Going through a bunch of my old boxes I found a blister of Cypher that I had baught for conversion ideas. I don't think I will ever get around to it so I'm going to paint him up and try to sell him on ebay. the picture on the GW website is a bit small, can anyone send a link witha better picture? I didn't see one in the revised Chaos codex or the original 3rd ed IG codex.

Nicely painted, even though the colours used are wrong. Cypher wears black power armour - the original colour of the Dark Angels.

God, what a tacky paintjob. The skill of Thomas Kinkade paired with the colour sensibilities of Stevie Wonder. I bet he like deep independent movies like Van Helsing and Alone in the Dark. Vomit inducingly horrible.

I think it was more of an experiment in source lighting than anything else. The blue light from the power sword reflected onto the armor.

"The Painter of Light", indeed. :p

"That's not vomit, sir, it's dabs of light."
"No it's vomit."

:D

I seem to remember someone on Portant having a decently painted Cypher model with quite a few good pictures in their Portant gallery.

At least he's using colors other than black, dark black, grey and dark red.

Nice paintjob.

Apart from the guns, and the green armour, I think that's the best Cypher model I've ever seen. Then again, I'm a big fan of source lighting and NMM.

Vomit inducingly horrible.

I disagree. Not the best Cypher I've seen, but hardly deserving to be called horrible.

On a side note, where's the Lion Sword?

I'm going to have to get some pix of my Cypher and post them.

That looks like a more loyalist DA than cypher. I think he needs to look more like the heretic who deserves to burn in hell that he is. But that's just me :p

He's not really a heretic...

To be honest...I don't think anyone knows what he is...

Problem is the pics I have found on google or GW are tiny and I can't see much. Heck, I even though his armor WAS green. Thanks for the insights though.

When GW first released the Cypher mini, the Eavy Metal team mistakingly painted his armour DA Green. When the rules for Cypher were published for the Eye of Terror Campaign (in WD 291 IIRC) Cypher was depicted as having Black Armour.

My Cypher has Black Power Armour (of course) and Brown Robes. The Bone Coloured Robes on most Cypher models look out of place. In addtion the adoption of Bone Coloured Robes took place AFTER the schism which split the Dark Angels.

Wintermute, that sounds much like I've painted my own Fallen Angels. And that's how I'd paint Cypher too, obviously.

i believe in his original rules, he could be used in any chaos or imperial guard army.

why was that? i presume the guard units didnt know who he was, being TOP SECRET! information kept by the fallen. hes an interesting character, but how he fits onto the tabletop is still an enigma.
