Hello,

I've been playing fantasy now for a number of years, basically getting out of 40k all together. But lately I've been kinda missing my Eldar(the army that got me into this hobby). I haven't played since early 4th edtion(I think...the one before this current edition).

Anyways, I was wondering if its competitive at all to take an all "mounted" Eldar army?

Using Jetbikes for troops(almost typed core there, lol, damn you fantasy), Vypers and spears and maybe something Heavy like a Prisim. Led by a Seer Council on bikes.

Have no idea what armies are strong at this point or what lists are doing well.

I tried to search around to see if there was a topic like this posted, didnt really find anything. So if there is, please direct me to it and close this thread.

Thanks.

Except for the shining spears and vypers you pretty much described one of the most powerful Eldar lists currently possible.

Really? No Shining Spears? The Vypers I kind of understand they are pretty easy to shoot down. I was thinking along the lines of arming them with scatter lasers to thin down infantry. But I always thought the Spears were pretty powerful(again, been a long while since I've played 40k).

Good to know the list would be competitve.

Is it OTT or cheesey?

That's what I've done with my army, autarch and 10 banshees in a waveserpent, 21 jetbikes, 2 vipers, some swooping hawks, and a fire prism, everything moving at least 12" a turn:evilgrin:(I think, I've never actually used it, to be honest), all to counterbalance my Guard, with a total movement of less than an inch!

Ya Mounted Eldar (AKA Mech eldar) are very competitive. Shining spears are ok, but they just aren't one of the most efficient use of points. Everytime I've gone against them they just don't do any more than Guardian jetbikes do. Like many units in WH in general, good concept, but lacking in execution.

*remembers going up against old Saim-Hann armies and starts sobbing*

Admittedly, I'd do better now, what with running and Orks getting more shots per boy, but still, any skimmer-based mechanised list will give an opponent a hard time.

Shining Spears can be pretty good if you get them in sync with the rest of your list. A Seer Council on jetbikes and some jetbike troops would be a nice core to fit them into. The consensus on Vypers, though, seems to be that they are too over-costed for what they do.

I suggest dropping by the Eldar Tactica thread for some good suggestions.

Mech lists of any flavour are hard as nails, with eldar and DE (DE probably more so) the kings of fully mechanised play.

Such high mobility coupled with the specialism eldar units have will mean a unit will typically only expose itself when it needs to kill something - wave serpents are a hard nut to crack when it comes to dedicated transports and the falcon is a beast.

The only real downside is because eldar units cost a lot and the wave serpent can nearly equal a squad on its own, such forces tend to have rather low numbers.
