Ello chaps.

Lately, there has been a huge surge in interest over Chaos, and specifically, the Legions. There are many people supporting or using the counts-as rule to get their legions, but for many people this is not enough to represent everything properly. Now, I’m not going to go into that again, but I believe that it is possible to include fun, fair and fluffy Legion rules without making them overcomplicated or unbalanced.

Bear in mind these have not yet been tested, and are the results of a few minutes speculation.

Chaos: Legions

There are 2 degrees of worship to the God’s. Most Chaos Marines worship them as a pantheon, and focus on one God before each battle to recieve a small blessing. However, some choose to forsake all but one of the God’s, and join their Cult. These are invariably the most zealous, unhinged and dangerous warriors within the armies of Chaos, and there is no return from the path they tread.

Marks of Chaos are gained via an Icon of Chaos, which have already been covered.
Some units may join a Cult of Chaos, which affects the whole squad in a similar way. Every model bears the mark so no Icons are needed, and you may not combine a Cult and a Mark on the same model.

Cult of Khorne- The squad recieves +1 Attack, +1 WS and Furious Charge.
Cult of Nurgle- The squad recieves +1 Toughness, Blight Grenades and Feel no Pain.
Cult of Slaanesh- The squad recieves +1 Initiative and may purchase Sonic Weaponry.
Cult of Tzeentch- The squad recieves a 4+ Invulnerable save, and may purchase Inferno Bolts. Any Champion or Lord becomes a Sorcerer and may buy Psychic powers.

All members of a Cult are Fearless. Any unit with access to an Icon also has access to the Cult. The cost of a Cult depends on the squad which purchases it.

Daemons

Daemons of different God’s have different abilities, and so Daemons may be associated with a Particular God.

Bloodletters- Cult of Khorne. +8pts per model
Plaguebearers- Cult of Nurgle. +7pts per model
Daemonettes- Cult of Slaanesh, recieve an additional combat weapon and Fleet of Foot. +6pts per model
Horrors- Cult of Tzeentch, recieve a Bolter with Inferno Bolts and BS3. +9pts per model
Bloodthirster- Cult of Khorne, recieves Wings. 50pts.
Great Unclean One- Cult of Nurgle, recieves +2 wounds. 75pts
Keeper of Secrets- Cult of Slaanesh, recieves an additional combat weapon and Fleet of Foot. 30pts
Lord of Change- Cult of Tzeentch, recieves Wings and becomes a Psyker. You may purchase up to 2 powers for him. 35pts.

Any Slaanesh Cultist with a Bolter/Combi/Twin Linked Bolter may replace the Bolter section with a Sonic Blaster for 5pts.
Any Slaanesh Cultist with an Autocannon or Reaper Cannon may replace it with a Blastmaster for free
Any Slaanesh Cultist with a Meltagun may replace it with a Doom Siren for 10pts
Any Tzeentch Cultist with a Bolter/Bolt Pistol/Combi/Twin Linked Bolter may purchase Inferno Bolts for 6pts.

Lords may join the Cult of Khorne for 30pts, Nurgle for 45pts, Slaanesh for 15pts or Tzeentch for 25pts

Sorcerers may join the Cult of Nurgle for 45pts, Slaanesh for 15pts or Tzeentch for 25pts

Chosen may join the Cult of Khorne for 8pts per model, Nurgle for 10pts per model, Slaanesh for 4pts per model or Tzeentch for 10pts per model.

Terminators may join the Cult of Khorne for 10pts per model, Nurgle for 13pts per model, Slaanesh for 5pts per model and Tzeentch for 8pts per model.

Possesed may join the Daemonic Cult of Khorne for 8pts per model, Nurgle for 10pts per model, Slaanesh for 3pts per model and Tzeentch for 10pts per model. They recieve the same upgrades as Lesser Daemons. If you roll the same ability as a your Cult (eg. Khorne Possesed roll Furious Charge) you may reroll the dice.

Dreadnoughts may join the Cult of khorne for 20pts or Slaanesh for 15pts. A Dreadnought in the Cult of Nurgle recieves Blight Grenades and +1 Armour to all sides for 35pts, and the Cult of Tzeentch provides Inferno Bolts and a 4+ Cover save for 25pts.

Bikers may join the Cult of Khorne for 8pts per model, Nurgle for 17pts per model, Slaanesh for 6pts per model or Tzeentch for 9pts per model.

Raptors may join the Cult of Khorne for 6pts per model, Nurgle for 9pts per model, Slaanesh for 6pts per model or Tzeentch for 8pts per model.

Havocs may join the Cult of Khorne for 6pts per model, Nurgle for 8pts per model, Slaanesh for 5pts per model or Tzeentch for 8pts per model.

Rightiho, that covers the Legions of the Gods. These are totally unrestrictive, and its entirely up to the player whether he mixes his Cult with another. All the basic Daemons have some stats too. Now for the Undivided chappies...

Any unit may be upgraded to one of the Undivided Legions. They still retain all their options and special rules, but may not join a Cult. They may carry an Icon as normal.

Night Lords- The unit gains Night Vision and Terror Tactics. Any unit which is beaten in combat suffers -1 to their Leadership. This is -2 if they are outnumbered. 4pts per model.

Alpha Legion- The unit gains Infiltrate and Move Through Cover. Reserves may use the Outflank rule. 4pts per model.

Iron Warriors- The unit may replace its Special Weapon option for another Heavy Weapon and are Siege Specialists. They are Fearless when defending or contesting an objective. 4pts per model.

Word Bearers- The unit is Fearless and comes with a free Icon. Lords and Sorcerers recieve a 4+ Invulnerable Save. 3pts per model, 15pts for Lords or Sorcerers.

Hurrah!
Hopefully these are somewhat balanced, but there are rules for 8 of the 9 Legions, since Black Legion can be represented well enough with the current Codex. There are absolutely no unit restrictions, no changing with the Force Organisation and these could fit onto a double page in the current codex, so its not exactly impossible to fit them in.

Iron Warriors were a very nasty case in the last codex, and I hope I've balanced them enough. They can pack heavy firepower and are impossible to shift once they get near an objective, but to actually get near it they have to move first.

What do ya reckon? Off my nut and badly unbalanced, or actually pretty decent? Of course, any changes regarding balance will be appreciated, and I will change the first post to include them.

Incidentally, please keep this on track. I don't care if you think they should have Legions or not, I only want feedback on what I've put forth.

(For the record, I play Night Lords. These rules have not been a covert attempt to beef up my power level)

Hey, I really like these. I'll see if I can get a friend to house-rule them.
