I hope I'm posting on the correct thread...

I have the old 6th edition giant for the orcs and goblins (the big muscle man). But I still have have him painted on 50x50mm base (old 6th edition base). I plan on entering a tournament soon and I know this will cause me a problem because they have a new base size for the giant.

I went to ask some of the guys at my local store, but they are not sure of the correct dimensions of the new base. I suspect it is 75x50mm. Can anyone verify?

Thanks!

AFAIK the new base is 50x75 mm.

If this causes troubles, you could try extending your existing base by blue-tacing a spare cavalry base to the front or rear.

as far as tournaments go, your giant with the 50mm base is still legal since it is based on the base that it comes with. note that the O+G giant STILL comes with a 50mm base, and not a 50x75 base.

Outside of less chance of flanking him, is 2"x2" advantageous for the giant?

The increased depth tends to make the giant slightly more likely to be hit by a cannonball.

No it doesn't. AFAIK there is only 1 giant box for sale (the plastic one, bar maybe old stock in independent stores), and it comes with only 1 base. I got one, and its defenitely 50x75.

Anyway, since the rules indeed only say (or they actually even fail to say that, but its all we got...) base on what it is provided with.
So: provided with 50x50 back then, that's what you use.

Otherwise ask them to point out the rule.
