i was talking to a friend who had seen a sprue for the plastic scouts and he said that it only comes with 4 bolters/shottys per box. i truely hope he is mistakin as i <3 scouts alot and to spend 20$ on 2 5 man boxes and only get 8 guys i want seems evil specially since a bolter is one of their basic equips. any one else seen the sprue who could prove him wrong hopefully?

yup he's mistaken, there are five of each weapon in there.

He's correct.

You get 4 bolters/shotguns and 1 Heavy Bolter to use as a squad.

I agree with Keravin. I've seen the sprue. There are only 4 bolters and 4 shotguns.

That would follow if you had 4 bolter/shotguns and heavy bolter in a 5 man unit or 4 bolter/shotguns and a Sgt with pistol/CCW ;)

The thing about that is though, maybey you want your sarge to have the same kit as his squad, which is an option with the new dex.
Why they didn't bother to have this option viable on the sprue I dont know... :(

Or just count it as a blessing and give your Sgt a cool gun, like a stormbolter - which you must be able to dig out of your bits ;)

Or just use the heavy bolter in the squad - which I presume was their thinking. Either that or just convert a regular marine bolter to fit some of the scout shotguns hands having cut the shotgun out - different means to the same end... And who doesnt have loads of bolters lying around ;)
Hope this helps

this got on my nerves too, I like taking 10 man scout squads with all bolters, but nope.

Whatever... Since they are plastic, it's easy enough to cut away a bolter and replace it by a spare SM one.

You should have those lying around by the bucketload!!

shotguns and bolters are held differently though, and the hands are different. It is an easy conversion of coruse, but it would stand out. And it would hardly have killed them to include one more bolter and one more shotgun.

I can udnerstand leaving the sniper rifles off, but a bolter and a shotgun?

Snipers will be in another plastic boxed set possibly with a plastic missile launcher not sure if they are due out with Cityfight II or the DA codex but should be along next year.

yeah, I said I can understand them not doing those parts. LEaving off the 5th bolter/shotgun just baffles me.

shotguns and bolters are held differently though,
Bolters and bolt pistols are held the same, though... and if you're giving your scouts all bolters, you have 5 spare bolt pistol arms in the box, which leaves your Sargeant's other hand free for his Auspex, knife or trophy of your choice...

well you should have enough bolters lying around anyway

ddin't think about using the bp arms. Still, my point remains, it would have hardly been difficult for them to put in a 5th bolter and shotgun - why should we have to convert to get standard weapons options, not that I mind converting, but we shouldn't have to.. isn't that why they made them in plastic in the first place, so we wouldn't have to conver to get a decent looking squad, without every other guy being the same.

Um, no... they made them in plastic because once the mould is paid for their production costs are practically non-existent...

Funny you should mention that. I recently had to beg all my friends because I had no bolters, and I needed at least 20. No-one could believe I didn't have a ton lying around, but my main space marine armies are either bike mounted, or assault marine heavy, so I had practically no bolters.

Or, use normal SM arms with shoulder pads and call it the sarge. After all, shouldn't leaders have more armor?

I wonder, does anyone use shotguns on scouts?

I mean... BP+CCW is better, 99% of the time...

PS: YAY for Power Fist on scout sergeants... (I used a termie arm without the shoulderpad... this looks like a normal scout arm, with some mechanical help to lift the fist :p)

Insane Alex

You mean 100% of the time, right? As the Bolt Pistol+CCW is just more powerful and nets you the same number of attacks/shots.

Cheatah

Shotgun only is "better" when you move to just within 12" range... it gets you 2 shots instead of the BP one shot. But then again... moving to within 12" is kinda dumb unless you want to be charged/rapid fired to pulp.

I only said 99% as there could possibly, maybe, be a use for shotguns...

Guess not then ;)

This means GW could have skipped the shotguns on the sprue and added for example an extra bolter, a power fist, power sword, storm bolter, ...

When i finally get around to doing more scouts, i'll be using the metal shotgun scouts to augment my shotgun scout squad

I can't make a topic yet, but I have a similar question.

Why is it that the boxes come with an odd amount of parts.

For example the Tau Fire Warriors it sprue appears to come with 5 legs, 4 bodies, 5 heads, 6 pulse rifles and 3 carbon rifles. But there should be 12 warriors. So I am guessing the box comes with three of those sprues. So you have extra weapons, legs and heads. Why would someone need all those extra bits?

I guess it adds for variability, but what do you do with all those legs?

Warboss Garfang

That's actually the answer to the insane number of people trying to trade stuff for firewarrior bodies...they have too many legs.

While it looks cool, it is rather silly.

But where do the people they trade with get firewarrior bodies from? Or not many people are able to get firewarrior bodies.

i think it's more of a case that the extra legs were put there to give people an extra bit choice

Ziljin
05-03-2006, 14:13
There are also heads and weapons. All you would need is another body and more arms to make that squad of 12 into a squad of 15.

boogle
05-03-2006, 14:32
which would be pointless as the maximum squad number is 12

Ziljin
05-03-2006, 18:08
but all those extra legs and weapons will do nothing.

Concerning scouts with shotguns: they are worse than any other weapon choice?

Why do you use them when scouts with BP+CCW are better?
(not a rhetorical question, i really want to know)

maybe they don't want to max ut their squad. I am converting some scouts and I plan to have a mix of weapons to make them look like a kill team.
