I've been meaning to start a Fantasy army since the local GW i play at has more Fantasy players then 40k players.

Originally I was thinking Wood Elves, but learn they really have no armor and rely heavily on flanking. After jumping around, I finally settled with High Elves mostly because of their "Always strike first" rule. This is great when combined with weapons which usually strike fast such as Great Weapons.

So without further ado, i present my 1k Fantasy Army.

HQ: 185pts
- Lvl 2 Mage + Silver Wand + Ring of Fury

Core: 110pts
- 10X Archers

Specialist: 555pts
- 15X Phoenix Guardian
- 15X White Lions
- 5X Silver Helms

Rare: 150pts
- Great Eagle
- Repeater Bolt Thrower

Points: 1000 flat
Model: 50
Cost: Around $175

I like this army. It's powerful and its flexible. The Archers should guard the bolt thrower in a castle formation while the silver helms go around and flank. The white lions and phoenix guard should probably go after pesky infantry units.

Hmm intresting, u take 2 out of the 3 "elite infantry" but the one you left out is probably the best one. Unless your playing a very shooty army. I also feel that your character is too pricey for a small game. IF he dies then its curtains.

He has just under 20% invested in characters. I don't know about you, but it is hard for me to get under 30% when using any elf army at 2250 points, so I really don't think he is too expensive.

:\..

: D Finally, some originality!

Whenever I play, it's always Phoenix Guard < White Lions <<<< Sword Masters...

Still, pretty simple &solid.
No commandz?

Solid list. The L2 Mage is outfitted in the best possible way as well. I use something similar but rely on a Noble instead of a Mage.

Yeah, one great difference between 40k and fantasy that im seeing a lot in other lists is expensive decked out leaders.

I also though a hint of magic would make this list more balanced.

I like Sword Master, but they lack good saves. I might trade them in though if I'm up against other armies with tougher units. I'm not sure what you mean by "commandz"

Now that I think about it, a variation could be 138pts noble and trading the Eagle for a 2nd Repeater Bolt Thrower. Another sound option.

Yep, though I always seem to miss Eagles more than an extra RBT. I'd use the free points for a Lion Banner for the WLs and maybe some musicians instead.

looks like a fairly solid list. However I have two concerns.

1) I've been away from fantasy for a little bit, but if my memory serves me right you're only allowed to bring one rare choice in a 1k game. If I were you I'd probably drop the eagle.

2) I'm also almost certain that two core units are required. Regardless, even if you are able to get away with one unit, I'd still drop one of the elite infantry units to load up on a nice block of spearmen and maybe a small flanking force of silver helms

With the archers and bolt thrower supported by a solid center of spearmen and one elite infantry unit, and the silver helms running about and raising all hell, you should be in good shape.

Pick up the High Elves codex when you have time. They have exceptions and for 1k, they could have 2 Rares and 1 core. They are more elite then other armies.

Really? I like facing swordies. They burn very well, and can't do much on heroes. (At least, not lizard heroes.)

cha-what? The new codex lets those bastards just throw point restrictions out the window? I declare that in the spirit of fairness I should be able to bring a skaven army consisting entirely of Warpfire throwers :D

Regardless, even though the list is legit, I'd still recommend dropping the eagle and one of the elite infantry troops. Use those points to bulk up on numbers, its always nice to have extra bodies, even in the case of elves
