Update - 2017! (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?201108-Swebat-IS11-A-modern-veteran-inspired-IG-army&p=7666435&viewfull=1#post7666435)

-----------------[ Old Crap - 2016 ]-----------------
So, after a long, long break due to playing war in the northern parts of Sweden, I've finally pulled that famous finger out and begun anew!

Anyway, I find most of the old things a bit irrelevant, since I've remade and stripped a few of them.

Enjoy!

Current setup to be sorted, without the Tauros Venator.

So, I'm back with Warhammer 40k (many thanks to my old Valkyrie model) and I've done some progress so I decided to create a log over here.

Well, the theme of my army is modern/40k, more exactly the swedish armed forces (even if it seems to contain around one and half soldier).

I'm planning to focus moslty on infantry, based on the veterans.
The uniform will be a bit different from model to model, but I'll try to stick to the M90 camo (a bit atleast!).

HQ
Haven't made up any ideas for this one to be honest. Ideas would be great.
Company commander with boltgun
Medic
Vox
Regimental standard
Cameloline
Special weapons?
Heavy weapon team?

Elites
Storm troopers with meltas, sergeant with plasma and bolter.
Snipers (using the rules from the catachan codex)

Troops
Veteran squad 1 (Covering the second squad)
Harker
Cameleoline
Autocannon
3 sniper rifles
Vox

Veteran squad 2 - Hard one, having problems deciding what to take and not. This is a forward squad, still not an assault squad.
Sergeant with shotgun(?) Assault 2, better than a a pistol and CCW.
Carapace, eventually also cameleoline.
Thinking of equipping this squad with 3 grenade launchers and a missile launcer. Eventually 2 grenade launchers and one plasma gun.
Vox

Fast attack
Valkyrie squadron - Haven't really planned anything for this one yet.

Sentinel squadron - Armoured(?) with 3 plasmacannons or 2 plasma cannons and a lascannon

-

Thoughts? I'm not going to have alot of stuff in my army that's why I'm using the doctrines. I'm not going to mount up in Chimeras either, but I'm planning to create an armoured fist squad tho.

Not going to tell my life story and I bet none of you're interested.

So here's some pictures, mostly of them are in the WIP stage, or lets say all of them.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Resin_Valk.jpg

My pride, bought it when I was a kid, butchered it. Tho I managed to get a place in "Pimp my Valkyrie" so it's back in action again. WIP.

Pilots, a bit of a WIP.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/PaintJob_Valk.jpg

Paint job, many thanks to my cousins for fulfilling it.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Trent.jpg

Older than my Valkyrie, I present you - Trent! He has been repainted a few times I tell you. WIP at the moment.

Please, proceed to the next post. :D

Two other members of the second squad, please, if you got any posing ideas let me know. I'm stuck with these two lads.

Head concept.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Sgt1.jpg

This one is probably going to be a sergeant in one of my squads. Early WIP.

Allright, I bet I've missed alot of stuff and I know the photos aren't the best ones (used the camera for the first time today).

More pictures to come! If you have any ideas or tips for posing and so on. Please let me know since I'm out of inspiration at the moment.

Many thanks for checking, mates.

You seem to have the special and heavy weapons teams listed under the HQ when they are now apart of the platoons. Everything looks good so far.

No, it's actually the command squads choices. Not sure which one to pick.

Realy nice Models, the Plan for my Catachans look realy similar.

Haven't made up any ideas for this one to be honest. Ideas would be great.

I have choosen Straken and the squad has a Melter, a Flamer, a Vox and of course a medic. The abiliys of Straken are very use full, for such specialised army.

Lovely decal on the Valkyrie, and I think giving your troops webbing/chest rigs is a great idea, and not one I've seen done before. I'd worry about them getting covered up by the gun, but that's a pose issue that I'm sure you've thought of already. And lastly, the eyes painted on the Stormie are great.

Great start on the Valk. The conversions are imaginative, but you could do with giving that greenstuff a little more attention, as the straps are a touch untidy here and there. Plus, the NVGs look like they couldn't actually drop down over the eyes, as the headband is too high. Remember that, if pushed up off the eyes, the back of the headband should drop down to the nape of the neck.

Keep it up!

Cameloline = we can hide better for sneaking up on people,
Regimental standar = everybody look at us.

Nothing wrong with it, but it always seems like a silly combination to me.

Since the Hellguns got a big bost, I really don't see the point in changing it for a bolter.. 6in more range, but gives marines an armour save. Although I'm guessing this is for the model rather than the rules.

Troops look fine, although, Harkers unit are loosing allot of maneuverability as he gives them move through cover and a mobile HW, But I can't say there is anything wrong with the multiple HW fire base option either.

Looks like a nice list, not putting the valk into it though?

Whats the plan for the scratchbuilt APC, design wise?

Thanks alot mate. Indeed, the Valkyrie's lines ain't beautiful, but I'm glad I managed to get it together.
I bought it on a holiday when I was visiting England (Stains more exactly) and when I got it, I actually got a little surprised over how badly casted it was to be honest, even if I was around 12-13. Well, let me put it this way; You shouldn't let a 13 year old fix a badly casted Valkyrie.
Though, she's operational now and I'm looking forward to buy a plastic one to complement my mistakes.

Thanks for your NVG notice. Haven't thought of it at all. Are you recommending me to do something equal to this - http://www.pf-militarygallery.com/images/mcfarlane/militaryredep2_armyparatrooper-r3_photo_01_dp.jpg
I'm just afraid of that the scout night vision might look a bit weird then. Also, this mate is bare headed. Hard one to be honest, though you are right.
If you got any ideas, please share. :)

Yeah, it's the Storm trooper model, and I forgot about the new hellgun stats.

About the regimental standard, mostly took it for the fluff, might just leave out the points part.

So Harker's heavy bolter is mobile? I actually thought it was counted as a "Heavy".

Sorry for any spelling mistakes, a bit busy and tired.

Edit:
About the APC, something like this (Chimera with autocannon):

Sorry for the swedish text.

It's highly not obvious but yes its mobile. The fact they named it would of made sense just to write it under his rules or something but they don't.
The bit that makes it mobile is that he has the Relentless rule, ie: always counts as stationary.

Are you recommending me to do something equal to this - http://www.pf-militarygallery.com/im...hoto_01_dp.jpg

No, not really. What I mean is that in this image:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Heads.jpg

...the straps on top of the helmets (bottom left and bottom right) are of a length that, if the models attempted to pull the NVGs down, the whole assembly would fall off. The horizontal strap should be attached at an angle so that the back of the strap sits under the rear rim of the helmet and rises up to just above the front rim. That would imply that the whole thing could be pulled down over the eyes without falling off.

It's a teeny-tiny detail, only really noticeable because of the large photos. On the tabletop, it would barely show. I only mention it because, if you're going to take the time to do such time-consuming, delicate conversion work, you might as well do it as well as you can, and you've clearly got the skills.

Everything looks great! Inspiring to see another guard force inspired by the swedish army, though mine has soviet looks it is built around the swedish artillery battalion. Yours really look the part, especially the "chest rigs" (stridsvästen) looks great. What parts did you use for the pockets?

Definitely subscribed.

Great work!!! I do not know if you meant it to be so, but the three ammunition pouches down on the soldiers' waist almost look like the ones once used for the m/96 rifle. I like it alot.

Your painting quality looks very high - given that, have you considered making the girl on the Valkyrie look less like an anime character? I can't imagine any troops taking themselves seriously dropping into combat with a goggle-eyed cartoon girl plastered on their transport. The legs also look bony and childish. I know that's often the point in anime, but it's creepy as hell when the symbol is supposed to be sexually provocative in nature. Rework the face a little bit, round out the thighs, and you'll have an awesome model right there.

I look forward to seeing paint on the infantry!

Glad you liked it, mate. It's quite simple, just file down a bit off the chest, use a small space marine pouch or the ork ones. Then tie the straps down+add a few more details on the breast area.

I guess you're quite right there mate tbh, but it's coated.
I'll keep that in mind for my next Valkyrie (plastic one then). My current one is very fragile, so I don't think I will convey her around too much.

Anyway, thanks for all of your other comments and a special thanks to Explodingboy who pointed out the correct rules for Harker. I've redone my armylist a bit.

HQ
Company commander with boltgun

Barely, might put some netting or equal to them. To be honest, this squad is inspired by the Call of duty 4 multiplayer models and the general swedish trooper.

The covering squad might be more outfitted with such equipment though.

Great job with these models so far. I ... like the anime girl, but I'm not sure if it fits in well with the army. lol. But at the end of the day, I like the girl, I think it's a nice touch. I just wish it was worn out a little because it seems to stand out so much. Maybe that's just me though.

Have anyone tried out the Vallejo model colours? They've got some proper colours that I'm really interested in. Tho, are they better/worser than the IG colours? Your thoughts etc. would be much appreciated.

Tired of mixing the GW colours, dries so bloody fast.

Great stuff so far Sandgrinder, the coversions add a lot of character to your models.

Regarding the model colour range, they are well worth a look, and there are a lot of...more realistic and natural looking colours. Lots of greens, browns, etc. I use one of their colours in my army, german camo black/brown. It is a darker brown then GW sell, and very much a black brown rather then a red brown such as scorched brown.

I think the model colour range would work well for you, based on the test camo mini you did. (the paints tend to be a bit thinner on average then GW paints, and you get more for your money too! Plus I prefer the dropper bottles to the rubbish GW ones)

Anyway, well done so far!

As he said plus one backdrop: Vallejo paints are a bit more fragile than GW ones. Thus, you really should varnish your models if you intend to play with them. Otherwise, Vallejo paints are really good and dry slower than GW's.

It's an underslung grenade launcher (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M203_grenade_launcher). I think it looks pretty sweet, except for the big round muzzle break.

As he said plus one backdrop: Vallejo paints are a bit more fragile than GW ones. Thus, you really should varnish your models if you intend to play with them. Otherwise, Vallejo paints are really good and dry slower than GW's.

Thanks alot for your tip. I'll check them out in a couple of days.

Hasslefree are usually very swift on filling orders, but I know Kev and Sally have been in and out of hospital recently with some family dramas which may be slowing things down a little.

Just read the annoucement on their website, read it here (http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/).

Well what can I say, I've been with you from the start (kinda) on this and it's looking better and better every *******' time you show them to me, however you need to start actually painting the guys, that I think might kill the habit och demolishing them every year to rebuild them again ;)
Hehe, all of those 100 goggles and pouches sure did the trick! :D
Som of the heads I don't recognise the original models, first on on the left on that head-pic for example, looks like a good wolf to me, what's that? :)
Anyway keep painting, seeing I'm now officially on Warseer I'll keep updated aswell :D

(and to all of you who liked the valkyries paintjob, thanks I guess, I'm the infamous "cousin(s) mentioned above hehe :P, and yeah it's not perfect, but that's a year ago and unless mr. I like your guard, they feel very real. Great conversions, the helmets/heads are looking really cool. I love your gun conversions the grenade launcher looks good not just "tacked on". The chest pouches look great, I wish that they'd make more like the marine ones your using right in the cadians. The guard feel like they should have alot of kit.

Nice work, Sandgrinder. I love the M203 style launcher, consider it stolen. And the M249 SAW style HB for harker is sweet, but think about making the pose as if he is advancing and shooting the gun, would illustrate his Relentless rule nicely IMO :D
I also like the CHICOM style chest rig in some of the first pics, how did you do them?

Yeah, I will get one of those plastic Valkyries too, but I guess that will happen in novemeber/december.
I haven't planned anything for it yet really (want to finnish my APC and some of the lads first), though I'm thinking of having some troopers lower themselves from the Valkyrie with grappling ropes.
Probably adding some backpacks and other equipment on the doors and to the interior. All I can say is stay tuned. ;)

It's quite easy, just scrap down the diaphragm of the torso and then glue/gs the pouches there. Then you better file down the breastplate a bit and place the pouches there with superglue. When you've done that, connect som greenstuff straps to the rest of the vest.

I'm sorry, but I slaughtered them - most of their parts/heads are used on the new models.

Yes sir, I've seen them aswell and I'm tempted to order some, although the price is a bit "meh" so right now I rather convert most of the guns due to my poor bitz box(es) are getting overloaded.

Thanks for all the feedback by the way, even though this thread is pretty old now and I've been busy with the army and other stuff, but, I've had alot of time recently and I've built pretty many new characters that I'll post pictures of later (most of them are at my friends house as we speak).

You have some very nice-looking conversions. I'd like to share a few that I think might interest you... Christopher Roe (aka Mel Ebbles of papercraft fame) has several bits conversions on his blog (http://melebbles.blogspot.com/search/label/Colonial%20Marine%20Conversions), most of which would look great in your army (in my opinion).

Sandgrinder

While working on my models, I've also slowly been making a small army list. It will pretty much be based on camp like a bitch and wish for the best playstyle.
I'm not exactly sure what kind of more units I should get except those below.
Although since I've got such a small army I'm not too keen about using normal infantry squads and was thinking about giving the camo cloak upgrade a shot.
So, any tips for a noob? Can't say I've got much game experience since I've been stuck on the modelling phase for too long.
Neither is the game clubs or GW too appealing.

Blah, can't be arsed to drag this out too long, here we go:

Command squad
Commander - Boltgun & camo cloak.

Veterans - Regimental standard, 2x sniper rifles & camo cloaks.
Is vox-caster worth it?

Master of ordnance - Camo cloak
Bodyguards worth it?

Total = 125 pts

Veteran squad #1
Harker as sergeant
3 grenade launchers
Is missile launcher worth it or do you recommend anything else? This is a mobile unit, atleast my thought.

Total = 140 pts

Veteran squad #2
3 sniper rifles
Autocannon
Forward sentries

Total = 125 pts

Veteran squad #3
Shotgun for sergeant
Worth taking a bolt pistol?

1 plasma gun
Should I go all plasma or get 2 grenade launchers or 2 sniper rifles?
Autocannon/las cannon?
Forward sentries

Total = 115 pts (I have not counted 2 special weapons, the heavy weapon and the bolt pistol)

This unit will catch a ride with a valkyrie.
Was thinking about equipping it with a lascannon or just make it simple to switch between it or a multi laser depending on the opponent.
2 rocket pods
Heavy bolters (worth taking?)

Total = 140 pts (not counting las cannon)

So, is it worth equipping the squads with a vox caster?

I'll probably be teaming up with a space marine chapter for most of my games and I've no idea about what kind of opponents I will meet.

Great troopers (and sentinel, like the top hatch) !

Elysians turned out fine. Dont know if ive missed out on her before, but nice touch with a female trooper that dont look like a bimbo.

Very inspiring !
The conversions are really good, and the whole army as a cool look, just as a special forces regiment should look !

To make a long break short (logic), here's an update!

Need to clean up and polish some of the green stuff.

A small part of the 2nd camping squad.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/20160303_134650.jpg

Trying to remake the new scions to look a bit more like the old (true) storm troopers, finding the new ones to be a bit too knightly.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Untitled-1.jpg
Not decided yet if I will include the radioOP as a storm trooper squad member or put him in the HQ.

The biggest problem is the heads, I think it might be above my sculpting skills to try recreating the original heads.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Untitled-2.jpg

They got stripped, except good ol' Trent.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/20160303_134430.jpg

Grenade launcher(!) and FO guy for one of the original squads.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Untitled-3.jpg

Radio operator for the camping squad.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/20160303_134759.jpg

Anyway, most of my paints have dried and I can't really remember the paint mixes for my camouflage, if you have any input (prefer vallejo or GW paints) I'd appreciate it!
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Untit4444led-2.jpg
I'm not too keen about mixing paints too much, as it already take ages for me to paint one model.

That's it for now, stay tuned for more updates if it appeals to you!

Edit: Yea, most of them miss heads... mostly due to -> http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/682245.page

Hi sandgrinder, welcome back ! Great to see some of your ace conversions again. I do like the idea of loosing the plate-armoured torsos. Makes for much more modern (and better looking) stormtroopers IMHO.

Small update! I've got a few more models coming up, but most of them need some more sorting before it's worth showing the crap off.

Hooded trooper (more coming soon) and WIP HW-team!
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/New_Ig1.jpg~original

WIP - Future part of my command squad, haven't decided the heads yet.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/New_Ig5.jpg~original

Some WIP troopers.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/New_Ig2.jpg~original
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/New_Ig3.jpg~original

And even more WIP special weapons veterans!

And if you can be arsed, I'd gladly appreciate it!

It's awesome to see this log come alive again! I really like your take on the Scions, I agree with you, the classic Stormtroopers were the best interpretation of the elite soldiers.

Hope to see more progress in the near future :)

Your Alive!!!! Excellent to see this continued! :) I remember seeing this quite a few years ago!

My only beef is, I (personally) have a thing about being sort of "Uniformed" Army. Seems like they are more of a Mercenary Group than Reg Military. Not being a grump or anything lol. Your Camping Squad looks good so far!

With your head issue. I have this that MAY help you :)

I have some myself and are what I was trying to replicate. PIG IRON:

Thanks again everyone, appreciate some motivation!

Here's a full showcase of each squad as requested, just to show that I'm still alive:

Upcoming Company Command Squad, bluetacked heads, haven't really decided what to use yet.
Prefer the "Kasrkin" heads for special weapons and vehicle crews, prefer not to use too many different headstyles. Waiting for a bitz package to arrive, so we'll see how it ends up.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Scions%20Command%20Veterans.jpg~original

#1 Veteran Squad - The camouflage is just a show off what I'm planning to do. Most of them are WIPs in one way or another. The three old painted models needs a fresh up aswell.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Imperial%20Guard%20Veterans%204.jpg~original

#2 Veteran Squad - Decided to fresh up my Harker model a bit, waiting for a few bitz to arrive there aswell. Other than that, some WIPs, freshen up the paintjob on the old models and clean up the unpainted ones.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Imperial%20Guard%20Veterans%203.jpg~original

#3 Veteran Squad - Same as above pretty much!
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Imperial%20Guard%20Veterans%201.jpg~original

#4 Veteran Squad - Clean up needed and WIPs.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Imperial%20Guard%20Veterans%202.jpg~original

1# Stormtrooper Squad - Less prioritised, need to find some models on ebay to complete it.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Stormtrooper%20Custom%201.jpg~original

At last, the sentinel and the used-to-be-HW-teambase-now-going-sentinel.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y240/Korv/Veteran%20Sentinel.jpg~original

... and of course the valkyrie! Painting will begin as soon as the weather allows spraying.

Cheers! Ideas, comments and so on are always welcome as usual.

Love your stuff, your army has tons of character. So much attention must have gone into every single model

It just occurred to me countries like Sweden must have a lot of guard players, what with military service. I know it isn't a thing any more but most adults will still have been through it and it isn't hard to imagine that personal experience would inspire people to play IG. I'd love to have a go at IG/AM myself some time

Great conversionwork, Sandgrinder :) Any news on the colors for the "lövhögen" camo ?

Due to weather and no possibilities to spray I've left out the painting ideas, but I'm leaning towards Knarloc green, Catachan green, a vallejo grey beige colour and the vallejo black grey - but we shall see!

Anyway, thanks and I've found a few perfects heads from Empress miniatures. I've been way too fat and tired the last week for taking proper pictures, but I've got alot more done lately.

I've also been a bad person and stripped a few more figures.

Cheers!
