So my gaming group are thinking of doing a massive battle (not apoc), using 4th edition rules, and possibly it will be the last time we ever use them.

I just wondered; is anyone else giving 4th edition a funeral send-off of some sort?

Last Sunday our group said goodbye to 4th edition with 2 5000pt Apocalypse games. We had a great day, with lots of fizzy pop and nibbles!
We are now working on revisions to our current lists and taking the opportunity to start new armies ready for our 'welcome to 5th' weekend at the end of July!

Well the penultimate game of a campaign I've been gamesmastering was fought with 4.5th ed rules (used used the TLOS and unit selection rules) to be honest I'm not sorry to see it go. Always thought the rules were a bit .. well rushed ... I'm much more excited about 5th ed that I ever was with 4th. I'll miss Kill team and Combat Patrol two of the best things that were formalised in 40K with 4th ed.

40K is dead ... long live 40K

I'm planning a 2v2 5000pt game (probably Apoc) at the end of July to send off 4th ed. I'd have arranged it for this weekend but we already have a small league going on with more people involved than would be practical for an Apoc game, so the end of July is the next club session that's long enough to get a full game in.

funny, ever since the preview book arrived at my store we just all rushed to learning the new rules, I like them so much I forgot about doing any type of send off for 4th edition.

Yeah, I've purchased some fireworks with the intention of using them to give the big grey book a viking funeral in turkey creek. (Appropriate, since it gets so many chemicals and other effluent dumped in it that the entire area resembles the fringes of a hive city.):skull::skull::skull:

Actually my local gaming store is formalizing a send off of amazing magnitude for 4th ed. We're doing a 40,000 point apoc game for the weekend of the 5th ed release. We're calling it 40k at 40k. We're really going to go out with a bang. Even making up shirts for it.

My club is going to finish its current on going campaign under 4th and then jump into 5th straight away afterwards though it may be a few months till we do.

My group is having a 20,000 point per side game in late July to send off 4th. We're gonna take a weekend and live it up while tearing each other apart.

Tell me why you can't house rule combat patrol and kill team using 5th edition? Most of it is building your army / team.
