well.
I'd leave the zombies, u can summon those later in the game.
I'd take some Dire Wolves for screening and march blocks (so u can increase ur unit size even further) With 7 dire wolves(including chamion) u can use the bloodthirster trick.
This means u make a great monster charge ur dire wolves. With a maximum overkill of 5 he's obliged to fight an other turn and u can flank charge him and hopefully destroy it.

U could include a corpsecart with unholy lodestone (easier summoning) for a 100 points.
for the extra core instead of the zombies I'd take an other unit of skelletons or maybe even ghouls.

Vlad realy aint that great, sure what he does is good but his problem is that he is mid way between casting and melee, a normal Vampire lord made properly will outperform him in either role. With something as powerful as a vampire lord it pays to specialise. Manfred (in his lord form) on the other hand is an absolute beast, casting wise he's up there with the magic elite (fateweaver, telcis, kroak) what with knowing -that- many spells and having the ability to take -two- arcane items, yes that means the +1 to cats sceptre and whatever else you like. Not to mention that armour that gives him two more wounds coupled with the fact he's a vampire lord means he's no slouch in close combat either.

Wow, yeah, actually using Mannfred instead of Vlad solves a lot of my problems...

He generates 6 PD by himself, so in my list I would have 10 casting, 5 dispel, and a dispell scroll, making there no need for another caster to boost my magic. Not to mention with the Staff he would be raising at 3+, 2+ on skeletons up to 8 times.

Here is a quick revamp (not intentional).

Lord
Mannfred von Carstein
- Skull Staff
- Sceptor of Noirot
- 565 Points

Heroes
Vampire
- Infinite Hatred: Reroll hits/wounds in all rounds
- Flayed Haubark:
- Tomb Blade Each slain enemy adds a skeleton to the unit
- 175 Points

Necromancer
- Dispell Scroll
- 105 Points

Core
x20 Zombies
- 80 Points

x10 Skeletons
- Standard (War Banner [+1 CR])
- 113 Points

x10 Skeletons
- 80 Points

Special
x20 Grave Guard
- Standard, Musician, Champion
- Banner of the Dead Legion (x2 US)
- 295 Points

x6 Black Knights
- Standard, Champion
- Standard of Strigos (Hate all enemies)
- 211 Points

Rare
Varghulf
- 175 Points

Black Coach
- 200 Points

Total Points: 1,999
Power Dice: 10
Dispell Dice: 5

The Black Knights would work in concert with either the Coach or the Varghulf.

No book of arkhan? Far more useful then the scepter in my opinion, since Manny won't be casting raise dead all that often.

I am pressed for points at this stage - I wouldn't be able to fit it without dropping something else that I want. Besides, for at least the first turn he will only be casting invocation, that and raise dead in the 4th, 5th turns - That's half the game.

to point out:

You can't cast anything on a 2+, he's still casting on a 3+ just slightly harder to dispel. There is a rule that says you need more than a roll of a 2 to cast any spell.

Ah, alright. Well, still very awesome considering the opponet will likely have much less dispell di than I have casting, and can't hope to dispell half of them with 1:1

Nice list , tho you are missing one of my favorite combos, give the grave guard great weapons, the banner (cant think of the name havent got the book at hand) that gives your them +1 to hit then give one of your vampires helm of commandment. This means they will be hitting on two's and wounding most opponents on two's or three's. Not saying you have to have it or anything ive just seen it do well.

why would you want to use the banner for rerolling if you use HoC? not likely to miss a lot with 6 or 7 ws.

If you want an alternative to the varghulf, take fell bats instead. 4 is only 80 points and Manfredd can raise tham above minimum (at D6 worth of wounds no less)

Hitting on 3+ isn't all that good, and without shields they really need one of the two banners (barrows or Strigos) to help them earn back some CR. Hitting on 2+, or rerollable 3+ is reliable enough for this, but just hitting on 3+ is not.

you dont have enough PD to raise those skellies up imo.

Hell units of 10 skellies with 'only' 10 PD - 1 for coach (avg) is free victory pts.
