Don't know if anyone else is interested in this but me, but the whole DoW range (or at least major units) is to be rereleased in sets (by mail order only) this summer.

I had an email from a GW hobby specialist a few weeks ago which stated that this could happen (after i wrote complaining about the price of pikemen!) and it has been confirmed in the UK 305 WD, with a reference: See WD 306.

Good for me, as it means that my DoW army could finally be a reality, without paying £70-odd for a unit of pikemen!

Apologies if this is common knowledge.

As far as i know this is far from common knowledge.I thought that GW were only releasing the two Lustria based DoW (Lost legion and Horned One riders) but this is certanly good news, especially as unopened DoW reigments are going for stupid amounts on eBay.

But what makes you think they'll be cheaper, personally i'll still think they will be the same price as the are on the online store, just easier to order.

At the bottom of the page with these two units on, it mentions mercenary units being rereleased.

Combined with this (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=60040214001&orignav=9) i'm really hoping we get reduced prices too!

 Oh thank you GW.....even if it is at the jacked up archive prices, it means i can finally get it from Canadian online stores that offer a discount. Ohh i am soo happy.

On the pictured sample page is a picture of Tzarina Katarin. I wonder if she counts as Monster or Mercenary. ;) :p

Have fun,

The units won't be availble as the "bits" except for unit leaders. The ones which I know are being released are:
Beorg Bearstruck and the Bearmen of Urslo
Marksmen of Miragliano
Voland's Venators

This I know are in the next WD, near the back. It seems as though their stats haven't been redon, though.

will they also be getting redone in the army book, or is this too much to ask for... probably too much to ask for

i doubt that we'll see a revised DOW armty book ever, as after WE, they will be putting all of their creative juices into WFB 7th Ed, and then we'll have the revised armybooks, so DOW will be on the long term back burner, maybe never to see the armybook light of day

I agree with boogle, whilst they may eventually get new rules, they will probably never get a full army book,

That's just my two cents.

We'll probably see chaos dwarves before we see a book purely devoted to DoW

It is still likely to be more affordable to buy historical pikemen than GW ones.

As far as i Know only GW UK are the only ones re-releasing the DoW Line. I know GW France, GW Italy, and GW Germany are getting the Lusteria RoR. GWUS and GWCanada has no intention of re-releasing the DoW at this time. I do not know about GWOZ.

I don't know. The GW Germany online store has a relatively complete section (http://de.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.de?do=List_Models&code=301691&orignav=13) of DoW. I think they will indeed carry them. The only regiments currently missing are the Cursed Company, Braganza's Besiegers and the Birdmen of Catrazza. They are listed in the archive, thought.

Have fun,

Rolf.

You're correct of course, unfortunatly since all my friends have decided to jack in GW, i'll have to play at gaming clubs etc. So they have to be GW legal. :(

Luckily i've found a way to convert empire halberdiers, so i'll be doing that i think. Probably still get a unit of Lost Legion, because i think GW's estalian models look just great!

I hope Dogs of War do get an army book, but I am doubtful if they will.

I think they'll get some kind of book, even if its not a dedicated army book. The idea of an Allied Contingent army book seems to keep cropping up here, every now and then.

This doesn't maker much sense to me. Surely you only have to buy GW models if you plan to take your army to a official GW tournament? I know here that it's perfectly fine to use non-GW models.

Unless your club for some odd reason feels like enforcing a GW only model stance(but why the hell would you do that?).

I guess his gaming club might be located in a GW store, where they also tend to enforce the party line.

Correct. Perhaps i should have said the my local gaming club is actually the Warhammer World store!

Seeing as it would just be taking the p*ss to play using non-GW mini's in the GWHQ, i'm going to be buying and converting GW mini's only. :p

Speaking of converting Empire halberdiers/swordsmen to pikemen, I actually remember back to the time when those models came out - in WD there was a picture of four models that Perry twins had converted to pikemen.

Basically, all you need to do is to cut off the weapons, drill a hole through the hand and insert a suitable lenght piece of brass (or steel for durability) rod to it. The end of the rod can be slightly flattened and sharpened, but don't get too much into it - otherwise they will end up being quite hazardous for your arms.

In the Astronomincon section of issue 306 there is a list of all the regiments of renown saying they will be availible as boxed sets and blisters. :)
But then it says see dogs of war section online, there is no dogs of war section in the store.

(i have sent them an e-mail, still waiting for a reply, any i dea how longhobby specialists take to reply?)

thats because the DOW regiments aren't due out until 6/6/05, and WD isn't due out for the masses until next Friday

What is the current state of Richter Kreugar and the Cursed Company? They seam to be missing, although they are one of the recent additions to the RoR range. Strange...

Have fun,

Rolf.

jedi 152.............You can save some money, IF you can get a hold of Empire plastic spearmen in whatever numbers you want in those DoW pike units.

Think "Raboesch" brand, Super Styrene, Round Rods. Available in hobby supply shops (model railroaders use them) They are solid, come in various diameters. You get 5 of them in a clear plastic use for storeage container. VERY reasonable price, but, I don't remember for certain, I'll guess one half dollar plus sales tax.

I suggest using very fine wire to "pin" the two pieces of plastic. Glue alone will work but pinning and glue will be better. OR, you can cut out/off the spears and drill out the hands. Then fill them with pikes made in one piece. The first method, I've done, it worked ( I didn't pin).

Pike points are easy to do. A small pair of needlenosed pliers to flatten the top end. I then use a pair of fingernail clippers with a very slight curve to them, to shape the pike head.

in France, this month, they are re-releasing Alcatani's Brotherhood (?translation?), the Brigade of Braganza and Vespero's Vendetta...

Last month they did so for Tichi-Huichi and the Lost Company...

As for the others, I don't know their plans...

In the uk, every RoR is released as a boxed set and blisters from the 6th june.

An excellent idea - and thats exactly what i'm doing, but i'm using Empire Halberdiers and brass rod instead. I'll post pics when i'm done!

At utterly normal prices too, unfortunately. Generally £25 for a unit of 12 infantry, with the leader.

Empire halberdiers!! :D Sounds good to me. Remember a Milton Bradley/GW game called Battlemaster?? If you have any of the halberdiers laying around, they could be heavy pikes. Yeah, I know they had shields, with a sharp hobby knife and or cutters, those shilds should come off easily.

Griefbringer
27-05-2005, 10:12
From what I remember, ripping off the shield of those Battlemaster halberdiers would require a major remodelling of their left arm afterwards, so I would not really recommend it.

Griefbringer
28-05-2005, 15:16
That said, those one-pose halberdiers released in 1993 would be an option for heavy pikemen, since they are wearing quite a plenty of armour. All you need to do is to cut off the halberd, drill a hole through the arm and insert a brass rod of suitable length.

Of course, being single pose they are not the most inspiring models to paint - I am personally trying to finish a bunch of twelve currently (original ones with halberds).

Before coming on-line today, I found out about the major remake of the left arms sans shields.

I have decided that these particular pikemen carried shields to help protect them from incoming arrows. ;) They won't be getting cut until we get back in town. Then I'll get some brass wire and get busy.

ORRR, I can get some get looking heavy pikemen. Old Glory, 25/28mm, metal, assembled, heavy/armoured, 30 to a bag.......$29.(USA). The wire pikes with molded tips come 30 to a bag for $5(USA).
