EDIT over,

Hello all,

Well, here goes! Just signed up to warseer, looking for some motivation to get on with some of the projects I've got on the bench.

I'll start with a few pics of my most recent work. Human Blood Bowl team,

Team shot,

Blitzers,

Linemen,
http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL92/9374494/17143183/347032625.jpg

I'm not joking, I've had these models for at least ten years, started painting them 2 years ago and in the last week finally motivated myself to finish them.
I think these boys are destined for ebay as I have no use for them, loooong time since I played BB.

My next goal is to finish a converted Night goblin BB team (again about ten years in progress).
I'll post again with some WIP's of them.

In the future gonna be painting a wide variety of things (all GW tho). I'll post again with an exhaustive list of all the models I want to get done!

Thanks for looking!

C&C is very welcome!

Quick update,

Thought I'd post a couple of pics of what I'm currently working on.

First up, some Night Goblins for BB. Converted from the old regiment box (love those models!). Very simple, weapon removed, round base and done.
Here's 3 I've finished, I've got a full team in progress.

http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL92/9374494/17143183/347145814.jpg

Here's a couple of Star Player conversions. Pogo-stick and bomber. Painting in progress, but pretty happy with the conversions on these 2. Pogo-stick guy was an old fanatic model, bomber was just plastic with green stuff added, 1 of the bombs was made from the spare ball and chain from the fanatic!

http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL92/9374494/17143183/347145811.jpg

And lastly, here's a few Orks I've got on the go. Just about finished 20 shoota boyz, here's some of them.

http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL92/9374494/17143183/347145816.jpg

I've got lots more Orks to do! Worked out a list for a 1000pts and am currently working towards that as a goalpost, but could probably field 2000pts if I rummaged thru all my fig cases!

Sorry about the dark pics, need to sort out proper camera/lighting set up.
Thanks for looking. Feedback welcome!

Hello, these models are really cool. Did you paint on the numbers yourself or are they transfers? I do like the goblin conversions and think that they will look great when the whole team has been finished.

These are some very nice models. I particularly like your Human BB team - the skin tones and the blending on the white areas are very good.

Hope to see more soon.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Long overdue update!
Sold the human team on eBay, got 40 for them! Not bad!

My Night Goblin BB team is nearly finished. All the players are done, just got to finish off the Troll and star players. These will go on eBay too!
I'm trying to have a good clearout so I can concentrate on my main 40K armies, orks, eldar & marines! I've got a lot of misc models that are just taking up space.

Will take pics of team soon.

Wayhay. The boy milla got skills. :D

Love the contrast on those Night goblins and the converted bomber and pogosticker are top draw. The human bloodbowl team has a +2 to its fan factor just for being painted so bloomin well.

They took far too long! Not long in terms of actual painting time, but ages in terms of distractions!

Well, I'm really on a roll, here's another update.

Here's a WIP of Felix
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/364271477.jpg
I've done a bit more on him since I took the pic. The stripes on the trousers are finished and I've done a bit on the cloak.
He along with Gotrek will be going on eBay (see a theme developing?)

Here's my biggest source of distraction over the last few months.
New space marine project.
I wanted to do a strictly codex chapter.
WIP's

Sergeant. His arms are magnetized for easy weapon swap!
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/364271479.jpg

Here's standard ass marine.

Trying to push the boat out on the shoulder pads.
I'm pretty pleased with how the freehand work has turned out.

Anyone know what chapter?

As always feedback is very welcome.

Great, great painting! Every mini looks stunning, will you post a link if you put your stuff up on ebay?

Anyone know what chapter?

Not sure about the green shoulder pad trims, apart from that it looks pretty much Black Consuls to me.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I`m jealous of Felix I`m hunting one on ebay

I didn't realise he was difficult to get hold of, you after Gotrek too?

What size army are you aiming for on the space marines?

Not entirely sure! I've got 2 ten man tac squads, ten man assault, 3 bikes and chaplain so far (all WIP)
I just picked up commander and a dev squad box this weekend (I shouldn't have but couldn't help myself).
I may try to collect half a company, seems like a good target.

Not sure about the green shoulder pad trims, apart from that it looks pretty much Black Consuls to me.

It is Black Consuls! Green trims for 4th Company.
I wanted to do a very strictly Codex chapter, so BC seemed a good choice.
I thought the codex markings would really stand out against black armour too.
I will paint the bikers with orange or purple trims (can't remember which without looking in the book!) to designate 6th or 7th reserve company.
One of them is trained to use bikes!

Love the converted po-goer - very cool conversion.

Thank you! It's one of my favourite conversions to date. I did it about ten years ago and just recently finished off the painting.

will you post a link if you put your stuff up on ebay?

Yes, the goblin team will be going on eBay this week hopefully. I've got a friend who sells them for me ( I can't be bothered with packing/posting etc).
I'll put a link up when it goes on.
A lot of stuff from this log will probably go on eBay eventually, but I'll post links as and when.

Thanks for all the comments.

The felix is also really nice and really stands out for me.

Fantastic work and quite a diverse and eclectic collection!

Thanks again for all the kind words, really has helped keep me motivated!

Here's a small update, done a bit more on felix.

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/364917372.jpg

Trousers are done. Cloak needs a bit more work, could do with red ink glazes, to take away the orangeyness.
There's a bit more depth to it IRL, I think the flash has washed it out.
I'll probably finish the skin next (my wife said he looked like he'd been tango'd!).

Thanks for looking!

Keep the comments comin!

BM

sea.man
21-05-2009, 07:17
hi,
IMO the orangeyness is ok. I would add more shades (mix with some brown), to make the cloak less flat.

BoyMilla
24-05-2009, 09:50
Hi all,

@sea.man, thanks, I may try that. It does look better IRL, I snapped the pictures in a hurry so the lighting was a bit rubbish, I think the flash has made it look a lot flatter.

I was thinking of trying a thin green wash on the cloak for shading as it's opposite on the colour wheel.
Not really tried it before, but the technique does interest me!

Anyone got any advice on this?

Not been in the mood for painting last few evenings tho so I made a start on the dev's.

Here's what I've got so far, some of it's just blu-tacked for now.

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/365178641.jpg

My brother's got some spare missile launchers so I'll go for 4 in the squad.
I also had some spare legs so I did these.

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/365178639.jpg

I'll add these to the 2 tactical squads I've got in progress.

And lastly, Here's a plastic chaplain for the army.

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/365178640.jpg

I was quite pleased with how this turned out. He's blu-tacked to his base for the time being, I'm gonna build it up a bit, add some detail.

Hopefully do some painting tonight, try to finish off Felix.

Thanks for looking!

The natural light was pretty good today, think this is the closest I've got so far to how it actually looks.
Bit more work to do on the cloak still, need to graduate the shading a bit more. I added a few deeper shades to it.
Need to finish the eyes, I always get scared at this stage of messing things up.

Pretty happy with how he's turning out. I'll make a start on Gotrek once he's finished.

C&C welcome.

@sea.man. Thanks mate! Not sure if I'm totally happy yet but it's definitely getting there!

@The Laughing God. Thanks, the model been a lot of fun to paint! As for the flesh I started with Dwarf flesh, followed by a wash of watered down Dark flesh.
Then I highlighted with tanned flesh, dwarf flesh, dwarf flesh/elf flesh mix, then very fine with elf flesh.

I kept going back over it with washes of dwarf flesh/dark flesh mix to tie together each highlight stage till I was happy.

Sorry it's quite long winded, I just experimented with washes and highlights until it looked ok.

Hope that helps.

Took a pic of Felix, not the best light but you get the idea!

I also finished off the first assault marine.

Next up will be Gotrek, trying to get the beard right atm. Once I get that right I think the rest of the model will fall into place.
Anyone got any good recipes for painting slayer beards?

Also, coming soon, I've got the Orks from the Black Reach set that I'll be working on. Wanna try to do a quick turn around to sell on.

Yup, and the markings can't even tell if they are transfers or freehand.
Holy crap indeed!

Thanks very much guys!
All the makings are freehand, been trying to push myself a bit. I found tho that a decent brush helps immensely with both freehand and with the highlighting, can get really sharp edge highlights.
I recently picked up WN series 7 and I think it's really helped to push my painting up a notch.

Loving your style, the Human BB team in particular are stunning - always impressed when people manage to get that really crisp white to work out.

BTW how did you do the power sword on the Sergeant?

Thanks man, glad you like the BB team, I had fun painting them.

The power sword is far from finished, I was trying to copy one from codex SM, a salamander captain had a cool purple PS.
I worked it up from a white undercoat, with enchanted and regal blue, fading to black.
It needs a lot of work still. I'll post more pics when I've done some more on him.

Oh, and my Goblin team sold! Got 212 for them! :) I was a bit gobsmacked!
Wanna do more BB stuff now!

Sorry no pics, not done much painting. Been cleaning/assembling stuff. Should really knuckle down to some painting tho!

WIP of Gotrek,

Need to start highlighting now.

Been workin on some Black Reach Nobs as well,

Trying to get these done relatively quickly (I paint slow, but find orks a bit quicker) and stick em on ebay. Can't wait till my collection is a much more manageable size!

Anyway, thanks for looking!

Yeah, will sell Felix and Gotrek together. S'pose I'll have to finish Gotrek:p

I will put the marines up on B&C, but I'll probably wait until some of my other stuff is finished so I can focus more on them and do regular updates!

@sea.man, I think this version of F&G were internet/direct only (could be wrong!), they were released around the same time as 5th ed WH (think it was 5th, the one with empire/orcs in the box). I like the models you have tho, got a more classic feel!

Ork skin looks better IRL, again bad photos!

Beautiful skin on those orks!

Thanks guys! I'm glad you like the skin! I generally paint my orks as Goffs, so I like the skin to stand out and leave almost everything else black or brown.

I'm pretty pleased with how they're looking, hopefully won't take long to finish now that the skin's done!

Thanks for your comments everyone!

Fantastic looking log so far, quick question for you though. what's the recipe for the green?

cheers!

Thanks man, no problem.
Base: orkhide shade,
1st highlight: knarloc green,
2nd highlight: goblin green,
3rd highlight: goblin green+golden yellow (about 75%, 25%),
4th highlight: goblin green+bleached bone (about 50, 50)

I apply the highlights leaving last colour showing in recesses. With highlight 3 and 4 I apply it in lines along the muscle. If I overdo it with the highlights I use thraka green wash to tone it down.
Normally, when painting boyz I miss off highlight 3 for speed.

Hope this helps!

Brilliant! They look really badass. And I can't tell they're varnished - what brand of varnish do you use?

Thanks! I've used GW purity seal, tbh tho I don't love it. I've had a few problems with it in the past. It can give a frosted look to models if you're not careful. You have to really shake it up for ages!
I think my preferred method for varnishing is ardcoat/dullcote combo, but I've not got much dullcote left so I'm saving it.

The muscles on them Orks look SICK! Really nice. Are they going to be Goffs?

Thanks! Yup, they're Goffs. The plan atm is to paint up a Black Reach set and sell it on but I do have more orks (lots of Boyz, few kans, dread, meganobz). The army selection suited Goffs so when I finish these guys I may keep goin with orks and sell it as one big army. It depends on how I feel at the time/ how long it takes. I'm trying to downsize!

Thanks for the comments!

5 of 20 done! Just got to keep focussed now.
Might finish 10, then do the deffkoptas, then 10 more boyz and finish with the Warboss. Just to mix it up a bit.

I've signed up for the tale of 40K painters for next year as well.
Gonna try 1500 of Eldar. Gonna do an Iyanden Spirit Host. I've been collecting the models I need for the force slowly and resisting the urge to start painting them for months. Looking forward to getting stuck into em!
I'll probably put WIP's in this log as well as whatever else I have time to paint each month. Hopefully be a productive year.

@Daniel36. I know what you mean about the models. I did try simpler test colours to start with but just wasn't happy. I do really like the black reach models tho, so I don't mind spending a bit more time on them. I may try again devising a faster method, as I've got another set of BR models and about 50 boyz to do at some point.

I use Chaos black base,

then I wash with watered down chaos black,

Thought I'd update my tale progress here for a change, just to keep everyone on their toes!

It was all going so well! I was trying to finish off the first DA, I was so close, but the multiple thin layers of white were doing my head in so I thought a bit of assistance in the drying department was called for.
Enter my wife's dodgy hairdryer! It's a bit broke! It has only one temperature, bloomin hot! I have used it before, but this time I wasn't fully concentrating, and...

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/371922346.jpg

As you can see his shoulder shrivelled and he can now shoot round corners!
D'oh! Thankfully I have spare DA arms and torso so I can replace them, but I was a bit peeved for being so stupid!

Anyway, that was last week. Have since made progress on DA no 2.
He's finished!

That is lovely, so crisp and smooth. Especially the white. Shame about the accident, I guess it was a learning experience! :)

I think Dante's suggestion of a rune on the forehead would look good. Alternatively, another option would be to do stripes on the crest. Black ones perhaps?

If you're on deadline though perhaps you can leave a descision till some others are done? If it were me I'd certainly be happy to call a figure of that quality finished.

@Daniel36. Thanks mate, yeah the base is just the one that comes with the wraithlord. I added some slate from the 40K basing kit and some gravel/sand. I paint the earthy areas scorched brown, drybrush graveyard earth, then bleached bone. I paint the rocky parts 50:50 chaos black:codex, then drybrush codex, then lightly with skull white. I'll add some static grass to finish.

@I shaded the yellow by mixing a bit of dark flesh with sunburst yellow and applied in careful washes. For the deep recesses I painted fine lines of pure dark flesh. Hope that helps!

Warlock is comin on well, hopefully get done by weekend!

Got a squad of 10 for the army. Need to get 3 more and warlock finished to have enough points for my tale entry this month. Not too sure if that's gonna happen. Had hoped to get loads of painting done and have a good chill over the hols but an unexpected job came up to scupper my plans.

Thanks for looking!

The finished Wraithlord looks great and the Wraithguard is excellent too, especially the gems :D
I hope you get time to finsish your entry, the To40kP can be a pretty tough boss. Just a slight change of plans and it's deadline-panic ;)

That is some slick looking Eldar there. . . Well done.

Do you keep a track of how long you spend on each mini? Just wondering how long the Wraithlord and Farseer took. Please tell me they took weeks - I'd be gutted if you threw them together over a couple evenings ! ! !

Keep em coming. Enjoying the plog.

It's deadline panic alright! I've been snowed off today :) so that's gonna help my chances considerably!

Thanks! I've not really kept track of how long I take. I think if I did I'd be depressed! I'm slow! plus I don't get that many opportunities to paint, sometimes 1or2 evenings a week, sometimes none.
To guestimate, I think the Farseer took about 10hrs and the WL probably about 15.

Thanks very much for the comments!

Now that you mention it, I probably should of done the gem a different colour. I was finishing him in a bit of a rush. I'll probably leave it as it is now, cos he's varnished.

And because it's cohesive with all the other gems, and it's really no biggie since the gold rim puts it apart from the blade.

I'm trying for 1500pts, I'm doing it for the tale of 40K painters. I should have 900pts by now but am lagging a bit behind. I need to step things up to get back on track, tho even if I manage 1000pts it'll be the biggest army I've ever finished! Not sure about IF, never been a huge fan, but maybe a small Lamenters force?
Also I like the idea of being able to play really bad and still call it fluffy!

Crisp and impressive Iyanden BM!

Well, as you asked so nicely ;)
I start with a basecoat of sunburst yellow,
Then carefully paint dark flesh into the recesses,
Then touch up any messy bits with skull white, then reapply sunburst yellow,
I then use a few glazes of dark flesh which helps to tie the layers together and tone down the brightness of the yellow,
Then selective highlight with sunburst, and then skull white on upmost edges.

Hope that helps, sorry if I've not explained myself very well, ask again if you want any more info. It definitely sounds more involved than it actually is.

And lastly here's what I've been working on, finished a full squad of Wraithguard,
http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL92/9374494/17143183/385803697.jpg

So am I right in supposing that you don't blackline? You simply use dark flesh to act as your darkest colour at the interface between, say, the various plates in the feet/ankle/shin?

Those Eldar are amazing. With the Dark Flesh glaze, are you coving all of the yellow with the first glaze ? I assume if you are using a few glazes you're progressively covering less area and working back towards the shading, yeah ?

Out of interest, I see you sprayed the basecoat on some stuff. did you have any problems with the yellow going a bit orange if you sprayed too much ?

Edit, also, would you mind telling me the ratios in your glaze, please.

Thanks mate, the dark flesh glaze is difficult to explain, not sure on the ratios, its quite watery. It's almost like tinted water. The aim is not to flood the model with it but a controlled wash to tint the brightness off the yellow. I hope that makes sense.
On the wraithguard I only did one layer of glaze, whereas on the guardians I did 2-3 and worked it into the recesses.

Out of interest, I see you sprayed the basecoat on some stuff. did you have any problems with the yellow going a bit orange if you sprayed too much ?

Not too many problems, I did add a tiny amount of dark flesh into a pot of sunburst to make the yellow cover slightly better.

And for everyone who's been waiting for the falcon.........
You may have seen this already if you check out the tale of 40K painters.

Very nice work, quite nice having the larger plate on the grav platform as it will tie the tanks/bigger models in with the squad colour-wise. I like the free hand too, very neat as usual!

I'd reward myself with one of the Aspects before doing another block of Guardians, then do the other Aspect squad (or even do it Aspect Warriors, 5 Guardians, Aspect, 5 Guardians). That way you don't get bogged down in too much yellow!

Thanks, I'm really pleased with how the yellows gone, though it's not quick, but then nothing I paint seems to be!

Thanks, though, these were some of the last minis I did before the break. Just had a few finishing touches and grav platform to paint this week.
Did some more painting over the weekend. No pics yet, will wait till the squad is finished, but finished another Dire Avenger!
2 to go!
Thanks for looking, C&C as always welcome.

@Spekkiebig. Thanks man, I've put everything I'm not painting away out of reach so I'm not distracted (I'm easily distracted!).
The Space Hulk set has been in my thoughts lately but I must resist until my Eldar are finished. I'm thinking similar yellow, but try some battle damage.

@ArtificerArmour. Thanks, the yellow takes long enough to do, though I'm pleased with the results.

Woot!! 10 Pages!! Feels like a big achievement for me!

Well, didn't have much painting time over the weekend but been getting up early and doing 1/2hour before work.
Finished another Avenger this morning (well just rune on forehead to paint).
1 to go, and he's quite far along. Hopefully all finished and pics by the weekend.

Thanks for looking.

Hi All!
Got finished with my Dire Avengers! Did finish them at the weekend, its just taken me a few days to find time to do pics, but here we go...

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/407383911.jpg

And a close up of one of the more recently finished ones,
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/407383910.jpg

Just got static grass to do on a couple of minis. I went back over the finished ones plumes, adding a bit more shading/highlight, just to add some depth, can't really see on the pics. The first few I rushed cos I was taking part in the Tale of 40k Painters and trying to make a deadline, but I thought, they've waited this long, why not spend a bit more time making them how you want them.
So glad these are done! I've loved painting these models but it's taken me 4 years to get them done, so good to finally have another squad finished, I'll have to get everything out and do an army shot at some point.

Anyway while I had camera out, I took some WIP's of my next squad. I started this last year and was very happy with how it was turning out, just got to remember now exactly what colours I used.
Love these models, some of the nicest in the Eldar range IMHO,

Fire dragon is looking great. Will you be painting runes on the helmet too? Would be nice feature foe the aspects.

BoyMilla
19-08-2013, 06:10
Thanks Blaze, yeah I'll do aspect symbol in white I think. Should stand out nicely against the dark blue helmet.
Plan is to go back and add runes to the other bits I've done too, wraithguard/falcon etc (check back a few pages for these).

To finish the army I have some scorpions, another guardian squad, a wave serpent. These will bring me to around 1500pts in the old codex, hardly ever play so haven't picked up the new dex yet. Not sure whether to get some of the new bits to add, maybe some wraithblades/guard, wraithknight.
The plan had been to sell it once finished to fund future hobby projects but I'm not sure at what stage to call time?

Anyway, rubbish painting weekend! Warseer has completely distracted me from getting anything done:D
Need to step it up again this week.

Well again, spending too much time on Warseer, rather than painting :shifty:

Thought I'd stick up a picture of the small beginnings of an upcoming project.

Just the ammo runt from the nobz box (got a couple off eBay), with a weapon swap and plasticard knuckleduster.
I've told myself I cannot paint him until the eldar I have are finished, see how long that resolve lasts:D

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what the project is?

Ahem...... later than planned, I've finished the first fire dragon.
September turned out to be a crazy busy month so painting went on the back burner.

He just needs a coat of matt and some grass.

The rest of the squad are in varying stages.

Well, not as quick as I would've liked but, still much better than my previous breaks, I'm back with another update.

First off, Fire dragons.

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/408615695.jpg

The last one & Exarch are nearly there. It's funny, haven't touched my paints/brushes for months, then 2 weeks ago got the desire back and went for it.

Also did this test for my Striking scorpions. Only started him yesterday evening, (What's going on?)

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/408615693.jpghttp://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/408615697.jpg

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/408615698.jpghttp://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/408615696.jpg

Been unsure how to go about the scorpions colourwise, as I wanted them to tie in with the rest of the army but felt torn about not having any green.
In the end I'm actually very happy with how he's looking. I decided to go for the "stealth" look all in black.
I also wanted to have them with a different colour head to body. I've always found it odd that most of the eldar craftworlds and aspects have 2-colour schemes, except for scorpions?!

I'll make no promises about when I'll post next but I am feeling quite motivated atm.

Thanks for looking everyone. As always comments, criticism and questions very welcome.

Fire Dragons look lovely, scheme looks nice and fiery but still enough yellow to tie into the rest of the army. Scorpion definitely works too, maybe give the black a slight gloss coat for a more natural bug carapace look? Love the blue helm and yellow to again tie into main army, plus the yellow stripes on black also bring to mind the colours of a dangerous arachnid.

Awesome stuff, bro!

Thanks everyone for all your comments, sorry I'm a bit rubbish at replying, I like not to post unless I have something to show or report. Just to say I do really appreciate the comments.

@MaxSigmund. You're exactly right! The snot is for an all plastic (even the vehicles) rebel grot mob for GoMo that I'm slowly building (not painting!)! I would love to do some more plastic mobs in the future, maybe even try some digga & mutie conversions (probably be a long way off as I have told myself I cannot paint anything else other than my current project).

Eldar update: Well, the fire dragon exarch is nearly finished, just got his weapon arm to paint and attach. He's been in this state of completion for weeks but just haven't been able to find/make the time to get him over the line.

Anyway, main reason for my post today is I just backed my first kickstarter project!
Tokaido: Collector's Edition!
Recently I have really enjoyed playing some board games. Games like King of Tokyo, Takenoko & Settlers of Catan.
Had a few games nights and even non-gamers have enjoyed playing.

I saw this kickstarter and thought I must have it!! I've watched a few vids of the gameplay and it looks great. Very easy and family/non-gamer friendly too. The minis are very cool too. The expected delivery is November so expect to see some of minis appear here (as long as I've finished my eldar that is). Anyway, thought I'd post and link as I know a lot here like chibi minis and board games, check it out! (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/funforge/tokaido-collectors-edition)

Thanks all for looking, I'll try n do some more painting soon, honest.

Time for my bi-annual update :D

Work on my Eldar has stalled somewhat. I did finish the fire dragons and was working on the scorpions, but then lost interest.
After not painting for a good few months I thought I'd be better painting what I feel like painting, rather than telling myself I must paint this or that and end up painting nothing.

So, in April I backed the KS for SDE: The Forgotten King. My goal has been to start collecting and painting the existing models trying to get as much done before the KS is delivered. So far I've picked up the base game, a rock top gang, a dragon clutch spawn group & captain R.
I got the rock tops and dragons cheap on eBay so didn't get the unique treasure cards but I figure the KS will come with the upgrade deck for older cards anyway. I've played a few games and love it. Looking forward to the new arcade rules which will allow for solo play.

I love the Rock Top Gang! So started with them. Here's the Crusher,

And here's a Roller,
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/410144312.jpghttp://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/410144311.jpg

Sorry for the dark pics, need to retake these, but you get the idea.

Another Roller and 3 slowpokes being worked on currently. I'm finding these a lot of fun to paint.
Hopefully that will bode well for productivity.

Anyway, as always C&C very welcome.

Thanks Jonahmaul, I'm happy with the money I'm getting. I'll never make a "wage" out of painting cos I'm not quick enough, but if I get back the money I spent plus a bit extra then that's fine for me.
I would love to reach the stage where the hobby funds itself. Do a few commissions, and with the profits be able to buy things that I want to keep for myself. That's the dream anyway.

Update report:
SDE
All of the Slowpokes are finished! Yay! Just 2 Bombardiers, 2 Shells & 2 Spawn points to finish my first spawn group.
It's a shame the shell markers are not needed in arcade mode as I will mostly be playing that.
I'm really looking forward to having enough painted to play a fully painted game of SDE.

For a 3 hero game I'll need;
3 heroes,
3 spawn points of monsters (so nearly there),
6 pets (though they might not be drawn from the treasure deck),
6 creeps,
3 treasure chests (+boo bootys though again they may not be needed),
at least 1 mini boss
1 dungeon boss.

I'm away and don't have the paints with me this weekend so am continuing prepping/cleaning/filing some of my FK goodies.
There's so much stuff!!

Oh my God tell me about it... and my wave 2 stuff should be on its way soon! Lovely work on the eldar, although the black scorpion armour looks flat compared to your other stuff. Looking forward to seeing your slowpokes! What heroes/bosses are you thinking of going for?

BoyMilla
27-07-2015, 08:05
Yeah, I know what you mean with the scorpy armour. I tried a satin varnish on them instead of my usual matt. I wanted to make them a little shiny like real scorpions but I'm not sure I like it as it makes it harder to see the highlights. Think I may go over them again with a coat of matt.

Boss wise I have Goro, Forgotten King & Starfire. Starfire's all prepped so be easiest to do him but i may go for Goro just because I like him.

Mini bosses, I'm thinking Captain R & Salt first.

And with the heroes I'm really not sure? I have the base game v1, FK and all the heroes from "always super" fully cleaned and bases GS'd. I love the wandering minstrel model so might start with him. I'm a bit nervous of starting the heroes as I will be trying my hand at NMM on my SDE stuff and don't want to mess them up.
Oh, just remembered I have the RK heroes too and I love those so they may make an appearance soon. Any hero anyone wants to see first?

@Jonahmaul - Thanks!

So, I've been plugging away with more eldar, but I've been distracted from SDE stuff with a small fun project.
The theme of Yaktribe's latest competition was 3 ages of the same model.
So you do 3 versions of the same model, 1 at starting exp (juve or yoof)
1 with a few exp boosts (so ganger or boy)
& 1 at high exp level (maybe mighty ganger, leader or nob).

I thought the idea was pretty cool, so thought I'd have a go with Rebel Grots for GoMo.

The deadline was the 19th, voting finishes next week. Here's my entry

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/411660260.jpg

I have more models to do a full mob, so in time I'll show more here. A while ago I started a grot cutta as well, so I need to finish that at some point.

Anyway, distraction over, back to eldar and SDE. I need to get a riddle on with SDE, there's another SDE kickstarter starting in a few months, I'll be swamped with unfinished chibis at this rate.

Thanks for looking!

Great idea for a theme and awesome stuff on the choice of models and the painting is smooth and top notch as always. I love how much stuff he gains as he becomes a boss. Which models have you used? Is there any conversion? One minor criticism is I feel like the bases could do with a bit more work, maybe some tufts of grass or litter? As they are they look pretty plain and I feel models such as this (especially if they're going in a competition) should have a bit more to them.

BoyMilla
23-09-2015, 18:43
@AceRimmer - Thanks

@Jonahmaul - Thanks, I'm not sure about the bases myself. I left them quite plain cos I have in mind making some magnetic scrap counters so wanted to make sure there was enough space to accommodate them later, but they do look a bit bare.
The pics don't show that well, but I used both Agrellan earth (GW cracking desert paint) and Armageddon dust (GW textured paint) to vary the texture.
I did them in bit of a rush to get the competition entry in on time but may revisit them again later.

With the models used, the snot is the ammo runt from the Nobz box with weapon swaps. The knuckleduster is made from plasticard.
The grots are just from the gretchin kit. I again added a knuckleduster from plasticard on the middle model. I also had to sculpt his ear back as the goggled head has part of his ear missing.
The Head Honcho has the most work. I cut off the booted feet of one of the grots to add onto trousered legs. The hat is from Nork Deddog's vox caster.
The shoota and strap are made out of plasticard. The 6 shootas barrel has been replaced/made longer with some plasticard tube.
Here are some WIP pics,

Back again!
This time more Eldar.
10 more guardians.

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412241110.jpg

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412241113.jpg

The pics have come out a bit dark, need to play with my camera settings again. Also my faded blue to white backdrop has seen better days so it's back to a sheet of plain paper.
This time I painted all of the weapon options for the grav platform.

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412241115.jpg

Lastly, while I was painting these I realised that I'd glued an uncovered head onto a female body but the uncovered head just looked too masculine, even for space pansies. I probably should have just left it but it was bugging me, so I shaved down the nose a bit, cut off the mouth and re-sculpted with a fuller lip. I wasn't sure it'd worked until I put paint on it but I'm really happy with the result. Hopefully you see what I mean from the pic. She's on the right :p

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412241111.jpg

Ok, off to bed now. Back soon, hopefully tomorrow, with more pics. Next up will be the tweaked and finished falcon.
Also have a Wave Serpent very nearly completed & some plastic Wraithguard waiting in the wings.

Thanks for looking! C&C welcome.

Yellow is difficult to get right. You got it more than right. Your paint job also gives off that 90s vibe that got me into the hobby. Not sure why, but that's what it makes me feel. Wonderful job! Keep it up!

Thanks Daniel! I got into the hobby early 90's too so maybe that style is embedded in my psyche!
Though I draw the line at orange/red bolter casings on ultramarines:D

Anyway some pics of the Falcon,

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412242140.jpg

I've added a few blue panels just to break up the yellow a bit, and some freehand symbols.
Still can't quite seem to find the right camera settings, I really need to make a note of them.

Also, a WIP of the Wave Serpent,
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412242148.jpg

And some features,
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412242147.jpg

I mounted a magnet under the drivers seat compartment and....

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412242145.jpg

a magnet on the top gun mount....

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412242146.jpg

and magnets on the gun attachment point and in the guns themselves so it will be possible to interchange between shuriken catapults/cannon.

That's probably my pic limit so back in a sec...........

Also on the workbench, Wraithguard!

I've had more fun with magnets with these guys.
D Scythes?
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412242144.jpg
Or Wraithcannons?
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412242143.jpg

The arms on the WG are paired together so I've colour coded the attachment points so they can't be mixed up
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL92/9374494/17143183/412242149.jpg

That's all for now, back off to work on painting the Wave serpent.
Thanks for looking!

I'm finding that yellow is fiendishly difficult to get a good picture of, especially on larger models. It keeps washing out the blends/mixes up to white.
Anyway I've really enjoyed painting this one. Soon he'll be packed up along with the falcon and the latest batch guardians and they will be on their way to reinforce the rest of the army.

In other news, my army's famous! Well, sort of. The guy who bought it got in touch and told me that they've been used on Youtube batreps done by The Legion Wargaming, here's a link to a batrep featuring some of my models
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvE_KZcFaUc
At 3 minutes in you can see the Wraithlord, Wraithguard, Farseer, Guardians & Scorpions that I painted.
I was chuffed anyway, it's pretty cool to still be able to see stuff you've worked on.

Next up for Eldar will be Wraithguard, Wraithknight & a Spiritseer.
Also hopefully some SDE & NAS will make an appearance soon.

Thanks for looking. C&C always welcome!

Great Eldar!

I agree with Daniel. Some awesome retro styling going on. I however don't mind the red bolters... I think it adds a splash of colour.

Goblin green bases anyone?

Are you airbrushing?

Thanks Kisanis!
Currently I only use a brush but I'm very tempted to get an airbrush.
My brother has one and I had a play with it a little while back.
I've just held back a bit from getting one cos I don't want my painting style to change too much & I'm also worried about the learning curve.
I think I will get one even if I just use it for laying down basecoats until I get to grips with it.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to doing some more on the Grotz. Just got a bit more on the Iyanden to get done.
This is in progress for the rebel grotz, I started this ages ago (maybe 2 years!), just need to finish off & got ideas for more rattling around my head.

Finished 1 wraithguard with the rest not far behind.
Not had time to get out photo stuff so no pics of them but did snap a quick pic of this on my phone.

Torso is nearly finished as well.

My buyer plays against Raven guard fairly often hence the base. Hoping to get him & wraithguard finished by end of this month.

Funny, not sure why but on my desktop the previous post is coming up wonky? Look fine viewing warseer on my phone.

Here are some more WIP shots, hopefully these show up ok. Lighting isn't amazing again but gives an idea.

At first I left the visor black and left it glossed but as I looked at it more I thought about doing an effect on it so tried a swirly nebula thing.
I'm happy with how it came out but not sure if it's too busy. I may go back to black with it. Any thoughts anyone?

Got the torso more or less finished, just needs the vanes in the back, some gems and a coat of matt.
