Dear all...

Diz 'ere is Da Inickwitus and distingwished Warboss Waaghly Davidson speakin, now youz lizzen up you! Youz boyz are gonna follow me cause I'm da biggest 'ere. We'z gonna stomp em! We're gonna krak 'em! We're gonna burn 'em all so da galaxy knows how big and bad I iz! Youz boyz go out 'dere and tell de udder boyz who I iz so dey'd be joinin' up on da waaagh!

First and foremost to you all... Thank you for looking in on my blog. I've been haunting the background of Warseer for some time now, and have taken real interest in some of the many blogs on here. Indeed... i've spent many afternoons at work when i should have been working looking at Deadly's latest updates, Hortworths latest ad mec creation, and marveling over various peoples scratch builds and paint schemes.

For the last few months i've been finishing off my last project, an Adeptus Arbite army of around 4000 points, and at some stage i think ill probably through in some piccies of them, but that will be for the future. Right now i'm going to concentrate on my new project... orks.

They were one of my first investments many moons ago and ive decided to redo a lot of the old ones as well as add to them with new bits and bobs.

Basics idea...

BLOOD AXE ARMY - with a hint of sarcasm aimed at Dark Angels, Rambo, and catachans.

Firstly... obligatory paint area et al... (hope these pictures work)

http://http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0052.jpg

I'll make my next bit on the next post, just to see if this one works...

Dear all...

Well luckily it looks as if that first one worked... which means Gork and Mork are looking down on me well today...

So what needs to be done

http://http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0053.jpg

My Ork collection is pretty huge to be honest. Ive got around 300 boys already, as well as the usual add ones of trucks, wagons, scorchas et al.

Aboutthe only thing i didnt get when i was younger was dreads and thats cos the old one which were about when i first collected looked rubbish.

http://http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0054.jpg

Ive got alot of orks to repaint and the plan is to do a large number of them in Camo looking like they are 'rambo' 'catachan' in style...

I also plan to do a load in armour (especially as i have alot of old old orks) to look like Dark Angels but orky... (including later on in this blog some Deff Wing Mega Armoured Nobz)

Any hows... theres another installment.

Dear all

Other notable bits...

http://http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0057.jpg

Converted an old Orc Wyvern into a Cyber Wyvern.. which will need doing again...

and

http://http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0058.jpg

Battlewagon to repair and do...

I liekd my vehicles back in the old days, but now as i want to make this Blood Axe, i think the Vehicles will take on an imperial edge to them...

Anyhow... Regards

Dear all

Humble beginings...

Well all blogs really need to start somewhere...

I think some of the earliest models i ever bought were some orks in Power Armour, back in the late 80's.

I've still got 8 of the 1987 power armoured ones, and when added to with some other odds and sods, ive made a squad of 10... which i plan to represent flash gitz maybe in the new lists...

http://http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0059.jpg

This is them just prior to under coating, (im painting from black) and i am going to get these guys to look as 'Dark Angel' as i can without them losing there orkness..

This is my last post for today. Hopefully ill have some updates tommorow...

Dear Daniel,

This looks like a very promising plog. I cannot wait to see some closeups of your minis. As for the sig link, go to your UserCP, click edit signature, and click the button that looks like two chain links. From there, you can put in the URL to your plog, and give the link a title.

Dear all

firstly tommygun ... I will take some photos of the ork fighta and put them up soon. it is a scratchbuild yes, made many moons ago indeed...

Next up.... power armoured orks...

http://http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0081.jpg

Here is a group shot of the boys, not to detailed i know, but i will get more close ups.

I've painted the armour in Dark angels green, with a 50/50 snot/dark angels highlight and then finally, snot green highlight.

The skin isfoundation dark green (whatever they call it these days) into knarloc green, into goblin green

I know alot of people shy away from goblin green these days but for me as a bit of an old skool type... thats what colour orks should be...

The guns have been painted in my attempts at NMM. starting with charandon granite, into adeptus battle grey, codex, fortress grey and then white.

Id be interested to know what you people think about it.

One of the things that really attracted me to these orks in the first place was the characteristics of the model.

I think the one loking Grrrr here is a really fab model... and the other has the totally geeky edge that orks hadback in theday.

Anyhow... hope you like

A lot of orks, and some classic stuff to boot. I like the use of green armour, very bold on green orks, but the red really sets it off nicely, makes sure you have a contrast.

Doubt the Dark Angels will be happy about such heresy though!

gonzosbignose
09-07-2008, 16:24
Dear all

Well Da Dark Angelz skwad did turn out ok i have to say. Im pleased with the way the various looks turned out.

Next on the painting board is going to be a mob of 30 in camo...

my camo scheme is as below...

http://http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0088.jpg

Its quite a comples colour progression, and i dont think you can truely appreciate the detail on this pic... i might need to get a better picture...

but the process goes as follows...

Camo Green
Devlan Mud
sploges of scorched brown
highlight sploges with canthan brown
lines of choas black

The first mob i have to do is 30 models all base on the gorkamorka figures...

I find these orks particularly small in comparison to the new ones, but im loathed not to use all my figures...

Also, with a squad of really old ones and various other miniatures, i really want to get a full spread of all the ork ranges over the years.

Anyhow... hopefully some more updates tommorow.

Dear all

Thank you for some great comments.

Marovian - Thank you for your points regarding 'Da Dark Angelz' Im really pleased with the colour. The dark angels green and the slightly different green for the ork skin works quite nicely i think, and the other colours off set it nicely. Thank you for your comments though, i really appreciate it.

Vimes - As i said in your blog. These figures mean alot to me too as they were some of the first things i ever bought.

Lawless - Hey Law!!! How you doodling. Thank you for leaving me a post and sure enough i will bring in some of the boys to the shop soemtime soon. But as i've said in GW this is going to be a long haul job... a year or so i recon.

Anyhow...

Dear all

Well im trying to look frightfully busy at work today, which is terribly difficult when your sat reading peoples latest updates on their blogs.

Its kind of odd, cos when i decided to do my orks when i had finished my last project, their didnt seem to be that many ork armies around, but now i've got round to doing it, there are alot on the go... and alot of very good ones too.

Todays update is the begining of my first mob of 30.

As i said yesterday, the mob is to be based on the gorkamorka orks, and ive got 5 painted up for today, and 25 more in the pipeline.

http://http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0089.jpg

Here are the first 5 orkies.

and as you can see got a pile more to do.

The paint scheme ive chosen, with the camoflage look really good but im actually not sure of the way it works on the gorkamorka orks.

Because my practice model was one of the new orks, it has alot more fabric on it than the gorkamorka orks. That said, although the affect is subtle, it still works.

The NMM on the metal work i think look superb. im really pelased with the way its turned out as alot of the weapons on the gorkamorka orks look dead orky.

anyhow... here is a couple of detailed pics

Dear all

Tommy gun made requests for picture of the scratchbuilt Ork Fighta i have so I've done a load of pictures for it and they will be appearing over the next few posts.

I hope you like it. Its made from plastacard plus a few other odds and sods.

couple of spare GW weapons on it, most quite noticable, but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I actually have a plastic kit for a WW1 tri plane as in the future i would liek to make 'DA REDD BARUN'

I'll do a section on him in the future...

So "Da Redd Barun". I have to warn you, I plan on making a thunderbolt with Snoopy nose art.;)

11-07-2008, 09:22
Dear all

Tommygun... Well maybe when im next over in California, your snoopy scram jet, and 'da redd barun' will have to do battle.

Thank you for your comments though... i appreciate it. I didnt really have Chaos jet in mind when it was made, i just wanted something to look unconvetional..

ok then...

It was our gaming night in our local Games Workshop last night. I took along a small pile of boys to paint, and actually did quite well. I've finished 4 more of the Gorkamorka boys, and got their nob 90% done.

For this particular mob ive chosen to use the games day nob from 1997 (it might be 98 though... its one of those years)

I always loved this model, and i actually acquired another one a few years back, meaning i could cut about this one.

Obviously, power claws are standard kit for a Dedd 'Ard Nob, so ive converted him using the pitslave claw.

Here he is prior to getting painted and ill try and get some WIP pics up at some point today.
http://http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0095.jpg

When i look at the paint job he used to carry it makes me realise how much my painting has come along.

Dear all

I trust you all had marvelous weekends. mine was spent in my local store on Saturday for the big 40K release dressed up as imperial guardsmen... (and girls laura)

The store had a fab day with a huge 40k battle in the bunker, and many copies of the new rule book (and battle for abyss...) flying out the door.

Sunday... Magic pre release for the latest set Eventide... all in all... low on money... and tired lol...

Marovian...

Thank you for your point on the camoflage. Im really pleased with the way its turning out. Camo green has always been a fab colour in my mind, but its such a bright and vivid colour, ive always thought it rather 'in your face' but now with Devlan Mud, it really tones it down and gives a fab colour. In fact... Camo green - Devlan Mud also looks amazing for Death Guard.

We had a young lad in the store at the weekend (hes only 12 or 13 but already shows incredible painting ability) and he is starting some Death Guard. Did camo green and Devlan mud on them and they looked amazing...

LawLess...

Hey Laura... the bruising on my hand is coming up after rescuing that gift voucher yesterday...

How much have i got to do huh?

Well...

10 meganobs and a ghazzkull thraka.

40 nobs

20 bikes

400 boys (including all the odd bits and bobs)

15 or so vehicles

oh... and the Gargant that no one has seen photos of yet...

More updates to follow later on today.

Trust everyone is well

Dear all

Right... the next few posts will feature 'Greg' my gargant.

Background to him.

About 5 years ago now, i thought... im going to build me a gargant. My friend Chris and I had been tlaknig about it for sometime, both being into orks at the time. He had built a marvelous looking battle wagon and as cool as it was, i thought there has to be soemthing more to like than wheels.

The base of the body is something i picked up from a car boot sale, a sort of plastic thing, that i believe might be Jurassic park based, though i've never seen another like it.

It has a hard board base, and other add ons have been a mixture of plasticard, and bitz box junk

rather than give him legs i stuck him on 3 tank stule tracked things which i bought for about £1 each in a local shop which we know politely as 'cheapjacks' cos they sell utter rubbish there for cheap...

its not quite as good as poundland... where you buy everything for a pound but its right up there with it lol.

ok, here are pics... enjoy.

Let me start by saying wow. Greg looks amazing. All the orks swarming around him is exactly how I see a gargant. And as for this weapons... Dont even get me started on how badass they look.

Dear all

Well another day... another dollar... and this morning i woke to Grey Skies and Rain.... Damn you weather...why do you torment me so...

Having got rained on all the way to work, and now drying out trying not to drip on my key board, i'm drinking coffee which is far to strong for this time of the morning.

Redstar...

Greg is pretty bad ass... Re the orks swarming all over him... he used to have a load more... literally i had 40 orks on him, but as time has worn on they have been broken on in transport etc etc. infact, there is one inside him, and if you shake him you can hear the ork rattle about!

Jakarn...

Mr Chester... How are you doing my good friend... Is your zombie blog coming along well, and have you decided which direction your going with your new 40k army yet?

For anyone reading this, Jakarn is a very young gamer from my local store who is painting well beyond his years, and i think has a good chance at the young bloods this year and the next two years at Games Day UK...

Anyhow... thanks for all your thoughts...

Dear all

Trust everyone is keeping well today. Its Friday which brings about mixed blessings for me, as it is always a busy day work wise so i doubt there will be any significant updates.

I spent last night working on the last 10 of my mob of 30. The camo is all done and the first coats of grey for the NMM. hopefully i will get them all nailed this weekend and should be able to do a full update on Monday.

The next project is going to be a squad of Snakebites (all be it Blood Axey)

I have 12 of the old school models, and am looking to semi modify by making back banner poles for the other 18.

Finally, id like ideas for bases...

My last big army i did was an Arbite Army, based on the Codex Law that was produced by Kendoka. It was a big year long project and had lots of swanky city fight style bases.

However...

Whislt i quite like the fact of having another army all city fight terrain, i dont know if id find it a bit dull.

Have you guys got any suggestions for basing styles or techniques you want to see tried?

OK... in response to people...

Marovian...

Thank you for your thoughts on Greg the Gargant. He is a beast. At some stage iam going to do a massive paint job on him and will show all the updates on here of course.

Sneaky Chris...

Don't get yourself down. Losing to me at 40k the other week in a game you really should have won must hurt... but you wouldn't want me to annihilate you at MTG too.

Re the Non metalic metals... im glad you liek them. They have turned out really well on the orks actually. Cos of the 'orky tek' (IE shambolic guns etc) the NMM style works really well i think.

Anyhow...

Trust everyone is well.

idea for the bases......make them clash with the ork cammo ...lol true orks dont think about that stuff, but then blood axes are shunned by ork socity for being un orky.
kicking my ass at 40k did hurt, but it was worth it to see the prison guard annilate his entire squad when the plasma gun overloaded........I sujest rearming him with someting that doesnt kill his entire squad when he dies lol.
As for MTG, get that comp to match us up and we will see what we will see.......

gonzosbignose
18-07-2008, 11:52
Well i like the idea of doing a mismatch for the camo... but at the same time, i think jungle esq/forest bases might be really cool.

I think the other major concern for me is just how big orks are! The new ones absolutely fill the 25mm circle bases, and getting the bases to look uber cool will be difficult.

I might knock up some testers at the weekend and ask opinions next week

Re MTG, SneakyChris... your good... ill give you that. Was pleased to see you in at 4 at the weekend... but don't grow beyond your station. We will play sometime soon, and i will tear you apart. :-)

Dear all

So Snake bites have these funky back banners, and the first step to getting them to look right is to create back banners...

http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0150.jpg

Ive taken plastic rod and moulded green stuff around the tops. Im making some up to look like feathers, and others with snake orientated items.

Then fixing to the rear with a circular piece of Greentstuff so that it looks like the snakebites as they should do.

http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0151.jpg

There is a problem with the head sizes on these, the gorkamorka orks look so different but im hoping to be able to merge them in well enough.

I'm not the worlds best modeller really, so dont expect any 'hortworth' esq re moulding, but just so long as they merge in nicely enough ill be happy.

Anyhow

Trust you guys are all well

Hi again!

Thanks for the compliment on my painting. I'm currently also struggling with having to make up some Snakebite backbanners so your log is very inspiring. I'm not that much of a fan of the old Gorkamorka range either but using them as Snakebite boys probably is the best way of using them. Seems like you're progressing pretty fast; nice to see that. :)

Dear all

wow lots of replies....

Firstly may i say... when i first started this blog out, i was a bit concerned with the number of replies. Alot of people seem to read blogs, but don't leave comments, and i really apprecaite, and in fact... THRIVE off of the comments left by you all.

Daniel36... Your name is Daniel and you are a wargamer!!! Be proud of it... i am! I really vaule the fact that you like the gritty quality of the army. Ive always liked the goofy nature of orks, but for a war like race, sometimes i think this is taken to far. Its my intention to have a really nice, Camoflaged/Imperialised army of Orks by the end.

Sigur... The gorkamorka range was on the whole i beleive pretty poorly sculpted, but i do have alot of figures for it, so its imperative for me to get them done. One of the reasons i did the gorkamorka plastics, and metals first... is because i didnt want to get to the stage where i didnt do them. Ive left some of the nicer more characterful figures to do in the future!

SneakyChris... Your more Darth Maul than Darth Vader... so remember what Obi Wan did!!!! I will call you later today re orks and magic. Ive got a deck list to send you too... pm me your email addy... its fab for multiplayer and ive got the deck constructed at home.

Tommygun... AAGGHHHHHH.... you quoted my picture... and it just makes me realise even more how bad i was at painting back then. Re the trousers... yeah... i had a pair too! Infact... the camo effect on the trousers isnt actually that bad lol....

Ill see if i can fly up a few more piccies later on, but until then... thank you all for your comments!

Dear all

Well its Friday. Most weeks i look forward to Friday but this week its a possitively immense feeling to know i have a few days off.

Redstar... you asked why the bad day. I just dont even know where to start.
I think in essence it comes down to the fact that there are only so many hours in the day to get your work done. On top of that, i work in a fairly small office... 8 people, and 4 are on holiday for a fortnight. That means more phones to answer, more queries to deal with, and more mess ups by other people to resolve, and yesterday was a bad example of it. I had to spend over an hour and half sorting out soemthing one of my colleagues hadnt done before he dissappeared to the south of france for a fortnight. I wasnt best pleased.

Subsequently, it was a long old day....

I got over to my local store last night however to do a bit of painting. I've got the first 3 snakebites finished and will have photos up lunchtime.

I trust everyone else is alright.

Dear all

Update with photos in the next hour

sigur...

Its my intention to do a big basing stint when ive decided what im going to do.

Ive had a couple of ideas now for the bases, and the likelihood is that they will be big exciting bases to look at, and painted as much as dry brushed.

Rest assured im going to be very careful with the bases and the models...

Re back banners... im just not sure. Ive painted three so far, and ill probably do all the back banners in one go. Ive been considering trying a technique which uses tin foil... though ive not tried it before...

Normally i go for green stuff banners as aposed to paper...

I went out to the storage shed and found "my Old Ones".
Couldn't find all of them.
Mine are ether dressed as pirates or German uniforms.
They don't quite fit with the newer plastic ones, maybe they are older?
I know I will be adding a few Mohawks and beards to my orks.

Dear all

Trust everyone is well. Its Friday today which is always nice. Alas i had a dream last night so where today was saturday... so woke to some disappointment when i realised i needed to come into the office.

My father... who passes his eyes over here from time to time, has given me pile of 20mm world war 2 germans to paint aswell. They are based on the Ardennes campaign so are in white and camo. Ive done a few to start with and i might through some piccies up next week.

Back to the orks however...

Redstar

I really appreciate your point of view. I think the snakebites are coming on well, all be it, alot slower than the first mob.
Im scared when i look at how many i have actually got to paint. Ive now finished about 50 in total and i have well over 300 to go and thats not including vehicles.

Tommygun

Firstly... anyone reading this who isnt Tommygun... go see his blog cos he has built an awesome Orky plane!

Secondly... im glad your feeling the old skool quality of the orks. I have got a load of the new ones to do aswell, but i am really enjoying doing the old ones at the moment. If you like the snakebites... you wait for the rogue trader metal and plastic ones to coem in the near future...

Right... well although ive got over 20 models still to paint for my snakebites... im trying to decidewhat to do next.

Couple of options...

Firstly... some vehicles...

Secondly... some grots...

Thirdly... more orks...

Cast your votes...

Holy crap. 300 more?!? Man, I wish you lived in the states and had that horde done now. We could have a serious battle. But then again, I would need my completed army up and running too, which, at this rate, is gonna be awhile.

Dear all

Wow... what a marvelous weekend.

Its not to often that I get into work after a weekend feeling thouroughly relaxed and happy.

This saturday i spent in my local GW doing a bit of painting and gaming. I also helped with the new Black Reach models... and i have to say... what a great set of sprues.

For those of you who havent had the chance to see them close up yet, the new plastics are marvelous...

The space marines... all be it... clip fix... arent at all bad. The dreadnaught is marvelous, i must say

The orks however!!!! You would be hard pushed to tell the clip fix ones from normal orks when mixed in. The plastic Nobs actually do look better than in the pictures... and the Warboss is a nice figure.

The gems though are the death copters...

My god what an incredible set of models... they truely are fantastic models.

Sunday i went to a little Magic the Gathering competition and got beaten by a12 year old and a 14 year old... terribly embarressing, but im willing to gloss over that, as had a marvelous evening with my GF watching bad movies eating Chinese TakeAway... (and then crisps {chips} and dips)

All in all not alot of painting, but a fab weekend

Right updates...

Ive got a pile of photos to through on here tommorow...

firstly... snakebites coming along nicely... slowly but surely i think is the best term.

WW2 stuff for my father... got the first group done, ill throw up some piccies tomorrow for you to see....

Finally...

My GF just finished her first ever GW model... Dark Elf Sorceress... (the classic one with the long coat and corset)

Ill take some pics and get them up tommorrow... im stoked by how well its come out. (she is a fine art student i must add) but for a first ever model, and genuinely, with no help from me... shes turned out a great figure.

Anyhow...

I trust you are all well...

Im going to try and stop dribbling over Death Copter goodness...

Hi Dan, that army is looking sweet. I always have a lot of respect for collectors of horde armies as I aim for the smallest elitest armies as possible to cut down on the painting!!

Now stop helping out the blueshirts and keep getting your own stuff done!! (unless they promised one of those uber cool looking deff coptas as payment!!!)

PS. Loving the old school stuff mate. Makes even me feel young!

Dear all

Its a quiet afternoon and here i am on Warseer.... Terrible isnt it.

Jabba...

firstly, its good to catch up... and thank you for your message.

Re painting horde armys... its a mission, but to be honest... its quite nice to see them coming out and getting a real pile of the boys out. The only downside is carrying the buggers about.

GW massive cases are fab for figures... but what they didnt take into account was the back ache you get from shifting about 100 plus models! especially if like my orks they are mostly metal...

Im seeing a law suit for bad back versus GW in the near future lol...

Re the comments on my painting... thank you... your painting is truely top notch... and such a comment is really appreciated!

Re helping out blue shirts... Who else is going to get the bloody models done? Next time you go in... ask to see all the lovely painted mordor stuff from the mordor release 3 months ago... (ps... you'll struggle) (incidentally... lian... law... dom... thats no dig at you)

Finally... Jabba... very nice signiature...

ill leave you with this...

Dear all

Looking back on the pictures of Alice's dark elf i cant begin to tell you all how proud i am of her...

I should add she is a fine art student... so it isnt uncommon for her to have a paint brush in her hand, but normally she is paint 4ft canvases with massive brushes and not tiny models with 'ooo' and fine detail brushes...

http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0164.jpg

Incidentally... im absolutely 100% convinced i couldnt look any worse in this picture if i tried...

Hey again. I like the fact that you painted the boltgun casings red; adds a bit of colour which is nice. Have you considered some zig-zag or snake patterns on the bolters, pants or as warpaint?

Daniel, Alice did a great job on the mini. Nice gradual transitions between the shadowed and high lighted areas of the purple robe.
It looks like she took the extra time to blend the gray high lights into the black too.
You are right about the skull. It looks like there are several layers of color there alone.
By the way, she has very pretty eyes, lucky you. -Tom.

Dear all

Well Batman last night was actually pretty good, but a damn long movie.

Heath Ledger pulled out a fine performance, and all in all i think the movie was great bar some sloppy editting... but when one of your lead actors dies... you can be forgiven for editting it badly i think.

Jabba

Thank you for your comments.

Re WW2 items. Its not actually Flames of War... the figures are by another manufacturer... in fact i think 3 different manufacturers. The rules by which my father plays are called Rapid Fire. A nice set of ww2 rules which have been really updated in recent years, based on a set probably as old as i am.

Im painting them up in little groups of 4 or 5 depending on how many i pull out of the bag of figures to do lol...

The Snakebites are coming along well i have to say. The NMM was soemthing i have been playing about with for sometime. I did some GreyKnights in NMM to try the technique out, and then painted GW Worcester's stores Harry the Hammer using the same technique.

As for doing it on all these Orks... mad i may well be... but i think its looking good so far.

Alice has been really pleased with the comments so far on her Dark Elf... and believe me... there will be more from her... all be it... slow installments in dribs and drabs i suspect.

Anyhow

Trust everyone is well

Dear all

I trust everyone is keeping well...

Today i have no picture updates im affraid, but im planning a very possitive weekend so will have a big picture fest on Monday i am sure...

I'm currently painting up the plastic fellowship of the ring for a local staff member. He has the priveldge of becoming the new manager for a GW store being opened in Cwmbran (please my apologies to you welsh people i think its spelt like that)

Obviously he has to paint a load of figures, (skull pass, black reach, mines of moria) before he goes to the store, so we are all trying to help out, and im doing his fellowship.

Replys....

Sigur... BLASPHEMY!!!! Ill have you know that the imperium of mankind is everything that good... lol... (i know that mankind isnt great... but its an act i put on in my local GW store... Imperium are the good guys)

Mr P... Thank you for your thoughts... I suspect we may well see more Germans in the future...

Donuter... Morning Nagle... (everyone else... Donuter is a chappie from my local store, who himself is producing some beautiful orks of his own at the moment)

Yes, perhaps we can confound mr norman in the future with our green tide.

and finally Imus....

Imus... Ive looked over your blog... ive looked at the messages you have posted... and you have confounded me.

your clearly a GW member of staff... but your store doesnt look like gloucester or cheltenham...

Firstly... To those of you who have been keeping up to date with there blogs, fair play to you all.

I was really impressed with my work on this, and the fact that i kept it up to date nearly daily for a whole month, but crikey... the last few weeks have been manic, and ive really lost the plot.

I was able to do some painting over the weekend just gone and ive nearly completed the snakebite squad i seem to have been working on for an age.

Im suprised at how difficult its been to keep up with the painting, but i still feel confident on my 1yr deadline for getting them all done.

Ive also been doing alot of other painting lately... My local GW staff member is getting his own store, so ive done a fellowship for him, and load of WW2 stuff for my old man.

BUT NOW!!!

Back to orks for a bit

Replies to people...

We will definitely grab a game at some point. it will be odd to have green versus green... but your new salamnders need to find out what true green is all about.

That Waaaagh-shot looks great. Actually, I like those Gorkamorka Orks quite a lot now that they are painted. My favorite has to be the grinning fella with the red shoota in the front. Quite an unusual, kind of awkward, rogue trader-ish pose. Very good.

Mr Feral

For my NMM silvers i use Charandon Granite, Adeptus Battle Grey, Codex Grey, fortress Grey and white.

My gold nmm varies wildly...

I like using snakebite leather with a wash over to start with... and then i build up through various browns... I like Vomit brown alot, and also the foundation ochre colour... then bleached bone and white again

My NMM looks ok in my opinion, but i have seen far better examples of it...

Its just to a standard i am pleased with and thats the main thing.

Firstly, thank you for the kind thoughts. Ill try and get a nice piccie of my nose for here at some point. The bruisings really come out today so i got nice yellow patches round my nose and eyes.

Tommy, Jabba and Toshenko, your thoughts are all appreciated. Infortunutely some peoples idea of a good night these days involves fighting. I prefer dancing and having a laugh with my mates. I think i know which sounds like more fun to me...

I like to do my fighting with D6's

Jabba... how do i get all the painting done? speed really... (and no... not the drugs)

Im very lucky in that im a very quick painter. We got nearly 60 of the crimson fists done for the store now, which is good. The fellowship happened over a few days, and im pleased with the turn out.

Regarding the inquisitor space marine, Toshenko, thank you for your points. Im not so good on the shading with the faces. to be honest, i dont think im a demon winning standard at all, i want to enter so someone can see my painting.

Jabba, thank you for your thoughts on the marine.

Today ive got my squad entry pics... on this post and the next few...

Woah, great stuff of huge quantities in here!

Sadly no Orks, but other very good and old stuff of great quality. Your converted Artemis looks cool; did you use a conversion bit for that powerfist or did you scratchbuid it?

Paintingwise, Harry the Hammer looks the most impressive, especially the NMM.

Looking forward to seeing some more stuff of you!

P.S.: Hope you have fun in Paris. I went there for two weeks last fall and I found it great. It may sound like a silly cliché but those french are really, really good at making baguettes. I even spotted a GW store relatively close to Paris (saw the Baneblade for the first time there back then) at some mall at the train station at Versailles.

I think you stand a strong chance of being a finalist, maybe more at GD this year. I still havnt decided what im taking, but thats another story for another thread. I still love harry the hammer, and i am super jealous of the NMM. Keep up the good work.

Dear all

Hey everyone. I trust you are all keeping well.

Just to update you all.

Nose... Well... the bruising and damage is down. I've got a bit of a crooked nose, and i am going to need a minor operation to sort it out, but nothing to overly worry about.

Holiday... Well... Paris was EPIC!!!! The weather was stunning and i had an incredible time. Great pictures, great touristy bits. Games Workshop paris was fab and i got a great ork mekboy from paris to have in the army (unsure whether to make him with a white flag though ;) )

Moved House... Well... I moved house at the weekend, so in a nice new place, and pictures of the new painting table to come soon.

Replies to everyone

Leogecko...Thank you for the thoughts and i'm glad you like the Wolves.

Donuter... Hey chief... Im glad you had a good tiem on the Warhammer World trip. Incidentally everyone... (will - donuter) took up 40 of my painted orks to a warhammer world trip so that he had a big enough orky horde, and did really well!

Sigur... Imglad your keeping well. Ill drop over and have a loko at your updates and leave a message. I am back onto Orks now so we should see some moves. Ive got some genuinely old school stuff in progress.

Wolf Scout Ewan... Short message but the sentiments are appreciated

doghouse... firstly.... great name. I know it well cos my GF regularly has me in the doghouse because of wargaming lol. Thanks for your comments its very much appreciated.

Jakarn... Mr Chester... Golden Demons should be fun. Not long till Gamesday now... Sunday and counting... We will see how we both do. I'm not bothered by awards, its just nice to enter such a high quality painting competition and see all the other competitors works.

Sneaky Chris... Hey big dog how are you doing? To be honest, we had a lvoely hotel in the Latin Quater and it wasnt overly expensive. The trip was great and it was fab to use the french again, infact i was suprised by how comfortable i was with the language. bought a news paper and could actually make sense. That said... French White Dwarf!!!! You don't realise how much 'wargaming language' there is until you look at something in another language.
You leave my space wolves alone. Your shirt lifting Dark Angels can stay with you. Im not having any ponces in my figure cases!!!!
Re killer cans... stick with one weapon variant. Id be inclined to go down the rocket route, cos the BS3 of killer cans means that they might actually be able to hit armoured stuff!

Jabba... Hey matie. Well ive been doing a little bit for the store, and trying to get Lian's figures ready for when he has the big store move has meant alot of painting for him too. That said, helping him out with his new store is a pleasure, as im so pleased he has got himself a store at last. 5.5 years with the firm and finally given his chance to shine.
ORks are on the agenda though...

So...

Just so you guys are aware, i have a mob of 30 1988 metal rogue trader orks to do.

This picture is one ive ripped of the net but it gives you an idea of whats being done.

Dear all

Well its been over a month since i last updated everything on here, and tommorrow we will see the first big update in sometime.

To fill everyone in on whats happened in the last 30 days, i thought i better fill you in on the details!

Moved House...

Big changes afoot in the realms of housing. I moved out of my apartment into a house in Worcester here where i live. Its a big change, and took a long time for me to settle. The new place is lovely, and im really enjoying the new house. I've got some pics so ill be sure to put those up, and also take pictures of my new painting area!

Nose... Still not much changed there. I have to go in for an operation still, but its not to bad. I thought it was quite bad at first, but actually as ive got used to it, the break isnt that noticable unless you look for it.

Orks... I actually got painting some again the last couple of days, and im starting back in on the metal rogue trader ones i had started on.

Other stuff... My local store was going through soem tough times staff wise, following people leaving, and new staff members begining, so ive done alot of painting for the sotre lately... including all the vanguard and sturmguard marines. They turned out nicely... even though they were smurfs lol...

Work... bloody credit crunch means works a bit manic at the moment. Alot of late nights and busy days. Still i cant grumble... i know alot of people losing jobs etc... so i think im doing alright.

anyhow... i trust everyone is ok.

Hey, good to see you back at painting (and painting the right [=orky] stuff, that is).

Well, there seems to be quite some stuff going on in your life. The new house looks nice. Shame that it seems to have fallen over in the second picture. ;) Your workspace looks incredibly tidy at the moment and pretty well-organized. When I moved in at my flat here in London, I more or less just slapped everything on the table and started painting. Your table itself looks very nice. Just don't get any paint on it!

Those are some weird-looking cigarettes you're smoking. Are those slim and very long ones? The package in the other picture looks more "normal" to me.

That red box underneath your amazing paints drawer looks familiar to me. Could that be the lower part of a plastic Space Orks box?:)

Well, all that it left for me to say is: Enjoy your new house and I'm really looking forward to seeing those really old Orks painted. You're the one who's painting the older Orks now. Seems like I'll have to dig up some seriously old stuff to keep up with that. ;)

Dear all

I'm not going to lie to you guys. This morning all i wanted to do was lie in bed. You ever wake up, and the last thing you want to do is face the reality of the day ahead?

Yesterday wasn't a great day. Long day in the office... lots of work on the go... all very irritating! but all in all it was ok.

It got worse when i got home. I've recently been introduced to the fabulous World or Warcraft... and yesterday they did a big update! and its filled up the harddrive on my laptop.... so i cant play :-(

Which does mean more time for painting!

Sigur!

My god you have got sharp eyes! What is it your doing in London again? Working for MI5?

I do usually try to keep myself pretty well organised and in the past i have kept my paints in one of the Games Workshop cases all in order.

My new Oak desk which i bought at auction, has a lovely draw which is perfect for the paints however.

Re Cigarrettes - lol... good spot.

You know i went to Paris. Well i picked up a packet of Vogue Cigarrette whilst there for people. Not mine lol. They are long and very fine indeed, and were enjoyed by friends on a night out.
The other packet tragically, are nothing to do with me either... im pretty sure if i was a smoker, i would go for cigars! Always liked the guy on the A Team who smoked cigars... Col "Hannibal" Smith

With regard to the box underneath the desk... good eyes... but not correct! It is the lower half of a 1980's GW box, but it actually came from an EPIC army i bought, and wasn't the rogue trader orks!

Dictator... Yes thats me!!! lol

Ill put the link on here so any of you guys who want a laugh can have it

And Redstar!!!

Click the above link and have a smile. Perhaps it will tell you more about me than anything else!

OK

Well like a plonker i forgot to pic up the box of 5 that ive done for this squad, so you'll have to wait until tommorrow to see these beauties looking finished.

however i have got 10 of the work in progress ones, and the photos are below.

With regard to the older figures, they are interesting to paint. They are alot smaller than old style models, and the details are more simplistic. Im amazed at the size of the guns, in comparison to the new ones they are so small.

Anyhow...

Wow, you're this famous internet person?

Seriously, I saw your video when it was first posted in 40k General discussion and all the time I thought that this " My name is Daniel and I am a Wargamer" is some kind of reference to this video guy; it actually never crossed my mind that you could be this very person. (One of my personal theories about the Internet sais that people who are in videos on the Internet don't really exist ;) ).

Anyway, the fact that I spotted the cigarettes was more because I quit smoking to months ago and I still seem to have some kind of "where's the cigarettes"-application running in the back of my spoilt brain.:p

Epic armies also used to come in those big boxes? There must have been lots of stuff in there back then. ;)

Shame that you started playing WoW really. It's always sad when people fall for WoW before ever having experienced Everquest2. But anyway, if you are any similar to my MMORPG habits, prepare not to get any painting done for the next three weeks.

Anyway, on to the painting. What kind of camera do you use to take your photos again?

Those early RT-era Orks really are quite different to what we're used to nowadays. The guns are tiny indeed. Did you encounter any problems with the metal itself? I have about 20 or so of those old 'uns and I really have to be careful about them so I don't destroy and details with that very soft material. Do you know the Space Ork Raiders box? The single models were packed as if they were filled with nitroglycerin.

So try to finish those Orksies fast; they surely will get some recognicion once people spot them in your army. :)

Dear all

Drinking coffee... having 5 minutes break!

Sigur

Thank you for your reply...

Re being Famous.... i wouldn't go that far. Interesting facts about the Video though.

Its Videonations most watched video of all time. It had so many hits, mostly due to this site and the others i posted on, and it saw alot of views by the 'wargaming community' and hopefully others.

Initially i had hoped that it might get an airing on national TV, as one of those, in between show things, but tragically, the sound quality just isn't up to whats required by TV.

Nevermind. im quite pleased with the level of work that i got and the set up.

Epic used to come in some pretty big boxes. That one in question had sprues of Eldar, Orks, Space Marines and Imperial Guard i think. Alas, i used to love Epic, back in the days of Titan Legions (were geuninely tlaking 15 years ago i think)

Well ive had to go to a computer shop today to see all about upgrading my hard drive and getting more memory. I play on a laptop so it isnt to great anyhow... but hopefully ill get WOW working again.

Im not one of these folks that dedicates there lives to it. Im fairly new to the world of azeroth... but its good fun, and i play along with a friend so its a bonding tool.

My camera is a little Fujifilm z10.... about 8-10 megapixel i think. Its a great camera... wasnt overly expensive anddoes the job.

Ive seen people on some threads tlaking about tripod, backing sheet, lens stuff... and its completely weird and alien to me. I know my camera does what id liek it to at the moment.

The orks are coming along alright. I had always set this as a year long project and by my own time table im a bit behind now. but it will come together... and its people like you that keep me inspired to keep on painting.

Mr P....

Your still the only man i know with more tanks than the British Army...

Though in fairness at this rate! i might have more orks than we have soldiers too...

hows the ships coming along!

Dear all

Well its saturday night, haloween weekend, and im sat here in girls tights, with bones stuck to them and gloves that look like skeleton hands, waiting to be picked up for a haloween bash.

Downside is that ive got UHU glue stuck to my legs where the bones have been fixed, and i've just experienced what it is to have your legs waxed by trying to pull the glue from my legs! GREAT FUN :wtf:

MULRAK - Thanks for your comments. I'm really enjoying doing all the orks. IT is a bit of an endless mission. I keep seeming to acquire orks from various places and im not really sure that the numbers are getting less

DONUTER - Hey Nagel. Yes they are the nobs from the box i split with Jonky. Hopefully, they will look cool. Went splits on another box of black reach this week too so plenty more boys for the cause.

TOMMYGUN - The camo is a labor of love, but i have to say i am so pleased with how its turning out, and i think that Blood Axe's don't get the love they deserve often, so hopefully these will look great.

CAILUS - Goblin green is such a classic colour. I spent many years using it as a basing colour only, but after doing my Fantasy green skin army i realised that Gob Green is the only way! Thank you for your comments also, glad you like Greg the gargant

SNEAKY CHRIS - How you doing buddy. We really must catch up sometime soon, i havent seen you in ages. I hope you and Rach are well, and we will have to get together and have a big Waagghhh sometime soon in Worcester

WARFORGER - Glad you like the Space Pups... they were a side painting project, and whilst i have no plans for more in the near future, who knows what next years project might turn out to be.

Hehe, ive done similar stuff before too. My biggest OW moment was when i stepped into some dirt while on patrol and uncovered White Phospherous. My whole boot went up in flames and had to cut it off of me before it got into my skin.
Not sure what that has to do with 40k, but i find humor in it now, besides that my son grabbed my super glue and poured some on my head, not a fun day for me either.

Cant wait to see more updates, take care!

UPdate

Just checked my legs, and am now missing two long strips of hair down my thighs!

OW!!!!!

Some women are really into that hairless look, but you will need to wax more than your legs.

Wow... I never thought I would say this but... that was way to much info :p

On topic, Ive been meaning to say how much I like your camo orkies. You really do have a way with making the RT models look really good, exactly the stuff that got me into GW in the first place.

Hey Daniel, what's up? How come your log fell back to page 8 or 9? ;) Lost the interest in your Orksies or does nasty old real-life keep you occupied?

Anyway, Those really old Orks look gorgeous. Your NMM improved and the colour scheme makes those mini go well with the rest of your army. Sadly, the pictures are a bit dark but anyway, your Orks are turning out to be very fine.

Dear all

Well this has been a long time coming. I hope you guys aren't to upset about the lack of updates, but to be honest, between life and work, i've sturggle on time recently.

First thing first... Snikrot...

God what a lovely model. Ive bought him... stuck him togehter... sprayed him... and he wil be joind by 14 friends for a nice unit of kommandos, which will be the next things to appear on here in the next few weeks.

http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0618.jpg

Warboss...

I bought a couple of copies of AoBR... because... although i don't need any more orks... it just seemed to good a deal not to.

I painted u the warboss. Im not actually a big fan of the model... but i think its turned out ok.

http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l460/gonzosbignose/DSCF0614.jpg

As you can see on the backof the base ive added a tree... see next post for this.

I bought the trees from a local model shop. They come as armatures... plastic wrapped around a thin wire i gather. you can bend it into the position you want, and in the long run... im planning on adding folliage.

The camo is looking real sharp man, you have a lot of patience to do that stuff. I love the fact they're all camo'd with bright red parts, pure orky.

keep it up man.

V_ol_otron

Thank you...

the red guns is a thing i have with a couple of my 40k armies. I dont know why... but red guns just seems a bit cooler than dark guns.

The Camo is a labour of love, i wont lie. it takes a while to do especially over the numbers of orks i am facing (im not even a quarter of the way there yet, and thats just the foot troops)

Projectkmo

The skin is actually quite simple to do. The new GW Washes are a god send. fairly simple highlighting can be made to look top notch by using the washes over the top as it blends everything in.

In essence the camo is similar in the way its acheived. to coats of camo green give a nice basis for some devlan mub love to tone it down, and then the camo is built on top of that... one one of my earlier pages details how i acheive this.

Would love to hear more thoughts if anyone has any

Dear Daniel,

I must confess that I am 88 shades of jealous :) This is a fantastic plog, and your models are full of Orky goodness. Although I quit playing WH about 8 years ago (after starting in 1990) I have a fairly sizable tote of Chaos Marines a friend gave me that sit dusting away in the closet, but seeing such an impressive army is giving me motivation to pull those bad boys out and get back to the grind again.

BTW, I love the cases for your paints and figs... I always shied away from spending the $$ for the pro ones, but I made my own out of some old cassette tape carriers. Can't wait to see more of your work!

Dear all

Well i cruised into my local gw yesterday to pick up some Kommando bits to make up my squad, and i hope to have photos at some point in the next few days of the first 15.

Also arranging a 12 man tournement at my local GW. 12 people signed up within half an hour... so im really pleased.

We are lucky in worcester because we have a gaming room. Across the entire store, including the main shop floor we have around 10-12 tables... and having a gaming room means for a really nice atmosphere and playing group.

I suppose that if we didnt there would be a really good gaming club, there instead. but its so much easier and nicer having it in store.

Donuter... Will thank you for your reply. You too have a great set of orks at the moment and im looking forward to seeing how they turn out.

Devilocks... 88 shades? thats a heavy Metal shade regime... im afraid i dont use anywhere near that numbers of shades but thank you. You really should dust of the chaos marines though.

Wargaming has given me so much in my life over the years. A fabulous oportunity to meet people, an escape and a release from the hecticness of life itself... and more importantly... an oportunity to through a heap of bad dice!

Thank you for your message and i hope you do get back into it!

Regards to you all

Will you have any Camouflaged vehicles to go with the troops?

gonzosbignose

Tommygun...

Vehicles? Crikey thats a scarey thought isnt it!

I have a whole heap of vehicles to do, and i also have a load of imperial vehicles i want to make up for some blood axey goodness.

As for camo vehicles....

I don't know. Maybe i'll do some vehicles after i have done the kommandos!

Dear All

This Monday finds me in interesting circumstance. A jovial office having fun, but at the same time ... a miserable Daniel.

My good lady has gone away to Turkey for a week and i'm in a bit of a quandry. Missing her terribly.

So i've decided to absorb myself in soldiers this week.

I stuck togehter 14 kommandos today including a few minor conversions, (hand swaps mainly) and i hope to have some picture up later of other odds and sods.

right... well i always find that the initial greens of the camo and things brings the thig to life.

I tend to paint my models, green camo, then the NMM, then the skin et al...

Looking good, old boy. How're those tree armatures? I might get myself a few of those, if they're any cop!

gonzosbignose
09-02-2009, 20:20
Donuter/Nagel!!!

Your right i did condemn them didnt i!

Truth is development within the game have made me consider their use a little more.

As armies are changing to counter the 'horde' lists... nids and orks... alot of armies are sticking units of high power shooting on the rear of the table.

Snikrot and co arriving on the rear board edge to deal with devestators... oblitorators... rear armor of vehicles... imperial guard heavy weapons teams...seems to be an option i dont conisder to sloppy any more.

Plus... i was going to do three squads of them in the long run anyway... any self respecting blood axe owner has too.

Mr P...

Tree armatures seem pretty good to be honest. I'm going to have more of a play first.

Outflank only gives you right and left flanks. You see, I told you they where good, try 2 burna's and power claw (but you already knew that didn't you). In the tournement are there any secondry objectives/bonus' for killing elite units or leaders as I thought that could add an extra element to games. Just an Idea. Any idea on how to do blue urban camo?

Well been over to GW at lunchtime and its a hive of activity in my local store today, couple of games going on, lots of staff working hard which is lovely to see.

Out of Context... thank you for your comments. The NMM is something ive been trying to get better at. Someone told me NMM is a techique which you get batter at with practice, and what better practice than doing a horde army.

Vampires are Cool... Why thank you... do i get the feeling i know you from somewhere ;-)
