We all know what happened during the great heresy and when it happened, but how long did it last? a year or two? 10 years? 100?

anyone with an answer?

2 secs the BRB gives a good estimate.

its marked at the end of the age of strife to the begining of the age of the imperium. as the any general will attest speed is especially needed in war. im gonna guess about 1-10 years. if the emperor had a large amount of time between battles then horus would have had his ass handed in no time.

7-8 years...

Starts in 007.M31 and ends in 014.M31, based upon the bombing of Istvaan and Horus' death. Obviously the formative events and the mopping up actions (such as they are) go on for much longer either way.

Something akin to ten years.
Heresy begins with Istvaan (ish) and ends seven years after the Siege of Terra.

7 years after the Siege of Terra, or after 7 years at the Siege of Terra?

No, the end of the Siege of Terra is the end of the Heresy.
I think Kage2020 has it right.

I do...

Of course, if you're to get in with the theme presented in the Horus Heresy novels, it probably listed for an eon. :eyebrows: ;)

Do you have a source for the 007 start date? I've heard it before, but the claimant had based it on taking 7 year away from 014 because of a 2nd edition statement which had the Dark Angels fighting for that long before giving up and going back to Caliban, whilst Realms of Chaos: The Lost & The Damned put the Death Guard's warp jump to Terra (to join Horus) as taking place in the 3rd year of the Horus Heresy. (I'd always assumed the DA's 7 years of war to cover part of the Heresy and part of the Scouring)

Nope. It's just one on established timelines. The problem that comes from trying to balance the majority of the published material is that GW doesn't give a rats **** about things making sense, whether it's their chronology, the size of their ships, or whatever.

So, no. That's just the "accepted date," which is to say the best one that you can come up with given the 'fluff.'

When you think about it, even that timeline is a bit lame, but there we go.

Whatever twiddles your biscuit. (Which is to say, whatever dates you prefer. Those are the ones that for all intents and purposes I use for the moment.)

I've heard 20 years - but that included the Scouring.

Which would count as the "mopping up actions" that I mentioned. In which case the 13th Black Crusade is another part of those actions... So that's - what? - 10,000 years for the Heresy?
