Hello everyone, some of you might remember me from my previous highelves plog, some might not...

I was born on Ulthuan but as time passed i have been dragged by an irresistible force more and more north, towards the Northlands first and norther still, until i found myself surrounded by wastes, skies the colour of blood and anger, far in the distance barely visible a brass mountain sat upon an infinte mound of white sand...

Where am i? Where have i wondered? Might this be a ...

Last but not least the mini from wich all started (this must be one of the best miniature ever made by GW) - i still have to decide wether to include it in the army or not as it's quite BIGGER than the old minis :)

But i am absolutely pleased on how it's turning out (even though at the moment i am painting the chaos knights)

Excellent paint job on some excellent figures, You are making it very hard for me resisting continuing collecting and painting my own WoC.
I will definitely be watching this thread.

Quick question. Will the entire army be vintage Chaos stuff?

Its funny how the horses on your chaos knights are better sculpts than later chaos knight horses. (probably not better than the newest ones though).

Oh my! Those old minis are so... cute.

How dare! You in league with that slaanesh pansy or sumfin? :p

Quick question. Will the entire army be vintage Chaos stuff?

Yeah, that's my plan. Apart from the lord that is ... but i'll see if i'll include him or not - you can actually see the army (1000 pts) on the my desk.

Mate - those horses are some of Citadel's legends! All hail mighty Jes and his "wacky chaos" period :)

Lovely painting on lovely models. You'll get some problems with WYSIWYG on the marauders, though. ;)

Thanks! WYSIWYG - that's for weak southlanders :) Don't get much of coherence up north

Excilent looking stuff! really nice paint scheme.

I do love alot of the old chaos models, they all had so much personality.

Is there any chance you could put up a shot of the new chaos lord (lovely by the way) ranked up next to the old knights?

Thanks once again to all of you! :)

And here's some progresses ... i have found out that looking at your minis pictures is actually quite a fine way to study your errors... didn't notice that the light brown highlights on the horse were so rude before watching the pic.

But i'll leave you with some scale madness ;)

Woah, that's got style and old class that can kick an iron-shod boot through your skull!Even though these are practically older than me, I certainly feel a lot of nostalgia about these - and only partly out of sympathy and long since exaggerated interest for history.┤

A lot of those old miniatures are actually really good still, although not on par with the more justifying, modern Chaos warriors, and the old flesh hound looks better than I thought it did - I understand now why they reused elements from it to merely decent effect in the newest versions. As for the very new Lord of Chaos, I'd say use it! After all, this is Chaos, and there's something slightly creepy about an army of seemingly shrunk Chaos warriors and centaurs (good painting on those, between, though try to throw in a tattoo or ten) led by a gigantic commander.

Good job!

Thanks a lot for your kind words! And yes, the idea of a massive chaos warlord on demonic steed is more and more appaling me.
The Realm of Chaos Citadel's period is for sure one of its most creative, mature and artistic - then at the beginnings of the 90's they started going toward a more cartoonish look (just look at the comics in 4th edition WH rulebook). Luckily, for me at least, now they realised their "error" and went back to their roots and original style - have a look at solegends.com if you are looking for history.
Bout tatoos - my freehand kinda sucks, so i'll pass on that.

The blood on the Leader's war hammer is disgustingly awesome.

Yeah, i love it as well - just blood red; chaos black + blood red on the edges; gloss varnish - simple but really effective.

And now last but not least ... the last horse!

A little bit of history for this one mini - as it has actually almost 20 years and it deserves a special treatment.

Bought the mini in 1989 or 1990 (don't remember if in oxford or london), when i was living in england and was 12, and painted it following the WD (some number around 127?) colour scheme - a bright blue an yellow tzeentch one.

At the time i felt it was my master piece, even wanted to sell it at the oxford st store in london :p (dunno why, maybe i had this feeling for commerce as a child...)

I then moved back to italy and the mini laid forgotten in my bits-box (the old blood bowl cardboard box...) for something like 15 years.

Then, shuffling around in schearch for old glories i found it back, stripped it and painted it once more to a decent standard.
"How cool would that be to have a unit of these", i thought at the time... well, the unit is almost done, and it gives me really a nice warm feeling to see that old masterpiece of mine, now at its second stripping and third paint job (a record for me!), proudly taking part in the realisation of this really personal, little "dream"
(you can stop crying now :D)

Here it is! Give a warm welcome to Mr. Horse!

Personally, I think the old models look really goofy and daft, and just do not match up to modern ones at all. They are painted well, though: its the sculpts that are the problem for me.

The Lord on Daemonic Steed, however, is looking superb.

Hello lads! As you might have noticed i haven't been really inspired to paint in the last couple of months... received hard blows from sentimental life, job and so on... 2009 kinda sucks if you ask me...

But anyway, at last sun is shining up here in Moscow as well, so i guess it's time to start again to take the positive things out of life, and to get back painting! :D

Here is Tzeentch (and mine) old favourite - please comment on him cos i still have to decide how much to love him, as he's really something different from the palette i usually use.

Thanks Welf! It's a pleasure to hear from a vintage legend as you

:wtf:Just imagine for one moment we would both complete and paint our armies to let's say 3,000 points - and than meet in a random GW-shop to play a battle with them. The reaction of the redshirts would be very interesting.:D

By the way, how's the Kaleb sculpt? Is it nice? I've seen it dozens of time on ebay but never unerstood was it worth buying

Hm, I am not so much the spike guy, but I think he's okay. Very detailed but a bit flat. The horse is nice. Not a must have - but why not?

A Malal army would be very interesting. Core Troops masses of human civilians and militia (WS and BS 2), very few Chaos Warriors and some special characters including Skragg the Slaughterer and Kaleb Daark. Chaos Warriors and Characters should be able to get the blessing of Malal giving them a fighting bonus against everything chaotic.
Although I would love to field all those civilians and militia the colour sheme of black and white seems very difficult to paint.

Here's to you - chaos ogre!
Please confront the sculpts with the crappy ogres GW is doing nowadays.
I guess that instead of creating horrors such as the current chaos ogres, they should have just put back in production the Bob Holley and Jes Goodwin - some of their best scuplts ever if you ask me.

Tell me about that! Plastic ogre seem to suck as hell... and why o why GW decided to paint them in grey... i feel like all the "ogre kingdoms" move was quite a rushed one. Could have done a much better mongolians-like background and a MUCH better work with scupting. Yetis anyone?

Btw - as you might have noticed my name and surname spelling in english is quite random :D

Great project log Isha, you've brought new life to the old figures. The knight unit is particularly fantastic.

So just went through your log and I gotta say nice painting. I really love how you paint the skin, very vivid!
Keep it up!

Now - THAT's how an ogre should look if you ask me! :D Absolutely love the severed head on the belt. While i was painting i was also thinking how strange that GW removed the semi-last demonettes from commerce (wonderful sculpts!) for having some boobs around and then let severed heads, hands and so on around :D Sex must be so much more offensive and dangerous than violence ...

:D DHO! And you tell me that ogres are grey just now!??? Must have missed the latest marketing meeting of GW... man, i guess i'll have to strip them now ... By the way, even Franz Ferdinand sings that plastic's super fantastic! But then you cannot use plastic mini as unconventional weapons - metal ogres should be banned, i tell you!

And now i bring you quite a major update (considering my speed as usual...)

Finished the lord, the second unit of centaurs (aka marauder 'orsemen) and some crappy warband-shot.

BUT this will be my last update for quite some time, as after four years i'm moving back from great mother Russia to ol' Italy... so i am packing all my stuff. And i'm in a f....ing shok on how much things i managed to gather in this time... it'll be logistically not the easiest one. Whatever.
So - don't know when i'll start painting again but rest assured that i have some really sweet legendary old school chaos to show you! :D

Thanks guys! :) Yeah - the new lord is really "old schoolish", as well as almost all the new demons and chaos warriors (that's why i like them :D) - just look at the new bloodletters - after some bad years, GW's finally realised that the first one they sculpted were indeed much cooler than the later.
Same applies to chaos knights and so on.

O, and for anyone interested, i finally found out the provenience of my fallen nagarythe general!

"C13 Dark Elf Hero On Dragon Horse
This figure was originally sold with both foot and mounted versions packaged together in a single blister pack. the foot & mounted versions were later split up and integrated into the regular Bob Naismith Dark Elf range for the Citadel 1991 Catalogue, Volume 2. The Dragon Horse mount vanished from the range and was only ever available in the original blister package.

I really like this miniature!
One of the things that older minis have its that some of them really are sculpted in a way that strongly hints at their "stories". This one is a perfect example - quite a simple sculpt but telling and hinting at so much! :)
New minis are better sculpted but often lack in character in my opinion...

Btw, last week i had a game with it against vampires... a complete massacre in my favour. I lost only a centaur (the cow) and a wound to the ogre champion, that killed both my opponent's vampires :D Need to finish five more dogs, movement bases and i'll take pics.

Just took the time to read through this log from the start and I absolutely love it!

Those ogres are possibly my favourite ever models. And your painting really does it justice. Keep it up! I want to see more!

Planning on doing a warrior block?

Thank you! Its a pleasure you liked it! Next in line its a nurgle palanquin and its guard of chaos warriors, but as you might have noticed i'm mighty slow :p

Love the Chaos Knights and the Sorceress Chariot so far. I was very much taken with the blackened armour with red edges that you used - very cool.

After going through this plog from first to last post I realized two things;
1. I need to get Centaurs.
2. I need to get Ogres.

Just wanted to let you know that I've finally restarted my Realm of Chaos project (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4974272). Nothing painted yet, still collecting but have a look if you want.
