The project? To get my lazy b*m moving and finsih painting all the minis in the cupboard!

I've been collecting minis since 1997 and I'm sure most of you can relate, have amassed enough minis to stock a small store. The unfortunate thing is that less then half are painted.

So a commitment to myself to change the fact around from less then 50% to greater then 90%. (Here's hoping anyway!)

I have 3 40K armies. DA, Nids and Eldar.
DA 3000 pts painted.
Nids 5000 pts painted.
Eldar a miserable 300 pts painted.
Of course there are plenty of unpainted ones to go as well for all 3 naturally.

So I'm starting on my Eldar first!

Truth be told, I have had the Eldar minis in my cupboard for well over 7 years now and never been able to paint them as I couldn't find a color scheme that I liked till I stumbled across an issue of white dwarf featuring the WH codex. There was a SOB army being painted by an Eavy Metal lady which looked really cool, and I nicked it an modified it for the Eldar!

Thanks for the kind words!

Yes, I believe I am a little loco as I do intend to paint all of them this way. Including my guardians which i believe I have about 38 unassembled ones at the moment.

Its one of the main reasons I'm posting them here, to have an addtional reason to hold me to paint regularly.

Another trick I use, is to stick in a conversion between models to keep things fresh. I find I prefer coverting more then painting.

My current conversion project is my avatar.

Found this avatar on CMON
http://www.coolminiornot.com/171688

And agree with the poster that the existing model is too static.
Decided to covert the current model to mimic the one on CMON

As I'm nowhere near as good sculpting, I will be breaking out the couping saw.

Here's the almost finished model needing GS.

As promised, some WIP shots on how I converted my "leaping Avatar" All thats left is to make a base thats appropriate for him.

I'm leaning towards a wraithbone and lave base. Which means I'll be needed to break out the GS.

As stated earlier, I was inspired by the fluid and action pose of the avatar on CMON. I needed to change the pose of the avatar to reflect his current legs akimbo static pose to one that is just plain more exciting! (I hope!)

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/1.jpg
The red lines are where I made cuts using a coping saw.

The ones around the groin region are cut to about 3/4 way through. This is to allow me to move/squeeze the legs closer together.

The left calf and foot was sawed off at the knee to allow a more backwards repostioning along with a knee bend.

The cut above the left knee was cut 3/4 though and then the gap forced wider via a screwdriver jamed in for leverage. This allows for the more pronounce knee bend I was looking for.

The foot peg was sawd off.

The left foot was sawed of to allow a pointing the toes repostioning latter.

The right foot was sawed 3/4 through and bent into postion to allow for the toe point look as well.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/2.jpg

As I was going for motion in the avatars pose, his loin cloth needed to be repostioned as well to go with the flow of his lunging/leaping forward motion.

I used my dremel tool to make a number of grooves along the back of the loin cloth to thin out the material. Then using pliers, bent the loin cloth to match the flow of his intended final motion.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/3.jpg

This shot shows the repositoning of the leg and loin cloth as described above!

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/6.jpg

This shot shows the pin hole drilled to slightly modify the torso to legs attachment. Once again, to give the impression of forward movement, I will be pinning the avatars torso and legs with a more pronounce back arch!

Cheers

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/7.jpg

This shot show the torso pinned to the legs showing the slight back arch I was talking about. This gives the impression of that forward lunge I was talking about.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/8.jpg

The red lines in this shot shows where I made saw cuts on the right arm of the avatar to convert it to hold a wailing spear of doom instead.

I sawed the conter balance pommel of the sword off.

I sawed the sword of where the hilt meets the hand of the avatar.

I made a 4/5 cut at the wrist of the avatar, and using the same screw driver as leverage technique, repositioned the fist to have the top of the fist more forward facing.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/9.jpg

This (Bad photo. Sorry about that.) shot shows where I hollowed out a cavaity in the right shoulder and dremelled out the collar of the avatar to allow the repositioning of the arm to a more upper arm raised high lunging/thrusting downward pose.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/10.jpg

This shot shows all the parts coming together to complete the coversion.

Final GS shot to come, and of couse the mini painted!

C&C Welcome!

Not to mention the fantastic Avatar conversion.

easternheretic
17-09-2008, 04:16
Thanks for the kind words!

Have been working on GSing the avatar to fill in the gaps.

Working on the avatar base so that he's "leaping through the air". A major pain making a base that won't result in a topple over once I'm hands off.

WIP of the bases for the scorpions and dire avengers I'm painting. A quick how I did it.

Will post pics on the above tomorrow. Need to Photoshop the image size and quality.

I have also been working on another major conversion project. Just had to have one inspired by the DOW female faseer after I stumbled across this on on the GW website!

http://fr.games-workshop.com/40k/eldars/modelisme/macha/index.asp

And I do have some WIP pics of this one!

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1020.jpg
I did not want to spend more cash buying the same models as the ones recommended on the GW site so I made do with the ones I had one hand.

Yes, it is a bit expensive using 2 minis to make one. I had these as spares when I bought a 2nd hand army from a friend anyway AND like I said earlier, I really wanted to convert the DOW farseer.

The Red lines inidcate where I made complete cuts with my couping saw.

From the farseer model, I get the fins for the back of the "new" farseer, her helmet, a shuriken pistol and 2 do dads to spiff up the robes for final details.

From the warlock model, I get the robes and feet and and additional blade for the singing spear.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1021.jpg

Red lines are where 1/2 way through cuts with my couping saw.

The reason is to make repositioning easier.

I was going for the pointy toed look, as I intend to have the model "float in mid air" while casting eldrich storm.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1022.jpg

Red lines are where I made complete cuts with the couping saw.
Filing was done to reshape the parts.

Using a female guardian torso I pinned/attached it to the warlock robes to make a complete body fo the "new" faseer.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1023.jpg

WIP pics of the body of the "new" Farseer. Pinned, filed/reshaped and glued together.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1024.jpg

I think the arms are eldar jet biker arms (I'm not sure, had them lying around in my bits box) The Sing spear came with the original sacrificial farseer model.

Red lines indicate where i made cuts with my couping saw.

The right hand was sawed off. The singing spear hand was reshaped/filed and attached to the right arm.

I was going for the bent/cocked wrist look with the spear pointing to the floor.

The left thumb was carefully cut using a pen knife and reattached/glued to the side to make it look like and open palm. Fingers were repostioned/bent via dunking the arm in boiling water to soften the plastic.

Mind you, if you which to give this technique a try, please be careful as I almost scalded my hands, and I did break of the fingers of my first attempt.

The shoulder areas of both arms were reshaped/filed so that they can fit in the sockets of the guardian torso.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1026.jpg

Pic of the farseer body with arms attached "floating" in a ring on a base to show hopefully, a farseer in mid casting of eldrich storm.

Will be GSing a ring of fire to give the visual representation of the casting of a psychic power.

Hopefully I'll have more WIP shots soon, I'm having a tough time getting the GS to come out right for the robes I'm sculpting on the farseer at the moment.

C&C welcome as usual!

Cheers

Well better late then never.

I finally found 1 image of the avatar with GS work on it. The rest were way to blured. Dang the inability to shoot decent pics!

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1012.jpg

The avatar with the GS added to cover up gaps and what not.

And as promised, some pics with the avatar on his base. As well as WIP of the base it self.

I'm hoping that the wratihbone looks like wraithbone and is recognisable as such. Nicked the idea from the limited edtion bonesinger GW came out with a while ago.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1010.jpg

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1011.jpg

All thats left is to paint the fellow. Which unfortunatly is not my favourite part of the hobby. Anyway, thats what this log is for. To nudge me in the direction of a balance between the saw and the brush!

C & C welcome as always!

Cheers

Nice converting! I'll be watching this.

A minor quick update.

A step by step on how I do my bases as promised.

As I've said earlier, that I had taken a few years break, it included GS as well. Since it was drying up and becoming useless, I had to use up and fast hence GS the bases.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1018.jpg

1) Place lump of GS on base.
2) Spread out GS all over base.
3&4) Oil smooth surface and rub GS over to smooth it out.
5&6) Using a screwdriver head, I press the base design into the GS.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1019.jpg

7) Contrary to popular belief, you can file/sand GS. It has to be dry off course. This is to smoothen out the surface after the design is pressed in.
8) File the sides of the GS to smoothen it out.
9) Cut of the metal tabs of the mini and make pointed triangles to press into GS.
10) Mount and glue mini onto the complete base.

C&C welcome!

Thanks! It sure is a pain painting this scheme, but the end result is worth it though!

Must be my sloppy painting style that makes painting eldar a real pain. I guess I'm too acustomed to painting Nids where a small mistake is no big problem and usually overlooked anyway.

But on the eldar, it stick out like a sore thumb.

Could I get some opinions/advice as well. I'm currently painting 5 dire avengers and am having a problem with a nice colour scheme for the helmet hair. I tried the usual hawk turquoise and liche purple that is on palette, but the purple just doesn't work.

Any suggestions?

On a more heavy and annoying note.

The avatar was coming along fine untill it fell of the table. Arggghhhh!!!! The horror and night mare!!!

Thank god for wooden floors though. Only chipped paint and not dinged metal.

Still, I'm contemplating more coversion work on the model now to balnce the stupid thing out.

Do you thing adding base details weighted with metal would work, or having a space marine impaled on the spear and using it as a prop up be more cool? (Falling forward was what had the avatar take a nose dive of my table in the first place.)

Cheers

These look great!!!

Your method for customizing your bases is very straight forward and results in a fantastic looking base.

Your Avatar also looks very good. I would love to see a pic of the Avatar painted.

Another quick update.

WIP shot of my farseer conversion.

I decided that I wanted my farseer to go helmetless.
I figured, what was the point of doing a DOW female farseer coversion and have her run around with the ghosthelm with only her mammary glands as the distinctive feature to differentiate gender.:wtf:

After a quick look through my bitz box, I realised I didn't have any suitable heads, let alone female ones. No surprise actually considering My other armies are space marines (no females), nids (no humanoids) and eldar.

I had a brain storm to convert the existing floppy haired fellow from the guardian box set to a more feminine looking head. Time for some plastic surgury literally and figuratively!

Pic below shows the step by step progress.

http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/IMG_1025.jpg

I started by filing the jaw and cheek bones down. The original face was way to angular and the jaw way to strong for a lady.

Making sure I had the cliche slant line from nose tip to chin tip (see 2nd pic) for the classic "beauty" line.

I added GS to the eyes and the mouth area to have some material to work with, and to remove the sunken eye look as well.

I had a night mare trying to sculpt the eyes and gave up. Settled for closed eyes instead with the cheap a** excuse that her eyes are closed to faclitate concentration while throwing powers around!

I next tackled the ears. Whats an "elf" with out the pointy ears. I decided to go for the Deedlit looking elf from the anime Record of Lodoss War. What better way to emphisize "elf" then distinctive pointy ears! :). After sculpting 3 pairs of ears and accidentally squashing them and driving me up the wall. I went for a different approach.

I dug up one of those old tabs that came attached to the space marine shoulder pad and filed it to the right shape and attached it to the head. Done, Nice and simple. No more squashed ear!

Finally, I sculpted the hair. Went for "flying" hair look to further emphasize the casting of powers with the powers swirling around her. Hoperfully...

Will have more WIP shots soon with head attached!

C&C Welcome as always!

Cheers

A quick update with my DOW inspired female farseer!

Finished GSing the robes and the sash to hide the gap in the waist.

All thats left is to add some more detials like talismans, gems and pouches to spruce up the model to the level worthy of an HQ model.

I think I'll paint her first before I attempt to finish the "ring of fire" I'm working on that sourrounds the model to give the impression of psychic powers flying about.

Its proving to be alot harder then I anticipated. The GS ends up way to rough and messy. *sigh*

Anyway a pic is worth a thousand words so heres a WIP with the farseer floating in the center.

Some very nifty greenstuffing! Very nice!

I think you've done a real nice job using non-traditional colours for the aspect warriors. Very original, and very well executed.

And your step-by-step guides are inspiring, way better than I could ever do :P.

Thanks for the kind comments and interest in my plog. It really makes it easier for me to continue painting.

Thank you for voting for my thread! I just noticed that too!

Been unable to paint as much as I would like to these past two odd weeks due to a surge in work load. The curse of the working stiff. *sigh*

AND the mucking about with the newly realeased Black Reach Box set. "Curse" you GW for making such great models. I really didn't want to buy new models until I am done painting my eldar, but the sirens call was just too strong. The weak weak will.... *double sigh*

Anyway, managed to finish my WIP avatar and the squad of 5 DA. Pics below!

My completed avatar minus his hair/tassle. Can't find it at the moment. May have to do a scratch build here. No great loss though as I'm not a fan of the tassle.

It has been along time since I have updated this thread. I have a multitude of reasons, but I have decided not to go into them. After all, we trawl the forums to read post to enjoy our hobby, not to read my cheap ass excuses.

Hopefully, what little I have to offer, can add to your enjoyment of the hobby, and act as sort of a reparations for my sporadic contribution.

Anyway, moving on.

First up, a WIP picture of my female farseer. Partially painted. The details are missing including the face, and I need to touch up the robes as well.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/w_farseer_wip.jpg

Next, is a WIP of a wraith lord conversion that I am working on. This conversion is part of a project, that I have going on with a group of my friends that are into 40K.

In an attempt to inspire some of guys in the gaming group to start converting, we were all asked to convert a model and come up with a background story as well as house rules to use in future up coming games.

After racking my brain for an idea of what to convert, I remembered reading a thread on this very forum about aspect warrior wraith lords. At the time I read it, I thought that it was a fantastic idea that I would someday one day attempt. So when this opportunity presented it self, I guess there is no better time then the present.

The rudimentary step by step will show how I went about converting the old metal wraith lord into a striking scorpion wraith lord.

First off, I wanted to change the pose of the wraith lord before I added any striking scorpion identifying features. The original model had a very boring legs apart and arms at the side pose. I wanted the wraith lord to look like it was striding purposefully forward swing it's chain sword in wide arcs hewing down all before it.

I started at the legs. I wanted the left leg to be the forward leg just about the propel the wraith lord forward, and the right leg straighten and just about to leave the ground.

I made cuts at where the red lines are to aid in the repositioning of the legs. I bent the left leg at the knees to bend the leg, and bent the right leg at the knees to straighten the leg. I widen the gaps at the soles of both feet to give the impression of the feet flexing in mid stride.

All that is left, is to fill in the gaps with green stuff.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/wraithlord1.jpg

Next I moved on to the torso and hips.

First off, I wanted to lengthen the torso as the original one made for a stumpy looking wraith lord. I also wanted to add a twist in the torso to exaggerate the motion of the swinging sword arm.

I made cuts where indicated by the red lines. Added pins to facilitate leg and hip attachment, and green stuffed a longer torso.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/wraithlord2.jpg

Next I attached the legs to the hips and filled in any gaps with green stuff.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/wraithlord3.jpg

Next I started work on the sword/right arm. I wanted the arm to be at the end of motion for a wide sword swinging arc.

Once again I made cut where the red lines indicate. I removed the thumb, fingers, flamer and flamer nozzle. The cuts made in the elbow areas are to facilitate the straightening of the arm. The cut made at the wrist is to facilitate the bending of the fist to cock the hand in an angle at the wrist to allow the sword when attached to be and extension of the arm.

I glued the sword hilt to the palm, and then glued the thumb and fingers in position to simulate a grasping hand.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/wraithlord4.jpg

In the above step, I needed a chain sword, and I made the sword from a buttress from the cities of death sprue.

Once again, I made cuts where the red lines indicate, and after much sawing, filing and carving i fashioned the blade of the chain sword. I attached a rod at the base to allow the attachment of green stuff to fashion the hilt of the sword, and attached the skull to act as the pommel.

The other pics show where green stuff has been added to mold finger and wrists and sword hilts. The nozzle of the flamer was added to simulate the bauble fond on the scorpion chain sword.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/wraithlord5.jpg

To be Continued. 6 pics limit and all that...

easternheretic
31-08-2009, 12:41
Next up, the left arm. I needed to add signature scorpion imagery to the model, and the scorpion claw would go along way in doing that.

So once again making cuts where the red lines indicate, I proceed to assemble the left arm of the wraith lord. The claw comes from the crushing claws of a carnifex and the left arm is the original wraith lord left arm.

Once the crushing claw has been removed from the nid arm, I proceeded to carve and file the claw into a semblance of eldar. I then attached it to the now hand-less left arm and filled in the gaps with green stuff.

Keeping in theme of adding scorpion imagery, I molded the signature back carapace like stucture of the scorpion on the wraith lord back pack with green stuff to further accentuate the scorpion features.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/wraithlord6.jpg

And finally, before complete assembly, the number one scorpion imagery is found on the head with the mandiblaster. So I move on to the head.

Once again cut where the red lines indicate.

Here I am cutting up 2 star cannons to make for a pair of rather large mandiblaster. I attach it to the sides of the wraith lord head. I fill in the gap at the back of the head to facilitate attachment to the body.

For the torso, you can see I have sculpted a receptacle for the sword swing right arm out of green stuff, and have also added a pin to strengthen the bond.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/wraithlord7.jpg

All that is left now is the complete assembly of the model followed by painting off course. I have also added the head tassel and some green stuff sculpting to the legs of the wraithlord to add to the scorpion imagery.

Now that the model is converted, can any of you come up with a plausible reason/fluff/story for aspect warrior wraithlords. After all, In the actual fluff, wraithlords are made from great heroes already, and I'm assuming that it includes aspect warriors as well.

I'll post painted pics for the model soon. One of the requirements of the group project is to have the models completed and painted by Sep 5th 2009.
As usual C&C is much welcomed and appreciated. Cheers!

fluff wise i think you are spot on.... perhaps this wraithlord simply got all SS spirit stones. or one of them was a particularly strong spirit of a SS exarch???

either way this is a fantastic conversion and really adds character to the model.

easternheretic
01-09-2009, 15:14
Thanks for the kind words! Much appreciated. Thanks for the input too!

Sounds like a pretty plausible idea. All the spirit stones on a wraithlord coming from a single aspect coupled with a die hard exarch of the same aspect may give it the aspect tendency. Add to that a spirit stone imbued with an exarch would give me the excuse to add exarch powers.

May seem a bit power gaming, but then it wasn't my idea to come up with house rules on a converted model. I'm more than happy to play with converted models with he normal rules. After all the real pleasure is seeing the model on the board in the field of battle!

I'm toying with the following house rules for the model.

+1 attacks conferred by the mandiblasters.
+1 attacks conferred by the chain saber.
Scorpion's claw
(Both the claw and the saber includes a shuricat each thus covering the rules that the wraithlord is armed with shuricat or flamer or twin of either. Obviously in this case it will be twin shuricats.)
And since it is a striking scorpion, both shadow strike and stalker exarch powers.
As it is a wraith lord, I'll retain wraith sight, monstrous creature, wraithblade (or wraith chainblade as it is) and fearless.
And since the model has the mount for a heavy weapon, I retain the choice of heavy weapon type.

Let say double the cost for exarch powers as the wraithlord is more combat effective then a single exarch. 20 pts for the wraith chainblade (a combo of wraithblade and chainsabres) No cost for the claw, after all you can't double str 10 anyway. Add this to the base cost of the wraithlord and the additional heavy weapon. Making for a pretty hefty grand total.

Now to finish the paint job and come up with fluff to complete the inaugural conversion plus fluff and rules project among friends!

Well I have managed to complete the conversion project among friends on time, including home made fluff which I have included below.

The clarions of war have been sounded.
A procession of bone singers glides silently, reverently towards the dome of tears.
Hearts leaden with abject remorse.
The time has come to awaken the dead from eternal rest.
Time to subject those who have earned peace, to suffer the throes war.
Cradling the precious cargo of spirit stones.
Stones imbued with the spirit of their brothers. Sisters. Warriors and Artisans
Even the mightiest heroes of yore have been called forth.
The bone singers proceed to the Glade of Heroes.
With tear stained cheeks unseen by elder eyes.
For who can see the window of ones soul when a helmeted mask adorns ones face?
The spirit of the lost are placed upon wraith bone statues.
One by one, the inanimate come to life.
A silent procession of the past! Silent ranks of Wraithguard!
The bone singers gaze towards The Tower of Void Sight.
Upon The Bridge of Transient Sight.
The farseer nods her head. Unseen to all below. A slight trembling.
The bone singers proceed to the most ancient alcoves of the abode.
The remaining stones contain the most revered, the mightiest.
The wraithbone constructs, the most lovingly crafted tower over the bone singers.
Wraithlords one and all!
A slilent prayer and hymn for the dead and living. The past and the present.
With the dieing echoes of the final hymns but a whisper in the wind.
The wraithlords are adorn with spirit stones.
The wraithlords march.
The clarions of war have been sounded.
May they forgive us for what we have done.
May our tears be a salve upon our souls!

Hamael Scorpius was one lost to the path of warriors. Both revered and feared by the citizens. For an eternity of strife, an eternity of war, was all that was available to him. Forever to tread the path of the striking scorpions.

Hamael Scorpius! Exarch of the striking scorpions.

Legends speaks of his many deeds in defence of his craftworld. Legend speaks of his passing. For the battle was fought with the ancient enemy upon a lost world. A world of shattered rocks and crumbling cliff faces into boiling seas of lava.

It is in an ocean of fiery orange that he perished.

Locked in mortal combat with a foul demon prince of chaos, astride a foul creation of chaos. The webway portal was still open! Pulsing, calling. Kaeru Gero, the foul frog like steed at behest of its lord and master bounds towards chaos prize! The demon prince laughs.

Thrust, slashes, parries, dodge. Hamael Scorpius battles the demon prince. Time running out. For if the demon prince gains entry to the webway, all is lost! A downward thrust of his chainsabre. A severed spine. Kaeru Gero plummets to a sea of fire.
His master raises an eyebrow? “Why hast thou done that? You may have stopped me this time. But I am of warp, and can and will return. You are mortal and are now dead.” Hamael Scorpius sheathes his sword looks at the demon prince and utters these words as molten rock engulfs steed demon and elder. “It is my nature.”

Hamael Scorpius’s spirit stone was retrieved for in the instant the demon prince was returned to the warp, what left of his minions were easily dispatched.

Hamael Scorpius still fights on. When called upon, his spirit stone adorns a wraithlord. As he was lost on the path to the striking scorpions and was an exarch for untold and uncountable eons, his spirit stone reconfigures the wraithlord construct to take on the prowess and visage of a striking scorpion.

As usual C&C is welcome!

Next blip on my auspex. My nids have just got a massive influx of genestealers courtesy of the new space hulk box set! So the eldar will take a back seat for a while. All those new models have got me itching to paint nids again.

First nid will be the "new" plastic carnifex that I have had converted for a while but haven't got a round to paint. Those no time like the present. Next, the new stealers!

I've finished my first plastic fex! I've gone for the uber dakka fex with both barbed strangler and venom cannon combo. Enhanced senses for the improved BS is a must of course. All thats left to do is to flcok the base and add the sand!

For the bio weopons, I grafted 2 barbed stranglers one from teh new fex box and one from the plastic warriors sprue to an o;d epic hierodule body to make an impressively large BFG. I did the same for the venom cannon as well using 2 old metal 2nd ed warrior venom cannons and the plastic venom cannon from the warrior sprue.

Pics as promised!
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/fex3.jpg
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/fex3weapons.jpg

Here are some pics of my old 2nd ed fexs as well from my nid army.
One armed with a barbed strangler from the plastic warrior sprues and some addtional scything talons from the ravener model and a classic screamer killer fex.
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/fex1.jpg
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/fex2.jpg

And here is a WIP shot of another fex this time armed with twin devourers! Plus the new genestealers from the space hulk box set. The reason for a return to the nids and a pause in eldar painting. Don't bother looking for the brood lord, its not in the pic as I haven't removed it from the sprues yet, and the more observant will notice that there are more stealers in the pics than there are available from the box. I traded some termies for the extra.

Very nice eldar army. Lots of great ideas and clever use of bits (I love your ss wright lord), although some areas could get a little bit more attention (like avatar’s green stuff spear shaft). I admire that you take your time to take a shot after every step and describe your progress. Keep up the great work!

All too true about the GS on the avatar. One of the most annoying thing about converting is that when I look back at my older stuff, I'm not happy. It could always do with more details, smoother etc. Same goes with painting too. Smoother transition, clean crisp lines tec.....

Unfortunately trying is the only way i know how to learn, I can only hope my GS and painting and any other skill can improve.

Thanks for the kind words AND feedback though. Much appreciated.

Just out of curiousity: it seems like you intend to use the SH genestealers in normal 40k games. What do you do about the bases? They don't fit on normal sized ones and I would have thought that it's a disadvantage to have them all on bigger bases.

And congratulations on your wraithlord conversion! I always liked the old model and thought it to be a shame, that it disappeared because of the new one - nice to see it can still look good and be used in an army!

easternheretic
10-09-2009, 10:13
Yes, indeed I am going to be using most of the stealers from the SH box for 40K. I'm leaving out the stealer on the wall though as it will be odd having a "walking" wall move around, and charge enemy models!

Even with the 40K bases, they will still work fine for SH as well!

I'm accepting the fact that having some of the stealers from the SH box will put them at a disadvantage games wise with true LOS and all that (They are "tall" on those scenic bases.). After all, the models are just to darn cool to NOT use them.

I'm using the standard 1" base for them though. With a bit of judicious clipping, most of them fit with just some minor parts sticking out. I'm cool with that as it does give the models soem character.

I'll post pics of the stealers on 40K bases tonight.

I agree about the old wraithlord model. I just HAD to make him a little more dynamic then the old arms apart legs apart pose though. I'm glad that you like it. Makes the effort all the more worth it!

In fact i feel that alot of the old models have some serious character and coolness all there own. No reason to faze them out just because there old. In fact most of my armies tend to have an old stripe running through them. 2nd ed scorpions, 2 nd and 3rd ed banshees, old school farseers and warlocks. 1sr and 2nd ed nid warriors. Yes, the buck tooth variaty and the "ant" looking metal ones. You've seen my 2nd ed fexs!

All in all variaty is the spice of life, and I like my armies spicy!

Cheers

Here you go. Pics on how I mount the SH stealers on to the standard GW 1" base.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/SHstealer1.jpg

For these guys, I kept one original. And sawed/clipped the rest where the red lines are. A bit of heavy duty filing (I used one of those big files that are used to file metal, not the small ones that we use for the hobby.) to smoothen the bottom out, a quick pin to make the connection more robust and thats about it. There is an insert with a close up picture of what it looks like attached to the base.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/SHstealer2.jpg

One original is kept. A little clipping to make it follow the round base contour. For the rest, I clipped the base in various parts on the triangular metal structure the stealer stands on and file flat to mount on the GW base. For one particular stealer, I clipped out most of the base leaving just enough to slip into the slotta base slot. Once again, there are inserts showing the close up of the base.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/SHstealer3.jpg

For these guys, I just clipped along the contours of the base to make them round. I left the pipes that stick out in front just for variety sake.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/SHstealer4.jpg

For the last bunch of stealers, the ones that stand on piles of skulls and the termie armour, I leave as is with various parts hangin out of the base edge. I feel that it doesn't really matter, and any clipping here would ruin the model.

For the one running on the beam and busting out of the bulkhead, I just clipped its scenic base to match the round base.

I hope that helps you with some ideas on how to 40K ready the new stealers. I have some friends who say that it looks crude and crap while others say it a great idea. I actually caught in between the 2 ideas, but finally decided to do it anyway as I really want to use them in both SH and 40K games.

Now I'm off to prime them black. Photos to follow!

C + C welcome. Cheers

A quick update. WIP shot of the SH stealers I'm working on. I'm rushing at least 10 of them first and the broodlord, as I'm having an apoc game this sunday and want to field more then my usual 20 stealers.

A quick update of my SH stealers and Broodlord.

I've managed to finish painting 10 stealers and the broodlord in time for my Sunday Apoc game. All that is left are the bases.

I reakon I'll paint the termi helmets in the colours of the blood angels in homage to them and the SH game and the space wolves as well for reason of colour contrast. Red and Space wolf grey helmets should pop in the base of skulls and the stealer hands.

As usual C+C welcome.

I took some pictures of the abovementioned apoc games to share. It was 9000pts a side with nids, necrons and chaos deamons on one against IG and deamon hunters (more accurately grey knights).

The objective was uncontested at games end when the plague beares and genestealers were blasted to kingdom come when they were shelled by the basalisk.

Phew! Internet is working again. Makes me wonder how I survived the 80s when the net was not available!!

Thanks for having a look at my plog!

Thanks razormasticator, but I can't take full credit for the color scheme as I nicked it from a heavy metal painters Witch hunter color scheme! Kristen something or other.

I agree about the old eldar models! The aspect warriors truely stand the test of time. They still look good even now! The new guardians on the other hand are far superior then the old one. Still a decent model though. I have about 20 of the old ones as well that I haven't got around to painting yet.

Once I get home from work, i'll post my latest painted minis. The completed devourer fex old school and some WIP old school nid warriors as well.

A quick update on my nids.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/devourerFex.jpg

Here's my completed devourer fex!. All thats left is the base. I need to get some flock but the stores out for the moment. I've been toying with the idea of a nidzilla list for a while now and decided to paint up the old 2nd ed fexs that I had lying around to fit the elite slot. The model being smaller then the new plastic kit fit in very nicely with the idea.

One more 2nd ed fex to go!

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/warriorWIP.jpg

Heres a group shot of some WIP warriors! There all the old 2nd ed metal ones along with an even older plastic warrior as well.

These chaps should will fit in nicely with my exisiting old warriors as well!

I seem to be the only guy this part of the woods that still uses them. I actually like these models! I know the new plastic ones are brilliant, but what the heck. I like to think of my army as nids through the ages!

C&C welcome as usual.

How did you know? I haven't posted pics here before as I don't have the time to devote to painting it to a standard worthy of the model. i wanted to finish most of my eldar models as they've been in my collection a lot longer.

It would have appeared on this plog latter then sooner actually. Thems the break of a working stiff. So much to paint, stuck at work. :(

Thanks Tommygun.

I was actually "forced" to use these bases, as I had a fairly large lump of GS that was hardening on me and didn't want to waste it.

After a quick trawling of the net, decided to nick the idea of someones warmachine army that had similar bases.

I'm actually quite pleased with how it turned out!

Yes, his Vendetta / Valkyrie is the one with Inquisitional colours (red and grey), I still have 2 more conventional Valkyries of his to finish before the end of this month.

I don't frequent PI coz I got nothing to do there LoL. But I am joining Dom's Planet Empires Campaign thingy...

I did bump into Brenden a few weeks ago there and he invited me for you guys' weekly sunday get together at his place, but I am so swamped with work and family I hardly could spare the time to travel down to his place (which is so damn far for me).

Would love to get into another Apoc game with you guys soon... maybe when I get my IG army running I can team up with Zack and bash face.

But then again, I'm a cheezy player... so I don't know if he will allow me to be in his team. LoL

Would love to get into another Apoc game with you guys soon... maybe when I get my IG army running I can team up with Zack and bash face.

We're planning a big apoc game slated for the tail end of November before nick leaves for Canada for a month in December.

He wants to resurrect the old 3rd ed seeding swarm rules assaulting a defensive complex set up in the middle of the table just like in Starship Troopers the movie.

We could always use the extra nid player to really beef up the swarm. After all, Bernard has an insane number of marines to begin with, so the more the merrier I say. If you want to give the IG a go, I'm game too! If you're interested, I can keep you informed of the details and the timing.

That's the reason why I'm painting nids at the moment, to beef up my own swarm.

I've got 1 more fex, 3 tyrant guards, a tyrant, the 5 warriors that are WIP, another 22 SH genestealers and a metal brood lord I definitely want to field in that game. Which means I've got to get cracking with the brush!

I'm more than happy to chip in for the Nids team. I got some gaunts and rippers that are yet to be painted... i'll probably be able to get them done in a week just in case.

There is no chance my IG will be ready by November so I guess its nids then.

Thanks kiwichild. I got the idea for the colour scheme from the fact that talons were always painted bone so i so no reason to change colour:o. The black and brown was inspired from roaches:eek:. The rest of the details required a vivid colour so I opted for green in homage to the predator alien from the movies.

Updates again!

I've finished the 5 old school warriors less the base. I will eventually get around to the bases with sand and static grass.

Enough talk. Pics!

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/warriorfin.jpg
Here is a group shot of the five warriors I've just finished.

One is armed with a barbed strangler, one is armed with the venom cannon and the other 3 are armed with death spitters. All are armed with rending claws. 2 of the death spitters are from the new plastic warrior kit. Ones is directly grafted on to the old metal model, one was attached to an old school warrior arm which used to have a spine fist which I chopped off . Incidently, the old spine fist is now decorating my new plastic carnifex base masquerading as a ripper!

The whip came with the old model and I did not have the heart to chop it off as it looked pretty darn cool. If a WISIWIG nazi were to blow his top, I just quote Lord Flash Heart from Blackadder and go: "Bugger off you old fart."

Here are some close up shots of the warriors.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/warriorfin1.jpg
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/warriorfinwlictor.jpg

The unpainted model in base coat black is my current WIP. Its is yet another old school nid model. This time a lictor.

I was never quite happy with the pose of the lictor and its arched back looking like it is in rigor mortis.

So I took a hack saw to it and curved the spine to a more curled up position and repositioned the legs after more hack sawing to give it a leaping pose. All the better to pounce on those unsuspecting victims! Unfortunately, I cannot find the WIP shots of the conversion so I cannot post them here.:(

As usual, C & C most welcome and appreciated.

I've finished painting the pouncing lictor I converted from one of those old 2nd ed model. All that is left, is to base it in sand and static grass.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/pouncelictor1.jpg
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/pouncelictor2.jpg

I'm quite please with how it turned out. I've been trying for the longest of times to get a nice gradual transition from the brown to the bleach bone, and am starting to have some results!

I've basically diluted the bleach bone paint to a very thin consistency. Slightly thinner then skim milk, and applied it in layers, and then highlighting it with Velajo Off White. No more mixing the bleach bone with browns!

I'll know for sure with my next model if this is a viable method of just plan dumb luck! :D

C&C welcome as usual.

An update on some WIP stuff I'm working on and a basic "how I did it" as well.

I decided that I wanted to convert the metal broodlord that I had for a couple of reasons. First its original pose was frankly, weak, and secondly, the model was way to small compared to the new SH broodlord, so I needed to "bulk up" the brood lord.

The easiest way to do that was to mount it on a base that increased the height of the mode. I also wanted a more dynamic pose so I broke out the hack saw and GS.

A picture paints a thousand words, so they say, so moving on.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/broodlordwip1.jpg
I wanted the brood lord in a leading/running pose, I needed to straighten one leg and have a more pronounce bend at the knew for the other leg. Making cuts where the red lines, I then used a screw driver to widen the gap of one leg, and pliers to close the gap of the other.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/broodlordwip2.jpg
I also wanted the change the pose of one arm as the original Hulk Hogan ripping shirt pose was stupid to say the least. The SH broodloard had just the pose I wanted , so once again, I made cuts where the red lines are and widen the gap to straighten the arm.. I bent the hand at the wrist back wards and rotated the hand at the wrist 90 degrees as well. The picture doesn't show the effect very well, but the finished model will show it nicely. You will see a paper clip in the pictures here, as I used one to pin the arm to the shoulder later on.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/broodlordwip3.jpg
Next I attached the arm to the shoulder via a paper clip pin, and would fill in the gap with GS. The legs were attached to the torso via GS as well. All gaps were filled in with GS. I also bulkerd up the deltoids of the broodlord with GS as well.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/broodlordwip4.jpg
Here is the completed conversion of the broodlord. I mounted it on one of the sceneic bases that a SH stealer was using to increase the height of the model!

I'll post comparison pictures of the SH broodlord with the conversion once its painted!

I also worked on a very minor conversion for one of the tyrant guard models that I had. I notice that all of them were exactly the same. I repositioned the shield to a more forward position as opposed to the original one that was to the side. I have a comparison shot with the minor conversion and an original.

Nice do on them stealers. I might add a slightly more shock highltght to their eyes, but that's just me..

Anyways, have you noticed that certain stealers (the ones that stand on a marine and the ones that have skulls under them) are missing an arm? I'm just pretty considered if it's just the ones I own, or is it a common flaw?

easternheretic
09-11-2009, 04:47
Cheers Goat of Yuggoth! And yes, the sychronised swimming stealers on the termie armor and pile of skulls are missing an arm.

I spent a good 5 minutes turning the model over in my hand again and again looking for the other hand to paint the claws before it dawned on me that it was missing said hand and attaching arm as well. Felt foolish that it took me so long to realise!

How would you shock highlight the eyes? I'm using blood red for the eyes aalready. Is there a brighter red?

Cheers!

Goat of Yuggoth
09-11-2009, 09:52
Well, I could say mixing is the key here. Use either Blazing Orange (or similar color) or mix white into Blood red. Both give a different impression, so pick the one that suits you. Orange riches out the red, and makes the eyes more "alive". White, on the other hand, gives the impression of a cold-minded killer, and I think that it would suit you better. Don't mix too much or you'll have pink eyes. :D

Putty
09-11-2009, 10:29
How would you shock highlight the eyes? I'm using blood red for the eyes aalready. Is there a brighter red?

What I do is I basecoat the eyes with white or grey and paint over the basecoat with gore red

I then ink it red to get a real deep red.

You can also basecoat the eyes white and ink it red a few times, you get a bright red but it looks slightly different then the one I mentioned prior.

try both and see which you prefer.

Sorry about the lack of updates, but I've stumbled upon a certain computer game called Dragon Age Origins in November, and it has consumed all my spare time until recently.

I've played the game twice through, and have only recently started painting again.

Forgive the double post.

Here are the close ups to the tyrant guards.

And my current WIP. The new plastic kit Trygon!

I was kind of up in the air as to which variant I wanted to build, and since I was going to continue to shell out alot of cash for new nid models, I've decided to try and modify the kit to alow me to inter change between all 3 variants.

The hardest part I see here is the jaw piece and modifying it to be swapable.

I will be documenting my efforts right here.

Here is how the model stands at the moment.

More to follow shortly, and as usual C&C welcome!

the lower jaw can actually be magnetized.

issue here is the spiny bits on the back of the neck that differentiates the species... if you are going to magnetize the variants, its best to leave the spines on the back out as people tell the difference from the head anyways.

and magnetize the tail too as apparently the different variants have different tails O_o

i will make my trygons/mawlocs modular... head, torso, tail and arms all magnetized for easier storage. :D

Roger that Putty old chap! Sounds like a plan.

In fact, the main reason I'm going for modular is transport as well! It is a major pain in the a** transporting large nid models to and from battle.

Below we have pics of the trygon bits with magnets attached to various places to make the model modular. Some if the parts have been pinned and some have both pins and magnets. The reason being that pinning works better in some instances and some of the limbs attached with magnets only tend to be a bit unstable. It might be because I'm using too small magnets, but I do not have any larger ones and did not want to get new ones anyway.

I have also molded an epoxy putty extrusion for the attachment of torso to tail by simply shoving the to parts together and taking them apart, making sure to lubricate so the do not stick. This makes it quick and easy to take apart the model.

Enough gum flapping! One to the pictures.

Here are the parts assembled in trygon and mawloc variant.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/trygonwip5.jpg

I know, I know, the mawloc is surpose to have the small talons, but I feel the small ones make it look goofy, besides I was plaing to use them on a Tyranid Prime conversion.

Time to paint these puppies, or should I say this puppy (singular) as I only have one trygon!.

As usual C&C welcome. Cheers!

What I did for my Carnifexes and Hive Tyrants was to make the arm ball joints flat (by cutting it flat)... that helped the arms stability because of the flatter surface. I also GS the space around the magnet so the concave area of the arm socket in to torso is flatter... I was too lazy to drill holes in the Carnifex torso back then. xD

You might want to try out just 1 arm to see if that works for you, but then again, what you have done also works tbh!

A quick and minor update on my Trygon/Mawloc.

I've managed to squeeze in a pitiful amount of painting time in between spring cleaning for the up coming lunar new year, and yet another Bioware RPG for the PC. This time in the guise of Mass Effect 2.

Uber addictive game just like Dragon Age! Its going to be a tough few months with Mass Effect 2 right now, and the expansion for Dragon Age coming out in March and all that!

Must grab the brush more often.

Any way here's a pic of where my Trygon/Mawloc is at the moment.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/trygonwip6.jpg

I'll be adding a step by step on some bone-swords and a WIP on a Tervigon, a friend my had asked me to help convert, just as soon as I finish cropping and scaling the pictures to a proper size.

I wonder what was GW thinking when they came up with the name Tervigon. This has got to be the dumbest name EVER! A simple Tyranid Brood Mother or Tyranid Brood Progenitor (In the vain of Tyranid Warrior) would have been SO much better. *Sigh* And don't even get me started on Tyranid Shrikes and Sky Slasher!!!! Really idiotic naming conventions!!! :wtf::mad:

As usual, C+C is most welcome. Cheers!

I feel you man. It is a massive struggle to pry myself away from the PC!

I haven't tried the Infiltrator yet. How does this class play?

My orignal Shepard was a goody two shoes Vanguard, and I've decided to continue on that vain. I must say that they have managed to mix it up in terms of squad abilities a lot better this time round.

My main complaint is the lack of really fun banter ala Dragon Age, the other will be the scanning of the planets for the 4 different elements to upgrade stuff. At least it is an improvement other the Mako running around the planet surface hoping to stumble on a cache.

I too did the Arcane warrior and bloodmage combo which was broken, but fun! My second run through is an assasin duelist which is about 3/4 through before Mass Effect effectively put a stop to that!

Back on topic, I'm glad you like the model so far. Much appreciated.

Another quick update. I've finished resizing the pictures of the bone-swords that I've converted for a friend. A very minor and simple step by step.

He too has jumped on the band wagon called: "Mad scramble for bone swords" that seems to have cropped up since the release of the new codex.

I mean for crying out loud, I've even had some "space marines for life" players asking if I had any spare ones lying around. The assumption being that a mad nid collector would have them handy. Which we don't!

Solution? Convert them!

I've seen some nifty work done all over the net for bone sword conversions involving plasti-card, GS and what not.

I approached the problem from a different angle. What mad nid collectors tend to have lying around in abundance are spare bioweopons. I decided to convert them into bone swords.

In fact, I used the very same method to convert scything talons for hormies as well! If you want pictures of them, please let me know, and I'll photgraph them and post them here as well.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/boneswordWIP1.jpg

1) I started with a spare venom canon.
2) I cut along the red line to remove barrel. I will be using the barrel for the blade soon enough.
3) I cut along the red line to remove spike. I will be using the spike to cover up the ugly cuts soon enough.
4) Using my hand power tool with grinding attachment, I grind and remove excess plastic to thin the barrel into a blade.
5) I glue the newly created blade, back on the arm in the appropriate place, some minor touch ups with the spike to hid the uggly cuts and hey presto! A nice bone sword!

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/boneswordWIP2.jpg

Some more pics of more bone swords, this time using the death spitter from the carnifex box set and adrenal glands from the guant box set. This way, I get lefty and righty swords as well.

Cutting, grinding, gluing, burning! I mean touch up as described above to finish the job.

I hope my approach to bone sword forging was helpful.

As usual C&C welcome.

Cheers

Those Bone Swords look great!
Can't wait to see them on some models :)

Infiltrator is Fun. But its a careful class. Can't take heaps of shot's, unlike the
When you scope with a sniper rifle, time slows down vastly, so you can head shot 99% of the time. Also when you use the cloak ability (rank 4, assassin cloak) you can 1 shot through 2 levels of protection pretty easy. I know i can clean up Krogans in armour in 1 bullet. But i also run with Miranda for increase weapon damage (from rank 4 Cerberus operative,t he option that gives higher team weapon damage) and Jack cause she is Hilarious. Also i use Warp Ammo from Jacks loyal ability.
I'm playing Renegade. about 60%renegade ranking atm. Eyes go all red and glowey, and the scars get worse and glow. Pretty Awesome.

I'll see if I can get photos of my friends nids once he finishes painting them.

I have no plan to convert some for my own at the moment as I more interested in converting all the units that don't have a model.

I'm starting with the awfully named tervigon, once I finish converting one for above same friend.

I've never had any luck using the sniper rifle in ME and ME2. For some strange reason (probably my bad mouse controll) I can't seem to hit anything with it. It is one of the reasons that I ended up playing Vanguard. Get close and shot and then charge in for the kill with the biotic charge ability!

Sounds exactly like the way I play my nids too! But with usually less than spectacular results.

Cheers!

Well, as you might have guessed, these swords were converted for Nick, and he's given the thumbs up and has collected them already so I won't be and can't working on them any more.

I will probably get more fancy for my own warriors touting BS. So the plasti card and GS might be mandatory to achieve that!

There's still the barbed strangler to grind, and on second glance, it would make a mighty find BS as well.

I even have some old 2nd ed buck tooth warrior bone swords! Back in the past 2 codex, warriors dont have swords, so I removed them and replaced with rending claws. I guess it 's time to reverse the process!

To all who celebrate the Lunar New Year, Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Back to topic.

I've got some WIP shots of the tervigon (Man do I hate the name! GW what were you thinking! :eyebrows:) that a friend of mine with 2 left thumbs has asked me to put together.

I've set out to widen the carnifex torso. I've sawed the 2 carapaces in half and glued them to the torso as you usually would.

I then drilled out various holes in the side of the torso to add paper clips to widen the torso, and to give the GS a place to adhere.

Then I've filled in the gap with GS and sculpted in the additional 3 spore stacks that you see in the picture in the codex. The image below should make the process clearer.

Thanks for stopping by and having a look! In all honesty, I don't really make a distinction between metal and plastic models when it comes to conversions. Its just a matter of having the right tools for the job, and like Tim "The Toolman" Taylor of Home Improvement, I love tools and power tools! So I've got a fair collection of tools so it make working with metal easier! Opens up a larger world of possibilities for conversions and kit bashing.

I highly recommend investing in some tools!

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep an eye for the stuff over here. I doubt I'll find it though. The dedicated hobby shops are disappearing faster then vampires in sun light over here. I get my green stuff from my gaming shop which stocks it specifically for us table top gamers.

Anyway, back on topic, I've got more updates on the WIP tervigon I'm whipping up for a friend of mind.

FYI I've kept all the bits that were cut off, as I will be using the, to detail the model later.

The weird yellow putty is actually a 2 part epoxy plumbing putty which I used to fix some pipes at home.

It is not ideal for modeling as it is too soft to work with at first, and dries to quickly. It is very sticky, and it reeks. I'm using it here because its a lot cheaper then GS, and I had it handy, plus it dries rock hard. Perfect to bulk up the model and create surfaces that I can then used for the details of the model and drilling hoes for pinning.

Cool! Be sure to post pics here at Warseer, will be very much interested in seeing how that works out. Nice to know that my meager efforts can inspire others!

So I have finally finished my friends Tervigon conversion and passed it on to him. I've also got him to promise to pass me painted pics so I can post them here once he is done.

Should be pretty quick since my friend is a painting machine. Just to give you an indication. When the new codex was released, he bought 2 venomthrope, 3 hive guard, 6 raverners, 20 gargoyles and 2 trygons.

He has finished painting the venomthropes, hive guard, raverners. Since then, he went off bought more warriors, another venomthrope and completed the new venomthrope to boot! All that in less than a single months time. Machine I tell you. Machine!

Anyway pics for the tervigon and the last of the step by step.

I basically attached various tyranid bits on to the body I created using the carapace and plumbing putty. I attached them using the last of my plumbing putty and super glue. I then filled in any gaps using GS. I also sculpted the various non standard GW nid bits using GS as well.

On a side note. I decided to have the tervigon spawn the ternagants seprate from their flesh borers. It states in the codex that nid bio weapons are nid life forms as well so it made sense to me to seperate them. The gant can pick up his living gun once he's emerged for the tervigon.

The front legs are not attached in the sockets provided by GW. I wanted to raise the tervigon a bit higher of the floor. The front and hind legs are inspire by Mojoca's tervigon efforts. Thanks man, for the inspiration. Clickerty click link if you want to take a gander at above-mentioned tervigon. (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=243115)

I've basically glued 4 barbed strangler ammo pouches to the belly of the beast. (The danglelly bits on the left arm. Lets just call them larvea sacks and not get rude shall we!) And various armor plates from the trygon box set.

C&C welcome as usual.

My friend actually instructed me to make sure there was a third set of chimneys as it appears in the picture in the codex.

Mind you, it would have been so much easier to build if the third set wasn't there!

Yup, I think its the combo of termagants making the tervigon a troop choice making it a no brainer. Who else can field a monstrous creature at T6 W6 to hold an objective that can spawn its very own assault shield. I pretty d*mn sure that this entry in the next nid codex will either be nerfed, or consigned to the annuls of history. I''ll be enjoying it while it last though.

I can't fault you there. I didn't realize how big it was until I placed it side by side with a normal carnifex!

As a mad nid player with a larger then tourney size army in the cupboard, I'll with extreme bias and partisan fervour say: "Join the hive mind! You know you want too!

I was rummaging through my PC, I found a close up shot of the infestation/hive node with warrior face. Pic below. You can also see abit more of the under belly of the beast. Unfortunately, that is the best I can do for now as the model is no longer in my possesion, until by friend helps me take some photos that is.

Here in Finland we serve a compulsory time (6-12 months) and move to reserves. I quess that is equivalent to conscription.. I'm currently a Jäger (hunter, footslogger, forest-warrior, whatever) and being trained with an assault rifle. However I'm moving to the artillery in two weeks time, to be trained as an Artillery Observer Officer (I will direct the indirect - FIRE!). I'm probably stuck here for the next 11 months.

Have you served already?

Yup, I've finished my initial 2 and half years conscription (which in my world makes you one lucky bugger. In comparison to me that is.)

I was training as a normal grunt until I had some complications with skin problems and got shunted into being a "scribe for the imperium".

I've even completed my ten year training cycle for reserves, and am now in what's called Mindef reserves. What that means is I'm essentially civilian, but am still liable for service if and when the government says jump. Never happened before, though. I guess they only call that into effect if say the nids attack!

That makes me kind of like the IG actually. No say in your own like what so ever. Come to think of it, it sounds like the nids as well!

The 40K gaming group that I hang out with has decided to hold another "Convert a model and paint it challenge." For those who remember, the last model I converted for this challenge, was a striking scorpion wraithlord.

While I hope that the tervigon I recently converted for a friend would qualify, I have my doubts, as I won't be painting that model.

As such, so as to not fail the challenge, I've decided to convert a farseer on jetbike. The last time I had a game with eldar, my farseer on foot bought the instant death farm after being hit by an assault cannon from a terminator. I'm hoping the added mobility of the bike can help me avoid the same thing happening again.

Besides, a farseer on jet bike can be on cool looking model, and an excuse to make a seer council on jetbike in the not too distant future.

Anyway, I have a predilection for female farseers, and have decided that the jetbike mounted one will be female as well. The cunning plan is to recycle the head that I converted for my foot slogging farseer for the jetbike mounted one. I just claim its the same farseer if need be!

I used the female guardian torso once again, as the base for the farseer, as well as the legs and arms from the jetbike riding guardian. Obviously GS robes were the only option, so I had to try my hand at GS sculpting again.

I also wanted to convert the jetbike itself, as I not overly fond of the jet bike as it stands at the moment. Plus, I figured that an HQs jetbike must stand out more than a normal troops bike. I suspect that lurking in every geeks heart, is a soft spot for the X-wing in Star Wars, so I had to pay homage to it on my farseers bike!

Anyway pictures tell the whole story.

Ah putty my boy:o, but you seem to forget, mere mortals can't paint as fast as an honest to god painting machine like you!

I was contemplating getting a living saint model, and doing a head swap. However, the price of the model is a bit step just for a head swap.:wtf: I'll be forced to make a helmet version anyway, if I want to field both the farseers in a game.

I kind of doubt that the headless horseman mythos is still being told in 40K years time!

Leogecko, Norsehawk, thanks for the encouragement!

I've finished painting my trygon/trygon prime/ mawloc, and I've got pictures!

All that's left is to sculpt a hole out of GS to simulate the trygon bursting from the ground from an oval cut CD. The original base was sacrificed to the

Trygon Prime.

I've magnetized and pinned various parts that allow me to swap the bits out to make all three variants.

I didn't bother painting the small dinky claws for the Mawloc, as they looked pretty pathetic on the model. I'd be using those for the Parasite of Mortex conversion I have planed. I also left out the Mawloc back spines, as I got lazy trying to figure away to make them removable yet secure enough for gaming purposes.

It will be a while before I consider buying another one, as it took me forever to paint all the back carapaces. I badly need a change of pace at the moment!

Thanks for stopping by. Your comments and input are much appreciated. I'll beef up the legs on my next tervigon as well as a tyrannofex conversion. Never occured to me to do it, but it should be fun and cool as well.

Anyway, instead of my painted jetbike farseer and those space marines I'm working on, I got side tracked in taking photos of a WIP Doom of Malanti I was working on over the weekend. Its payday, which allowed me to purchase the 2 base models for the project.

I know it's expensive, to sacrifice 2 models just to get 1 in return, but nobody ever said a 40K modeler and gamer is rational. At least I've never been accused of being rational, as far as I know! Beside, I thought the combined models would make a very cool Doom of Malanti, and I'm very pleased with the results!

Just a quick side note, the new zoanthrope (There new to me, as I only have 3 of the old 2nd ed zoanthrope.) is a MAJOR pain in the hind quarters to assemble. I'm not a happy camper, on how long it took to attach the claws and smoke stacks of the model.

Enough ranting, my Doom of Malanti WIP shots and my usual "what I did" guide.

I used a zoanthrope model, obviously, and the new venomthrope as the base models for the Doom. I figure I could also use the 4 left over tentacles of the venomthrope as lash whips for my next broad of warriors with lash whip & boneswords. Saving me some of trouble of making whips from scratch for my self.

Oh and forgive the typo on the pic. The word should be "half" not "hald". I can't amend it as I did not save the photoshop image of the pic.

I do like kitbashing / converting... only when I get to use it.

I playtested a 3 Mawloc game against Orks 2 weeks back... the game was fun but how the army functioned was not.

I have another 2 more lists in the pipeline... a 5 Tervigon / 9 Zoanthrope list and a double Warrior + Zoanthrope Spores + Deathleaper list but Nick didn't get back to me about borrowing his Zoanthropes and Warriors...

easternheretic
29-03-2010, 02:46
Borrowing Nick's models? :wtf: Good luck with that! Nick is uber protective of his models and I honestly can't see it happening.

If you want, I can lend you 20 odd warriors and 3 zoans if you like. Most are armed with claws and DS, I have some that are dual talons, some are claw and talon config as well. Toss in 2 VC claw and a BS claw. I Even have and ed 2 sword lash and DS as a default.

As for me, I'll kit bash and convert it anyway if the idea of the model/unit is cool, but hopeless on the board, and bring them along for apoc games as a point sink just for faecal matter and giggles. So yes, pyrovores are on my to do list for the future!

Wow, that sounds great!

I need 12 Warriors (config doesn't matter, i'll just say they are Spitting warriors) and 3 Zoanthropes. Got a Lictor to spare? Proxy that as Deathjumper. xD

I think borrowing your models will work better... coz your paint scheme is quite similar to mine.

It's half and half actually. I usually have a rough idea on what the model will look like in the end, and a plan on how and what to use to start the project with, based on the available models out there. Once I actually start converting, it takes on a "life" of its own and then its trail and error.

Take the Doom for instance.

Seeds of the project are sown after reading the codex obviously. In this case read : I want to convert every single one of these new units, just because it will be fun!

When I was thumbing through the issue of white dwarf that had the newly unveiled venomthrope, the body of the model sort of jumped out as a possible extension for the zoanthrope head to make a really big cranium which was how I envisioned the Doom. Inspiration from out of the blue really.

I then spend a period of time visualizing the possibilities and direction I may take the project, to create the model. Where to cut and pin the model is done here as well. I also make sure that I pin point where the models center of gravity will be. Painful lesson learnt from past attempts. (I once had a converted model that kept falling over in a game. Not fun at all.)

This is as far as the planning stage usually goes.

I assemble the raw materials and start work. With the pieces in hand, I very often will quickly realize that my visions usually fall a bit short on how it would work, and then is just trail and error to fill in the various gaps to make the model work.

Making it work will almost always include mechanical execution and aesthetics.

 Let me explain.

In this case, aesthetics means:

-The model did not turn out as cool as I thought it would with the parts I'm using.

-What else can I do to make the model cool.

-Damn, I just messed up the proportions of the model which then totally messes up the model. (Less of a problem with nids, demons and in a pinch, orks as they are very alien in form to begin with. This is a major point to look out for, for any of the more human looking models. Space marines, Guard, Eldar, Tau etc. They have one thing in common, which is that they all have human proportions. Which unfortunately makes mistakes very unforgiving, as errors in proportions are easily spotted as we are use to seeing this form.)

-Opps. That's just plain wrong.

Mechanical execution means turning an idea into an actual real model. This may entail

-With the parts I'm using, my vision does not translate well into a model, as it is physically impossible to make it work.

-It is way to complicated for my modeling skills to achieve. Make it simpler.

-How to I attach this to that.

-Break out the GS. Fill in the gaps.

-I miscalculated and the models keeps falling over.

Either way, in both cases, I'll have to "try something" until it works. I'm guessing, with more experience under my belt, I'll probably end up with more planning and less trail and error.

So while I was working on the Doom:

The the zoanthrope brain section. My initial plan was to graft it to the tail end of the venomthrope body after it was attached to the front end of the zoanthrope head.

Placing the cut piece soon showed the result to be down right ugly not to mention that it messed up the balance of the model. I had to then find a place to use them if possible. This was when I came up with the idea to cut them in half length wise and attach to the side of the head.

Attaching the pieces then presented a whole new can of worms to tackle.

Needless to say, I never planned any of it.

Sun Tze was spot on when he said that the best laid out plans and strategy falls apart the moment when 2 armies meet in battle!

All in all, patience, attention to the details, trawling the net for tips, techniques and inspiration, and the willingness to giving it a go is what I highly recommend for budding converters! Particularly, "giving it a go".

I hope that helps.

Yes, I'm still working on the Eldar as well. The problem with the Eldar is that they are a lot harder to covert while still retaining the defining features of the Eldar which primarily is sleek and smooth. My kung fu just ain't up to the task most of the time.:(

Not to mention that they are a lot harder to paint then the nids as well. I tend to get sloppy the longer I paint, and sloppy painting shows up glaringly on Eldar models .

Hence this plog. Inspiration to keep at it.

The head is a tad too big for my taste, but it's nonetheless a flawless conversion according to the models fluff! More of it!

BTW: I finally started painting some nids...

What can I say, I always envisioned the Doom to be one great big head overflowing with brains. I may have gone a bit over board here.

I hope you are planning to share pictures of your nids!

Oh. And welcome to the Hive mind Dezmord!

Cheers

Anyway, I have some painted pics to share as well!

First up is the Doom of Malanti I recently converted.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/doom.jpg

AND... The promised painted Jetbike Farseer.

I'm not entirely happy with the paint job, especially on the face. There were way too many imperfections on my sculpt/kit bash of the face to lend to a good paint job. The hair came out, for lack of a better term, dorky as well. My GS skills are just not good enough.

I may try another helmet-less head conversion/sculpt in the future to swap it out. In the mean time, taking Putty's advise/preference, I'm converting a plastic guardian helmet head into a the a new farseer head. A WIP shot of the head is included.

The fin on the back of the head is still WIP and needs fleshing and smoothing out as well along with more details/bling.

xD

How did it manage that? The dread should be able to instant kill the leaper with its strength more than double it's toughness.

Is it worth taking in a conventional game? The nid codex is very elite heavy now, with many attractive choices. If in the off chance I actually play a normal game, this info would be useful. The last 5 games have been all apoc where it wouldn't matter!

Any way, I've got a new WIP I'm working on. The tyrannofex!

I'm using the carnifex model as the base, and am using a design from a fellow warseer member Pekel (http://www.warseer.com/forums/member.php?u=14945). Here is a link (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2864559&postcount=232) to the model I'm using as the exemplar.

I'm trying out a different method to make the application of GS to fill in the gaps easier. If you have a look at my tervigon WIP, I only used paper clips. This resulted in the GS "falling" through the gaps very often. I had to constantly shove the GS out from the other side. With the access to the other side limited, it made filling the gaps problematic.

I'm using the plastic sprues from the carnifex to narrow the gaps. The plastic sprues proved to be easy to shave to the appropriate shapes, and made GSing the gaps easier.

The next time I widen the carnifex body (I still have to make my own tervigon.), I'll probably completely fill in most of the gaps using the sprues.

Anyway, the pictures should make things clearer.

The DL is WS 9 and I 7. He is going first and he will hit the Dreadnought on 3s with rerolls of 1s (4 attacks). The Dreadnought can only hit on 5s and when he is down to 1 arm, only 2 - 3 attacks.

The Dreadnought simply couldn't hit the DL for 3 turns. No hits, No wounds. :D

Then again, its a bit of lucky dice rolling on my part and bad rolling on the opponent's.

The main strength of the DL is the -d3 to leadership ability. the +1 to reserves is 2ndary (if you are playing a reserves heavy army, which i was to playtest it).

The -d3 is damaging for Psychic characters especially when eventually it is surrounded by Synapse creatures (all synapse creatures should have shadow of the warp.)

Yes it is crucial for regular games to have DL. Doom of Malaysia... not really.

I'm almost done on my playtesting... and it hasn't been a happy trip at all.

BTW, DL has rending attacks. 6s = auto pen.

It seemed like it was complete when I took the pictures. But after a nights rest, the legs just look too scrawny especially around the thigh area. I was going for a T-rex look, but ended up with a T-chicken instead!:wtf: I'm kind of caught in 2 minds right now, as to whether or not to beef up the legs with a fair bit of GS, or just leave it as it is. Especially since I've gone on and base coated it black before the nights rest.... before the dissatisfaction set in.

What do you guys think? Scrap off the paint on the legs, and beef it up? Or just ignore it and paint it?

Is the ankle "off" enough (By enough, I mean, it being to distracting and ruining the model.) to warrant a re-sculpt?

As long as its not painted (Which it isn't.), I'm would probably be willing to cut off the GS and re-sculpt.

The ankle should look fine when there is paint on it. However you could trim the sides of it to get them more flat instead of bulging outwards.

The legs look fine - they bulge slightly just before the ankle which makes the ankle look thinner, but they do not look out of proportion with the rest of the model. The longer length of the legs also fits the overall scale of the creature, if you'd just used normal 'fex legs it'd have looked kind of silly, like it was being squashed by the weight of the gun (not very combat effective), whereas the extended legs make it look like it can actually carry and manoeuvre the weapon.

And yes, very T-rex like :)

The ankle should look fine when there is paint on it. However you could trim the sides of it to get them more flat instead of bulging outwards.

Hey guys, thanks for the input. Since the model seems to meet with a general stamp of approval, I'll go ahead and paint it. Too many thinks to convert and paint has me lean towards being a tad lazy and just moving on! Whats done is done, and it still is a fairly nice/cool conversion if I do say so myself.

Speaking of converting, the friend that I converted the tervigon for, has asked me to convert a Doom of Malanti as well. Since this friend ain't as nuts as I am in sacrificing 2 models to get just one in return, it will present a different challenge and approach to the project, and the end results will definitely not look like my own Doom.

Using a zoanthrope as a base, naturally, and using some spare Mawloc bits that he passed to me, I quickly kit-bashed a Doom for him.

I'm actually rather please with how this Doom turned out as well, and am now pondering my unwise decision of sacrificing the venomthrope for my own doom conversion. The end result is still a very cool Doom with the added advantage of not being way over the top, top heavy, and a spare venomthrope to boot!

Ah well, no point in crying over spilt milk. Have a look at the pic and tell me what you think.

Another interesting take on the doom. The only (albeit minor) thing that looks a bit wierd, is the tail. The GS part looks a bit bulky - I usually end up blending it to the metal parts with a dremel multi tool.

I'm currently running away from building the next Zoanthrope and you've already built two of them! I think they are one of the worst models to put together!

I was intending to sand the GS on the tail smoother, but never got round to it. The very reasons that got you running from the model, was the very reason I did not smooth it out.

Attaching the tail to the torso, those smoke stacks and the fiddly little arms had me raging mad  that I just couldn't look at the model anymore and I had to put it aside. It slipped my mind and unfortunately I can't go back as I have already passed the model to my friend.

On a slightly tangent note, for those seriously bad casting with parts that refuse to fit together! I suggest using pliers to bend the surfaces and/or some filing if necessary to get the surfaces relatively flat and running a steel wire brush over the surfaces to be stuck together with glue to remove any residual non glue-able agents. I didn't exactly time myself, this time round, but it was definately a lot faster gluing those annoying parts together then the first time round.

Thanks andyg2006. May your nids grow up better than mine. I have a pretty abysmal track record on the gaming boards!

Sorry for lack of post, I've been rushing to finish painting some Space marines as a pledge among my gaming group for an upcoming event here called SPORE con (http://spore-con.com/).

My gaming group are organizing the Apoc game to be held on Sunday, and we have decided to contribute the apoc formation of the Space Marine Honor company (I believe that is what it is called. Please don't blame a "xenos scum" i.e. me: getting the name of a Space Marine formation wrong!)

On top of that, the shortage of terrain had got us in a tizzy for a while as well.

Needless to say, my nids have been placed on the back burner, while I painted the marines over the month, and some more terrain just this past weekend. It was a long weekend, so we had three days to finish around 30 pieces of terrain.

I had wondered whether to start a new log in the imperial side of life, but find that I don't update my log enough as it is, and splitting it up will result in some major thread dormancy issues.

So the marines and the terrain will be shown here!

So here are the first marines I've painted in well over 10 years!

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/marines2.jpg

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/marines3.jpg
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/marines4.jpg

So here are 30 marines I've pledged to Spore con in the colours of the Ultramarines 2nd and 4th company, 10 marines each, and the last 10 are from the Mentor Legion.

On a slightly tangent note. I'm wondering why the decals provided are so big? The Ultramarine chapter symbol as well as the troop choice arrow all refused to settle nicely on the curved marine shoulder pad.

If you look closely, you can see that the decals are not applied well. It is probably due to the lack of decal application skills on my part, but a slightly smaller decal will sit very well on the shoulder pad and this won't even be an issue.

On another tangent note, I must say that the AoBR marines are at the same time, some nice looking detailed models, and the dumbest looking space marines ever! Who on earth came up with that weird shoulder shrug pose? Painting 19 of them became quite painful. That shoulder shrug is just so ridiculous.

Terrain will be in the next post due to pic limit.

Cheers!

Here's a tip for working decals on marine shoulder pads.

You'll want to use Micro sol and Micro set. You can get them at hobby towns, and some other hobby stores I imagine. Micro Sol helps soften the decal so it smooths out on the surface, then Micro Set, sets in in place, obviously. Works pretty well. They also help eliminate bubbles, apply them with a paint brush.

However it is still a very curved surface, I recommend using a sharp Xacto blade to cut lines in the decals. For ultra marines I'd cut it between the upper parts of the U, that should help it wrap around the shoulderpad quite well.

Thanks for the tip Firmlog. I will try and find them here in Singapore. I've actually did cut the upper part of the U as you have suggested. It helped a bit in getting the decal to set on the shoulder pad. The very first one that I applied did not have the cut, and was totally unable to adhere to the top part of the shoulder pad at all.

Had I but posted them earlier, I may have had enough time to change them as suggested. It would have been grand to poke fun at them.;)

Well it has taken a while, but I've finally finished painting my Tyrannofex. It's painting was delayed by the need to paint the space marines and terrain in an earlier post.

I'm very pleased that I managed to finish it in time for the Apoc battle at Spore con. It would have been very annoying to have had the painting of the 30 marines result in the tyrannofex missing the game for lack of a paint job.

Any here are some pics!

As usual C & C is welcome.

I'm currently shifting my focus back on the Eldar in and effort to get them painted. They have been languishing in my closet for way too long.

As usual, I'm not completely satisfied with some of the models that I have, so I'm breaking out the tools to convert them.

The current models in question, are 2 forge world wave serpents I managed to buy from a chap quite some years ago. The problem I have with the serpents come from the fact that I have seen the epic serpents, and they have got me hooked on the extra fins that are attached to the front of the tank.

As such, I grabbed hold of some plasti card and am now attempting to convert them to look like the epic serpents.

Here is what I have so far. More detailed instructions to follow as I progress.

Yay! At last, more Eldar work! This waveserpent should look interesting.

Hopefully I can keep it up. Painting Eldar does not come easy to me, as I'm very sloppy in my brush work, and any minor mistakes are very glaring on them. Unlike the nids, where I can just write of the minor mistakes as organic.

Greetings all, here is a quick update on the wave serpent conversion I've been working on.

I had purchased 3 forge-world wave serpents 2nd hand quite a while ago before the plastic kit was available, but never got around to painting them.

I have always thought that the epic version of the wave serpent with additional wings looked a lot cooler then the one offered by forge world (and the "new" GW plastic kit as well!) and wanted to try my hand at converting them.

The original attempt made a long time ago fell on the way side due to the wings looking way too bland without any details other than the plain smooth plastic card cut to shape.

It is only due to trawling the warseer project logs recently, when I stumbled on one of our members using scribbing templates to add details to his tanks that I found a solution to this "bland" problem!

Here are my efforts in that regards after I bought the appropriate templates on EBay.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/wipwaveserpent3.jpg

I have 2 of them with the added on plastic card wings. The third one will have to wait, as I ran out of plastic card.

As usual, C&C is welcome!

I admit I never liked epic wave serpent version and I hated conversion they did in WD years ago. Still your version of wave serpent looks beautiful. My only suggestion would be to make corners on the wings a little bit rounded as it would fit better with organic shape of the tank.

Also very interesting approach on your nids, especially doom. Very nice conversions.

I apologise for the lack of updates. In actual fact, I have been making some steady, but slow progress on the painting and modeling front. I just never got around to taking photos and posting them up.

Anyway, I have some painted Eldar to share as well as some tyranid conversions. One is a WIP, and the other is complete. I'll of course try and get painted pics once the owners have finished painting them.

First of, I've have some 2nd ed Dire Avengers and Howling Banshees completed less the power swords on the banshees and dire avenger exarch.
I actually want to give the crystal sword a try based on the tutorial published not long ago in an issue of White Dwarf, but for some strange reason, I just can't find that particular issue.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/DA-painted.jpg
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/HB-painted.jpg

Next up is a Mawloc conversion I did for a friend. He wanted the Mawloc bursting out from the ground, so I had to hack the Mawloc into a few segments and reposition them to have the Mawloc bursting straight out as opposed to the original GW pose which has it hunching over and looking downwards.

The space wolf that is impaled on the tooth/tusk of the mawloc was designed to be removable, hence it is only seen in one picture. Both my friend and I are a bit worried that the added weight on the end might cause the model to warp. I guess he'll mount the space wolf only at the start of a game as a show piece as well as a wind up!

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/wipmawloc.jpg

And finally, a quick WIP of another tyrannofex that I'm working on as a commission job.

All that is left are the 3 spore stacks on the back. I have to wait for the GS to cure. Before final details for the stack are added.

I intend to have the rupture cannon go underneath and as part of the lower jaw of the Tyrannofex. I'm actually following the GW picture quite faithfully for this one.

The forward limbs will be the largest scything talons from the trygon set. They will be used to support the upper torso of sorts as it does look chest heavy.

I'm also going to be using the warrior sprue rending claws as a small set of limbs that will be embedded into the rupture cannon, to round off the 6 limb tyranid theme.

Resin? What resin? I see no resin anywhere?
You mean that yellowish looking stuff at the bottom of the torso?

It is a 2 part plumbing/all purpose epoxy putty. I usually use the stuff for large areas that need bulking up as it is a lot cheaper than green stuff. About 4 times cheaper than green stuff and I get from the local hardware stores.

It doesn't hold details well. If fine details are required, I would usually cover it with green stuff later.

For this particular project, the plumbing putty was more than enough details wise hence no green stuff.

For now I guess. He's sounded me out for a Tervigon, and I'm waiting on him to pass me another fex kit so I can get started.

Anyways, I've finally managed to borrow the camera from my sister, AND some of the conversion I've done for others have come back with painted pics so I've got updates.

First up, the Mawloc conversion I did for a friend with the beast bursting form out of the ground has been painted and pics are below.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/mawloc2.jpg
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/mawloc1.jpg

If you look closely at the pictures, you will notice some primed black old school fexs and zoans in the corner. Since the original config of the model is a screamer killer, this brings me up to a grand total of 3 carnifexes in the screamer killer config. I have one painted up a long time ago. With 3 in my collection, this allows me to use the screamer killer brood apoc formation! You have got to love that strength 7 ap 2 hellstorm template!

Since its been awhile since I've updated my log, I've already finished painting them along with 3 more old school zoans as well.

The pic also contains my current wip models that are being painted. The striking scorpions are almost. The eyes, gems and straps need to be painted, as well as touching up the white. Pics are below.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/fexzoanswipscorps.jpg

And finally, I've also finished painting an old Armourcast Dactylis that I managed to purchase of ebay. I've been trying for years now, to complete my collection of old school armourcast tyranid assault spawn, and the Dactylis was the final piece of the puzzle. Oddly enough, it was the only one I manged to get unpainted, and as such, it is the first one to be painted in my hive fleet colours! I'll be posting pic of the other 3, once I've painted them up in my hive fleet colours.

For now, enjoy this blast from the past! For scale purposes, there is a Pedro Cantor model less his powerfist arm near the horn of the Dactylis in some of the photos.

I simply love these old models! The Zoanthropes are ace :) The Dactilys is also nicely painted , but the whole sculpt looks somehow "wrong" compared to all other 'Nids.

Thanks Dezmord much appreciated! :)I know what you mean in regards to the Dactlyis not fitting in with the new look that the nid range has taken, but since I started out with old school nids, and have a fair number of them in my collection as well it fits in. I've always wanted to collect an Epic nid army, and find it quite odd that I now have one although in the 40K scale!:D

Looking back at the past year, I must say I'm rather disappointed with myself and the amount of progress I made in the attempt of putting a big dent in my pile of unpainted minis. A total of 25 updates in a year where I had hope to make one a week for a possible 52 updates in a year means I managed less than half the hoped for updates.

Seeing that it's a new year, I'd thought I make a new years resolution of sorts in regards to my big pile of unpainted minis. I will attempt to update this log regularly: at least 3 times a month.

So first up for the year, even though I started them last year are the remaining 7 2nd Striking Scorpions I'm painting for my eldar army.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/eldar_SS.jpg

The Scorpions on the bottom row have some conversions ranging from minor to fairly major repositioning to break up the monotony of the same poses over and over again.

As always, C&C is welcome.

Seeing that I had hoped to speed up my painting and had decided to paint my Eldar army, (Smooth gradients on large surfaces anyone?) I bought an airbrush using a bit of last years bonus, but never got around to using it regularly, as it was a bit daunting learning to use it.

I have started to muck about with it.

Seeing that part of my large pile of unpainted minis included some Orks, I've started experimenting with the airbrush and using it to help me paint minis. I've figured that a slightly messily painted Ork will not detract from the overall look of the model to badly, in fact, it might even add a bit more orkiness into the whole look, thus making them perfect for experimenting on with the airbrush.

Here's a photo of my aribrush rig, and the Orks in question.

BTW The background blue gradient for both the airbrush and Striking Scorpion photos was also an experiment and trial on how to paint with the airbrush.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/airbrush.jpg

Just a quick share in regards to the airbrush.

Thin your paints. Even more so then you normally do when painting with a brush. The most common advice I found on the net was that it has the consistency of milk. I gave that a try, and the it did not work out so well.

After much trawling of the web for advice on how to overcome this problem, and finally, much trail and error, I now know that I need to thin the paint a lot more than my initial idea of "milk consistency" is. So for folks who are trying out the airbrush for the first time, if the paint is not coming out smoothly, or sputtering a bit, even though you have already thinned down the paint, thin the paint some more.

The net also coughed up this really useful nugget in regards to paint thinning. Use Windex to thin the paints. (For local folk here in Singapore, you can use Kao Glass Magiclaen. I bought a bundled 2 bottle pack from NTUC for extra savings!)

Well that's it for now.

Cheers!

I hope you AB varnished your Eldar metal miniatures with a layer of gloss varnish and after that a layer of matt varnish (if you want a matt finish) to preserve their paint job. There is nothing more heartbreaking that well painted Eldar miniatures that get their paint chipped / worn off.

They look absolutely smashing!

Looking forward to seeing more updates!

Cheers Putty old chap.

I've got some new updates this week.

First up, I've completed (less the base as usual, I haven't figure out how I will base an ork amry.) the 40 grots from the 2nd edition starter box set I had in my collection for the longest of times.

As I have explained in an earlier post, I've been trying out an airbrush to help speed up painting and first on the line were these grots. I've figured that messy ork models still look in character to the army and adds to the orkiness hence making them perfect for learning to use the airbrush.

I went for the Bad Moons clan for a few reasons. First, yellow is notorious for being difficult to paint and I hoped that the airbrush would make it easier for me to attempt. Next, I don't have a yellow army in my collection and wanted a mix of colours in my mini cupboard and finally, A yellow ork army would look awesome on the table top where I game, as there are very few yellow armies around here.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/eldar_grots.jpg

I base coated the models black to begin with, and then using the airbrush, I covered the face, ears, arms and the shirt in white, as my initial attempt with yellow on black just did not work.

Next, I sprayed the now white shirts with yellow followed by bestial brown for the pants.

All the while, being careful not to over spray the wrong colour into the other areas. Naturally, there will be some over spray, but with a little careful tweaking of the PSI output of the compressor, and the amount of paint being sprayed by controlling the airbrush trigger, I kept it to an acceptable level of over spray.

Next I touched up the black and metal areas black again removing the over spray. Washed diluted scorpion green for the skin, dry brushed boltgun metal on all metallic parts then washed the whole model with griffon sepia. A quick dry brush of bleach bone for the whole model less skin where I used billious green instead, and then red for the eyes.

All in all, I completed the models in a much quicker time frame then I would usual have taken for 40 models, and am pleased with the results. I will definately be continuing with this method for my future ork army once I'm done with the eldar.

I'll continue to practice using the airbrush with the remaining 20 slugga boys that came with the 2nd ed box set.

I've also completed 5 old school eldar ranger as you can see in the picture. Detailed shots are below.

Nice cannon fodder, we need to get a picture of our Deathwatch characters ploughing through them all. How much Eldar do you have left anyway? I know you get through you're stuff a lot more efficiently than I do.

easternheretic

184 ELDAR models to go. Ranging from more cannon fodder through to many aspect warriors up to a super heavy grav tank and off course the titans! Its likely to increase some more over the months with all the forgeworld love the eldar are getting this year.

I'm working on 10 wraithguard at the moment.

I did a head count for new year just to see exactly what I had in the cupboard and it came out to be about a ratio of about 1:8 painted to unpainted 40K models.

Appearances are deceiving my friend, the only efficient painters I personally know are Putty aka Dezzo, and Nick. My output last year was probably about the same as yours. Maybe in a pinch, slightly better.

Cheers!

As discussed during lunch the other day, I think working with a white primer/base would speed up the painting of the Orks as you cut out 1 step. As you can directly work on a white base when it comes to yellow or green.

The inking / washing during the last stages will also correct and sort out the over-saturated colours when working on a white base.

I usually AB my yellow on but for smaller surfaces, I mix yellow paint + yellow ink to get a more malleable paint. I think your AB nozzle size is perfect for AB-ing the yellow and green on your Orks... you should be able to breeze through them quickly.

Either way, your Orks look fantastic. Keep them coming!

Real nice eldar you got there, nice and clean and pure. Lovin' the contrast o black and white.

As for bases... good ol' traditional sand and grass I say =)

Thanks for stopping by Raeho & Talon Raven!

I only have some minor WIP painting updates this week, I'm working on ten wraithguard. Most of the highlights are missing, along with details and of course the cleaning up of the splotches of black on the white armour. I did however start on the bases as I was doing some GS work for a friend which resulted in left over unused GS that would have gone to waste, so I took this opportunity to GS all the wraith guard bases as well. All that is left is paint.

I spent some of the week working on some GS work on 2 models for a friends space marine army.

First up is a space marine captain. I worked on a GS cloak off of a plastic card base, and the second is a WIP tech-marine. I worked on the GS pistons and hinges on a bionic leg, as well chopping up the cable tabard from a SM tech-marine, at6taching it to place and GS work to cover up bare spots a dings.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/SM_cloak.jpg

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/SM_EldarWG.jpg

For the up coming week, I'll be putting on the finishing touches on the 2nd Ed 20 strong Ork mob that I was using to test the airbrush on, as well as the 10 strong wraithguard squad.

For those interested in seeing how the space marines would look painted, click the space marine link in my siggy and it should appear there sooner or later. Unfortunately I will have no control over when. You would have to bug Raeho for any future updates for the 2 model!:p

Before I sign off, to all who will be celebrating the Lunar New year this coming Thursday Happy Lunar New Year! Gong Xi Fa Cai ! And HUAT AH!

Cheers!

Nice work on the techmarine! It looks like you've managed some sharp edges with the green stuff - something I'm always struggling with....

Hi Dezmord, I use a standard metal sculpting tool for hard edge work. I find that the key is to lubricate the sculpting tool with vaseline, and to alternate between the 2 surfaces that form the hard edge between each other with light circular motion. The constantly alternating between the 2 surfaces is key.

I hope this helps. The next time I'm sculpting a hard edge, I try and take some step by steps if you like.

Anyway I have some updates on stuff I did last year along with some progress on current stuff as well.

When the new nid codex came out last year, missing some modeling parts, the friend with the red nids that appear on my plog asked me to help him scratch-build/convert some bone-swords and lash-whips for his tyranid warriors. He's completed painting all 19 warriors and was kind enough to bring them over to my home for me to snap some shots.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/bonesword0.jpg
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/bonesword1.jpg
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/bonesword2.jpg

I've also completed the 20 2nd ed slugga boyz that I was painting as part of my use the airbrush experiment.

Continuing with my experiment with the airbrush, another friend of mine who collects Orks was kind enough to give me 15 pairs of slugga boy arms. I've used them to kit-bash myself some more slugga boyz using some orcs as the base, that's right orcs with a C.

A couple of years ago, I had made an unsuccessful attempt into WHFB, and bought myself the 6th edition starter kit, which came with some orc choppa and arrer boyz.

The picture below will show that I've snipped of the arms of the arrer boys and stuck on the slugga boyz arms on instead.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/ork_slugga_kit_bash.jpg

Moreover, I had noticed that 6 of the arrer boys already came with choppas, so I converted them into slugga boyz as well by making myslef some sluggas out of plastic sprue, plastic card and rods and some spare bits. The picture below is the result of my efforts at scratch-building.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/ork_slugga_convert.jpg

Finally, a picture of a completed slugga boyz mob, as well as a WIP of the newly converted sluggas.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/ork_slugga1.jpg

And on a side note, I've noticed that the 4 image limit seems to have been lifted. Cheers to the Mods for this development. Much appreciated!

As always, C&C is welcome.

Cheers!

Hmm, cool Ork conversions indeed!

I was just wondering what did you do with the quivers? I had these converted into two choppa Orcs (FB) and I had slight inspirational problems considering what to do with them...

And on another note, those boneswords look ace! I see you opted for the "cut-a-bioweapon-really-thin.and-make-it-look-like-a-sword" conversion :D

I intend to do a crazy idea with a bonesword, as I have a certain need for an Alpha with CC capability. I'll make a two-handed (or, in his case, four-handed!) Bonesword! We'll see how he turns out...

Meanwhile, you won't mind me leeching all the inspiration from here, will you?

Cheers,

Cheers Goat of Yuggoth, A little trimming of the feathers on the arrows and some GS on whats left to shape a handle, and it would pass as a very big stick bomb.

Yup, shaving the bio-weapons was the fastest way to get boneswords. I got good mileage out of my big metal file that is used on metal work to shave those plastic bio weapons double time.

Another plus, is that with some careful cutting and gluing, while keeping parts of the death-spitters, barbed stranglers and venom cannons intact, you can get some nice looking hilts for the boneswords as well.

Leech away, that's what these project logs are for after all IMHO.

Salutations one and all. I have some updates for work done in the past week to share.

Once again, I've done some minor commission work for Raeho this week. He gave me an assortment of metal marines that he wanted me to either decapitate so he can use the heads else where, or to hollow out the metal shoulder pads so that he can use them elsewhere. Ive included a before and after picture below. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a before photo of the tech-marine. For future updates on how he uses the parts, you'll have to check out his plog. Link can be found below in my signature.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/SM_shoulderpads1.jpg

I've also started on a Ork warboss in mega armor conversion for myself, to make my small ork collection legal in terms of game play. I do not have an HQ unit at the moment.

While rummaging through my collection of minis, I stumbled on an Orc standard bearer which I got during my aborted attempt at WHFB. It is a lot bigger than the standard Ork boys I was painting, and I decided to use him as the base for the War Boss. I recently stumbled on to this plog right here on Warseer by Synapse, where he shared some amazing scratch build meganobz and mega armor Ork Boss. Link to above-mentioned thread here. Take a look. Well worth the time! (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142561) I'm using them as inspiration and guide,on my own attempts at a Mega Armored War Boss. If all things go well, I'll probably make a Meganob squad as well, after all, Bad Moon Orks are surpose to have the most bling!. Pictures below to see the progress I've made.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/ork_megaboss_wip2.jpg

And finally, I've taken on a rather large commission for my friend with the red nids you occasionally find on my plog. The picture below should explain clear then words! An AoBR space marine captain is included in the picture for scale purposes.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/nid_trix_wip1.jpg

I'll be using this big beast of a model as the base. The 2 smaller pictures is for reference and the direction I'll be taking. Stay tuned, as I will be posting updates on its progress.

As usual, C&C is appreciated & welcome.

I apologise for the lack of updates these past few weeks. Dragon Age 2 and a much needed holiday got in the way.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/nid_trix_wip2.jpg

The dominatrix is in the very early stages. I need to get a LOT more epoxy putty, as the ones I had on hand did not get me very far. I guess I'll be raiding the local hardware store for more plumbing putty.

I think there are fan made rules on Bell of lost souls on their Lords of Battle stuff.

easternheretic

Nope, he won't be using the Hierophant rules. That is what his hierophant will be using!

Since most of our apoc games are within a small group of friends, we allow outside fan dexes. And, theconverter15 is spot on. The last time we used it in a game (the original alien queen running amok on the table), we used the BOLS Lords of Battle rules. The smaller picture to the bottom right (with a drawing of a dominatrix) of my starting dominatrix post has some fan made rules as well, so we might be trying that out the next time we have a large apoc game.

This friend managed to get his hands on another alien queen and decided he wanted a dominatrix proper!

Updates on the Dominatrix commission. In the process, I've wiped out the entire stock of plumbing putty from my local hardware shop and earning a :wtf: look from the cashier!

A picture is included of the backing board of the putty for those who are curious, unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of it with the actual putty still attached.

Most of the bulking up work is completed on the model, and i will be switching to greenstuff to start work on the detailed work. Armoured carapace will be sculpted at the shins, top of thighs, tail, head and the back. The ribbing on the chest will be done in greenstuff. Smoke stacks, and of course 2 sets of scything talons will be added as well.

I'll also need to find a suitable item to use as the base for the bio cannon which is missing at the moment.

Anyway, pictures are below. A lot more work is needed, but I'm happy with how it is turning out.:D

I have some updates on the Dominatrix conversion I am working on.

I have added some details on using greenstuff to cover the gray plumbing putty used earlier for bulking up.

Most of the details I have been working on is carapace work over the various areas that require it. Since it is such a big model, the usual smooth carapace pieces would not look good at all. After a bit of trial and error, in an attempt to make it look like the forge world carapaces you find on the 4 Hs of the nid line and failing miserably, I settled for a similar but not identical look of mild grooves and holes to give the large surface area for each segment, more details.

I've also added the ribbing that you find underside of the torso, that alll nids seem to have.

And I've also started on the bio cannon that is mounted on the back of the dominatrix. I used an old cough syrup bottle as the base, and will be adding some plumbing putty to get the rough details and bulk up work, before switching to greenstuff.

http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/nid_trix_wip7.jpg
http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq299/eastern_heretic/nid_trix_wip6.jpg

So a quick scan on what needs to be done before I am finished with this project. I still need to add more detailed carapace to the thighs, the tail end of the tail  and the back and bio cannon. Details for the biocannon need to be done as well. I have yet to start work on the smoke stacks, and the 2 pairs of scything talons. And finally, I also need to work on an egg sac under the tail. It seems that one of the experimental rules, my friend was trying out has rules for the dominatrix to be able to spawn more nids just like the terivigon.

For those who are interested in working more with greenstuff, I highly recommend getting some "Clay Shaper's". These look a bit like paint brushes except where you usually find bristles, you get a soft rubber silicon head in various shapes. What are clay shapers? Click here to find out! (http://miniatures.about.com/od/toolsforminiatures/gr/clayshapers.htm)

I would not have been able to achieve the effect that I went for and the details if I did not have these tools. The usual metal sculpting tool that I usually use are just too sharp and hard.

For those interested, I got my set of Clay Shapers at Heresy Miniatures. (http://www.heresyminiatures.com/clayshapers.htm)

On a final note, I have learned that vaseline trumps water every time, when it comes to smoothing out green stuff. From now on, when I am working with green stuff, I dab a small blob of vaseline on the top surface of my left hand for easy access to lube up my tools.

As always, C&C is welcome!

Cheers!

I've got pics of the Dominatrix painted from my friend who I did the commission for. The final pic had it displayed with various nids from his Hive Fleet including a Hive Tyrant with his posse of Tyrant Guard, Malenthrope, Pyrovore and an Elysian Guardsmen who wishes he never got out of bed that day!

I know I made this model for my friend, but even I did realise how d*mn big it is. It always looked smaller then it really is , when I was sculpting on it. Strange.

Updates for my Eldar army. A post of "finally".

I've FINALLY finished the 10 Wraithguard as seen in an earlier post. It took for some odd and annoying reason, a VERY long time to complete:confused:. (Read 4 months:mad:) All I can say, is that I'm very pleased that they are finally done, and it will be a LONG time before I want to paint anymore of them. Unfortunately I do still have 5 more to go.:cries:

To continue my one off theme of "finally"...

I've FINALLY finished painting the various power swords that are in my current crop of painted Eldar models as well. For the longest time, I've been putting it off as I just couldn't get the effect I was going for as my painting skills were just not up to scratch. That is until i stumbled on this youtube tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7me7OB3XP0&feature=related). Hurrah for the internet I say.

So with new technique in hand, I put paint to sword, and banged out the power swords for my 9 painted Howling Banshees, thus completing their paint job. I painted the Dire sword of my Dire Avenger Exarch as well. Plus the 2 swords on the old school rangers that for some odd reason had them on the model, but no in the rules anymore. I have to assume, that it must be a 2nd Edition thing, as I've been playing 40K since the 3rd.

This ties in to my last finally, which is I've finally finished the 10 Eldar Rangers that I've been painting by putting the final finishing touches on them as well. Which obviously is the above-mentioned swords.

Pictures below.:D

As always, C&C is welcome and appreciated.

Hi xedric, thank you for the kind words. I really enjoyed working on the Dominatrix and am glad that you and the rest who've popped in enjoy it as well!

As for a full squad of well painted figs, I too hope to have one as well! I've figured that by plugging away, I'll get a squad of painted figs, and by plugging away at it some more, I will eventually get on that is well painted!

At the moment, its a few nicely painted minis in a squad, and the rest get a bit sloppy :cries:.

AH well, live and learn as my dad use to tell me.

Your comments are much appreciated!

Hey Dezzo, all thanks to you man. That technique you suggested at the store makes painting them faster, hence I can paint more of them. And since I tend to assume every little bump on an eldar fig is a gem:rolleyes:, I have a lot to paint!:shifty:

Cheers!

Updates on my eldar army after PC nightmares :wtf:. I must remember to have proper backups.

I've finally finished my female farseer from way back. I was never quite satisfied with the head I had made from the plastic guardian sprue, and decided to change it the the dark elf sorceress.

So after a bit of hacking with a saw, some snipping with a pair of pliers, some careful grinding with my trusty dremel, and some GS for the hair and a soulstone, I completed the new head.:)

Unfortunately, it was only during painting that I noticed that I have ground of too much cheekbone form the left side of the face:cries:. Off course by then, I was painting, and decided not to try to fix it, and live with what I had.

Anyway a pics below.

I'm including a shot of my eldar army (fully painted minis) as it currently stands just for fun:angel:.

Like a lot of people who are from my neck of the woods have been bitten by the Malifaux bug, I am no exception.

I contemplated starting a new thread, but since I'm some what of an impatient git, and didn't want to start a new thread and end up waiting for mod approval, I've decided to put all my eggs in a single basket so to speak, and display my crew here. I'll probably ask the mods to move the thread, since I foresee painting more Malifaux crews in the future.

Pictures of my Lilith crew as it stands. Almost completed painting. I thought they were done, but during editing of the picture size, I noticed that a lot of the yes I've painted are a bit sloppy, and will be going back to do some touch up.

I'm currently working on Lelu at the moment and will be adding Lilitu and Nekima to the crew before moving on to a different crew. I know that Lelu and Lilitu work as a pair, but my LGS did not have here in stock.

Anyway, pictures!

I've been painting a Lelu model for the Tale of Skirmish Game Painters 2011 right here on warseer. (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312403)

Until my LGS gets a new shipment of Liltu's or Nekima's, it's back to painting 40K models.

Some minor updates on what is currently on my painting table at the moment.

Yup, more Malifaux. I expanded on my Lilith crew by getting a depserate Mercenary, Nekima the Dark Sibling and a Lilitu to pair with the Lelu model I had.

I've also decided to redo the skin tone of my Lilith model as I was unsatisfied with the first attempt. A little thinner and a lot of gentle scrapping with a knife later and I had a model that reminded me of Destro from GI Joe. To be honest, it was too much effort to remove just the skin paint. I should have just stripped the whole thing and repaint. Oh well what's done is done.

Another model that resulted in the use of A LOT OF EFFORT was assembling the Nekima model. It is a very fragile model.

Previous owners have had problems with the model bending at the ankle area due to a general lack of metal to support the top heavy model. So some very careful drilling was required to pin the model. Naturally I messed up and resulted in the drill bit coming out at an obtuse angle at the ankle and almost wrecked the model. Some careful bending an realigning of the ankle allowed me to pin the model to the rock it stands on and some GS to fill the hole.

Lining up the arms so that the model can hold the sword was also time consuming and difficult. All in all, this is THE MOST difficult model I had to assemble, in my 15 odd years of making models and painting. Worth the effort, after I've had a rest that is!

Pictures are all WIP, and painted and finished pictures will be posted soon. All are almost done!
