Paying Homage to Saul Tarvits' log on his own Titan Legio I have decided to try my luck and get my own Titan Legion ready to play in our Heresy Era Campaign[link (http://thousand-sons.co.uk/campaign/)].

To that end I present the War Griffons. I have loved the colour scheme of this legion since I first saw the image of a Warhound from the War Griffons in White Dwarf and in Sapce Marine: Battles.

So without further ado:

The collection so far. 2 Lucius Warlords, 2 reavers, 2 Lucius Warhounds.

The obligatory pet picture - Jesse

All still WIP but you can hopefully get the idea of what I want to do with these guys.

Update:: I just received a shipment of Imperial Knights in the post. These will be used as Forge Knights in my Titan army.

Colours are:
Over black undercoat everything is given a light drybrush of Tin Bitz just in case any bits are missed while painting and also gives a nice base to work the gold over on the rims.

Grey - Battle Grey base. Mid tone of Battle Grey/Astronomiconfor building upon - and that's as far as I have got on the Warhound.
Yellow - TauSept Ochre with a wash of Sepia for the yellow. I plan to highlight with Iyanden Darksun similar to how I seen some Bad Moons done up on Warseer.

You can see more of my War Griffon log on my site (http://www.thousand-sons.co.uk) or view the rest of my armies and info.

Anyway, C&C

Slight update: No pics!

Got the warhound's grey and yellow finished yesterday, pics tonight. Went for a highlight of astronomicon grey/elf grey 1:1 with a dash of matte medium to gain fluidity. Finished off with a stipling of that mixture to lighten the rest of the grey.

They yellow was highlighted with Iyanden followed by a slight wet brush of Iyanden over the darker parts. A final highlight of sunburst/iyanden/matte medium finished the job.

The plasma was based with Orkhide and drybrushed up the coils to Iyanden before washed with Thraka green. Same mixture on the eye sockets.

The bare metal was given a light drybrush of chainmail over the tin bitz base. Hop to get a good deal done on the 1st warlord and reaver tonight but started 2 formations of Terminators last night for my Luna Wolves.

Just in case anyone knows me and thinks I'm showing favouritism here is the other pet:

Your Titans look really nice. Good choice of colours. They are, however, definitly in need of a wash or two. Right now, they look rather flat, especially the blue/grey.

And, of course, base them!

Good luck.

Thanks Daniel but they are far from finished. They do only have 1 base colour on them and the warhound in front has a 1st highlight. He has since been done up and is almost ready to crush the enemies of the Imperium.

Ah, it seems young Tarvitz has a contender :D
This looks promising, I'll be keeping my eye on this.

As will I. This is really not helping my desire to buy some Forgeworld Warhounds :p

They are stunning models and the last 2 I received were almost perfect cast quality. the earlier ones had their left carapace a complete mash up - you had to literally resculpt the enitre trim from a blob of resin that resided there.

This has since been almost fixed and requires little work.

The hard part is getting a dynamic pose while at the same time making sure the legs and feet are balanced on the base.

Got another 3 waiting to be built but since I am planning to make a chaos titan force - legio tempestor Storm Lords running with my Chaos Daemon Knights of Slaanesh as their knight backups - I will probably be getting a bunch more from FW.

The warhound is 80% finished. Just have to do the detailing on the trim, some logos and other bits'n'bobs.

Looking good man. I miss epic sometimes but nobody in Norway plays it. Did you enjoy the children of Hurin btw?

Sharp eyes on Static grass! please note I also share some shelf space with the missus - hence 'Wanted One Perfect Man'

Slight update. Managed to get some time to paint up my Lucius Warlord. Bad quality photos but I'll get better ones soon:

Please do some variations in the weaponsystems of the other Warlord. Maybe some missile launcher on his shoulder (you could use the Cyclone missiles from the plastic terminators perhaps).

daemonkin

Hi Malika. Am planning some more variations but I have to have a few games to see what builds are best in combinations. May end up magnetising the weapons also.

Audrey (13th Realm) did up a really nice Slaanesh warlord that I am planning on stealin..er..copying. Just need some more titan weapons if you know where I could get some?

Much better, haha! Sorry that I assumed they were done. Good job. Still need proper basing though.

Nice! Lookin' pretty snazzy so far, the muted yellow works nicely. They need a bit more bling but from your comments it sounds like they will be getting some shortly (gold trim etc). Am surprised that mixing the Lucius style Titans with the older models works OK, though I'm still set on mattching pattern Titans in my own force.

Intrigued to hear you'll be taking on the Storm Lords next... that makes three blogs that will have Epic Storm Lords in them, mine, yours and Saul Tarvitz. Will be interesting to see the different takes on the Legion!

Saul Tarvitz legio is Tempestus while the Storm Lords are Tempestor. Slight difference but a very big one in the eyes of the ]I[.

Tempestus were blue and all but destroyed in Mechanicum
Tempestor were blue/grey digital camo with black/white check pattern that became Slaanesh titans and ran with the Daemon Knights of House Devine.

The only non lucius titans that will be in my force will be the reavers as I much prefer the metal ones to the FW ones which to my mind are a bit Challenger tank-esque (very flat sloping armour). I hope that FW redo these in light of their new 40k reavers. The pose on the site makes them look ungainly but at GDUK08 there was a table with 5 of them on it and the pose made them look far more dynamic and posed better - more upright.

Actually, most of their strength was off world, the only tempestus titans on Mars then were under repair or held back on Mars to defend their fortress, if I remember correctly :)
Which is handy, because it means that if I ever get some Titans I can paint them in Tempestus colours all I like...hehe.

Cool; I've got a force of War Griffons too (not going for all this new-fangled latin nonsense - War Griffons and Warp Runners all the way, me :) ). Not going for the mottled effect then?

daemonkin
10-04-2009, 08:33
Maybe. For now I have just speckled the lighter colour over the mid-tone grey. Misght do I mottled effect on the lower legs but will leave it for now until I can get the rest done - Warlord, 2 warhounds and 2 reavers. I also am the proud owner now of a God-Machine, an Emperor Titan but he needs a good bath in Simple Green.

Really nice :D
loooove the warhound - but then again, i just warhounds in general, they have more character than most titans IMO :skull:

nice colours though, esp like the grey, looks like they are made of Stone, like they were carved from the mountains themselves.

Had a game last night - Heresy Campaign, 1st part of Istavaan III, loyalist Luna Wolves vs Traitor World Eaters. The Wolves had a warhound and warlord (above) vs an Imperator.

First turn the warhound thought it was sneaky moving behind cover and attacking a world eater company. The enemy Imperator moved to position and opened up with everything - Plasma Annihilator stripped all shields and took 1 hit. Hellstorm managed 2 hits both of which were saved on 5+, defence lase took another non-critical hit, las cannons pattered off its carapace and it only fell to 1 failed save from a battlecannon!

I was thoroughly impressed with the ruggedness of the lil titan!

[OT]: Imperators can move 30cm!

Gota bit more painting done over the Easter break.

My legio now stands at:
2 Warhounds
2 Reavers
1 Warlord

All the grey and yellow have been painted. Now it's just time for the details.

[OT]: Imperators can move 30cm!D.
That was a mistake / cut and paste error, the Official Epic Errata on the GW site corrects it:

Page 164: Imperator Titan datasheet:
“Speed 30cm, Armour 5+, Close Combat4+, Firefight 4+” should be “Speed 15cm,Armour 4+, Close Combat 3+, Firefight 3+”

Are you not using E&C's AMTL list anyway?

Nice titans by the way and I agree on the FW Reaver.

daemonkin
17-04-2009, 13:19
Thanks Glynn. Was wondering why I managed quite a few penetrations on the colossal machine. 15cm is a much better speed for such a beast.

And yes I will be using C&E's lists for both my Skitarii and Titan legions (Hence the Griffons colour scheme ;-)) but for the game we just kept for standard configuration titans.

I'm going to be needing Titan pictures for the army list, how would you like your Titans to feature there?

daemonkin
03-05-2009, 21:18
I'd be honoured E&C. I'll have to get better at photography and get the rest of the details finished but that would certainly give me a boost (read kick in the ass) to get a move on.

Thanks for the offer.

Love the list BTW - just need to find some Corvus pods so that I can justify crossing over my Skitarii list with the titan list.

It is a great legio you have chosen to paint ;) They look really good. I much prefer the old metal reaver to the newer, boxy, forge world one.

daemonkin
04-05-2009, 08:00
Thanks Demonrich. I didn't like the FW reaver either but am beginning to come round to it. Maybe with the alt head as seen above it might look better.

What I would really want to see is a new FW model based on their new style Reaver body. That would be great.

Really nice stuff, and by far the nicest looking Titan legion in my opinion :).

Here's one of mine, he looks pretty similar:

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h291/Levinas/DSC02906.jpg

I think you've inspired me to repaint my Warlord (got two warhounds and a reaver done in this scheme so far).

Keep up the good work...

Nice work Levinas and thanks for the comments. What base is that warhound on? Looks thin but not a GW titan base.

Need to get busy detailing the ones I have painted. Got a few more to do and then onto traitors.

D.

levinas
13-05-2009, 11:20
It's a washer, 60mm I think, almost exactly the same thickness as a larger round titan base. I bought it because all my epic stuff is on 'flat' bases (the vehicles are on Warmaster bases) and I wanted them to match. But what I really like about it is that its pretty heavy so the resin titan has a bit of weight to it.

daemonkin
13-05-2009, 11:57
Might have to try that out.

As of now my titans are on multiple thickness bases - 40mm terminator for warhounds, 60mm thin titan bases, 60mm titan bases with void shields.

All my vehicles will be on warmaster bases - I got mine from Magister Militum £5 for 50.

@Gamle: Colours used are on page 1. Elf grey is a very very old citadel colour that has a lovely cool blue/grey colour and is almost white. Luckily I have several pots of the stuff in my box.

Thanks all for the comments. Really appreciate it and helps motivate me. Still striving for the final look.

Its so good to see people still painting and playing epic. I never caught the bug but I think the imagery of titans is pretty cool nonetheless. I cant help but think how much better they would look if they were based. But looking good!

These are really awesome looking titans, can you put up some pics of the Imperator? I am currently in the middle of painting my warlord in a plain grey colour scheme.

It is good to see that epic is still played, i only know 2 people in my area that currently play it.

Thanks Jack.

Sitting on the shelf awaiting inspiration, time, a few other things... Got another warlord waiting and I want to build a command warlord with some of the metal parts from the old titans. I also have a bunch of knights and an Ordiantus Golgotha for the force.

Also need a basing system for them, possibly martian red sand but if they are to be used with the rest of my armies, may just go with calthan brown and sand.

Can't wait to see more of this log. I really like this Legion and it's probably what I'll be going with myself for my BT army.
