View Full Version : Building the Bergundian VIIIth, plus some random Imperials

Well it was ages ago when I first saw some Bretonnians mixed with Cadians to create some WW1 themed guard, and I wanted to do it for a very long time. So earlier this year I finally got around to making some purchases and sticking together some guys.

Because the models have been sitting under my bed for quite some time now I thought what better way to get motivated to paint the models than to start posting a blog of my progress here. I've had a hard time working out the exact theme of this army.

Should I make the Guard come from a Feudal World or should they fit more a WW1 theme? Right now it probably looks more like a Feudal World considering I'm using a lot of the Bret heads (not just the wide brim helmets) however, I will be building a board at some point and probably theme it in a more modern context. I'm a big fan of Steam Punk kinda things so that may be the way to go. I'm thinking of Bergundia being a 19th century styled world but with a bit more archaic styling to it - Lords and Peasants - think maybe France if the revolution had never happened or something along those lines. Enough of that though...

Until I work out where I'm going though, here are some photos of a few put together

Some more photos. Note that the models still have to be cleaned up with mold lines and in a few cases have some gs work done on the arm attachments etc.

Also, I will be using this blog to also show some other things I'm working on - these will be some other Guard made from Empire models as well as some Arbites and the odd Marine and ragtag Imperial.

Here's the first random Marine put together. I wont be playing these ragtag models so have gone a bit overboard *unless they could somehow work in the game - I'm not the biggest gamer so unsure how they could work, maybe as Inquisitorial Henchmen or something?*

Nice army, dude. I like the feudal European theme of the army. Are the Sergeants Lords? Or will they be the officers?

Nice marine. I like the addition of the orky spikes and the battle damage.

I'm thinking of the Sergeants as coming from an upper class of society, so similar to British training of officers in ww1 but making them more medieval by making most of them fat bastards. (Not that during the middle ages all were fat bastards but you gotta work in stereotypes, right?) ;)
Thanks for the comments

So I'm wondering what kind of scheme to give this army. What do you think would work best?

French Style?

German style?

Also, here's is a Tank Commander on a Leman Russ

The Russ will be modified a bit with the tracks, I'll show pics later when I've worked out how I want them to be exactly.

Nice work with the bretonnian conversions, very characterful.

Thanks T_55!

Here's another model . I was thinking of making him the commander. The model uses a Scout torso if you're wondering with the eagle shaved off.

If he does become the Commander I'll probably replace the vox caster pack with something else. Just depends. For now he is a random model!! :P

Nice miniatures, I like them :D specially the tank comander and the last model (without the vox caster......I think itīs better to put other kind of bag)

i'll have a look round for a spare warzone backpack. they work pretty well!

Hmm not many replies I was hoping for some feedback on what colour scheme people thought would work best. I think at the moment I'm looking at the British scheme.

Here are 2 more photos of a Leman Russ. I need to get a hold of some plasticard for the sides.

And here's a shot of some other random Imperials that could be in an Inquisitorial retinue or something. Not sure what though!

Wow! They look almost exactly like my Imperial Guard! Except for the high-class sergeants.
I'll always be a big fan of the peasant guardsman look - it doesn't seem like the massive Imperial machine would really care much for one of so many trillions of guardsmen.

I love 'em.

Thanks Cygnusmaximus !

Ok here are some PIP shots of some Arbites for the planet of Bergundia which I made out of scouts and cadians. One has a Warzone head, I thought the peaked cap worked well with the policing theme. The leading Arbite's weapons are converted from a Bretonnian lance and a bolter/lasgun conversion.

consider me subscribed, exactly how I would want to do guard. very cool conversion on the russ.
