Hello, I'm currently working on a Brettonian VC army and I was wanting to do something special for my lord, so, I was flicking through my vampire book and I found something on the "red duke" ( Page 26) and there is a small piece of art work showing how the red duke looks. I was wondering how I could convert model to look like him, although he will be mouted and have a lance in one of his hands. ( conversion wise, getting parts of models to stick to other models without it looking out of place is in my range ad I can do very basic green stuffing, Cloaks fur, filling gaps etc, although if any of your suggestions surpass my abilities, I have a friend who is good at Green stuffing:))

i'm not much of a converter, but maybe a Blood Dragon model (to start with)? In the 6th Ed VC book i think they talked about him being a Blood Dragon

the only problem with that is it wud cost 50 quid, although I have spent 105 pound on a unit of 6 chaos ogres before... seems a fair suggestion. Thnx

Isn't the Mounted Vampire Lord in the Collectors section of the GW website the actual Red Duke model? (Could be wrong, but I seem to recall that being the case). Could be a good place to start if your local GW can get it in for you ;)

Can u buy blood knights seperately? I didn't know that. If I use a blood knight, I want one of the new ones, not a rubbish old one, if U mean I can buy a new one on its own that wud be great.

I've found a nice model on the GW website, cheers for suggesting it. ( just had a look) it's fine, however, I'm wondering how to get an ornate collar onto it as he has a cape.

If you want a great looking vampire with Lance then this is always worth a look: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1300341&prodId=prod1160077&rootCatGameStyle=wh

Its one of the old Blood dragon vampire characters, the mounted one is great, and the one on foot isnt bad.

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1300341&prodId=prod1140295 is the Red Duke model released in 1996/7 for the Circle of Blood Campaign pack for warhammer 5th ed, that features the Red Dukes assault on Bretonnia

I have always like the model, except the vampire's head. Looked ballooned...

1996? Wow. I didn't realise it has been around for so long. I even had the WD featuring the campaign and models. One of my most often read WD.

I was surprised it had been out that long too! I mainly faced him masquerading as Walach back in 5th edition, pumpkinning my poor High Elves' heads with his 6 WS10 S9 attacks :(.

The fact he's lasted this long is a sign of a good sculpt in my opinion.

Cheers,

It was a great campaign pack too, useful special characters, but then all of Pirinens campaign packs were good. The banshee was ace :)

I like that model, would have bought one given the chance. Anyway why not get a box of blood knights, then you will get 5 version of Red Duke, pick one and use the other 4 as blood knights. yea?

the existing red duke model has a collar up round the back of his head as well as the cape. It's a sweet model. you might have a problem if you want to field him with blood knights as his horse is a lot small than a blood knights horse.

i think the 96 classic Red Duke model is probably my fav of all the vampire models gw have released.
cant believe he is 13 years old though.

bleh, i dont much care for it. it looks good alright, but it is way too big for what he is. he is NOT a chaos lord, and should not be riding a skeletal shaggoth for crying out loud. the 6th ed mannfred on horse was good enough imo.

if i played with a vampirelord on horse(i like massed foot infantry for the most part) i would use one of the blood dragon models from 6th ed.

and for best vampire models, i would pick the strigoi with both his arms up in the air, or the mordheim vampire girl.

actually i think he has ridges on his head. it looks kinda funky, like he isnt/wasnt human.

Painted nicely with the horse replace and you get a chaos sorcerer lord hehe.
Time for conversion.

I think the ridges are on his head are supposed to represent like 'vampire' mode, like the vampires in buffy when their faces change. However, he looks like a Klingon who got got angry with his perfectly healthy horse and forced its head into a deep fat frying vat. The old strigoi models look like John Merick doing an opera performance. I like the new Vlad model and most of the last edition vampire models were solid too.
