savage orc warboss
+6 ward (war paint)
great weapon
armour of gork

black orc warboss
+5 ward (boss hat)
armed to the teeth
battle brew
heavy armour
shield

the black orc warboss is 15 points more expensive than the savage, gains WS, loses T and will most likely be frenzied too and maybe have hatred... or just be stupid...

for the past year i've been running my 2250 force with the savage orc warboss... he's done me well... 5 S7 attacks and being as tough as a steam tank look good on paper and decimate enemies on the field...

on a whim i decided to use a spiffy black orc model as general... give me a chance to dust him off and see how he fared in this new incarnation of warhammer...

he done good...

i must say i enjoy the image of a previously sane black orc warboss popping the cork of a noxious brew before each battle to be as frenzied as the troops he goes to war with... hacking enemies to pieces in his drug-induced hatred... or drooling slightly and having trouble remembering his battle plan...

my savage orc warboss is just that... very straightforward, cheap in points and... well, a bit plain... as plain as a savage orc can get, i guess... though i do enjoy him greatly...

so... what is your take on the situation... which of these fellas appeals to you as a gamer? which would you rather have head your army or an army set against you?

i'm interested to hear what you have to say...

I love my orcs and goblins.

For a warboss, I go all out when taking a savage one:

Savage Orc
Boar Chariot
Pig Sticker
Big's kicking boots
talisman of gork

For a black orc, I really like:
Black orc warboss
boar
battle axe of the last wagh
shield

both are beasts.

It depens i prefure the Black Orc as he is more reliable than the frenzy/animosity Savage Orc.

Is your hammer unit a mob of screaming savage orc boar boyz? Do you field forest goblins on spiders? The Savage Orc is the best choice and he'll have plenty of character as he leads the charge.

If you have war machines and armored units then a Black Orc WarBoss can push your unruly horde to victory per unflagging willpower.

Either choice is the right choice.

I'd go with the Black Orc but I dont like the idea of the Battlebrew on him. You take a Blorc to be reliable, the Brew seems counter productive. Just give him kickin boots for 6 S6 Attacks.

I like the idea of Fighty Savage Orc Shamans though, kickin boots, skull wand. For 3 Lethal Attacks, especially against monsters.

I think a Gobbo Warboss with Tricksy Trinket and Amulet of Protectyness and Great Weapon is amazing against heavily tooled up enemy lords.

But of your two, take a Blorc, don't compromise your armies theme for it though.

I think the savage orc is nicer, simply because I really don't like the brew. Paying points just for a chance of stupidity? Nah. I really don't like items that have a big chance of doing negative stuff on your most important model. If you fail the stupidity right at the moment your boyz need him, you're in trouble.

I take a Savage Orc Warboss, on Wyvern, with Shagga's Screamin' Sword, Collar of Zorga, and Imbads Iron Gnashas.

Absolutely rock, and surprisingly, very easy to control. No animosity, and when it comes to baiting, I can see and charge over units.

Why didn't I think of that before?

Charge OVER the zombies.....

I dont play O & G, but am a vet against them and have oft read the book.

Always liked a BO riding board with hvy best basher, kicken boots, best boss hat and enchanted.

5 ws 8 st 6 attackes with a 1+ armour 5+ ward seems so perfectly rounded it frustrates my empire senses...

I usually take a Blorc Warboss with Effigy of Mork, Spiteful Shield and Killing Blow. With Heavy Armour, and the Boar/Wyvern he's a defensive yet still capable fighter.
