Well, with my EC's dissapearing to France, and my nids to vanish somewhere too, I'm going to be down to 0 40k armys painted very soon, EEK!

I had been meaning to slowly work on my orks here and there, but that's just not going to be an option now! I have been fairly keen on the orks ever since some nasty little inside man leaked a copy of the half finished codex to the interwebs before it was finished and released.

So after flitting between a million different themes, ranging from everything between KoS and a walkey burney list, I decided on a list of a big meks workshop. It also gave me an excuse to use the trash bases by Micro Art Studios, after seeing them in Hortworths freeboota blog.

So all up, the list for now is looking like : A couple of Big Meks, some Lootas, some Killer Kanz, Deff Dreadz (one of which I plan to use a plane for!), koptas, buggies, boyz, a trukk and even some gretchin helpers :D (can't wait for the wave 2 plastic gretchin!).

Anywho,

I quickly whipped up a test figure;

http://proximity.orconhosting.net.nz/Figures/Orks/Orktest1.jpg

and then lept into the first unit!

http://proximity.orconhosting.net.nz/Figures/Orks/Orklootas1.jpg

http://proximity.orconhosting.net.nz/Figures/Orks/Orklootas2.jpg

http://proximity.orconhosting.net.nz/Figures/Orks/Orklootas3.jpg

In my usual fashion, I've taken the photos late at night with a single light, which makes the brights look bright, and anything else look pitch black compared to what it looks like in the flesh ;) Sigh!

Anywho, with a month off over dec/jan - I'm hoping to put some serious dents in the models that need painting.

Great looking models so far! Always nice to see a fellow bad moon painter :D
The blue parts are a very nice addition to the yellow ones.

Hooray for more bad moons!! I dig the nice clean paint job, the small patches of colour really stand out.

Keep this style going and you're gonna have one snazzy army.

Can't wait to see more. :D

H'ok... Time for some long overdue updates. I've got a fair bit painted, will take a bit of time to fix up photos, so I'll post them up as I go.

First up, the first Big Mek with Kustom Force Field is done, what a fun model to paint!

So I had the right number of bases... undercoated them on my balcony on a particularly windy day - then left them to dry. Long story short, I could only find 2/3 in the bushes next door :( Now I have to order another at some point!

It's actually using the foundations, first I do orkshade green, then knarloc green, then I mix a bit of Tallarn Flesh into the Knarloc green, before mixing a little more in for the final edge hilight.

geraint, each time I'm finished playing with an army, I sell it - which is more than enough to cover the next army, all other wargaming costs for the year and a tournament or two overseas in Australia.
Warhammer hasn't really cost me anything at all for a while now effectively.

Man, that battle wagon is really nice. The blue and yellow bits stand out from the perfectly simple, yet amazing metal. And the Big Mek is just stunning. I really mean it. But what are you to expect from the same lad who made them wonderful pre-heresy EC? Can't wait to see theme Meganobs done!

The burna extension on badrukk is rather snazzy too, not so keen on badrukks lipstick though, sorry!

Haha, yeah im thinking I need to tone it down a bit to match the rest of the orks. The main thing that makes it look like lippy is that his top gum is also exposed, so if you dont look closely it looks like a lip :<

Seconded, but my word, keep this kind of work up and I may just forgive you. I love the Badrukk conversion, extremely Bad Moonish. I guess you need a mek with all those Kans. Meganobs are promising too, are they going to have the gobs put on?

The liberal application of blue is unique, it really works, but Freud would say you have a subconsious obsession with Deathskulls.

The yellow is:
Iyanaden Darksun -> Half Iyanaden, half sunburst -> badmoon yellow -> badmoon yellow + white

The blue is:
Mordian Blue -> Ultramarines Blue -> Ultramarines + white -> Ultramarines + more white

I should take some pics of some other stuff I've done over the last couple of weeks, but I finished up this test meganob, and have started the yellow on 3 others for a unit that will be 8 strong in total.

The yellow hilights are a bit extreme for now, I went a stage too far, I intend to tone it back a little, its shown me that the unit doesnt look over powering with that much yellow on it though, which was the purpose of the test figure :)

the yellow is definately too bright. Maybe some shading could help? I don't know if you mind using washes, but some gryphonne sepia in the recesses of yellow armor-parts worked wonders on my Bad Moons.

Great stuff, but the Meganob is a bit overwhelming. Why not paint the body metal and limit most of the bright color to the shoulders and head? Look at the Battlewagon, which is mostly dark with a few spots of color.

Left to do are another 30 boyz, 12 trukk boyz to go in that trukk, and another 2 deffkoptas to go with those 3.

I'll assess at that point whether I want to do more orks, or whether I want to move onto another army :]
