View Full Version : For the Greater Good - A Tau Log

Hi All,

I have had a tau army sitting in boxes for the last 5 years. I always intended to get around to making them however one thing or another always seemed to get in the way.

Anyhow, This year I finally managed to move out of the folks house and into a flat so seeing as I had more space and time to myself I Decided to 'finally' assemble and paint those models:

Say hello to my Commander and his bodyguard. The Twin fusion blaster model was my test piece as a proof of concept for the colour scheme. I wanted to make the poses as dynamic as possible so I decided to put them all on flying stands. The AFP model was a later addition, as you can see I have bent one of the legs as I was getting more comfortable with the kit.

When painting the Ethereal I tried to maintain the look and feel of the army while trying to give a more regal feel. I used more black to help contrast with the Blue of the skin and gems.

This is my first battlesuit squad. Ive gone for a fairly common loadout to deal with MEQ's. Unfortunatly for me most of my opponents have gone Ork mad so this unit is not as useful as it might of been. Again I have gone for an 'in flight' look to try and give the models some motion.

I painted my stealthsuits with a very restricted pallet and gone for a very dark finish to represent their 'Stealth' aspect. I brought these models before the new stealth suits came out however I do prefer these.

I'll start the troops with my Kroot. Now I was not expecting alot from these as they were a pain to pur together. However it was these models that convinced me that the new citadel washes are the best thing since sliced bread (in terms painting anyhow). Never have I had to use so little (relative) effort to create such a fantastic finish. TBH the picture does not do these models justice.

This is my first Firewarrior team. The speckled finish was actually a spray can accident however the finish works and I am happy with the look

2nd Firewarrior team.

Firewarrior's with pulse carbines.

My pathfinders were brought before sniper drones so I have 3 rail rifles.

Pathfinders devilfish

If I had thought about it at the time I should have switched the Rail Guns and Smart Missile System around however one of the first models I assembled was a Broadside and it had been sitting to one side awaiting painting for the last 5 years.

The Railgun is magnetized so I can switch between this or an Ion Canon

So what next for my Tau army. Well, my next battlesuit team is assembled.

As you can see I am much more confident with the kit so these are much more dynamic. Ive tried to give the impression of either Jumping, Running or Landing/Falling back.

As you can see my Burst cannon have been mounted 'under arm' I like the asthetics of this look much better than the side mounted gun and gives a much cleaner look.

After these are done I'll put together one more unit of Kroot and another Hammerhead. Let me know what you folks think please as comments are always welcome.

What, no love for mister GP?
Well, I'll bite.

These are looking good from where I'm sat sir. A good solid scheme carried over very nicely. Can you do a close shot of two or three of the Firewarriors? I'd like to see a close up.

I agree swapping the Rail Rifles and missile pods looks cool on Broadsides, but they still look nice. Good to see the older Stealth teams too. I like them.

Did you get all this in Carousel? Surely their stock has never been this encompassing has it?

Hope all i good with yourself.
