This is a beautiful army Van, i've seen some of your older pictures and its simply jaw dropping. Do you have any larger pictures? I'd like to take a good look at your sentinels.

I remember your work from Work in Progress, loved them then and love them now! I don't remember seeing the bottom right flyer though? Is that a home-brew Thunderbolt/Lightening?

Am I right to assume that they are 40k?
Cause this would be a great collection then. Showing a lot of dedication towards the hobby.

Your English is excellent, frankly it's better than some people I know from English speaking countries!

Your conversions are excellent, I especially like the second Heavy Sentinel with Plasma Cannon as well as the Taipan Pattern Leman Russ. Keep up the good work:)

VanSan,
Thank you for gracing us with your IG. I have seen your army on another forum but it was not in english so I could only look and drool. You need to show everybody your full shot of the army plus the attachments like the Grey Knights and all. Please keep up the great work and I will speak for the masses that we can't wait to see what is next.

And the first flyer - is that scratchbuilt?

Awesome, thanks for the close ups, and i will be greatly looking forwards to seeing your infantry if your vehicles are this good. Anyway a few questions to get the mind going.

What parts did you use to build the first heavy sentinel? Possibly an outline of what you did as well if its not to much trouble.

What do you use it as in game? A normal sentinel, or do you have additional rules for it?

Again, awesome work.

24-06-2008, 13:09
I am in awe!! Every single tank looks awesome and you can see you spend a lot of time on all the little details! It's those details that make each tank special, while they are all still very much part of a force! Really nice! I am a bit jealous! :)

VanSan
24-06-2008, 13:11
Ok, some details to the Models:

Smilodon:
Based on an 1:48 Hind

Kaiman
Based on an 1:48 Mirage

Pitbull (heavy Sentinel 1):
Based on normal Sentinel.
Unfortunatelly i don't remember from which modell the cockpit is. The plate over the arms is a part from the chimera kit. I don`t know if its still in the box, because its from an old one. I think the round thing on top of the plate is from an 1:48 Apache kit :) )
A lot of small parts from 1:72 tank kits
The leg armour is the coping from a carriage from some 1:48 jet fighter

Heavy Sentinel 2
Based on normal Sentinel
Cockpit is the turret of a Leman Russ
Jump Pack: Search lights from Leman Russ kit
Leg Armour: Armour from the Weapon platforms an from Leman Russ weapon

Hope this helps a little. In the next time i will post the rules.

The plate over the arms is a part from the chimera kit. I don`t know if its still in the box, because its from an old one.

Yep, it is. It is a back part of the Basilisk. The cockpit looks scratchbuilt, with a part of the old Leman Russ's hatch which most people don't use anymore since the one in the accessory sprue looks different (I like the old one better, but to each his own).

I had already seen most of these on GWFW (or Tabletopwelt?), but they impress me over and over again. You should include your mini-diorama with the Genestealer.

Thanks for the scale shot of the Smilodon, looks like the 1:48 Hind is too small to be a valkyrie source model, gonna have to go 1:35 instead.

VanSan
30-06-2008, 17:48
hmm perhaps the pictures shows this not very well but i think the Smilodon is even a bit larger then the FW Valkyrie, although the smilodon not so broad.
I think 1:48 is perfect because the normal GW Cadianer fits perfect in the cockpit.

I;m not sure if I've posted on this before, but even if I have I';ll say it again; this is a truly stunning army; imaginative in it's conversions, beautifully executed in painting, characterful, and all done on a huge scale. I am literally blown away.

The way that you've managed to turn an f15 fighter into something that looks credible as a new FW release is just ridiculous :p

I'll definately be following this :)

do you have any suggestions for the main weapon?

I just remember an Austrian guy with an insane army, and this looks like something he'd do :D

do you have any suggestions for the main weapon?

Sounds good so far, think the main weapon should be something like:

Range 48", S-D, AP-1, Heavy 1, Destroyer

and to represent there being two on the aircraft make it Twin-Linked.

Simple enough not to require loads of rules but still provide some punch and be unique?

Thing is it'll have to be around 400pts as a rough guess.

VanSan
25-07-2008, 21:38
sounds good! Perhaps a higher range (72"), altough i like the idea with 48" because of less energy a flyer has in comparison to a tank for example a shadowsword. Thanks for your suggestions!

It is based upon an old WD issue where a picture of the same vehicle (made by Mike McVey IIRC) was included for a game of Necromunda, right?

I remember one of the those sentinels from last years (?) Golden Angel painting comp (and voted for it) - I just love your style. In this world of hyper-realism it's great to see some original (and more importantly) mind blowing style.

Not sure if you stated it somewhere, but do you own anything besides Guard (not counting that one Stealer on the tankcannon ;D)?
And how about Fantasy? An army done in this style would be awesome, I guess.
