Sweet project deadly, it's going to be great when it's all done up, but I've said that already.

Have you seen this months WD? I really recommend it, there's an army in there with a similar colour scheme to this one, it's quite inspirational stuff, which might be worth looking into.

Please post your thoughts on the IG in there, if you get it.

Its resin ,I love the detail on the FW kits Im looking forward to gettting some of the cadian upgrades and maye be a Armageddon pattern Basilisk even though ive still got to finish my 3rd company DA army and my Black templers i still keep buying :)

Hehe, sounds like we are 2 from the same mould headley!

Even though im a long term veteran of FW kits, Everytime im making one I find some small detail, that could of be left off, and not bothered with. But when all these little details come together then your really get a much greater feeling of depth, and detail. Its these things that make FW worth their value.

Ive only been painting for 4 to 5 months,I used to paint when 40k first was relised by GW when i was 16ish ,Ive still to play the game but i find my fun in the painting and building :)plus what makes it better is that i can buy all the old models of ebay which i had when i was 16 and put more effort in to painting them

Jericho
30-12-2005, 01:27
Personally I'd try to avoid Dremelling large portions of those kits around your computer... dust is bad :D Looks cool though, and reminds me that I really should paint some of the FW kits I had, paying a couple hundred bucks so they can sit in plastic baggies isn't so cool :D

Do use a mask, and remember to clean it up after you're done. Resin dust is seriously ickynotgood for your health.

Why Grey?

Because Grey is a neutral colour and you can paint any colour over it.

Have to say I prefer black as it means any recesses you miss on treads and engine grilles get the right dark shade as opposed to grey which sticks out like a sore thumb if you miss anything.

Depends what colour you go for though I suppose my tanks are in Dark Greens and black and grey urban schemes so the black fits better and the greys and greens cover the black well. If you want a desert finish then grey may be a better option.

Ragnar Ohman
01-01-2006, 13:57
You prime with a grey color then you spray on your first basecoat(black or white or whatever you fancy) 'cause the color sticks easier on with a grey pirmer.

Mmm, Baneblade… Must resist… Sigh, when will I ever get one of my own…?

So far it’s looking good. I’m looking forward to seeing it painted.

Just one question though. It looks as if some parts (mostly the turrets) are of a lighter, almost white, resin as opposed to the regular grey. Is it just the pictures, or does FW use different types of resin for this model?

Deadleyheadley
01-01-2006, 18:15
well im rdy for priming but i dont know if its best to wait till the magnets turn up or just add the magnets after ive painted  ,what do you lot think ?

Deadleyheadley
01-01-2006, 18:18
From what ive seen with the banebalde is that the dark resin is hard and snaps eazy and you have to cut with a saw but the lighter resin is eazyer to cut and you can use a knife ,May be im wrong but thats how its been on this model

Wintermute

Those are not actually floating. If I'm not mistaken, there are two wheels in that attachment, and between then there is a suspension arm connecting the assembly into the mail hull.

Regarding the resin: I think the different colourations have little to do with the actual strength of the resin. Resin is after all resin. It does differ how much pigment they add to the resin, and even the slightest bit more or less of this pigment will give a different colour to the resin. This is what I have seen after working and casting with resin myself. But then, FW might actually use different resin strengths, whose to know?

On topic, great work on the BaneBlade Deadly. I have ordered one as well, hope it arrives soon. Still thinking about what I should do with it. Colourwise that is...

dark angel
01-01-2006, 19:11
by the looks of it they use the darker for structural bits like legs on warhound titans and the lighter coloured for detail word and the really light coloured like in the cock pit of the warhoun titan for extreame detail

i think thats how it goes

In my experience it's just colour and not structural strength. The different colours are just different batches of resin.

f2k
01-01-2006, 19:55
Ok, thanks for clearing that up guys. I guess I just got a bit confused: I figured that these large-scale models were cast on a one-by-one basis as the orders ticked in. And therefore, of course, all the resin used should be from the same batch and thus the same colour.
But apparently that’s not the case…

Wow, this is the first time I have seen a Baneblade in the process of being made, and it looks very very nice, can't wait to see it fully painted. Someone earlier mentioned that they would go for Maximillian Wiseman's Baneblade, just to point out to them if it hasn't been realised already that the Baneblade Deadley is making is the Wiseman one. You can tell in two ways, the hull around the turret, is sharp and sloped, on the normal one its rounded and "softer" also Wiseman's one has a pintle-mounted Heavy Bolter, the normal one doesn't. Just thought I would mention that.

Isn't this going to match the same colour of your marines and guard forces?

It doesnt look that big, I always imagined it would be bigger, why isnt it bigger?

I'm looking forward to seeing it completed but I have to say great work so far, they look complicated to put together.

Very interesting thread, i've just finished all 12 pages. I kinda wish there were more threads around like this, its almost "Forgeworld porn": fantasy modelling for those without the ability (in this case cash) to have the real thing;). The baneblade really is a lovely kit from all appearences, unfourtunatly, as with all those big forgeworld kits, i've never got the supporting army bought and painted to justify the purchase:rolleyes:.

Good luck on it.

I love the model. It has to be my favorite tank in whole 40K galaxy.
Nice work Deadlay, can't wait to see it finished.

I like the paint job, but sadly I feel it doesnt give due the massive model justice, the brown looks slightly blotchy. Could use some weathering round armor panels and the rivets. Chipped paint here and there. But I mean it still looks amazing and I'm always awed by painted baneblades.

Looks good, however I agree the brown is a little splodgy, and maybe darker than the rest of your troops?

Very nice anyways, and love the treads.

The brown is splodgy but once its been weathered it will all belend in ;) plus the flash of the camera makes it look a lot worse then it is ,plus in the flesh it looks like ground in dirt and oil :p
Thanks again for all the comments

What I do when I weather tanks, take a little bestial brown or scorched brown on your brush, less paint then when your drybrushing and dust certain areas with it. I would use some really watered down scorched brown on all the metalics recesses. A little watered down brown paints around rivets looks mighty fine too. Also on certain edges paint small black patches, go back with a silver metallic and fill in the black patches leaving a small amount of black around the edge of it all. Idk what else to say to do but it helps to google military modelling as they have far superior techniques then I think anyone can afford to offer you here.

if you have a look on the UK GW site and space marines, there is an article about weathering marines and recommends weathering powder and tells you how to use it. go there for info
PS love the thread, i am in the same boat, buying loads of cool imperial guard stuff with no hope of painting them all any time soon!

Thanks for that link about weathering.

Looking good btw, agree with what others have said.

I think i'll end up with a baneblade one day, seems abit rude not to have one in my armoured company. Might get one at Carnage if i have the money.
