Well, I've been at this 40k thing for a long time, so I might as well post some pics of my current army and the beginnings of my future army. First off let me say, yes, they are Ultramarines. Yes, Ultramarines are so old school and boring, but, regardless of that, they were and are, the first thing I remember about 40k and when I decided to make a Marine army, there was no other option. AND, to further support my anti-flame clause, no one at the hobby shop I played at when I started the army played Ultramarines. (All Dark Angels and Blood Angels mostly.)

This army was taken to the 2007 Baltimore Games Day Tournament. It did middle-the-road winning against Blood Angels, tied against another Marine chapter and lost to a 'Nidzilla list. The focus of this army was to compete against hordes and marine-type lists, but suffered great losses against Armored companies and Nidzilla lists.

My philosophy on building an army is to stay "true" to fluff, and don't cheese out army lists just to win. I enjoy playing the game with friends and fellow 40k players, not crushing them to oblivion and obsessing over losses. So, according to fluff and personal preference, I tend to base armies off of mostly troop/fast attack choices. I enjoy to benefits fast attack units give on lots of different game styles and filling out a solid troop choice is always a good move. Elites are just as described, rare to see in combat. Special characters are fun to collect and paint, but serve no role in normal (1000-2000 point) games.

So here are my marines that I've been collecting for about 3 years. I don't have a picture box, so, this is the best I can do trying to get as much natural light as possible.

Sorry, I'm waiting for all these stupid things to finish uploading! Check back shortly! I'll bump the post when they're all up. I just wanted to reserve one large chunk at the front of the post for the pics.

And now the first few 'Nids pics! I guess I could seperate these two posts, but, I don't paint warp speed so updates will be somewhat sparse.

I'm not 100% pleased with the 'Nid colors yet. I still need to work on them a bit IMO.

I like the colour scheme you have for the nids, a good contrast between skin and carapace like looks great I think.

Well Mr Stompz, glad to see you finally posted!

The marines look great! I especially love the Rhino and Whirlwind. Not so much the jump Chaplain, but thats just because he looked so good cutting a path through an entire guard platoon.

The Librarian is coming along nicely!

And the Termegaunt looks pretty good. I look forward to crushing it beneath the tracks of my baneblade!

Keep painting!

Update!

I got down to business last week after my bikes did a number of Luftwaffle's Elysian platoons and decided (attained the motivation) to paint them. The Sergent was finished, so I did 3 bikes and an assault bike. Smurfs on bikes are scary.

Update! Here's my drop pod, in all it's death from above glory. I sprayed the inside of the drop pod boltgun metal then with a chestnut ink overtop to give it a high temperature heat-treated look. I used the new Citadel air brush, which seems to work well for what it's designed to do. It's not nearly as good as the standalone air brushes but its good. After the inside coat I just finished it up as I would the rest of my tanks, weathered and used. I don't like the look of pristine vehicles when this is supposed to be endless war. And...this is drop pod...it comes screaming down from space and slams into the ground, it's gonna get a little scratched up.

The new drop pod model is great. It's got tons of detail and is pretty fun to paint. It takes quite a bit of time because you're going to have to paint 5 exterior/interior doors, 5 pillars (with 2 sides) and the entire inside (I highly suggest a spray method). It's probably twice as time consuming as a Rhino.

Oh and I magnetized the doors so they stay closed.

Anyway, enough rambling, here she is:

I finally finished my Librarian in terminator armor. I was inspired to work on some blending techniques after watching a master class video, so I tried it out on this guy. Overall he turned out pretty good. It could still use some more touch up work, but I'll probably stop here, I've spent enough time on this guy!

Very nice Ultramarines - Clean, crisp colors with some awesome weathering. Hope you don't mind, I saved a few pics to use as reference when I get to painting my Ultras as opposed to assembling and cleaning mold lines (I HATE moldlines!!!!) *Subscribed*
