So with the release of the new guard dex the time has come for me to pay homage to my favorite army of all time... Krieg. I ordered my first platoon last week and just got it today. Ill be working on them over the next week or two to get them finished and ready to go. I finished building the first squad today, green stuff will be done tomorrow (sarg conversions) and hopefully paint within a week. Here is a picture of what I am working with so far, and my sarg conversion awaiting a green stuff sleeve =P

Looking cool,
I ended up buying the command upgrade pack for my sergeants,

Any ideas on a scheme yet?

Nice conversion! What pieces did you use for it? Anything Krieg is awesome to me - welcome to the crew man. Subscribed!

I used the cadian weapon sprue. I removed the shoulder pad with a sharp knife and fitted it. I'll be putting some green stuff on it tonight and finishing squad one. I'm thinking of the standard grey/brown pattern similar to the german army in WWII.

Awesome man, thanks for the info. I went with a 143rd typical gray, though I'll end doing some in camo I think. The WWII scheme would look nice. Looking forward to seeing them.

Finally! I was hoping you were going to do one of these. I wasn't sure if you were going to wait until you're a couple squads in. Can't wait to kill some of them on the TT.

I still plan to add some rusty barbed wire or something to his base.. taking recommendations... still trying to figure out this new camera too.. hopefully Ill have some better pictures of the squad up soon.

I like it, the metalics and black is good. I see you tried to highlight on the sleeve, and the coat. I suggest covering less area on the clothing(shadow grey or something?) with that highlight or layer, and add in another one to bring it out more. Otherwise great job, Im looking forward on updates. Great job on the mask and base BTW. (:

Love it.

Looks just like the ones I've done! I followed the Vraks book fairly closely. Which is something I wouldn't ordinarily do. The weathering/chipping looks really good on the helmet to, and the painting is very crisp and well done. Can't wait to see more :)

I think barbwire would be a cool idea, maybe bits of broken lass-gun, wooden pieces, skulls. A little muddy or dusty element to the rim of the great coat might be cool to.

I'd still like to see it with just a hint of a highlight on the coat as it looks a little drab, but overall I love the model.

I can see the minimalist highlighting you did on the first trooper, a vast improvement from the flat look before. I also really like the new soiled look you've worked in. Too bad I won't be facing your Krieg on Saturday, I'll have to put up with your Cadians.

Kriegfreak
12-06-2009, 04:09
Man, now your making mine look bad! Love the two newer models. The Air Brush looks slick, and the grime is done perfectly. I'd stick with that personally, Krieg are supposed to be somewhat drab and dirty imo, and when you get a squad together then they will really come together.

I gotta learn to air-brush :)

BowlingShirtJerk
12-06-2009, 12:52
Mind if I ask how (what colors, techniques, etc) you used on the hoses? The transition from brown to black looks great, and I've been stumped on what to do about my Korps' air tubes...

12-06-2009, 16:08
So as far as the airbrush goes I have been using the new model air line from vallejo with their thinner. Extremely happy with that purchase! I plan on getting all their model air colors eventually.... For the coats I gave them a light bases of US grey, followed by a highlight with a 2nd layer of it in the raised areas. I then took babdab black and watered it down and gave the recesses a shading. The dirt that was airbrushed on is a mix of vallejo thinner, scorched brown, and bestial brown. As for the hose work I simply gave it a basecoat of scorched brown followed by a wash with Babdab black and finally a highlight with scorched brown.

Hey guys, Sorry I havnt posted any new work over the past day, I had some air brush issues... now that Ive got the scheme down and the kinks out of the new airbrush I should be able to start cranking them out. I have to paint and build 30 infantry and 3 heavy bolters before I allow myself to order more =P So wish me luck, Im diving in tonight, look for more pics tomorrow night!

Alrighty guys, Ive had a hell of a busy week at work. One of my managers went on vacation so I had to pretty much run the lab... good times.. Anyway, now that hes back its back to painting! Lol I finally have some energy again after work... anywho.. I updated the first post with a new guardsmen, and the rest are in their final stages of completion, they just need highlights and the spray from the airbrush to dirty them a bit, keep an eye out for them this week.

On a fluffy note.. Ive been trying to decide the backround I want for my regiment. Im going to need some Krieg experts here seeing as Im new to the army. From what I gather there are a few different types of Krieg regiments.. The line Korps, Assault Korps, and Seige regiments? I was going back and forth between a Siege regiment and an Assault Korps regiment... They give little information on the line korps and assault korps in the Battle for Vrakas Vol. 1.. anyone that could shed some light on the subject would be most helpful! I have decided on a number and a name tho. They will be the 13th regiment, altho im still trying to settle on a common name. Ive been tossing around Death Knights, Knights Mortis, and Death's Hand. Anywho lemmy know what you think guys! Talk to you soon!

God those look nice man. Love the slick weathering on them. Just put in a FW order, so I'm ready to Krieg it up again myself! My only critique would be to paint the ring around the bases a dark brown instead of leaving it the base black, unless of course you want it that way. Just a thought.

that_guy123
26-06-2009, 02:18
As far as I know the way the Krieg regiments work is that there is different kind (infantry artillery tank and their famous siege) and it depends on how the army is organized as to what type of korps the regiments in. But other then that love the scheme (thats why I painted mine in the same style except mine have green pants and are winter schemed :D)

Fable
26-06-2009, 04:58
They look absolutely dynamite. I'm sure when your whole army is done it will be teh source for much jealousy in the world, but in the meantime that first squad is really good. I love how weathered they look. I can't wait to see them supported by some scheme matching tanks (feel free to leave the Hell Hound at home though).

I have a Kreig army and as such am in frequent liason with Fw over phone, these minis are making GW a mint! They wouldn't undercut themselves with a plastic version. Now stop worrying and get painting!!!

sorry? could you clear a bit of this up. your paintscheme is almost exactly what ive been planing for my death korps, except mine are "urban snow" themed not as dusty as yourse.

when you say you used US grey as base then highlighted with the same colour did you add anything to it? i dont understand how its a highlight.
and te badab black was that with a brush or airbrush?

just again.. DKOK are never going to be plastic
i would really love to see a step by step of how to paint these guys. loving your army

Col_Festus
24-08-2009, 10:23
I started by undercoating the model black. I then airbrushed the entire model us grey. This was followed by a painted babdab black wash. Then I
airbrushed near the edges with us grey again. After that I picked out highlighs on the coats with codex grey. All the dark brown is simply scorched brown with a wash of
babdab black. The midtone brown is cathayan brown with a delvan mud wash and bestial Brown highlight. I can't remember the name of the lightest brown off the top of my head. It's the lightest foundation paint gw makes with a delvan mud wash. The entire lower quarter of the model gets a light airbrushing of 2:1 bestial brown to scortched brown for the dust.

Small update tonight. I've been building my first veterans squad. I'm so happy with the way it came out I'll probably convert a few more Kriegsmen to make the original infantry squad I have into a veteran squad as well. Anyway here are a few WIP pics. The Sarg is now done with GS work and everything, this is a pic before it was done however. The meltagunner and heavy flamer are both done.

Originally I was going to use this Valk for my Cadian army, but I decided that I wanted Imperial Navy support for my DKOK. Here are a few shots of it. I swapped the door gunners for heavy bolter sponsons to keep the aircraft sealed in case the DKOK were dispatched to a hazardous environment.
