Can a character join a Giant? is the giant...a monster?

I said it was silly ;).

No. Exception were DoW Giants of Albion with the Druid.

Can a character join a Giant?

Can a treeman ancient join a treeman?

30-10-2008, 10:23
I would say no. The treeman is a monster which cannot be joined.
Can a treeman ancient join anything at all? My gut feeling would say no, but that's about it... It follows 'some' rules for monsters. Does it follow this one?

Treeman Ancients specifically cannot join units.

The Giants of Albion are no exception - they are bought as a single "Regiment of Renown" but once deployed are treated normally - ie Cachtorr and Bologs are monsters with all that entails, Henghis is a character with all that entails.

Monsters/large targets can be used as mounts, but off-hand I don't recall any character or unit joining them. Dragons, Scrap Launchers, Wyverns, etcetera.

Monsters cannot be joined by characters. A treeman ancient is a character so could join unit but for a special rule saying it can't, it could not join treemen units anyway (as they are monsters).
Characters can be mounted on a monster if their book allows.

BTW, a scraplauncher is not a monster...

Check out page 6/7 in the BRB.

I once played someone who used an Icon Bearer with a Tomb Giant (I think he took a banner that gave his Giant +1 to hit or something), is this against the rules then?

30-10-2008, 12:34
Yep, he did that against the rules.

If it was before 7th edition, then it wasn't, it was a Gav-sponsored tactic.

I'm still confused as it does not say the Giant is a monster in the O&G book...

...so why can a character not join?

30-10-2008, 13:21
It doesn't say that goblins are infantry either...

Giants are monsters because they satisfy the definition of monsters in the rulebook.
