how do you take a toughness/strength test for ex. the empire magic armor says the attacking model must take a str. test before each attack or loses that attack if failed, do you roll a D6 and you have to roll under your str or over your str.? or is it 2D6 because some might have str. 7 for ex..

Characteristic tests are detailed on page 5 of the main rulebook, just above Leadership Tests.

The index of my rule book contains the entry 'Characteristic tests, page 5'.

Page 5 answers your question quite well.

I appreciate you want to ask the question because you are not entirely sure of the rule, but you should try to work out the rule first hand (from the book) rather than second hand from some plum on warseer.

Such a plum could easily tell you to take the test on a D10 (stats are 10 max and a D10 has ten sides, makes sense, eh?)

just to tell you its on a D6, a 6 always fail

You have to roll under your strength with one die. If your strength is 6 or higher then a roll of 6 is always a failure.
