View Full Version : What would your Abyssal terror look like?

For my all-combat Vampire army I had a Lord on Abyssal Terror in mind.
Reading the description it could look like any monster in the Warhammer World
So conversions are unlimited.

My three favourites are an Orc Wyvern, A Dark Elf Manticore
and Louen Lionheart. The last one maybe easiest as I'd put a Chaos Helmet on his head.

If you have an Abyssal Terror, what does he look like or
What would you want it to look like? Maybe a Lizardmen Carnosaur?

the cool ones I have seen are winged carnosaur type creatures. The big problem is none of the flying monster GW models are really that impressive.

The old Winged nightmare (is that right? the one with the blood dragon on?) looks great once you look past the hideous rider.

Take a hippogryph or griffin, make it look undead.

I like those ideas, and my own VC army is conversion heavy, too. The moment it looks bigger/meaner/more impressive than your Zombie Dragon you know that you´ve done something wrong though.

yeah.. that's the problem. I think a winged carnosaur is to close to a dragon.
A Manticore or Hypogriph which are looking dead should suffice I think :)

I have used callers big undead rat from the necromunda range .... I know he does not have wings but I figure a rat that size can leap twenty inches :)

I'm thinking about using Mahfreds mount and adding wings and a new tail. Don't know what else yet. I'm still playing around with ideas. Maybe even a Blood Knight Kastellan figure as my base, adding wings etc, and modelling a new rider out of the Kastellan himself. So many ideas...my heads going to explode!!!

I use an old Chimera.

The varghulf mini, then use werewolf like conversions for actual varghulfs if there is any in the force.

I took an old empire griffon, made it's skin "loose" and wounded with green stuff (extra layer of skin essentially, painting did rest, some skulpting was needed), and dark colours did the rest. Looks nice, especially without rider.

EDIT: Here (http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e288/Oberon_/DSCN0628.jpg?t=1235850679) is a picture of it, base is WIP but still. other (http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e288/Oberon_/DSCN0629.jpg?t=1235850714) sides, and rear view (http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e288/Oberon_/DSCN0630.jpg?t=1235850681).

I really like the old winged nightmare model. I'd probably just use one of them with a suitably impressive rider, the old Blood dragon with lance (the one that came on a horse) is still a great model

I've considered using the Fellbeast (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1600078&prodId=prod1130399&rootCatGameStyle=) from the LotR.

My army is araby themed (lahmian vamps, saracen style blood knights, shared skeles with my TK army, robed zombies based on flagellants with greenstuff fezs) and I am working on a "sphynx" abyssal terror using the lion from the HE chariot and brettonian pegasus wings.

Very nice, though i think i'd have a vamp on the back of a varghulf.

that looks realy nice. how did you make those wings? i have thought of a fellbeast but wouldn't the model look too big? using a bk kastellan would look great anyway... easiest and most varied model, i think, is the griffon.

Maybe that Gulavhar dude from LotR would work:

or B'elakor from Warhammer.

hmmm.. they look nice but can you put a rider on top of them?

Malarowski

The Chaos dude would need a fair share of modifications I'd think. The LotR guy on the other hand should be usable. He has a neck that seems long enough to hold a rider.

I like the idea of the varghulf. I'd probably want to make it even more bizarre though. Probably a crocodile head (ushabti or wargods of aegyptus model?), stitching lines all over it like a frankenstein monster and weapons instead of front claws and tail (a bit like some rat ogres).
