I'd really like to run four companies of these guys, but they're only in metal so that would cost ~70. I could half that by having the back rank of each company being fillers, but I'm not sure how that would look.

Does anyone know of any cheap but effective way to convert/replace these guys?

I have converted a Uruk-hai captain with a crossbow but i needed 1 Pikeman and a conversion spure (4 when i last cheched) so that may not help. Unfortunatly every crossbow armed mdal is the same and expencive. I don't like it when you have that amount of metal around (I spent over 30 on metal Glaldrium Elves)

although it may seem strange at first, try making a green stuff mold of one of their crossbows , and then appling them to normal uruks, to create some fillers perhaps =/

as far as I know, the bitz sprue with the crossbow on it doesn't exist anymore.

Dan meraging of UK and US. I was going to buy a Balrog Sward arm as the whip arm i have keeps falling off and now it doesn't have.

Maybe use plastic dark elf crossbows with out the cartidge? All you have to do then is cut off the arms, everyone that plays dark elves that I know always has extras.

However WH and 40K are on adiffrent scale to LOTR. a standard orc warior is taller than Gandalf.

Yes but those dark elven crossbows do work, I build some in the years back. Also also clipped the front blade from then crossbows away in addition to leaving the cartidge off. This made then look fairly generic crossbows.

But what to use as the body? The uruk-hai are mostly one moulded piece, and I don't think that the crossbow units come with shields.

How about Uruk siege engineers? They're pretty cheap on ebay, it's jst a case of getting enough of them.

I have seen both engineers and pikemen used to build them. Some of the Scouts might also work, although they do not have heavy armours that the crossbow uruks are supposed to be equipped with, but that should not be a big issue.

That seems like a really good idea. Cheap crossbows, here I come!

they should have done plastics instead of uruk-hai scout plastic wich was silly imo.

DE xbows are too big for the lotr plastic uruks.
GW shud had made plastic xbows instead of scouts, thats my 2Cents.

Pikemen. I've been thinking about it. Just take the pike off and have him holding the xbow. It's not hard to scratch the either.
