View Full Version : Heresy traitor PDF force

Well here we go again.... im sat looking at all the unfinished stuff that i have in front of me and it got me thinking what do i really not need at the moment...... another army to paint!!! err......dam

This is going to be a small force around 500 points (yes i know that's how it always starts), I figured that with the new guard codex due out soon i really should jump on the band wagon and paint some up so here we are.....

I've gone with a heresy age feel for these guys hence the long single barrel lasgun (kinda like the old rouge trader ones) and also decided I'd go with the under appreciated and under represented planetary defence force, Hence why i can hopefully keep it to a 500 point defensive force i kinda like the idea of these guarding one of the spaceports as Horus's legions descended on them, to that end I'm not fully decided wither these will be loyalist or traitor I've removed all the imp symbols so can easy go either way and with the gasmasks (thank you pigiron mini's for the great heads) they could quite easily be either loyal or just turned traitor...

go for loyal!

Loyal for sure, loyal heresy is always more interesting and better looking imo.

humm loyal would be good but im thinking they could be used as a ally army to the world eaters that im painting (shameless plug there for my other threads :-) other choice is keep them quite neutral the fluff says that the traitors revelled them self's as the dropships descended in im not mistaken? doesn't really give them time to put there baddy costumes on :-)

they're loyal but i like traitor, more free imagination

Well I voted Traitor guard, but really from the example mini they could be used as either. keep em clean and unless you mark up stuff pretty heavily and keep most chaos Iconography to bases they could pass as PDF or Traitor Guard.

I'm with him! Keep all symbols (chaos and imperial) out, and you'll have a really nice PDF force that can be used against all manner of opponents with good reason :) Looks great btw!

Well wasn't happy with the last colour scheme the brown and green never really looked right so having now decided on a theme for the troops I've gone with this

As for the theme there going to be an force from the lions gate spaceport PDF from earth in the last days of the Horus Heresy. As lots of troops turned heretic in the final battle I'll keep these neutral that way they can be used along side the W/E that im commissioned to paint, but i like the idea of them been useable as loyalists as well.

with them been PDF there going be quite poorly equipped with battered and rusted equipment, and I plan on doing some using improvised weapon's i.e stuff found around a busy space port should give me some nice of stuff to paint and model :-)

there's no army list as yet (will be waiting for new codex first) feel free to chip in any suggestions or idea's

Much better colour scheme I think, although maybe the flak armour would look better a little darker than the uniform underneath. Just my humble opinion but overall looks excellent.

I actually liked the first one much more, but this one's nice as well :) First and foremost, the conversion is simple yet gorgeous! It will be nice to see whole squads of these.

07-03-2009, 10:15
Yea I see what you mean about darker flak armour, will have a think about it.

As for the old colour i liked the green but thogether with the brown it made them look a bit like a tree :-) Plus fluff wise I think the grey works better as a space port PDF force. Will add some other units with a bit more colour (I have ideas for them just need to find the time :-)

To go back to the loyalist/traitor question, you could have different sets of hq units to represent either. for example one tricked out with spikes etc to represent traitors, and one with ' for the emperor!' banners etc to represent loyalists.

as long as you keep the colour scheme the same, there should be no problems. it also shows the more corrupt senior officiers - ie they are leading their men down the path of heresy.

hope that helps as an idea

i like that idea also means i can do some commissar's :-)

The idea of traitor commisars is such a cool one, to think that the moral backbone of the Imperium turning renegade is great so will deffo be looking forward to one or two of those guys.
Thought about artillery or vehicles?

Think they will look awesome fileded next to the WEs army.

bloody hell an update here!!!

not sure how im going to do the base's on these yet hence why its on an old base but i think the scheme is working with these guys they look suitably equipped for a PDF force time to get the other eight done for this squad!! :-)

They strike me as loyalists, but you bring up the question of bases. If you wanted to lean them towards traitors I'd say do so with the bases. Perhaps have some mutilated body-parts similar to the pre-heresy World-Eaters style. Then you could pass them off as brutal/merciless loyalists or villianous/depraved traitors, win-win either way.

I picked loyalists, but they could have been last minute switchers and as such havn't gotten tainted by chaos, but they are still traitors. Either way works.

is there ever going to be an update on this log?
