EDIT: Please note my hosting company is soon shutting down, so most of the pictures in this thread will soon become little red X's. Sorry.

Hey chaps, I thought I'd start an irregularly updated thread here as I progress through painting my Elysian army.

Here's my army as it stood last week:

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/infantry/patrol.jpg

Now, this week's additions:

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/infantry/1.jpg

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/infantry/2.jpg

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/infantry/3.jpg

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/infantry/10.jpg

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/infantry/11.jpg

All of the secondary guys in the gun teams have hidden magnetic bases, so they can be popped off when they get inevitably bolter'd.

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/infantry/12.jpg

Next up, I've kitbashed the Elysian Sentinel kit and the Support Sentinel kit together to create an Elysian Pattern Support Sentinel.

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/sentinel/1.jpg

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/sentinel/2.jpg

In order to get the parts to fit correctly you have to cut up and flip the engine's exhaust.

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/sentinel/4.jpg

Of course no Sentinel is complete without magnets that allow it to look left-right and aim the missiles.

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/sentinel/3.jpg

Finally for this post, since I'm using Elysian HQ Officer kit for Junior Officers (I like the face sculpt on the HQ Officer), my real HQ officer has to be something special to make him stand out from the crowd.

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/officer/1.jpg

That's right, I converted him by giving him a plasma pistol! What a conversion!

But I wasn't happy with the pose.

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/officer/2.jpg

Better, but not good enough yet, more glue required.

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/officer/3.jpg

Even better! Still wasn't good enough though, so I snapped his arms off again and re-glued them one last time.

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/officer/4.jpg

Awesome don't you think? This is my favourite pose ever.

Okay I'm kidding, the actual conversion I've started on this guy is somewhat hidden, here's the real work:

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/officer/5.jpg

Yup he's a magnetically poseable infantryman to lead my army. Not only will it provide fun mid-game surprises when he strikes a dynamic pose of doom, I'll be able to swap out his weapons fit game-to-game, eg;

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/officer/9.jpg

"Alas, poor Yarrick"

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/officer/6.jpg

"What do you mean, we lost the battle?"

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/officer/8.jpg

"Honestly, you pray to Tzeentch for a few seconds, your master knocks you off the table, and you're a mutant before you hit the ground. Damn it!"

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/officer/7.jpg

So yeah, I'd like comments on the painting / conversions whatever, anything that can help me raise the quality of the army. Or you can just slag me off, either way's fun.

How delightful. Thanks for giving me the laugh of today with the commander poses. ;)

It's a really effective colour scheme, and it's very well executed too. Nice work!

Great paint job and I like the conversions and use of magnets (speaking as someone who magnetised the weapons on his Land Raider and hvy weapons Terminator). The only doubt I have is that the plasma gun just looks too big on the officer, but I guess there isn't any more suitable gun size.

Nice job with the magnets! The troops look nice if a bit solid in color but I like the practical/utilitarian look of it.

As wierd as it might sound. I really like the way you painted the boots. >.>

Nice one, even though they look too much like a normal, today army. (And how's that a bad thing? I can hear you shout.) There's not enough contrasting colours, but hey, it's your army.

(To be truthful, I truly like your force. Especially the magnetized Commander.)

Oh dear a magnet fanatic

It started off with me just magnetizing the Sentinel's heavy bolter/multimelta, and somehow ended with me putting 8 magnets into a 28mm infantryman. Beware magnet fever :D

The only doubt I have is that the plasma gun just looks too big on the officer, but I guess there isn't any more suitable gun size.

It does look a little large, I might try grabbing a plasma pistol from a metal guardsman, rather than a Space Marine.

Yup, if you don't wear plain grey you're not in the gang.

You should have seen my first test painted troopers (I'll put some pictures up of them later actually). The colourscheme was so busy, all the detail of the model was hidden... guess what, camoflage actually works :)

Thanks for the boots comment, I'm very pleased with the way this squad's boots came out and will be refitting this style onto the 25 men I've already painted. A little blend of dark greys works wonders.

Nice one, even though they look too much like a normal, today army.

I wanted a colourscheme that would evoke thoughts of modern armies. I felt that an OTT Space Marine type colourscheme would look out of place on these ultra-realistic minis.

Thanks. As an airborne regiment I'm pleased you can see a relationship.

I got my magnets from ebay... just did a search for 'rare earth' (Which is the name of the ultra-powerful mini magnets). It's important to get the rare earth type because they don't loose their magnetism over time unlike normal iron ones.

May your dice always roll sixes (Unless taking Ld. tests).

Here's an update.

I've been working on painting up my HQ squad, no WIP of those yet, but I've got these:

They're my Veteran squad, and I made some ForgeWorld GamesDay style oval bases for them.

I've used 10mm's, 5mm's, 3mm's & 1.5mm's in various places in the army. The officer is fitted with 3 x 1.5mm's for his arms & torso, and 1.5 x 1mm's for his head.

Why did I magnetize his HEAD?!?!

I can't claim credit for that idea unfortunately...

I got the idea from one of the bases on display with the Elysian shotgunners at gamesday, one of them was crawling along on a base like that. Will Hayes (The ForgeWorld sculptor who's made all the Elysian weapons & Sentinel amongst others) told me how it was done and voilla, it's actually a very quick little conversion and looks very cool I think.

Thank'ee Sir.

I tried a more complex paint scheme at first, but all it achieved was the concealment of the Elysian's fantastic details, my second scheme (This one) is a lot simpler yet I vastly prefer it.

Oddly, it takes me about four times as long to paint this 'simple' scheme due to all the layers of highlighting etc.

Did I already say your army looks awsome? It does...I still want it.

I've played some games with the 400 point force on page one. The list looks like:

6 man Junior Command Squad:
Officer with Lasgun/Krak grenade launcher & CCW
Plasmagunner
Medic
Vox operator
Guardsman with Lasgun
Commissar with Powerfist & Lasgun/Krak grenade launcher.

10 man infantry squad:
plasmagunner
vox operator
demo charge
7 x Guardsmen with Lasgun

10 man infantry squad:
plasmagunner
vox operator
demo charge
7 x Guardsmen with Lasgun

1 x Sentinel with Multimelta

2 x Tarantula turrets with Heavy Bolters

Total : 399 points IIRC.

Anyways, at 400pts this force ROCKS. Played 8 or so games with it, lost 2. Of those, one was lost because I chose not to deepstrike and ended up outgunned by some chaos marines who wouldn't come in close to play with my demo charge carriers, while the second one was lost because I decided to deep strike while playing against Tyranids... NOT A CLEVER IDEA!

Deep striking sentry guns rock, they nearly always make their points back... while demolitions charges are superb anti-marine weapons, the only problem being that if they miss, I'm likely gonna end up in big trouble!

I'm currently working on painting my way towards a 1000pts force for the Winter War, this will probably consist of:

67 Infantrymen.
3 Sentinels.
3 Tarantulas.
1 Cyclops demolitions tank.

Though my list isn't finalized at this point.

Thanks dude.

Every infantryman has a washer or penny in the base so that they magnetize to the display base (Though they've outgrown it now, I need to make a bigger one!).

For weapon swaps, all my gun turrets and sentinels have magnets so that they can turn the cab & change weaponry.

For the infantry, only my commanding officer has magnets actually inside him, and he has 8 magnets inside a 28mm figure (lol), plus the washer in his base so he magnetizes to the display tray.

It's a power weapon rather than a CCW, so I felt it needed to be a little larger than the little combat knives the other officers are carrying.

I might add that the HQ officer set is a better deal than the standard command squad set that's analysed there IMHO, because you get the extra cool HQ officer head (Which I'm using for all my officers, whether junior or senior), the elysian style powerfist, and a plasmagunner* instead of a meltagunner, all for exactly the same price.

*Plasmagunners are harder to get hold of than meltagunners, because meltagunners are also available in the meltagun squad set.

Okay here's a little tutorial on how to do 40k 'crawling infantry' bases:

You will need two 25mm circle slottabases, and one 25mm square base (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/07dec/1.jpg)

Cut the first base like so. (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/07dec/2.jpg)

Spotted how to do it? Good, now do the second one. (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/07dec/3.jpg)

Line them up and glue them together like this. (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/07dec/4.jpg)

Now fill the gaps left with Green Stuff. File/Cut the Green Stuff to match the base as close as possible and you're done! (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/07dec/5.jpg)

Three out of three Gnoblars with a head on a stick recommend it! (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/07dec/6.jpg)

Hope that helps.

Hey Chaos and evil,

I was thinking, when I say thinking I mean dreaming, about starting a small Elysian force but if its ok i'd like to ask a few questions, they may have been answered before but I haven't read the whole 6 pages. Anyway;

how is the resin to paint/build?
does it need much cleaning

Thanks,

You can expect a lot of flash, so cleaning it up will take a while. You also have to scrub all the parts with a toothbrush & soapy water to get rid of the mould-protection oils. After priming it paints like any other material *Use car primer though, it sticks better to resin*

Is it easy to 'adjust' like plastics. i.e. battle damage, chanign positions etc.

Easier. Resin becomes very flexiable when warm (Dip it in a mug of boiled water) and then stays in position when cooled (Dip it in a mug of cold water!).

The resin material is a little tougher than plastic, not as tough as metal, so conversions are quite easy to do though may require a little force.

P.S. their looking great so far.

Cheers!

My god these guys re so cool
Thanks dude!

just for taking elysians and wanting to use flyers but no valkries?

I've only got a single flyer in my 2000pts list... I'm not convinced that Valkyries are points-efficient enough to do the damage I need them to atm, wheras the Vulture's 8 frag missiles & nose-mounted heavy bolter every turn look real tempting :)

Thanks for the info.

I'm having doubts about starting a force as it would be fine if they were detailed marines etc which cost points but they are pretty cheap point-wise so that means a lot of them but they'd die just like normal guardsmen and I couldn't bare having to take all those lovely models off the table. Although I might get a small detachment (say a unit in a valkyrie (sp?) and take a lot of time painting them up then in maybe 2-3 years have a nice force, well about 5 years because FW will no doubt come out with even better models and take all my poor unsuspecting money.

Anyway good luck and have you posted your 2000pts list anywhere? I'd like to have a look at it so see the kind of size it works at.

Peace out

I havn't posted my 2000pts list anywhere yet since I havn't decided on it at the mo, I want to get a few more games under my belt.

My 500pts combat patrol cost 143 pounds, or thereabouts. You could do it cheaper (Taking out the two tarantula turrets and giving the officers/sergeants pimped up weapons loadouts instead saves 28 quid, for example), but there's a point at which if you cut too much combat power in exchange for 'elite' weapons loadouts the guard becomes ineffective.

It's pretty killy, and being imperial guard, very entertaining when they die in droves under a hail of close combat attacks from whatever they failed to kill with rapid fire in the previous round...

BTW can elysians always deepstrike , cause I read that somewhere but I'm not sure about it

There are some old rules for using Elysian guard which allowed all sorts of funky stuff, like deep striking half the army automatically on turn 1, rerolling all deep strike scatters, crazy cyber-enhanced veterans, etc...

They're not the same as the rules for the ForgeWorld Elysians however, which can be found in Imperial Armour Volume 3, which is basically a standard 4th edition IG list with one or two minor tweaks, rather than a List Of Doom(tm).

I'm like'en the new vets! great poses, did you convert them much or are they pretty much standard special weapon squad 'box' from forgeworld?

I used two Meltagunner kits to get enough lying down legs.

I'm not sure whether to say I converted them or not, since the gun/arms for the veteran sergeant came from an infantry squad set, as did the grenade throwing arm & single-handed gun holding arm on the other non-meltagunner Veteran.

I think the technical term for that is not Converting but 'kitbashing' :p

EDIT: I did use a little Green Stuff at the shoulders on some of the vets actually to get the poses right, but the operative word is 'little'. I don't regard it as a conversion.

The spare standing up legs have been put into my elysians bitz tray, along with quite a few other infantrymen I have left over from other kits which I havn't fully used, I should be able to make up several extra infantry squads from leftovers when it comes to starting towards 2000 points.

I like the sniper squad and the heavy bolter team ,well i like them all :D but any info would be cool

Sniper team, the big downside is that one of the lying down snipers is pretty much single-pose. He's the one who has his visor raised and is aiming down the scope.
How annoying is that, one of the very few elysians with his visor raised revealing his eyes, and he's the only one-pose guardsman in the entire range! Well, him and the Sentinel pilot :)
Other than that drawback, one of the other two snipers is intended to be put in a reloading pose, meh that's s'okay if you like that sort of thing, but I would have rather had the option to have every sniper actually holding their rifle and needless to say I've converted mine to do just that.
Overall the sniper kit is very sweet looking as with all Elysians, but it's also one of the more limited kits as regards posing potential so I'd only recomend getting a single set unless you like doing lots of conversions.

The Heavy Bolter squad has to be my favourite Elysian kit, possibly my favourite ForgeWorld kit (The Trygon might just pip it). You get three fully cusomizable mini-dioramas, including an equipment drop-pod & several spare ammo boxes. For sheer personality this set gets two thumbs up from me.

With that combination I predict.... Space Marine Scouts!

I've been thinking that once my 2000pts list is done, I'll make a second setup that'll let me enter them in official GW tourneys, which'll involve tanks, lascannon HW crews, etc. That'll be a while away yet though.

I do plan on putting together one of those nifty Sentinel/Defiler/Landraider-based knight titans next month (after I reach 1000pts of painted Elysians, I fancy a break from guardsmen for a little while), and will probably use my Elysian colourscheme for it since I have no other 40k forces to field it with...

I doubt it, unfortunately the Elysian Heavy Weapons (Especially the Heavy Bolters) are more like mini-dioramas than just weapons.

Still, thinking about how the sprues come, there's no reason why they couldn't do it with the current molds... maybe try emailing them?

BTW: I might have a set of 3 Elysian Mortars for sale for the right price (Ended up with two sets yet the army list only allows one squad of them).

Here's a couple of pictures from the last game I played with them (Hey, it's now a playing blog too!);

Sentinels mate for life, should one get sniped by a Dark Angel with a missile launcher hiding in the woods, the other will defend the fallen carcass to the death. (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/04jan/6.jpg)

"Well, it was great being a Veteran, until our General told us to get charged by Dark Angels and die in a single turn. Grrr." (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/04jan/7.jpg)

Also, I've got some WIP shots of my Missile Support Sentinel, it needs some finishing on the detail, then weathering;

shot 1 (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/04jan/8.jpg)

shot 2 (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/04jan/9.jpg)

shot 3 (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/04jan/10.jpg)

shot 5 (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/04jan/13.jpg)

If you see this during battle... well, you're actually about to win, since Sentinels aren't renowned as close combat Gods, no matter how many phallic symbols you festoon them with... (http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians/04jan/11.jpg)

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians-06/feb23/2.jpg

Two sample pages (Missing the titles so I could get a half-decent resolution capture) from my WIP, CODEX ELYSIANS.

The pics look tons better on the page, thankfully, since each one is a high-res capture shrunk down to the size of a large postage stamp (BTW noone tell the government I put pennies under my model's bases, apparently defacing the picture of the queen is treason and leaves me subject to the highest penalty in the land... a light slap on the wrist!).

It's a little simplified from my actual technique, but it gives an idea of how taking a long while to paint can make a really good looking model look much worse with the addition of paint... :D

His arm is certainly on *one* of the Elysian sprues... I think that particular one came from a Junior Officer set, but I may be wrong, either way my Vets have parts from at least 4 different sets, in order for me to get the poses I was after.

Now, for today's update, I'm due to play a 1500 point game against someone with an Eldar Revenant Titan... I'll take some pics while I'm there (Maybe you might spot a new unit I've converted up too....)

thats a great army. Chaos. you make me want to do a IG army. (unfortunately IG are one of my least favorite armies. the reason for this i do not know) its really cool how your paint scheme is reminiscient of that of modern day armies.
Cheers mate!
-Scorpio

Cheers dude, I wanted a paint scheme which could concievably really exist, while at the same time being stylized, I think it worked out well.

Originally my paint scheme was going to be an almost total replica of the British Army's DPM camoflage pattern, like this:

http://www.planetquake.com/elf/pics/elysians-06/feb23/3.jpg

http://www.planetquake.com/elf/pics/elysians-06/feb23/4.jpg

However, I think that pattern is now likely to only ever be seen on the pages of Codex Elysians, rather than on an army, since I felt it ended up obscuring a lot of the fantastic detail of the FW miniatures.

Cheers for the painting guide - white undercoat hurts me though...

Excellent stuff.

You find you are forced to be neater in painting because mistakes show more obviously, and that's never a bad thing.

I use white for everything except Metals... or Black Templars.

The paint guide rocks ,I might try it on my Elysians out of intrest will you be adding the new Elysian stuff to your army ?

I guess that depends if I can find any more Elysians in my bitz box.

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians-06/feb24/1.jpg

Honestly I havn't a clue where I'd find any more.

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians-06/feb24/2.jpg

I've looked carefully but I can't find any more sentinels either, and I swear I had like fifteen of various armies (Some not FW) sitting in my drawer.

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians-06/feb24/3.jpg

This bitz box is half-full with grav jets and shoulderpads (Should I decide to add them to anything, I'm not sure what army they'd best suit though).

http://elf.planetquake.gamespy.com/pics/elysians-06/feb24/4.jpg

So yeah, after getting those out of the way, I'm interested in getting some lascutters & scanner. I'm not too interested in the shotgunners since I don't think I'd ever get a chance to use them (My Vets are Meltagun tank-hunters). I might get a single pack of respirator helmets, but only to convert my aircraft's pilots to be Elysians with a simple head swap.

I think because when drop troops land they release their grav-shutes, because they're quite heavy, so why buy them if it isn't logical. But that's just what I think.

Because they're not painted yet, sorry!

KnightofUltramar is also correct in that Elysians do not actually fight while wearing their drop chutes, they're quickly discarded after the drop, and if he survives the battle, the trooper goes back and picks up his grav-chute in preparation for the next drop.

Railgunner

Here are the costs for the army without the grav chutes:

HQ Command Squad - 20 pounds.
2 x Infantry Squad - 70 pounds.
1 x Commissar - 7 pounds.
1 x Sentinel armed with Multimelta - 18 pounds.
2 x Heavy Bolter Tarantula Turrets - 28 pounds.
1 x Elysian Weapons pack (I wanted the plasma guns) - 12 pounds.

Total: 155 pounds.

I find this is a very balanced list, capable of taking on a wide variety of enemies, from hordes(Heavy bolters & lasguns), vehicles (Multi-melta sentinel) and even MEQ's (I had 3 plasma guns in the army). Plus with a commissar in there with a powerfist, they have a little CC ability too.

If you wanted to make it cheaper, you could drop the Elysian Weapons Pack (Use the grenade launchers that come with the squads instead of plasma), and drop the tarantula turrets, beefing up the junior officer's wargear instead (His current wargear setup costs just 4 points!). That'd bring the total cost down to 115 pounds... but it wouldn't be as good a list IMHO.

If you have the arms designed for holding the Meltagun, then it's very easy to give him a plasmagun instead... but coming straight out of the 10 man infantry set, it's very difficult... I did one conversion using the grenade launcher trooper's arms, and it came out pretty terrible IMHO.

Thanks for the painting guide, very well done and laid out in a logical manner. I also like the small palette which helps to get figures out faster. However I think an Elysian Drop Troop Army will be beyond my means for a while, if my wife found out she would make me sell the ones I have traded for.

Aye, I was going for a slightly minimalist style, more realistic than most GW models tend to be painted (All bright colours and extreme highlights), which I think suits the Elysian models well.

The elysian heads are truescale, so significantly smaller than the heroic scale cadian ones, maybe getting on for half the size. They'd look daft on a cadian.

Oh boy! My favorite original Elysian thread is back. Chaos, do the support sentinels or the stormies. At least that's where my vote lies.

Sorry to make you go so far back in history, but did you ever finish that Elysian Codex? There are loads of guys out there now with Elysian armies. Captain Brown has some gorgeous models that he could probably donate some pics for you book, so does Pompeylad.

As much as I wanted a elysian army, alas, ended up going another direction. I have a mech grenadier/stormie list now. Some day I'll sell it and finally get those awesome Elysian models...someday. Though, I still plan to try out the D-99 list using my models. I even magnetized all my sentinels so I would always have the heavy bolter option for down the road. Thanks for the magnetmadness!

Though, I still plan to try out the D-99 list using my models. I even magnetized all my sentinels so I would always have the heavy bolter option for down the road. Thanks for the magnetmadness!

The D-99 list is sheer special-weapons madness. :D

Stunning figures!! Keep it coming!

Where should I post photos of my Elysians, in this thread or start another, I'm not looking to hijack anyones thread!!

If I may ask what is the D-99 list? I can not find it with the search function????

Excellent Army. I do Elysians as well. My Storm troopers are Kasrkin converted. The Taros book sort of implies that the Storm troopers are attached from Storm Trooper Companies and I have done them as Kasrkin (i.e. not from Elysian regiments) to get the extra size increase over the Forgeworld Elysians. From your post about Plasma pistols, I use the Cadian Hardened Vet Upgrade set for the shotgun bodies (as I see you have) and the bare heads for conversions. There is the excellent Plasma pistol on that spru which I use for my Elysians; are you changing to that pistol? It's the correct scale.

Now to do what I joined up to do...

Brilliant models CaE. Really inspiring stuff. I mainly joined this forum just so I could congratulate you on your superb job. It's really made me want to start Elysians as a second army. Sadly that isn't possible at the moment... *tips wallet upside down and looks sad as nothing comes out*. However it has been a real pleasure to see your models and I hope you do another update *gets down on knees and begs the computer*.

After four months away doing busy real life things (And other gaming projects too), I have returned to my beloved Elysians and have painted... two and a half models.

Special Weapons Squad in progress:

I'm trying out a new style (Grey basecoat).

Does it look worse or better than my older models?

Wow, cant add much constructive except to say keep this up. A great force and inspirational. Cant wait to see how your Stormtroopers turn out. I was thinking of adding armour to the Elysians and giving them a new helmet for mine ...... but thats a way off at the mo.

Well the new troops actually look a little smoother to me than the originals yet they still have the same overall feel. I think all ganged up they will blend together nicely.

Wierd, I took these pictures during odd lighting conditions and they came out looking like they've been painted in a post-impressionist style.

I've notice your avatar a few times and now I've seen the actual army that its from. Got some pretty sweet Elysians here, especially the magnetic ones. I also like the little quotes and titles that you use for you pictures, they make it humorous.

And seeing your 'bucket-o-Elysian parts' made me drool.

one qustion do you use the rules from the taros campaign book or from the anphillion project book ???

Chaos and Evil
04-11-2007, 00:13
Definitely the Taros Campaign book... I far prefer having the Guard as faceless numbers rather than a few elite Veterans... if I wanted that I'd bring a space marine force to the fight instead! :D

Have you given both lists a try in your games? If so what are your thoughts comparing the two?

Chaos and Evil
04-11-2007, 10:36
Neither list is a particularly competative list (Unless you come up against some very specific opponents), but that of course is not the main reason for collecting Elysians. :)

The D-99 list only starts to work if you take lots of small squads, crammed to the gills with Special Weapons... even moreso than the Taros list, the D-99 must hit like a sledgehammer when it arrives to stand a chance, as it doesn't have the numbers of the Taros list to keep coming all game.

A Vulture Gunship equipped with large-template bombs is pretty much a must... without it you're going to have a hard time dealing with horde type armies.

Scratch that, you're going to have a hard time dealing with almost any army that isn't the Deathwing. (Elite armies are quite vulnerable to Elysians due to their proliferation of demolitions charges / special weapons).

I'm afraid it's not legal to share the rules for Elysian Drop Troopers over the internet.

The rules for this army can be found in Imperial Armour Volume III, which is available to buy from Forgeworld: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/QUATERMASTERS_STORE_IMPERIAL_ARMOUR_BOOKS_12.html

The models are also available online from Forgeworld (They're not sold in GW stores) : http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_ELYSIAN_DROP_TROOPS.html

Many people use the Elysian models with standard IG rules.

Well, after seeing all the Elysians, I was thinking "hrm, maybe get some to chuck in as support for my monster project..." then I talk myself out of it.

Having seen this, C&E, you've just broken my resolve and forced me to order many quid worth from a company that won't respond for at least two weeks to the fact I made an order.

Despite that, you broke my will, and I did it.

Curse you and your persuasive pigments.

Hi there Chaos. Great army BTW. Quick question for you. I'm thinking about doing some of the new Forgeworld Death Guard, but I'm a little worried about the fact that their resin. What do you reccomend to file them with and is resin that dangerous?

Chaos and Evil
04-03-2008, 13:51
What do you reccomend to file them with

I do not recommend filing resin without proper safety gear (A decent breath mask at the least).

Instead of filing I recommend you cut the model into shape with a stanley knife.

Resin is not dangerous as long as you don't file it, or drill into it (I've done both for this log, but only with the proper safety precautions).

why wasnt ur army featured in firebase6?

I had a lot going on in real life and when it came to a choice between finishing the SG section or featuring my own army, I chose the SG section.

My Elysians will be featured in the next issue though.

BTW whers that comissar from?

He's a GW commissar, converted with Elysian bits.

I don't think they sell him anymore.

What are the exact dangers. I have done a little bit of everything. I did do some sanding in the garage though.
