Okay, I know its a little late to be discussing changes to Imperial Guard stuff, but I just realized a potential way to make the shotgun a viable choice on storm troopers while making the hellgun an assault weapon at the same time.

Storm Troopers are armed with one of the following:

Shotguns w/Executioner Rounds
(12" range; Str4; Ignores cover saves and LOS)

Or Hellguns:
(take your pick of the various types that have been argued over).

Eh? Eh?

Why would shotguns ignore line of sight? You can't shoot at someone if you don't know they're there, and shooting straight through a wall that's blocking sight doesn't really make much sense.

Not without thermal sights and a bazooka.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with squeek.

I agree, ignoring line of sight isn't very sensible or what executor rounds do. Ignoring cover isn't a bad idea though and is exactly what executor rounds are supposed to do.

Hmm, I suppose I got caught up in the god's eye view mode--I know the enemy's there, so my models must, right?
;)

Okay, just ignoring cover it is then.

I don't think it's totally unreasonable. An executioner round has sophisticated tracking and targetting computers inside it.

It's no more unrealistic than a tau smart missile pod being able to hit things it can't see.

I'm gonna go with Hell Guns.

But I think that Hells Guns ought to be like Boltguns. Not exactly, but mostly like a Boltgun.

Yeah, that's what I thought originally. And it's not like 12" Str4 is game breaking.

I'm torn because part of me thinks I'm just having them ignore LOS because I'm biased.

Lol, just goes to show how crap the eldar shuriken catapult is that you can have entire storm trooper armies with better guns.

But yes I think it's fine (I don't think it should be worse, because I think the catapult should be better).

Hellgun: range 18 Str 3 Ap 5(6 or -) assault 3
or : range 24 Str 3 Ap 5(6 or -) assault 2

This would keep stormtroopers mobile as they should be.

Otherwise, I would like a dramatic decrease in points for the stormtroopers as they get outshot by nearly every other unit point for point.

Hellgun: range 18 Str 3 Ap 5(6 or -) assault 3

This seems to me like the best of the options discussed in this thread. I'd go with the Ap 5 version.

Hellgun: S3 AP5 R24 Assault-2
Executioner Shottie: S4 AP4 R12 Assault-2

Anyone?
