Are they revered or ostracised and castigated?

I think ostracism comes close, although castigation does come into it as the punishment is extreme, but the most extreme punishment (arco-flagellation or penitent engine) is reserved for only the most heinous of crimes.
They are defrocked (or at least considered no longer worthy to wear the holy armour of the order).
They are shaved (heads at least)
They are often hooded, and they volunteer to hazardous duties so as to redeem themselves (if only in death).

What is their fellow sisters' attitude towards them?
Are they respected or hated and bullied?

They are revered.

Sisters Repentia aren't sisters who've been found doing something naughty and made to serve as penitent sisters until they're considered "good" again. They are sisters who have perceived spiritual failure in themselves - either through deeds, failure of deeds or simply inner conflict - and taken the vow of the penitent.

They are seen as being on a journey to a greater spiritual strength and righteousness, not as naughty girls being given a beating by the butch mistress.

The journey is far less erotic, unfortunatly....

You will find a good description of Repentia in the BL Sororitas novel "Faith and Fire" by James Swallow.

They are shaved (heads at least)
