Hello i have recently purchased a skaven team for bb (and a rat ogre) and played my 1st game and was hammered 6-0 (i had the 0). When he was winning 4-0 he went really easy and i still couldnt score. could someone please give me some tactics.:confused:

Welcome to Blood Bowl! Here are some generic tips when using fast teams.

- perform safe moves first (ie no dice rolls)
- always protect the ball, think about what will happen if you cause a turnover, eg will your opponent be able to waltz in and blitz your ball carrier?
- lay down tacklezones
- always try and sneak a skaven or two through the enemy lines, either to harass your opponents ball carrier, to capitalise on fumbled balls, or to be in position to receive a hand-off or pass
- use your blitz to open a hole in the opponents defence, even just by getting a pushback result, exploit the hole and run your rats through.
- your opponent can only blitz once, if your rats are in his backfield he probably isn't going to bother blitzing them, as he'll be more concerned with making his way downfield to score, or to sack your ball carrier (letting your rats run riot)
- skaven are speedy, make good use of the move-handoff-move-pass-move play. You can get your ball from one end of the field to the other in one turn with this play, if you players got into the right position the turn before.

Also, try googling 'Talk Blood Bowl', it's one of the really good BB specific forums, where you will find heaps of great stuff and experienced BB players.

Don't wait for a confirmation from Talk Blood Bowl!!

While you haven't received the confirmation email you probably have been processed. So in the week or so following your registration just try logging in with your details, you should get through.

However if you don't try and log in within 7 days of being 'processed' (even though you didn't get the confirmation email) you will be deleted from the system. So for those of you that have waited a long time, just register again, and log yourself in with your details some time over the following week.

You won't be disappointed, while it's not as active as NAF it is free, and very good.

i have tried (right after posting that post actualy) its been 3 days, in the announcements it told me to because their email doesn't go out or soothing like that.

Just keep trying every now and then, the same thing happened to me (and alot of other people) and eventually you get through. I'm actually going to go over there now see if I can find out anything.

Edit: Ah yes, it is in the announcement section. So just be patient and you will get through.

Concerning the skaven: I'd say read on it.

(keep in mind these were written for LRB 4, although it shouldn't have changed drastically).

You really should be able to score with skavens, gutter runners should be able to get on the ball fast during turnovers.

From the little experience I have had of skaven, rat ogres are big no-nos as they are not reliable enough and cost a Bum!

I would say: 3 gutter runners (4 is a bit overkill for a startup team) 2 blitzers (those AV8 are a must), 6 linemen, 1 thrower (sure hands can be good, and he is just too cheap to pass on). That is 12 players, and still leaves you with 210K. You can get 3 rerolls and 3 FF, or 2 RR and 9 FF depending on what you to increase.

For a starting skavens, high FF might be better.

basically, your linemen will die, you have 1 reserve to carry you out through the game at least. Definitely, the runners are running constantly, at least two in the back field, and 1 around mid field, have the thrower pick up the ball, wait 1-2 turn if you can manage, and then pass it, or handle it your mid runner, who can make a break, and then pass it to one of the other runner in the end zone.

Just dont have your runner on their own with the ball. They'll lose it. The rat ogre is far too expensive, and too much of a liability. When you can afford one (once your treasury has grown substantially, and you have bought yourself an apothecary and a fourth runner), then it had to tactical play, but i dont think rat ogres are good against all opponents.

Remember that life is cheap for skavens, and rat ogres are too expensive.

I think you've got that the wrong way round - TBB is much more active than the NAF forum.

hmmm leme try applying again then

EDIT: ok now its letting me log in....kinda... i log in and nothing happens i cant view anything the screen goes blank not saying anything all i see is the menu at the top, the site banner and the forum frame, but nothings inside the frame (the frame says information at the top) and when i click on the menu buttons it takes me to the log in screen as though i didn't log in, any help would be awsome (oh, it says im a member in the member section the acount names jobular)

oh and on topic, i played my friends skave, and wow, gutter runners are dirty, id say get three keep one in reserve if you lose one and yea, movement 9 and agility 4? nice

its been 3 days,

Actually, according to the database (never try and pull a fast one on a admin), you signed up in the early hours (GMT) of today - I went to bed at 2am, and yours was one of 2 I authorised that had signed up between 10pm and 2am.

Well, the question is first what is the makeup of your team? I personally think that the Rat ogre is good. Yes it's a bit of a gamble, but he can be nasty with his S5, and it's nice to have at least one heavy hitter on the Skaven team.

Everyone seems to forget that, especially in leagues, half the games are about injuring/killing the other players team. Yes you need to score TDs to win, but if you put most of their players in the dead/injured and/or KO dugout, that won't be a problem. Not to mention that causing injuries gives Star Player points, which is the way your players advance. So even 'losing' the game doesn't matter too much if you cause more injuries to the other team. Then your team will advance more and be better next game. For this reason, I don't think having even 3 gutter runners is a good idea. yes they have M9 and A4, which is important for making TDs, but they also have only S2, which is bad on the defensive side. I would say 2 of them max(I only have 1 currently in my Skaven league team, and my team is 2nd in my league, behind only dwarfs. And believe me, we don't hold back in our games. We play very aggressively).

As was said, protect the ball carrier at all costs. Also, when making blocks, always try to insure you have the greater S in the block. Being able to roll 2 or 3 dice is more important even than having the block skill, IMO. Though both is even better.

Fan factor in this edition isn't that important. The most it will give you is +2 on the kickoff table or when rolling for income. And that's only if you get more than double the number your opponent got. I would say spend no money on it. It used to be very important in past editions, which is why other people spend so much on it yet. But now it doesn't matter as much. It's easy for it to go up in league too, as long as you win games. Better to spend the money on an apothecary(a definite must for league play) or more linerats. Try to get as many players as you can. Due to low AV, they will go down easy. Save your Apothecary roll for a nasty injury, like death or a permanent stat decrease. And usually tne on only an important player, like a blitzer or gutter runner. Don't waste it on a linerat, unless said linerat has some good increases. Othewise, you'll hate yourself when after saving that plain linerat, your blitzer gets killed(this happened to me before). Also, 2 rerolls is good to start, I think.

when your players advance, if you're lucky enough to roll doubles, then take the mutation(unless you get the stat increase). They're not easy to get and can help a lot. Which mutations to take depends on the makeup of the league. If there are a lot of tough teams in it(high AVs), I'd take claws, as this will put the fear of the horned rat into these teams. But it all depends on your style of play, makeup of the league, and the player who got the advance.

mutations are only available with league play. When you get enough star player points for an advance, you roll 2 dice to determine what you get. Each player can take certain types of skills. If you roll doubles, then you can either take any skill(including those normally not available to the player), or in the case of skaven, you may take a mutation. But only when doubles are rolled for the advance(two 1s, 2s, etc).
