wahey! the latest offerings from BGFG studios. obviously very much in draftage at the moment. here you go. (see bottom of list for special rules descriptions)

The Tenga
The Tenga are a race of goblinoid creatures that inhabit the jungles of Khuresh. They are small and weedy even compared to other Goblins due to the necessity of being able to hide at a moment's notice. The Tenga live in a symbiotic relationship with the great spiders, known to Cathayans as the Zhiguai. These creatures are very long lived, with the greatest of their kind rumored to be centuries, if not millennia old. While small to begin with the Zhiguai can reach Titanic proportions creating massive burrows beneath the jungle in which to live and drawing sustenance from the very earth itself until their hunger requires satiating and they come forth to prey on any hapless creatures that they find. The Tenga worship these gargantuan creatures as gods and have a great respect for even the smallest of their kin. While many of the goblins are eaten by the spiders, they are a fast breeding race and that there are always many more. Centuries of living symbolically with the Zhiguai has given the Tenga many properties not found in their more common kin. They are highly resistant to poison and, due to their use of the venom of the great spiders as drug, potion, and weapon, have developed many unique responses to it. Depending on how it is refined or enchanted by their shamans they can use the venom either as a deadly coating to their weapons, a hallucinogenic drug or even to somewhat control the great spiders themselves. In Khuresh, this ability is vital to their survival, for goblins alone would not survive long in its inhospitable conditions as the deadly forces and predators that inhabit the jungle would quickly be their end. The Zhiguai often borrow beneath the surface of the jungle creating great warrens and caverns deep below the ground. It is in these caverns that the Tenga live and gather safe, mostly, from the predations of the creatures outside. They have developed exceedingly long and sensitive noses, longer even than their regular kin, in order to be able to find their way in the pitch darkness of their subterranean home and their constant interaction with the venom as the Zhiguai slowly dies their skin first a muddy brown and then deep blackish red. For sustenance the Tenga mostly rely upon following the Zhiguai that come to the surface to feed, following game and scavenging from the carcasses of the creatures killed by the spiders. However, when the need is great, the Tenga can hunt for themselves using bamboo spears and blowpipes coated in deadly poisons, as no Tenga could physically best any, even the smallest, of creatures in the jungle. Despite this for stature and parasitic existence the Tenga have become one of the most prolific races in Khuresh, spreading deep beneath the jungle. When their homes are invaded, or one of the greatest of the spiders ventures forth to seek nourishment the Tenga will form over their unfortunate victims in a poison induced frenzy overcoming them by sheer weight of numbers and the deadly toxins that coat their weapons. The Tenga despised by both the other major forces and the jungle, the Forsaken and the Beasts of Leng, and both of these ancient factions have learned the art of discovering new tunnels beneath their homelands and destroying them before the infestation of Tenga and Zhiguai becomes too deeply rooted. Rarely will the Tenga venture outside the jungle and only when one of the great ancient ones goes forth, or they are forced out of the jungle and their tunnels by other creatures feel they threaten the lands around Khuresh.

Lords

Tenga warboss___________________________________________ ___________60pts/model
The greatest leaders of the Tenga race are often the oldest surviving examples of the species. Rather than being blessed with the great leadership qualities or fighting ability common among the leaders of other races, the Warbosses of the Tenga find their greatness simply in their experience. While limited by the diminutive physique of the Tenga down on less wily fighters and experts at surviving the various changes the jungle as to offer. In Khuresh this makes all the difference as it is generally those who can survive the attentions of the jungle, rather than the enemy force, who emerge victorious.

Very rarely an ancient one will awaken, ravaged with hunger, and slowly make its way to the surface. The Tenga can attempt to softly direct his mount with prods and use of prepared venoms, but he must always be careful not to anger the spider, for the bond can easily be broken and the Zhiguai are always hungry.

Tenga Special Rules:

Jungle dwellers: all models in a Tenga army may move through wooded or jungle terrain with no penalty. They count as natives in jungle fighting scenarios.

Tenga: Tenga are a subspecies of goblin that inhabit the jungles of Khuresh. They have a number of racial special rules

Animosity: at the beginning of the turn roll a d6 for each unit of Tenga affected by psychology. On a 1 roll on the following table:

1: Get them!: the unit immediately attempts to charge the closest unit within line of sight, friend or foe. If the unit is friendly, the units count as being in combat that turn but you may separate them at the end of the turn
2-5: squabble: the unit may do nothing that turn
6: show ‘em who’s best!: reform the unit so it is facing the closest enemy and move it d6 inches forward. It counts as moving that turn (it can still move normally in the movement phase)

Fear elves: Tenga fear any elves they do not outnumber 2:1

Poisonous existence: all Tenga count as having poisoned attacks. If armed with a magical weapon, that weapon grants poisoned attacks as well as its normal properties. Tenga are also immune to all forms of poison (poisoned attacks, dark elf/cathayan poisons etc)

Zhiguai: Zhiguai are a race of ancient spiders that live deep beneath the jungle. Being spiders, Zhiguai may move over impassable terrain as if it were difficult terrain and difficult terrain as if it were open. All Zhiguai are immune to psychology. Note that when ridden, the rider’s leadership and psychology rules will be used even though the Zhiguai’s might be better

Warpaint: made from specially prepared and enchanted venoms, Tenga warpaint bestows a 6+ ward save.

Virulent poison: the Ancient One’s poison is so deadly that its attacks automatically wound on a 5 or 6 to hit and cause d3 wounds

Hallucinogen cloud: Ancient ones venom drips constantly from their fangs, vapourising into a cloud around them. This cloud drives nearby Tenga into a hypnotic frenzy. All models or units with at least one model with the Tenga special rule within 12” of the Ancient One at the beginning of a turn become frenzied for the remainder of that turn (fleeing units become frenzied if they rally).

Spit Web: units of Spitting Spiders have a thrown weapon with a range of 8”. It does no physical damage, however, if any hits are scored by the unit the target must take a strength test (using the lowest un-modified strength in the unit) or be unable to move or shoot in the subsequent turn. For each additional hit scored, a cumulative +1 penalty is imposed on the strength test. A natural 1 will still always be a success.

Oblivious: due to the potency of the venom used to control their mounts, Kui clan models are slightly addled in the brain and consequently somewhat oblivious to danger. They are immune to fear, terror and panic.

Totem: Warriors of the kai clan worship a specific type of Zhiguai. At the beginning of the battle you may choose one type of totem for each unit or character with the totem ability. Characters without the totem special rule may not join units with the totem special rule, and neither can characters with a different totem to the unit.

Hunting spider: +1 strength
Stalking spider: +1 initiative
Spinning spider: +1 leadership
Jumping spider: +1 initiative

Deadly poison: these toxins are extraordinarily lethal and consequently automatically wound on a 5 or 6 instead of a 6 when using mundane weapons

Jungle Stalkers: the Kun clan are extremely stealthy and adept at approaching opponents and catching them unawares. Models with the Jungle Stalkers rule are deployed at the same time as scouts , and can be placed in one of two ways: Either place them exactly like scouts, but with no minimum distance between them and the enemy or place them in sight of the enemy (even in the open), but more than 12” away

Clans:
Tenga are formed into a number of clans based upon where and how they live in the tunnels under Khuresh. Characters may purchase clans as an upgrade and the clans have the following abilities

Kui clan: gains the oblivious special rule and may ride a Zhiguai mount or in some cases a Giant Zhiguai

Kai clan: gains the totem and frenzy special rules

Kun clan: gains the jungle stalkers and deadly poison special rules.

Weapons:

Blowpipe:
Blowpipes are small hollow bamboo tubes that are used to propel darts made from thorns, zhiguai fangs and other sharp objects at the foe. They suffer no penalties for moving and shooting or range and have the following profile

Range: 12” strength: 3 special rules: multiple shots x2

And did you make this set o' rules up by yerself? If so, kudos. If not, kudos to the one who made 'em. I find the idea of Gobbos taming and befriending giant spiders rather disturbing. And the Giant Zhiguai are quite underpriced. The notion of building an entire army of giant spiders are great, however.

these guys are based off the old 4th n' 5th ed forest gobbos (you know, feathers in bands, warpaint, spider riders and so forth) with a hint of the orient added in. things like the red skin, longer noses, relationship with the jungle and so forth are a direct rip of japanese goblins (called tengu- hence the name).

oh, and so far this is all me.

as for the giant spiders, don't forget there's only one of em and they're leadership 7. kind vulnerable to panic if you ask me

Yeah, but still... And it's got four wounds and toughness five.

therisnosaurus
14-11-2005, 13:00
as does an ogre gorger- plus it has killing blow, an extra attack, sneaks up from behind and, most importantly UNBREAKABLE. all for what, 75pts. It does seem to be a good deal as things like kroxigor and whatnot are nearing the same price but a fair deal worse. the important thing to remember is that they come in UNITS. never underestimate the damage panic can do (especially in this army)

Hideous Loon
14-11-2005, 18:27
Ok. You've got me. I concur, getting a seven-foot spider to panic in the midst of a Ld7 (or less) Goblin army would be devastating.

actually, the gobbos wouldn't generaly care (higher unit strength), though they would if he were run down or killed in combat. However, if you were using, say a unit of gobbos combined with 2 spiders and the GOBBOs fled, there's every chance the spiders would follow
