just fit sorta. Or even a champion with an eviscerator (power fist).

Keep up the good work.

19-08-2006, 13:56
There will be a champion (chaos marine that is) with a fist, plus a unit leader (he will get a cool title) who will also get a fist if the rules allow it... haven't yet checked.

I think the unit also gets a flamer, plus of course an icon too. And it will be 15+1 strong, and infiltrate.. that should fear even the toughest opponents at least a bit

19-08-2006, 15:10
Are the blue arrows tattoes or warpaint?

19-08-2006, 18:34
They were meant to be tattoos, but whatever you see them best :)

Rabid Bunny 666
19-08-2006, 18:40
I'm not too keen on the Armour, though the skin is cool.

edit: It turns out the armour i didn't like is on the WIP one :D

20-08-2006, 08:40
exo: depending on if they are warpaint or tattoos it makes a difference. If they are warpaint it's not to bad. If they are tattoos, water down some of the flesh colour you used for the skin and wash the blue with it, the wash should blur the edges making it look like a tattoo.

21-08-2006, 08:49
I finished the first three models from the dreaded Shakra'Goan traitor-forces, aka. the Warthirsters. I followed bloodwraith's advice, and gave the tattoos a light wash of dwarf flesh. I think they look a bit better now, so thanks for the help  Anyways, here is a pic:

Today I will be playing with a LatD army, using my Cadians as traitors for WB's allies... I will test a fully infiltrating army, and see how badly I take beating with that ;)

And oh yeah, some comments on the models would be nice.

21-08-2006, 11:17
The traitors look good, a nice unifying paint job on them, but with enough options to make them look a little 'rag-tag'. Have you thought about incorporating your green eye theme into them, either as a brand or a mark of allegiance, to tie them in with the greater mass of the army?

21-08-2006, 11:33
That is a nice idea. Maybe their unit-leader could be blessed with some green bloated eyes, or use them in the design of their icons?

I do not know if I have said this before, but these LatD will make a full army of their own... I have spare chimera, which might be converted into a hellhound, a couple of russes could be nice, also some spawn and big muties, plus lots of normal mutants and traitors. Models-wise, this army will propably end up being much larger than their "parent-force" of WB's.

21-08-2006, 12:46

I plan on doing the exact same with my Iron Warriors.
I love the idea of Imperial forces turning traitor to serve under the legions of the gods.

21-08-2006, 12:49
looking good, exo! just a guesstimate request, how much more of the force do you have to buy/paint etc?

PS may have been siad before, but what colors are you using? GW or another make?

21-08-2006, 15:18
Liking these a lot. The realistic skin tone works well, yet they still have the destinctive style of your WBs

21-08-2006, 17:20
Thanks everyone for the feedback, I am honoured to hear this many kind words. Some answers: I use GW paints, never painted with anything else. I still have some oldies on the paint-range (the ones that are tall with white lid on most of them... I have some metal colours, washes, and glazes), but most are current set. I have lots of spare bits and models to build, and I wont be buying much in the near future: I still have some 20+ marines, 6 bloodletters, 3+ tanks, maybe even some bikes, that 3rd oblie, zombies + cadians + marauders to make traitors/mutants... the list goes on, and so does the long battle to finish them, one by one

23-08-2006, 18:35
I have some news: I got me a job, that starts on next monday. During this weekend I will be painting a lot (my fiancée is working then, and I have nothing else to do), but when the work begins I will be painting less. But even that does not mean this project would stop, just slow down a bit.

So stay tuned!

ps. I will post some pics maybe tomorrow, I have 3 almost-converted traitors (flamer, icon and agitator, all need some GS'ing), and will start to convert a possessed predator.

24-08-2006, 12:37
Here is a WIP shot of the next 3 traitors. The leader has a fist made from terminator powerfist and a big sword with a lenghtened handle (as well as a ponytail, which does not show in this pic), the flamer is cadian -one (marauder hands fitted surprisingly well), and the icon is a banner from marauders. Here is a piccie:

I hope you like them, some comments would be nice!

24-08-2006, 12:58
Nice work, just one thing though - do you think some sort of power pack for the leader's fist would be in order, since it isn't paet ot a power armour suit?

24-08-2006, 13:06
The one horn on the flamer operator's helmet looks quite good.
I second Endemion's idea on adding a powerpack, all you need is a chainsword motor and guitar wire.

24-08-2006, 13:17
Nice work, just one thing though - do you think some sort of power pack for the leader's fist would be in order, since it isn't paet ot a power armour suit?

Maybe he's just got a really big hand?:p

Looking good Exo: although maybe that model should have a pack, cos he's also got the microphone headset

24-08-2006, 13:27
Thanks for the ideas. I will make a powerpack of somesort which will be attached to the fist.

24-08-2006, 13:32
I'd suggest making the pack from plasma cannon power cells. Just stick one to his back and connect with cables, should look primitive enough.

BTW, still loving your conversions. Very individualistic!

24-08-2006, 23:11
Looking good exo, keep em coming.

26-08-2006, 10:33
I added a powercable into the power fist of the agitator (goes to his armour, there is a protected power pack beneath his shoulder pad), and also converted a mutant for my LatD:s. My converting and models are now something from here and something from there, as I will now try to enjoy as my WB's are in such a good shape. No rushing at the moment

"what did you SAY!"

NIce work on the Traitors, the flamer is purdy.

26-08-2006, 11:30
Loving that zombie/traitors face, the concept is being stored for possible later use ;)
Though Im not sure if he fits in with the other guys so far...

27-08-2006, 04:41
Those coversions are really great, I love working with GS mutations myself.

27-08-2006, 14:08
Ahh, my final paintings before starting at the work tomorrow.. as I said, I will be painting less from this day on onwards. Anyways, here is a WIP shot of the 2 more traitors, and a finished pic of the first mutant. He was lots of fun to paint, although the varnishing ended up a bit too shiney. The mutants are meant to be ghoulish guardsmen, who have been corrupted by chaos after they were abandoned to the battlefield. Remember folks that cannibalism is bad. But, I may have to do something about the varnish some day.

Comments would be nice

27-08-2006, 14:11
Very nice but of shaving off those cadian coat tails off the zombie...thing. But his legs do appear to be going one way whilst his upper half want to go in another :p

28-08-2006, 23:09
I know you aren't as interested in the rules side of things, but in Codex: Eye of Terror the LaTD traitor squads can only infiltrate if they are not accompanied by a Chaos Marine Champion. That includes if the marine himself can infiltrate if I remeber the Faq correctly. In addition, the Agitator can take a Power Fist, but that will max out his wargear.

I love the Warthirster's and look forward to seeing more. Perhaps your mutants can incorporate that famous Exo green?

29-08-2006, 17:06
Hmm, I thought that the squads CAN infiltrate with a champion if the champion buys the infiltrating skill for himself.

... just checked it, seems that I was wrong! Thanks for pointing that out Easy E, as I will try to make a "legal" (although themed) army. Damn!! And yeas, some green could be included to mutants, lets see what I can think...

Rabid Bunny 666
30-08-2006, 22:09
Give the Marine Infiltrate, then infiltrate him next to the squad, problem solved!

30-08-2006, 22:59
Except the Aspiring Champion as an HQ choice MUST be attached to a squad.

01-09-2006, 02:03
Are you using these as alpha legion cultists?

Good job BTW

01-09-2006, 16:00
No, they are a sister-army of Lost and the damned for my Word Bearers. But, that is not a bad idea and in some games I could be trying those out.

The first week at the work is behind, and I think that I will be trying to convert some models in the train-trips I am making to get to the work, have to try out when I get more used to this work-life

Except the Aspiring Champion as an HQ choice MUST be attached to a squad.

Fair doos, my bad.

03-09-2006, 00:10
Aah we need updates!!!

05-09-2006, 18:39
uuuh, that was the post number 666. Nice.

Some minor update, today I painted for the first time in over a week.. and it was really much fun. I did some work on the agitator, which I hope to finish maybe during this week... but I am not sure. Anyways, some WIP action will come maybe tomorrow or thursday. Which is by the way my birthday!

When Black Roses Bloom
06-09-2006, 05:24
Exo, do you like Angra? ;P

08-09-2006, 17:50
Angra who?

Anyways, I managed to paint today 2 more traitors to finish, only basing left to do. Here is a crappy picture of them. The agitator has a looted powerfist, with a Ultramarine -sign painted over with a chaos star.

I will finish the bases quite soon and then take a better pic.

Brush your teeth
08-09-2006, 18:12
looking good! the handle on the sword looks a bit plain though, otherwise keep up the good work

09-09-2006, 14:08
Sweet, how many do you plan on making? and can we get a group shot?
Especially the octathingy on the powerfist

09-09-2006, 19:19
i love the new models, and enjoy the looted fist :P only thing is if he had blood of the power fist would it not be on his knuckles instead of the first joint?

10-09-2006, 06:55
I managed to finish the 2 traitors yesterday noon, but when I was about to post some pics we lost electricity because the storm broke some machinery. Being 8 hours without tv, computer and lights can be really boring, but thankfully now they work.

Here is a pic of the first 5 Shakra'Goan Warthirsters, hope you like them (still magnets and varnishing to do).

And here is a detail shot of the bloodied fist. I tried to make it look that the fist has been used to crush a head (or other body part) and the blood is very much on the inside part of the hand.

I will be making this squad 15 models strong, then propably some mutants to give me the compulsory troops, then some supporting units and more traitors. Should be fun

10-09-2006, 09:17
Looking great Exo, I cant wait to see the first full unit of 15 done. Going to add a heavy weapon or icon bearer to the unit?

10-09-2006, 18:39
Heavy weapon, no as these are going to advance into close combat, but the icon is currently on the painting table.

10-09-2006, 20:16
Cool Traitors, very very nice. Even though they seem quite "bright" as models, they look awesome still. Keep up the good work.

Easy E
11-09-2006, 23:53
Nice bitz bashing.

The eyes on the one traitors helmet reminds me of an ancient Greek panopoly.

When Black Roses Bloom
12-09-2006, 08:56
Angra, the power-heavymetal group \m/

Because I saw the base of that guy witht he Ram Horns that had an "Angra" name inscribed in his base. Anyways, overall the paintjob and the modeling thingies are just perfect. You don't over load your figures with more colour or stuff than the ones needed. If I had the time and the space (I moved recently and don't have space yet to paint neither the time - new job - no money yet). Keep up the dark faith brother!!!

12-09-2006, 12:11
In fact the model has "Angra" in his chest-armour, not in his base, but anyways that is purely coincident , I have never heard of that band. I just took the word Anger and started to think how it could be transformed into a name fitting for a chaos marine.

Thanks again all for your feedback. Today I will be painting a bit of an icon for the traitors. Slowly I will make the squad 15 strong...

... must resist the temptation to start a tau-force after playing DoW: dark crusade -demo.

@KayvaanShrike: I tend to make the models very bright and high-contrast, it is my style. I know that some people prefer more grim and realistic colours, but somehow I like more when the colours are strong :)

When Black Roses Bloom
13-09-2006, 09:18
I've read the whole thread again (yeah all the 68 pages) and I have to say two things:

1st, all people out there who want to check the whole project, please read the whole thread from the begining. It's a whole different experience to see the whole project once again in fast forward.

2nd, before asking for posting "a few pics of the whole army" check the thread again. There are at least three (3) pics of the whole army.

Overall, great job once again. Keep on the Dark Faith.

16-09-2006, 14:21
@When Black Roses Bloom: that is one big task you have achieved, reading the whole thread through. I think I will have to do that some day, just to live this almost-a-year once again, as it has been the best year I have ever had on the painting-front. Also, thanks for the kind words.

As a reward for that, here is a WIP shot of the icon. Still some work to do, but not that much. The shoulder pad is from a marine, I will make it a Black Legion pad that was looted by these guys.

Some comments would be nice

16-09-2006, 15:54
Like him so far, is there a fluff reason for the black legion pad, or is it just for the colour scheme?

It's a shame you don't get so much painting time these days, but we all have to work

16-09-2006, 16:08
No fluff reason, I just painted it that way. I add whatever comes to my sick little mind :)

16-09-2006, 18:26
It might be neat to compile all of the photos from start to finish on each set of models in a slide show...

21-09-2006, 17:21
I have once again done some stuff. First, here is an icon-bearer, only base left to do. This is a crappy pic, but I will take a better one once the model is finished.

And I have to confess, that I have started a new project. This time, it is the tyranids, and here is a test scheme. The grey highlights will be done with white, but the overall effect is quite nice, although the lighting turned the purple a bit different tone than in real world. Better pics will come later.

And yes, the tyranid progress will continue within this thread, as I do not want to start a new one (too many nice memories within this thread, although the name will be a bit misleading).

Comments on both models would be most welcome.

21-09-2006, 19:23
Good painting, though I personally never did like the purple/black combination myself, but that's just my preference. :o

You will still be doing more chaos in the thread though right?

21-09-2006, 20:12
yeah, i really like the chaos because its the only team where a bad GS job looks great. Tyranids, IMHO, are less customizable.

21-09-2006, 20:35
I'd agree with that whole heartedly. Although Tyranids have so many mutations, they really are less customizable than Chaos (outside of the sheer amounts of plastic arms i mean).

22-09-2006, 05:57
Yes I try to keep this thread mostly chaos, but as I have been doing them almost a full year, some other projects can keep me going on painting without losing the inspiration.

I know that chaos provides more possibilities conversion-wise, but did you UnRiggable mean that my GS abilities are that bad? I hope not, as I try my best :(

Anyways, I will try to finish the first 15 traitors (so I can play combat patrols with WB-allies for LatD) within relatively short amount of time, although as working takes so much time there is still lots to do. While doing them, I try to speed-up also the first 16 termagants, and maybe a zoanthrope at the same time to get the niddies going.

The first finished termagant might be ready this weekend, I hope.

27-09-2006, 07:49
Here is a pic of the finished icon-bearer of the traitor-squad, varnished and all. Hope you like him.

What do you think?

Tomorrow you get a pic of the first finished termagant. Stay tuned. And of yeah, I started to paint the 3rd oblie, wuhuu!

28-09-2006, 07:52
Ooh, the amount of comments is stunning me. Anyways, here is a pic of the first finished termagant. I had to adjust the colours a bit on the photoshop, as my camera seems to be unable to get the purple into proper tone.

Hope you like him.

And oh yes, the shine on the blacks are on purpose done with gloss varnish. Other parts are varnished with matt.

Reign in Blood
28-09-2006, 09:32
Since no one else seems to be praising your works I guess I will step in. Top rate mate, bloody good job. A whole year of painting...I wish I could get that many models to paint lol. I really like your style of painting. It is kinda realistic but it is as if you don't try too hard to get it absolutely correct...kinda like a cartoon...reminds me of XIII...I like cell shading...ok that was off topic.

28-09-2006, 21:39
Hehe no thats not what I meant, I'm saying you (I'm speaking indirectly, so 'one' also works) can be a beginner at GSing (like me, hehehe) and still do a pretty decent jo in the conversion process. Your GS skills are great, not bashing anybody. But PLEEEEEZ don't switch completely to tyranids...

Easy E
28-09-2006, 22:45
How is are your mutants going. I remember seeing the GSed and converted model, but not the end result. You implied I would get to see your trademark green on those mutants. I'm pining for it. Don't make me beg.... that's just demeaning.

Edit: You traitor icon bearer looks good. I like how the catachisms and canticles from the Word Bearer's are also present on the Warthirsters. It helps tie them together.

Your Nid looks cool, and the purple/black scheme is very Exo. The highlights really stand out on the chitin and make the model a nice piece of eye candy.

29-09-2006, 06:14
@Easy E: The first mutant is ready, but lacks the green. I think no one will notice it, when I get all 30 done :D. Not my best work, but should be fine when I get his friends done.

I decided to let the mutants go on the halt, while I try to get the traitors finished first (to get one legal squad for combat patrol LatD), and also do some other stuff (like the niddies). But they will return, and then I might also redo some green for that first mutant.

And oh yeah, I have 2 more converted traitors done, they only need the painting. Some pics will follow during this weekend. And also the 3rd oblie is progressing, although slowly. Pics of him too will come soonish.

@Unriggable: dont worry, chaos project continues, the nids only give some change to all these chaosguys.

02-10-2006, 17:30
Looking good Exo, so will the nids be in this thread or will you eventually split?

02-10-2006, 18:21
I say link this thread to the nids thread

Youve been Word Bearing for about a year so I'm not surprised you want to move on

07-10-2006, 13:24
As you might already know, the nids do not anymore infest this thread, they have their own project log. So, on with the WB's and their traitor allies.

Just to show that I have done some work on the WB's, here is a WIP shot of the 3rd oblie. Only some first paint coats on, but he will eventually be finished. Here is a pic:

And some traitor-action, a picture of 2 more of them. I kinda like the 2-handed chain-halberd -type of weapon, and his pointed helmet. Also, the musician is there just for the looks, drumming as they charge the loyalist forces

07-10-2006, 13:33
Good to see the WBs getting some attention again. Is that a standard head the obliterator has, it's a little hard to tell at this early stage. Like the subtle conversions on the traitors, and think the musician fits in well, but would a slung weapon on his back or belt be an idea?

07-10-2006, 13:37
The head on the obli is one of the plastic ones from mutation sprue (bald, nurglesque looking), which has been "blended" into the daemonic flesh by GS.

That is a good idea to give a musician a weapon, he will either get a pistol or a closecombat weapon somewhere on him.

07-10-2006, 13:46
Oh right, is that the head with the small horn/eye on the forehead?

07-10-2006, 14:18
thats right :)

07-10-2006, 16:35
The guy with the two-handed chainsword-on-a-stick looks like one of the Jedi Council! Hehehehe.....

Seriously though, some nice stuff so far mate, really liking it!

13-10-2006, 21:47
wow, just thought i would say... wow.

so much food for thought for my budding word bearers force.

26-10-2006, 22:49
Awesome modeling and painting!

01-11-2006, 11:20
It has been over a year when I started this log, and it is I think the oldest of the projects in here that still runs at least in some state (although I have to admit Deadley's is far larger and involves more work, kudos there!).

So, happy late birthday to the thread! It has seen me finishing by thesis, graduating from school, moving to a new home and getting a job. Kinda like a partner in life.

I am gonna finish the oblie when I get some of that tyraniddy-nonsense done to keep my brain from too much corrupted by chaos powers, but there still is lots of WB's and LatD to do. Hopefully they are done in not-so-distant future.

Ps. I am becoming tired old man.

01-11-2006, 13:57
So, happy late birthday to the thread!

Happy Birthday to the thread *sings and looks for a party-smiley*

01-11-2006, 16:21
Congrats on a productive year, good to know the WBs haven't been forgotten. Good luck finding the time to continue them....

25-11-2006, 08:35
After a too long time away from WB's due some tyrannic nonsense, I am back again on this one. Yesterday I did some major work on the 3rd oblie, and later today you should get a WIP shot of him. I hope to finish the model in the coming week.

So stay tuned and lets hope I will have some time to be focused on these bad boys for some time..

And oh yeah, I might even convert a big squad of raptors to add some fast combat power to the army. The question is, how many and which special weapons I should take? I am thinking of a flamer and maybe 2 meltas, and also a furious charge -skill to make them a truly fighty unit.

And one more thing, i got me the model of Abaddon from a swap, and he should be converted into the 6th chosen (some more reaper autocannon -action).

25-11-2006, 09:05
Good to see you back and enthusiastic. Think you're spot on with the raptor's weapons, plasma can be saved for a less close range unit. Looking forward to some pics later

25-11-2006, 10:23
It's good to see that this thread is back. Can't wait to see that Abbadon conversion.

25-11-2006, 11:31
I concur, good to see the return of the Wordbearer thread!

And a belated question if I may, what colours did you use for the daubed chaos star on the Traitor Icon-bearer's banner?

Oh, (not to try and hijack you thread or anything) but have a look at my Cultists (ruleswise they're mutants without upgrades, I want my traitors to be heretic guard):

I thought they might interest you, as I find our ideas on our armies and style to be quite similar (Large squishy mass of rabble, with a hard, bitter centre of Word Bearers. :D )

Bye, Modhail

25-11-2006, 12:35
i have been a silent lurker since the beginning but you have inspired me cowboy, not to do wordbearers but to do a renegade army of my own. Thankyou for the inspiration and keep up the fantastic work. You are a credit to this hobby and your thread is an inspiration to more then just me :)

25-11-2006, 17:23
Oh my.. I hoped to get some replies to my post, but nothing special before the picture. Thanks for showing me why I am doing this thing, all your kind words will help me continue this project! Hearing that I have been inspiration for your armies is of course a great honour.

Anyways, here is the obliterator

The reds are almost done (except the bit on the chest, which might end up black..), the skin is taking shape with only last tidying and highlights needed, and then there are the metals, purple tubing and the finishing of the blacks. Yes, still lots to do, but I sure hope to get him finished in a week.

@modhail: no need to worry about "hi-jacking", I am only happy to see all other WB -players showing their stuff too in here . Those are some nice models, I really like the tattoos/warpaint/scriptures on the skin, and some of the bits might in turn be inspiration for me as I progress with the LatD -sidearmy of my WB's.

And one more thing, I started to convert Abaddon into the chosen, some pics will come some day.

dave is the best
25-11-2006, 17:39
Verry cool.

The Keeper of Secrets
25-11-2006, 21:00
YAY, Exocowboy's WB!! Love that oblit, very obliteratoryish (it's a word).

show us more!

26-11-2006, 08:38
new pics!! Like the way you've blended the head in. And I see even WBs are going for the trend of more assault cannon ;)
Looking forward to seeing how abbadon fits in with the other chosen

29-11-2006, 10:44
I hoped to get the oblie finished today, but got carried away playing Dark Crusade. But I did progress, and only the last details and tidying up left to do, + the base. Here is a current WIP shot:

I feared that the head would look silly, but I think it turned out ok. Comments are most welcome

29-11-2006, 11:02
As always great stuff and the little green eyes are the best part. I see you borrowed some of that purple from your Tyranids...

29-11-2006, 11:09
As always great stuff and the little green eyes are the best part. I see you borrowed some of that purple from your Tyranids...

In fact, many of my WB's have had that purple before my niddies got it. And my dark eldar too.. I just like purple, and it has been part of schemes for long. So I think my nids borrowed that purple from my other models

29-11-2006, 11:18
I have yet to reply to this thread – and that says a lot considering how long it has been going on. :) I now from experience how hard it is to keep a project running som I’m truly impressed by you sticking to it.

This is truly inspirational stuff! I love how you’ve given them a unique look with the use of purple and those green eyes. It makes them “pop” on the table top I’m sure. The eyes in particular is a favourite of mine.

Also all the small (and sometimes more involved) modification that you’ve done really does the trick for me.

The oblit is turning out great. I like how you've incorporated that plastic head to his "living flesh".

So kept it up. Would I be possible to see some army shots of your current status?

Again, great work!

13-12-2006, 10:21
Thanks again for all the kind words. The christmas is coming, but the house is now cleaned so I managed to do some painting. The oblie is finished, minus the base and varnishing, but I should get him done in this week. Some pics will come after that. Also, the 6th terminator has been almost converted and GS'd, so he will be the next victim on the painting front.

And I will take some army-shots some day, when the army progresses a bit more.

Stay tuned!

13-12-2006, 21:51
Good to hear you've found some painting time. Will we be seeing a WIP of the terminator?

17-12-2006, 15:17
I will see the wip shot of termie within a few days. But I hope this helps: I managed to finish the 3rd oblie that has been waiting for it for the last 4+ months :)

Also, I started to paint 2 more traitors, they are thankfully relatively fast to do. Some WIP shots will come later.

Anyways, here is the oblie:

Comments are of course most welcome. A group shot will also come when there is a bit more time to get good pics .

18-12-2006, 11:31
Like all the little trademark exo eyes on him. Keep em coming

29-12-2006, 05:28
Merry christmas everyone, I have a big update this time. Although the whole project is losing momentum (both from me and from your comments, which I do understand as there is not much new coming up. Anyways, now I have lots of pics to give to you.

First, here are first 3 converted marines for the next squad:

Then, finally, the 6th chosen. Converted from Abaddon, with a reaper & chainfist, some greenstuffing and a tentacle. He is ment to be a possessed terminator, to give tribute to the start of this project.

Then, some painting-in-progress -action, with 2 more Shak'ra Goan Warthirsters, now with a drum and a chain-glaive.

And finally, a looted predator that is being corrupted by yours truly, the converting is still underway (also, will get heavy bolter sponsons).

Hope you liked them, and as always, comments are most welcome.

29-12-2006, 05:50

your tempting me to pull apart my UM and turn em all into some possesed marines! These are ******* awesome.

Keep up the hard work and i can't wait for some more pics.

29-12-2006, 08:56
Like the lascannon conversion. To me it looks like they are shooting 1 at the time with a huge kickback. (this is probably not understandable so let me draw it)

==========> start position

=====> this one just fired

========> still going back into position
=====> just fired

==========> stop firing again

That 6th chosen also looks very promising.

29-12-2006, 09:35
Hey, somebody's been busy! Really like the reaper autocannon conversion. Let's see some paint on this little lot - Keep em coming

29-12-2006, 11:03
awesome predator, cant wait to see it painted

29-12-2006, 12:37
Awesome reaper, the chainsword actually looks like it could be useful.

01-01-2007, 20:49
Really nicely done Exo. The chosen is looking good.

02-01-2007, 10:53
I have progressed a lot with the chosen, he should be done maybe in this week. Some WIP -shots will come today or tomorrow, so stay tuned

02-01-2007, 17:23
And as promised, here is a WIP shot of the chosen. Hope you like him. I have to say I am quite proud of how the helmet turned from plastic loyalist-termie into a blob-eyed tentacly-faced monster. Reminds me even more of the possessed, as this possessed chosen-terminator should :)

Captain Ardias
02-01-2007, 18:05
Love it, amazing work there exo.

02-01-2007, 18:07
Sweet! I like the big glowey green cyclops eye.

02-01-2007, 19:05
==========> start position

=====> this one just fired

========> still going back into position
=====> just fired

==========> stop firing again

That's exactly what I thought too ;)

03-01-2007, 08:21
Looks great, but then again: we're pretty muched used to the quality of your models^^

03-01-2007, 13:58
Love the chosen terminator. Definitely one of my favorite Exo-Bearers.

04-01-2007, 14:52
Looking good. I'd be interested to see him alongside some of the other termis as a comparison

06-01-2007, 11:39
You will see some more pics of him when I get him done, and then ofcourse a group-shot of the chosen.

But, I have been doing some GS-work. A cookie for the person who knows what this model will be!

Lots of tidying needed etc, but it is shaping up nicely. My pretty one..

Captain Ardias
06-01-2007, 12:37
My guess is either a Spawn or a lord/liutenant/daemon prince with daemonic speed. Looks good though, exo.

06-01-2007, 14:58
Flamer o' Tzeentch-looks sweet man. I heard those things are a pain to paint

06-01-2007, 15:22
Hm, a Dreadnought?

06-01-2007, 17:24
I would say spawn or daemonvessel? Like it so far

06-01-2007, 19:38
as always exo, keep up the good work. Always a fan of yours and when I'm down for inspiration, I look at your blogs.

07-01-2007, 14:20
I have done some work on the chosen, here is a current state of the model. Still needs a lot of work, but he is shaping up nicely.

08-01-2007, 14:46
But, I have been doing some GS-work. A cookie for the person who knows what this model will be!

Lord of Change?

The terminator chosen is looking great, always cool to see more ExoBearers.

- Salvage

13-01-2007, 17:42
I managed to finish the termie, tomorrow you will see the picture of him. Also, I have done a bit more converting of "the mystery model", and you will know what that model will be tomorrow. So, stay tuned.

13-01-2007, 20:45
We're staying tuned, sir.
