no scrolls, random collection of bound items, one has a 2+ armor item, one has hand of dust

2 X 20 skeletons

1 X 20 ghouls

2 X 5 dogs

2 X corpse carts (1 balefire, 1 has other ability)

10 X Black Knights

During setup I try to use scenery to funnel him through one opening, stupidly thinking if I funnel him through only one clearing, and I hit that clearing with 1-2 units of knights plus a 1-2 chariots, I'll crumble/destroy a unit in one turn, avoiding the guaranteed loss due to unit rezzing.

Dogs face off against eachother on the sides.

He wins roll off to go first.

Turn 1 he goes, moves forward with everything, dogs included.
Magic phase:
he either fails or I let him get off his rezzing, and his corpse carting. I fail to stop winds of death or what-not. Losing 1 knight, 1 wound from a chariot, 1 dog. Could have been worse..

I move slightly forward, angle dogs in to redirect his dogs. Mauraders make huge flanking attempt as they will have no use clogging up the front lines.

Magic Phase:

I draw dispel dice out by casting bubboes twice. Little do I know he has no scrolls.

I cast Conflag of doom on knights, I roll 5 hits, he rolls 6 - so only 5 hits are done. I get 3 wounds. He makes 2 saves.

I cast Infernal gateway with the lord on the black-knights. He can't dispel.
I get 9 strength 8 hits. All wound. Unit is gone..

His turn... his lord joins the skelies that are escorting another vamp. I'd go into in detail but it didn't matter.

On his turn, he miscast one of his last spells, I infernal puppet it to give me a free-gateway. I roll 3 str... Eleven hits. He loses unit, lord + hero. He concedes.

God I hate that spell, makes it so cheapish. Why couldn't it be 3d6 str d6+4 hits or something less random than it is now.

I thought it only auto wipes out the unit if it is str 11 or 12, not 11 or 12 hits.

I had to read that part several times too, but he *did* say 3 str 11 hits.

Shows him right not to take any scrolls

An average of 10 hits at a minimum of strength 5 is a bit over the top, don't you think?

Ahhh now I see it :p

Yes that spell can be nasty, but it very rarely is. Usually it's just a good magic missile.


Might have been a short report but it gave an important warning :)

scrolls are nice, and the Gateway of doom does happen appearantly :P

Vs the average of 7 hits at str 7.
That would be 10 hits, str 7/8 on average.

But without the chance of annihilating a unit. 1/12 chance.

It would be more powerful on average, but less stupid when that 1/12 happens (which is could be 4-8 times a game depending on how often the enemy miscasts ;) )

We have to remember that atm, gateway is not a magic missile and does not require line of sight. Which are two, HUGE, bonuses.

Ive removed Skulltaker and 4 blood crushers first turn with infernal gateway while play testing WoC:P
