View Full Version : Armageddon Steel Legion Plastics?

It's a little late for this post, but I figured I'd write it up anyways:

- When I went in to GW back in September (it's a flipping pilgrimidge to get out there), they didn't have any Armageddon Steel Legion Heavy Weapons Teams, or for that matter, the Armoured Fist Squad. I asked about this, and the staff emmber said that they were making plastics of our favourite regiment, the ASL. Is this in any way true? I'd certainly love to have them for conversions/different poses.

it's all still there on the uk site (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=List_Models&code=301313&orignav=10).

Seeing as the next guard releases are a big selection of metal Vostroryans (or whatever), I doubt this is going to happen. Plus I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed that there are no plastic IG great/storm/trench coats in the works, not for a long while at least.

Maybe there's just a stock issue or something.

The Heavy Weapons are no longer available on:

or the German site: http://de.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.de?do=List_Models&code=301304&orignav=10
- though they don't have anything but Cadians and AC
Thats wrong. Look here:

Good call...I can't read Geman and was kinda guessing my way through it. It was worse still with the Jap site.

Ok, I just plain retract that comment. Nevertheless, they didn't have any when I went in and had my hopes up! What are they Vostvoyans thingies?

new IG that are coming out more or less to coincide with City of Death.

What's the City of Death? I'm soooooo confused now. I'll just go back to my plastic Cadians and keep converting them for now I guess.

Check further back in the Rumours pages - and also in Brimmies' Roundup.
In short:
Vostroyvians - New metal Guard regiment, based loosely on Cossacks/Russian WW2
Cities of Death - Cityfight Mk2

Not russian WW2 - that'd be soviets, i.e. Valhallans. Earlier russians, fur hats and moustaches.

The term I used was "loosely". There appear to be elements taken from the WW2 era (not the uniform, but the weapons).
However, this is not the place for that discussion as it can eb found elsewhere.

the weapons? flintlocks aren't particularly WW2... are they?

Argghhh..., this is why I never post on the Rumours section...

Hey I'm just saying. Don't want to give incorrect information on the rumoured style of the Vostroryans uniform and equipment.

Fair enough. The style and "slenderness" of the guns (as suggested by a very relaible, but still potentially mistaken source) was taken to be similar to the Moisin-Nagant rifles of the WW2 Russians.
But hey, at that scale - flintlock lasguns would look similar to Moisin-Nagant lasguns anyway. We shall see when the models hit the shelves. Though no matter what, it's pretty much fact that they'll look cool :D

I dunno, the moustaches bit unnerves me. I get the feeling that we will see somethign comparable to the demolitions guy from schaffer's last chancers. Does anyone have a copy of his background fluff? Maybe he came from Vostrorya.. or whatever.

Still, no metal regiment is going to be better than simple plastic greatcoat guard. Which I think would sell a million times better than cadians have. But that's not rumours, that's just wishing.

if they are metal why is there a 50 box set including the vostroyvians coming out as the 50 box sets are all plastic. could you explain this.

It'll be a limited production run item like the old IG box sets... probably.

i've heard comflicting thinhs, about the vostroyans, and the {Platton boxed set has muddied things even further as it's price the same as a Battleforce, which could mean they are plastics

Except that 25 figures for 50 is eminently possible for metal Guard. We're not talking marine Prices here.

Also when you have separate Lascannon and Mortar teams that definitely says metal to me.

19-12-2005, 15:57
Yeah if that's a platoon box for 50 quid, well that's pretty much exactly like the olde IG metal platoon boxes.

thats what i thought (20 for 2 10 man squads and 15 for a Command Squad, making a saving of 35)

So the reasoning that Vostoryons (sp?) are going to be metal is based only on pricing, or have we seen conformation of this some other way?

(Still hoping for plastic)

Much confusion and confliction regarding them. There are those (myself included) who maintain that they will be a mix of metals and plastics (plastic core, metal officers, specialists, heavies) and those who maintain it'll all be metal. Even Brimmy confesses that his normally garrelous sources have been unusually closemouthed about them. Only time will tell.

 Didn`t BRIM say all metal?

They're metal I'm sure. Both Brimstone and captain_bas said they were metal as well as people on other forums.

The platoon deal essentially saves you the price of the command squad ($20 or so). I'm assuming it's a full platoon -- two 10-man squads and one four-man command squad with accompanying officer.

If you would read the posts carefully, you would note that I did not claim Brim didn't say they were all metal. I pointed out that he admitted his sources were unusually quite on the IG front. You may verify that here: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19329&page=6

Spoke to my guy at GW today and asked him to confirm his earlier plastic statement and eveh he is backpedaling some. He'd told me earlier that they were plastics for sure, today he wouldn't commit to that. Don't know if it's just that he got froggy before or if somebody jumped on his head about loose lips. I'm no longer sure that these are the plastics I was promised. What a shame. On the other hand, seeing how the scouts came out, maybe I'll find that waiting is better than getting something I won't like.

my theory was based on pricing, however, if they are plastics, what would go in the Battleforce (if thats what the platoon is going to be) with them that is in keeping with Cityfight?

If they are all metal then it's a bit annoying.
Surely plastics would be better profit wise anyway. Guard really need another good plastic box, the Crapachans really don't count. With the Steel Legion only being pretty much Mail Order only and all the old metal regiments being an insaine price...ah well.

NorthernMike

Why do we keep talking about these like they are going to be plastic. Brimstone keeps telling us that they are not, but rather metal, as are most of the new cityfight releases. Ya, I am really annoyed that they are metal, as it doesn't really make any sense, especially with how expensive guard are, and how many you need. Yet it is the Tau who have the almost entirely plastic army.

Oh well. Now I wish just to see a picture of them even though the advertised prices are looking too expensive for what I was hoping.

don't see how, as they are a niche product, whereas proper Greatcoat Guard (Valhallans primarilly, with bits to do SL and DCOK) would be a mass market seller, the fact that these guys are rumoured to have Flintlock style lasguns and drooping Moustaches, lead me to believe that they will be metal

neXus6
20-12-2005, 02:29
Well that's fair enough, plastic Valhallans would have been a far better release than these guys.
I mean with things like Stalingrad you can't say it wouldn't fit with the new book.

And I think ANY new plastic guard would become a mass seller.

Jahrael

maybe they will bring us plastic Greatcoats in time for the new IG codex in 2010:D

Perhaps it's more realistic that we should look to Forge World to do multi-part Valhallans/great coat. It'd be good if they did more IG regiment variants. I know that some would baulk at the idea of FW doing them though ('ow, my hurting bank balance! ;) )! Unless the rumours about FW pricing being changed are true..?

yes, just like the cossacks :)

I followed up with that short description because He Who Laughs had said "Cossack/Russian WW2" which isn't true as they look entirely Cossack and not WW2 at all**, so I was merely explaining what Cossack meant stylewise, incase he had minsunderstood.

**from what we have been told

So basicly it's the Kislevite army but with guns. :D

I don't really want to load out on metal models, but my birthday is around the time they are released. Once I see them I'll choose between Steel Legion and them. :)
