Who said SG were going under? they've given us anotehr little remembered game for free!

Bommerz! (http://www.specialist-games.com/assets/BommerzDaSulpherRiver.pdf)

I gave this away a while back, and all I need are appropiate counters for the planes, yay!

HOLY CRAP! Bommerz is one of my favourite GW games... Used to have AMAZING fun back in the school days playing this at lunch times. We got in trouble a lot for all the excited yelling and ork-cries.

Ive got two copies laying around, for 'extended' games, and some mates have a couple too. They were on sale one time for around 10 bucks each (3 pounds?) so we all went nuts :)

It was 10 pounds here i think, cos you got metal Epic fighters in it.

It's good to see GW doing this. Didn't a recent WD also say we'd get another re-done classic game? (something about vampires, before my time)

Curse of the mummies tomb maybe?

This could be a sign of gorkamorka being redone, based on necromunda...

Y'never knoe

Curse of the mummies tomb maybe?
Could have been. I think it was *checks Stuff of Legends* Fury of Dracula.

But isn't Dracula and associated things (Van Helsing etc) a licence now?

I really do hope so. I don't know about re-done, maybe just the rulebooks put up for download?

I've never understood why GW don't give out the pdf's of all their oop game rulebooks/counters/etc.

Hell, even sell them on CD. What have they got to lose?

Bram Stoker has been dead long enough for his creations to be public domain. A company couldn't make copies of stuff from the movie Van Helsing, but they could make their own version of Dracula and his enemies.

I would also like to see GW release some of their old games as pdfs.

And I thought I would never hear again about this Bommerz game - I thought it was one of the most quickly forgotten games from GW (did it really got any mention in WD after the issue where they introduced it?).

Thats the Fury of Dracula, The rights were sold to Fantasy Flight Games (as well as another GW classic which i cant remember the name off right now), theyve updated it to a 2nd edition and should be released this month or january.
Hers the official site

I remember hearing a rumour that Bommrz came about when they were doing a clearance of the Studio design team and to see who was still up on the play they were given a couple of weeks to come up with a brand new game. Andy came up with Bommerz which was the best.

A pretty ridiculous rumour I thought at the time, but it very well might explain such a random release.

Oh fantastic, Ive been searching for these rules for ages for my BFG:Complete game(basically BFG with boarding actions fought as 40K killteams/combat patrols and rules for fighter engagements in more detail). A few tweaks and this will be ready for space combat :D

I thought it was because they wanted to somehow increase the sales of their Epic flyers.

off topic.

has anyone ever started a thread for links to all free games from gamesworkshop on the net(not just the fanatic released ones). would it get taken down, i can't see why it would because it would bring in new revenue for them.

the only other free games ican think of is the Ork Bar Room Brawl game and the cut down version of Horus Heresy (the one set on the Battle Barge)

As for games that GW owns the copyrights to and that are placed on the net without GW permission, linking to them is likely to result in two things:

- Leading the GW legal department inquisitorial team to send their hard-charging crack strike team to send cease & desist letters to the website owner/service provider, requiring that the pages are removed or GW will sue pants off from everyone they can find

- Leading the even harder and faster Warseer Inquisitorial team to remove the said links as violating Warseer rules

Possible, but to be fair its stuff theyre giving away and the minis needed boost sales, so thats madness - even for GW

- Leading the even harder and faster Warseer Inquisitorial team to remove the said links as violating Warseer rules

So this thread breaks the rules by that logic for the link in the first post. IMHO it'd be nice to have a page on here with all the free games links, plus if GW get snotty, its just one page to drop.

No it does not - I was only talking about (GW) games placed on the net without GW permission.

It is still perfectly fine to link up to all games that are available as downloads with GW consent - such as all the stuff that Fanatic/Specialist Games crew have been placing for downloads.

Im working on a project called the Anargo Sector. In this project we try to create an entire Imperial sector in full detail, including lots of background, artwork, modelling and gaming.

Now Ive been working on a version of Bommerz over da Sulphur River which could be used on various worlds in the Anargo Sector and also the incoorporation of other races into the game. I dont know if you are that much of a fan of the game, but if you are you should definately check out what Im trying to do. Check it out here (http://anargo-sector.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=668)

Now if you are interested you should join up our forum (http://anargo-sector.net/phpBB2/index.php), you might be challenged by the various background and artwork aspects as well!

Also, you should check out our wiki page (http://wiki.anargo-sector.net)

Nice to see that. I never played this game but it seems like it's a way to bring some people I know back into GW gaming a bit.;) It's a nice service from GW; I don't think that these rules were published with increasing sales of Epic miniatures in mind because they won't (in a dimension that would matter).

Other (very) mini games, apart from those that were mentioned already that were published in WD I can remember are the Squig race and the Bretonnian joust.

Hmmm the resolution is a bit crap because Photobucket limits file size.

If anyone wants the 7 megapixel original, drop me an e-mail: thrash4ever at gmail.com

I'll try to reply ASAP with the 2.79Mb attachment

Played the game, is class, one Q tho;

Can planes double back on themselves? For example as the Imperial planes race towards the Orky bommerz, do their dogfight then pass each other, could the Imps (and the Orks, if they wished), then use the movement slots to double back another way to either chase or finish off damaged craft?

Never quite got it, thanks.

Ok this is all guessing seeing as I never properly played this, but you might find it helpful, who knows.

I'm reading the events rules, found here, page 3:
http://www.specialist-games.com/assets/BommerzDaSulpherRiver.pdf

Dogfight:
"The player scoring highest is the winner and theloser is driven off one space in a direction chosen by the winner. If the winner beats the loser by 3 or more the loser also suffers a point of damage. The model which moved into the space can carry on moving if it wins, but otherwise its move ends because it has been driven off."

Also note:
"Only one Fighta-Bommer or ThunderboltInterceptor can end its move in any given space, but a Fighta-Bommer can pass through a space occupied by another Fighta-Bommer as it moves. Because of this it sometimes matters which Fighta-Bommer moves first in this case the fastest Fighta-Bommer moves first, then the next fastest and so on."

But I think the most important objective and driving idea of the game is for the Orks (attackers) to destroy the bridges! Remember, that is how you win the game! Minimising engagement in dogfights = greatly reducing the chance of bombers not reaching their targets.
I don't understand why the attackers would want to put themselves at risk of damage, and hasten their destruction!

And when the situation is reversed and the same proposition is employed - an Imperial Marauder doubling back on itself in a tight Valley situation to take on a just-beaten Ork Fighter - it just seems a little silly, but this coming from someone who never played the game ;)

Whether it is "possible" - some modification of the rules and pathos of the game is required, and that's up to you ;)
