View Full Version : 1 million point waaagh!

Okay, so this is a thread I should have written years ago, but whatever it just jumped into my head now...

A long while back, the Canadian GW website had this little thing going advertised as a 1'000'000 point waaagh. What is was, they wanted gamers to send in photos of their legal armies, so that all told the points added up to over a million points (which, in the end, it did).

But when I first read this (obviously too quickly) I thought they were going to show photos of a million point orc and goblin army they had assembled. That sounded bloody cool!

So, basically, my question is this: how large an army do you figure a 1'000'000 pt waaagh would be? I don't even know orc point costs, am terrible with math, such and such.

I'm guessing it wouldn't all fit on a 4x8 table, no?

With my quick math I approximate a 1 000 000 Greenskin army will take up 25 square meters of space.

My 3000pts orc army fills a shelf that is 15 cm x 50 cm (0.15 x 0,5 = 0,075 m2)
1000000/3000=333.333...
333.333... x 0,075 = 25 m2 (square meters)

Letīs see then you are allowed:
999 Lords
2.000Heroes (or 1.001 if you take all youīr lords)
You must have at least 1.001 core units and may have up to
1.002 special units and 1.000 rare choices
Letīs say you want as little models as possible
weīll start with rare
the most expensive rare choice is the giant so weīll take a thousand of them....thatīs 205.000pts
Then special....the most expenisve special (counting per model) is the boar chariot with extra crew so letīs take 1.002 of those thatīs 85.170pts
Then core...here spider riders are the most expensive ones so letīs take the mandatory 1001 units of say five with command and short bows, thatīs 100100pts
That only gives us 390270pts
Well then weīll go to lords the most expensive lord that wonīt drop in cost as all magic items are getting used would be a level 4 savage orc great shaman on a wyvern carrying four powerstones thoser cost 520pts so 999 of them costs 519480pts
that means were up at 909750 before we start with the heroes....A black orc big boss with heavy armour costs 89pts wich is almoast perfect so letīs take 1001 of those thats 89089 bringing us up to 998839....leaving us only 1161pts to fill thatīs 58 snotlings to bring us up to 999.999pts which would be an acceptable 1.000.000pts army....The army would be huge.

Leogun... a 1 million point orc army with no boyz? sacrilege i say!

Well we need a general so night goblin shaman is 50 pts I think? Then boyz are 5 pts so so that's 999,950/5 = 199,990 boyz!

How's that then matteice?

area of a 25mm base is 0.025x0.025 = 0.000625m^2 x 199,990 + the shaman 0.02 x 0.02 = 124.99415 m^2

Looks more like an orc horde to me although perhaps could do with a bit of a bigger boss ;)

333321 Night goblins of 3 points.
One boss, of, say, roughly 35 points or something.
That's 999998 points.

20 mm base, so: 0.020x0.020 = 0.0004 m^2 x 333321 + the boss with 0.0004 = 133.3 m^2

Even more than they boyz, hey :)

is this a question as to how many figures we would need or asking warseer to make an actual waaagh...would be cool...and big....very very big.

I remember seeing that once too on the sight but i can't remember ever seeing any of the armies.

typical 2000 points army: about 150 models, and it is easy to imagine them on a gaming table.

you will need 500 of them, to get 1 mio points.

ps: quite a lot of gobbos will not be within 12 inch of the general. very bad news.....

pps: very funny artifact: 200 orc great shamans should easily bring the whole army into close combat in turn 1, casting WAAAAGH with total power. (i used a conservative 1/36 chance..)

Thats a huge amount of space to fill- id be realy worried about atempting to paint that all! and also the hole in my walet!

@ Kronos
He asks how large it would be, and if it fits on a table...

But... It could be cool to try this here. See how far we can get?

i did some more calculations on the "WAAAAGH trick" above.

it looks like as few as 60 orc great shamans will be enough: 40 of them will get the spell on average. rolling 3 dice, around 1/13th of them should roll total power. this results in 3 WAAAGH moves of your entire army, moving it "forward" an average 21 inch.

this should bring all units into close combat on turn 1, and with everyone striking first and rerolling to hit, they should actually do some damage.

perhaps Mr. Ward thinks O&G are terribly overpowered, in the slightly bigger games that he is playing.....

ps: on the other hand, 60000 points of swordmasters (that is 4000), deployed in 4 ranks and arranged in a curve, that doesn t expose any flanks, would destroy the orcs, as they would still strike first.

It was just a question about the size, to be honest. But I love the idea of trying to make a million point battle! basically, we'd need two factions (Light and Dark for sake of argument), and everyone chooses a side with their largest point value, legal army. Let's see how big a battle the members of Warseer can fight!

Edit: actually, as long as your armies are on the same side, you should be able to bring as many to the table as you want I guess...

Man, that'd be expensive to buy... 500 giants alone would cost $22,500. Wow.

Ouch, that's a lot of cash. But it would all be worth it just to see such a horde... Or not.

I would like to see the 1,000,000 point Dwarf army which will be fighting the Grobi... That would be a sight to behold!

What about starting a thread where everyone puts 1 picture of each of his armies (only the fully painted ones ofcourse) on a table (preferably a battlefield), without any other text, comments, whatever other then a mention of the point cost of each army.
So, just pics of armies and points, and in the first post the OP keeps track of the total point value for all painted mini's, and the total value for each race...

Just to see what we can gather here on warseer.

Can you imagine how many zombies could a 1000000 point VC army create in a single turn? WHOA!!!
