so i was wondering what are the must's for a game of combat patrol for you?
i'm making a guard force and before i go larger i wanted to make a combat patrol.

what i want to know is what youre usual tactics are and how they differ from normal 40k
which units you choose that you normally wouldn't
if you enjoy this?(dare i say more than normal 40k)

thanks for youre time.

Combat Patrol is a chance to experiment with some units you might not normally use in 40k (eg. Vespids for Tau players). There are no "musts", however, since CP is so short and quick you can fit several games into a session so it pays to experiment and try new things.

For IG, I like the option of running several units of hardened vets with plasma (you can fit a surprising amount of BS4 plasma if you try) or stormtroopers in Chimeras with sentinel support (a mini-mech list).

If you are talking about combat patrol using the 4th ed limitations, then a few things that I have found to be made of win are:

heavy bolters
razorbacks
devilfish
assault marines
drop troop guard (stick to a single platoon)

there are others, but those particular things I have found to work wonders

combat patrol doesn't exist any more :(

but you can agree with your regualar gaming group to use the old 4th ed restrictions in a 500pt game. I love combat patrol games, it changes the way that 40k is played, forcing you to use units that you may not use in a normal game, it just shakes things up a little.

As a DE player, I like to break CP by taking triple ravager and 5 naked wyches as my compulsory troops choice.

When you're facing down 4 plasma cannon and 5 dark lances at 400 points you know something is wrong.
