View Full Version : GalenArtorius' Omni-Log (of Doom)

An advance warning - this will be a VERY random plog :)

Now that I have started the ToFP with my Empire forces, I thought that it would be better to end my other long neglected plogs and put everything into one big bag of tricks.

Despite my best intentions, I couldnít seem to keep my attention focused on my Marines, and my Death Korps disappeared after several frustrated attempts to get my scheme right. I joined the Tale so that I was concentrated on finishing a specific force, but in my spare time I will do irregular painting on anything that has caught my attention. Hopefully, this will also mean that some of the naked metal that I have sitting around will finally be painted!

Here are just some of the minis that I have accrued over the years. I recently stripped a lot of the frankly horrible paint schemes form the older ones so that I can give them proper bases and a decent scheme. Some are still waiting for a bath in oven cleaner (like the Cawdor in the bottom left of the first picture), so where I can I will take before and after pictures to see if my skills have improved!

Iíll start off with updated pictures of my Baneblade (last seen in my deceased Death Korps plog).

I have started the weathering process, but still need to do dirt, mud, rust etc. I was quite pleased with how the paint chipping came out. I used Charadon Granite for a dull NMM metal rather than use metallics, and I think it turned out quite well (I love Charadon Granite and Badab Black - just so you know). Hereís a close up.

Also last seen in my Death Korps plog, Commissar Thorne (love the mini) - who will most likely be a part of an Inquisitorial retinue.

Now for a filthy xenos. Another mini that I really like, this Farseer will lead my Iybraesil craftworld forces when they get painted.

Copied the freehand icon on his cloak from an excellent mini on CMON - so sorry for the plagiarism if it was yours (imitation is the best form of flattery is my excuse!).

And now for some Fantasy. I managed to resist going out and buying a whole load of the new Vampire Counts stuff, but Vlad was to good to miss...

Also finally bought Marianna Chevaux, now known as Beldam Marchessa Rothschtein (and not quite finished yet)

That's a fair variety you've got going there. The weathering on the baneblade is very nice and your work on the farseer is impressive- especially like the lining on the edge of his cloak. Good start to log mate- I'll be keeping an eye out to see what you do next.

I really like the way you're doing the weathering, I might just have to borrow the idea. A small query, do you paint the Charadon Grey in then go around it with Badab Black or do you do it another method?

Great work on the other miniatures too, the choice of using green on the Commissars' Bolt Pistol and Vlad's paintjob generally is top notch.

It'll be great to see those Necomunda metals painted up! I relish those Cawdor gangers especially. :)

Thanks for checking out my stuff guys.

@ Mr Feral - Sorry - misdirected you by saying about Badab Black. That was just a general statement of my love for the new inks! The weathering is Chaos black painted on the edges to define the chipped paint, then Charadon Granite over top (leaving some of the black showing at the edges). I'm using black ink for the 'drips' and going around the bolts, etc (as you can see in the close-up shot).

A little look at what is currently WIP on the painting table. Some more fantasy, this time it's High Elves. After browsing throught the WAR concept artwork I was inspired to paint up some of the Elves using their colours as a kind of guide. Also, these were bought about a decade+ ago, so deserve some love!

Swordmaster Champion close to completion. Blues and Whites as they are from Saphery, but went with a white cloak so that the Champion will stand out, and blue robes for a more muted overal appearance.

Classic Tyrion. Was tempted to paint him in in Red Period colours, but thought that the blues and whites would look better in the end.

Thanks for the weathering tip there!

Good progress on the High Elves too, the Swordmaster's cloak s really smooth. :)

First unit

Second unit

My (close to completely) finished Handgunners for the ToFP.

And here's what I'm working on for next month. A Unit of 5 knights with Great Weapons and my BSB (who is nearly complete already). The pirate is from Black Scorpion miniatures and will be finished for Talk Like A Pirate Day.

Decided to try and make some decorative bases with green stuff for my pirate captain. Used a paper clip and a pin to sculpt wood grain like a shipís deck. He will be accompanied by his faithful monkey and a chest oí doubloons (from Mordheim scenery sprue). I also tried to do large slab type cobbles on the base of the Freelancer Knight. These guys will be getting an undercoat tonight, along with the Nob that came with my WD.

I will be following this log with interest. It is evident your painting has improved drastically, and it will be great fun following your Empire troops, one of my favourite armies so far in the ToFP. Lovely dark, yet colourful colour scheme. Good luck, and I'll keep watching.

@ Fredmans - Thanks for the compliment. I think I have improved, but to be frank - I couldnít have got any worse! Youíll see what I mean when I show the pictures of my Cawdor gangers.

Some WIP for my pirate captain.

And the first WIP of the Nob from WD. Iím hoping to enter him in the B&C/Da Waaagh competition (but donít expect to win). I havenít painted greenskins in an age, but I have found this one a real pleasure to paint. The pic below shows the striping I have tried to use to define his muscles.

Hey there, I just wanted to let you know how much I like your baneblade! It looks great, I also really like the skin on your WIP nob.

Your first post scared me a bit, but I'm glad I overcame my fears and scrolled forwards, because you have some very cool looking minis! Keep it up. I hope you will continue to surprise us with random awesomeness.

Iím back. As I said in the ToFP, I am taking a lazy month with my Empire, as I was lucky enough to get some reinforcements for my Marines (thank you, GW, for making the new release the same week as my birthday!) that I will be painting as well.

First up, the Drop Pod WIP.

I also have a Land Raider Crusader undercoated and ready to start. Coming soon - More Terminators, a Vindicator, a second Dreadnought and I have also begun converting my Chapter Master in TDA.

For those who might have missed the ĎTalk Like A Pirate Dayí thread, here is my completed Pirate Captain and his small monkey friend.

Just to prove that my miniatures DO GET FINISHED (eventually) :)

Love the pirate and the monkey mate! What supplier is it from? Black Scorpion I presume?

15-10-2008, 11:54
Correct - Black Scorpion it is. I hope to get some more one day, I really like them.
