I want to put 7-9 Cavalry Models in a unit and am attempting to determine how to configure them. I want them to be highly mobile with the ability to wheel 90 degrees if needed.

Assuming 9 models 25mmx50mm bases:Is it better to put them in 6 frontage with 3 in the rear rank or 5 frontage with 4 in the rear rank...or 7+??? (would anyone put ALL 9 in frontage?)

Goals:
~I want to maximize hitting power, breaking any unit on the charge (which leads to me the 6+ number for frontage)
~But I also want the unit to be relatively mobile too.

I don't know much, but against <=6 wide infantry on 20mm bases, you can't get more than 6 into base to base contact. However, you can get n+2 cav into 25mm infantry or other cav, so usually 7 or 8.

So it depends on your opponent, but you can always deploy accordingly.

For movement, I cannot help you.

The maximum number of cavalry you should have in the front row is seven, including character models. Usually adding a second rank is a waste, unless you need the models for attrition purpose.

I try to keep it to a max of 6 models wide... anything wider is usually wasted in CC anyways, and really hard to maneuvre.
